plain donut on top and cinnamon donuts underneath.

These donuts were recommended to me as the best donuts on the island. They did not disappoint! So delicious and only $1.50 each (cash only)! Three flavors: plain, sugar, and cinnamon. They come out very hot and fresh and they are so fluffy and perfect. Not dense like your typical cake donut. Fast service! There was no line each time we went this week (we went three times, consistent service and food quality each time).

If you want good donuts come here!! Smaller size but very cheap and delicious!! A couple different kinds- sugar, plain, cinnamon but so good and local to island- made there. Very quick as line wasn't bad and moved a long. A couple tables all out doors as it is a food truck so nice to eat outside but also can grab and go. FYI - small parking lot but Defs worth it. Great in flavor and nice little treat- recommend

CASH ONLY!! Be prepared. I've heard about Payne's Donuts as a staple for Block Island so on my first trip, I knew I needed to try them. My friends and I walked and I'm not going to lie.....it's a pretty far walk from the ferry. On a hot day, the walk can suck. Payne's is a little food truck next to a kayak renting facility. There are a few tables to sit at with an umbrella. The prices are very reasonable. I believe they are freshly made cake donuts. So the moment of truth. I have waited years to finally try these donuts and do they hold up to the hype? No. They are not the best donut you will ever eat, as other reviews have stated. Maybe they changed the formula over the years but they taste like every other freshly made cake donut I've tried in RI. They're not bad, they are just soft from being fresh, which is nice. I don't think it's worth the walk just to get one. Maybe if you have the bike or moped, but it's just an average cake donut.

I got the sugar and cinnamon sugar donuts... 6 of each (and a cool sticker)

These donuts were delish and seem to have been made to order for the most part, still niceee and warm. There was no line when I went on a Wednesday morning in late June. Only three flavors but you do not need more when they are THAT good.

The view from Payne's (and the ability to rent Kayaks right there!)

4 STARS ARE BASED OFF THE DONUT: Warm, delicious, soft inside and slightly crunchy outside. Such a win! Glad we walked the almost 1 mile from the ferry to Payne's with an infant and 7 year old! (Nice walk too by the way!) Some of the review it was out of an actual building- it is back to being a donut truck! One thing other reviews did not share... you are in between a kayak rental facility. How convenient if you are interested in hitting the water! And just nice scenery. The ducks were super friendly and loved the donuts too. The woman working the counter supplied my daughter with 2 donuts to feed the ducks- super nice! The bad... My boyfriend and friend had the coffee. They said if they could give it negative stars they would. I heard worst coffee I ever had and the donuts are as good as the coffee is as bad.

I'll go out on a limb and say that Payne's is my favorite part of BI. Find yourself a way to get there; walk, rent a bike, hop on a moped, call a cab...just get yourself there. These are the softest donuts I've ever had. I'm talking pillow soft. Fall apart soft in the best possible way. And they are small so try one of each. They have plain, sugar, and cinnamon(my fav). They are cash only so plan ahead.

Ugh the BEST donuts I've had! So many different and unique flavors with also options for more traditional old fashioned styles highly recommend anyone who loves donuts to stop by - you don't be disappointed!

This time I tried a London Fog. Fortunately hubby was with me to split it because it was too big for just 1 person. They make excellent coffee and tea drinks as well. There was a bunch to choose from, so I am sure some remain constant. Three donuts were tried and my thoughts on each are below. Orange Creamsicle - This was brioche filled with orange cream mousse topped with orange glaze, whipped cream, and an orange slice. This tasted exactly like what one would expect. The icing was pleasant, while the whipped cream was very light and airy. Bananas Fosters - This was a banana glazed brioche topped with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and a banana chip. Again, this tasted like what one expects when ordering this type. This was very solid. There was a nice balance of flavors and extremely large too. Bismark - This was filled with raspberry jam and topped with whipped cream, raspberries, and powdered sugar. Again, I could not believe how light the whipped cream was. The raspberries were a nice touch on top and filling, very tasty. Will I go back? Yes, I would.

So that means everyone loves Nana's. Which means that, on a very rainy weekend early afternoon, we ended up waiting quite a long time to order and then to get our food but ... I suppose it was worth it (this is high praise coming from someone who almost never believes waiting in a long line is actually worth it). My friend and I split the spicy Caesar kale salad as a starter. I cracked up when I saw "massaged kale" as one of the ingredients. But all jokes aside, this was one of the best kale salads with abundant dressing and, in lieu of croutons, breadcrumbs and cashew parmesan. It tasted pretty indulgent and rich but you can certainly fool yourself into thinking it's actually healthy. I got the tomato sandwich plus bacon (so a BLT without the L) and it was pretty good, though I do wish they cut the bread a little thinner so I could pick it up and eat it as a sandwich. As it were, I just used my knife and fork - certainly more civilized. The pizza was also not bad, though I wish there were some more of the toppings - heard it's leagues better than Mystic Pizza. There are a few tables inside but be prepared to wait. When it was peak rush hour, there were two lines inside, one for the bathroom and one to place an order. Even though they were so slammed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. Our waitress in particular came by often to see how we were doing. Parking lot also filled up. We parked in the Mystic train station and then walked over.

The GPS led us to a parking lot, with a good number of spots and Nana's was 20 steps away. They do have a patio with a few tables but because it was raining, we went straight inside. When we arrived, there were only a couple parties seated, but by the time we were mid-way through our meal / leaving, the place was packed. Our server helped us with understanding some of the items on the menu and also warned us about some of the iteme they didn't have, like pepperoni, mushrooms, and donuts. With that in mind, we ordered risotto balls to start and the pesto egg and cheese sandwich (baked fresh eggs, pesto, cheddar cheese, lemon aioli, brioche roll) and Dijon and lemon chicken salad sandwich (slow roasted chicken thighs, lemon aioli, herbs, local greens, pickles, and side of fries) for the main meals. The Yaupon iced tea caught our attention since it has indigenous tea with rotating fruit fusion so we ordered one just to try it. The risotto balls came out a little sooner than the other items. We loved the crispy outside, but not a huge fan of the inside since it was mostly risotto with not enough cheese or something to glue it all together. The sauce tasted like a fancy marinara - it was tart, lightly sweet, but a tad acidic and herby too. In our minds, we imagined our main plates looking differently, but I think it was mostly because we didn't do a good job of reading the menu. The pesto sandwich was good. The eggs reminded us a lot of a quiche-spongey and light. It did not have a strong pesto flavor. The roll seemed homemade; it was good and airy. The Dijon lemon chicken salad sandwich was okay. The chicken thighs chunks were tender, and I could definitely taste the pickles, lemon, and Dijon. I think it needed more salt or even something sweet to balance out the acidic flavors. The bread was well toasted. The fries were delicious with the right amount of salt, crispiness, and variety. The iced tea was not our favorite as it tasted overly sweet which might've removed any fruit flavor. The staff was very attentive, they have lots of tables and high chairs to choose from, and lots of natural sun coming through the large windows.
