Called Payless in a frantic state with water gushing out of our Water heater in the garage. They booked Dustin to come and take a look. We realized quickly how old ours was and that it needed to be replaced. So Dustin was very calm and informative on which types of water heaters they had and what not. We quickly chose a similar type to the one we had. He installed it all within a 2 hour window and it's shiny and new. I learned a lot as he went over everything he did and why. There's 4 different locations reviewed on Yelp but since they're family owned, I left this review on each one as it applies to them all: HIGHLY OVERCHARGED! Yes, they came quickly to give me an estimate. I only said yes because it's a rental and I can't leave the tenants without hot water. They give you an estimate by telephone and record the conversation. This made me suspicious. They replaced the controller with a 3rd party controller and charged me like it was the manufacturers controller, which is still available. $799 to install a what should be a $300 part - and it took just over half an hour. Their receipt did not break down parts and labor (and tax) so I called them. A few times. At first they said they had to get permission to send an itemized receipt. They finally sent it. $459 for the $300 part, $340 for just over half an hour labor. And no tax showing on the receipt. I called them because someone had written their phone number on the water heater and because of their name, I assumed they would be cheaper than my regular plumber. Again, when they gave me the estimate I didn't have time to call my regular plumber Hanna Plumbing - I would have if it were my family living it the house. A month later there was a leaky pipe so I called my regular people, Hanna Plumbing. I bought the water heater from them years ago. When they were there, I asked how much to replace that controller - $400 was a rough estimate. Going with someone different than Hanna was a mistake I won't make again. Been using them for over 15 years and they are reasonable and honest. When I needed a copper repipe I got a lot of bids. Hanna was detailed in their bid, fully licensed and amazingly efficient. They got the job out of 5 quotes. When the inspector came, he said they deal with Hanna daily and they do superb work. I kicked myself for calling someone else for the water heater. So two stars for coming quickly and being professional. But at those prices, they ought to be. read more

My old water heater was really old, about 18 years-old and before it started to leak I called three water heater companies to get quotes and their approach. Payless Water Heaters and Plumbing gave me the only written quote (the others just told me the cost. I chose them because they also had the best price, but also used what I have read is one of the top makers called Bradford-White. They scheduled me for the next day and I got a text with the installer's name and photo 30 minutes prior to his arrival. This young man named London was efficient, pleasant, and answered my questions about the thermostat (very cool LED indicator of functioning), replacing the anode, and other quirky stuff I asked about, like how often to drain the tank for longest life, etc. He did a great job and completely cleaned up after. They were contracted by my home warranty, the heaters pilot kept shutting off. They said they would arrive from 10 - 2 but arrived at 6pm. When my wife called they said "we said we would call before arriving that's why we haven't called" even though it was past schedule window. The guy was friendly but I asked him multiple times if the little wire he replaced would fix it. I asked about other concerns as well. The guy left with just making a 5 minute swap of a copper tube and less than a day later I find the water heater pilot off again. I paid 65$ deductible and probably will have to pay it again to have someone else come out and fix it. I specifically made him aware that I did not want to pay another deductible if the problem was back soon after and he assured me that it was fixed. read more

We were a little weary to make that switch because it took extra plumbing and it wasn't as easy as getting just another regular water heater. We made an appointment with Payless Water Heater thru Home Advisors for a specific time, and even received a printed confirmation. They were a NO-SHOW. We called the company and before I could barely get past "Hello" received a nasty, snooty-assed receptionist who was arguing why we called and how we said it! I pointed out the problem, he assessed the heater, and determined the problem quickly and accurately. His honesty saved myself, and my insurance company time and money. I signed up to do just this one review for Jacob. I had such a wonderful experience with Jacob from Payless Water Heaters and Plumbing. I just moved here, and boxes covered the floor of the garage. Not only did Jacob install the new water heater lic-ki-dee-split, he moved the boxes so he could complete his job. AND put them back in their places. I'm old and the boxes were heavy. I can't tell you enough how much Jacob impressed me. For such a young man, he is well mannered, yet professional. I am very pleased with the job he did. But I was blown away at how kind he was to me. I must say, if you use this company, ask specifically for Jacob. Don't let them send anyone else to your door. Oh, the job required a little more than just installing a water heater, which is enough.
