Let me tell you about Pazzo Big Slice Pizza and Pazzo Calzone Bakery. I walked into this fine pizza establishment looking for a slice of cheesy, carby goodness to soothe my soul and fuel my day. I walked up to the counter, ordered a slice of Spicy Hawaiian, and paid $10+tax. For one slice. One. I understand my slice has toppings, but this isn't NYC or Italy, fam. It's Hoover, Alabama. Please. They also wanted me to pay for a cup of water. The restaurant is empty. I sit at one of the many empty tables and proceed to wait 23 minutes for my magical slice of pizza that surely must be covered in freshly slaughtered, humanely raised pigs, organic pineapple from the heavens, crust glazed with the tears of orphans, and baked in the erupting volcano in Hawaii. The restaurant fills up. My slice of pizza arrives. It was not delivered to me by a handsome, shirtless Hawaiian man on horseback. There was no fanfare. The pineapple with canned. The ham was surely chemically enhanced in a factory owned by Oscar Mayer. The crust was bland as sand. The slice was large - I'll give them that. But any respectable pizza joint in NYC has larger slices for a third of the price. Whatevs. I was duped. My B. BUT THEN! An employee came over and asked me to move to a table shoved in the corner that was covered in boxes of napkins and straws. "To make room for a larger party." Um. Ma'am. I AM the party! Don't you know? I'm the best party you'll ever see. So I sat in the dark corner sadly eating my sad excuse of a pizza with my elbow bumping the wall regretting my life decisions and caloric intake. Sunday night, long day, craving Italian; does this sound familiar. Over the past year I have passed Pazzo almost daily without stopping. Today was my day to try this Italian, conveniently located, option. Ordered on line for pickup and was informed, after paying, my order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Twenty minutes later I walked into Pazzo on Montgomery Highway. Below is a summary of my experience. - my order, which I could see on counter iPad, had not been sent to their kitchen. - employees ignored me while dealing with a customer who was overcharged on dinner order - once acknowledged was informed I could not cancel order and food would be ready in 15-20 minutes - while patiently waiting noticed tables needing clearing, families getting wrong order, and unbussed tables. - got order after 20 minutes but salads were not included. - drove home, 5 minutes, to find food cold and bread stale. Just ate here and the service wasn't the best. Not only did she charge for drinks when we ordered waters but my sister ordered a big slice and got a whole pizza. We didn't get receipts so we couldn't compare but when the food was brought out she kinda shrugged it off as "oh well it's paid for". What really got to us is when someone else came in to order she explained the menu and when the lady was about to order a whole pizza instead of the slice she corrected her. Won't be back. read more

Somewhat disappointed. Went in at 815pm. Ordered the slice special, which Is advertised as being available until 9pm. Got the pasta combo, spaghetti with meat balls. Garlic Knot was just a Big Blob of pizza dough. No real garlic taste at all. Maybe some garlic liquid brushed across the top. Spaghetti was fine but the sauce was all on the bottom. Best NYC style pizza in Birmingham! The dining room is a bit small, but that adds to the feeling of being in a New York pizza joint. There are a lot of options besides pizza, including pasta! I always get the pepperoni or "meat lovers" and it never disappoints! read more

Just Amazing! This is what comes to mind when I think about Pazzo! Big Slice Pizza. The pizza is actually bigger than my face and made fresh every time I have gone. The gem of a restaurant is hidden in Hoover and is one of the best pizza joints in Birmingham. The staff has done okay with abiding by the COVID regulations. I have gone and sometimes they cashiers aren't wearing masking properly and the to go card board pizza boxes are self serve. This is definitely a pizza place that everyone in Birmingham has to experience at least once. read more

So I've never officially been to Pazzo! But their food truck came to First Friday June 2017. The guy taking orders was funny and had good rapport with the crowd. They weren't offering their entire menu but we got a slice of of the giant slice pizza. We had pepperoni. It was surprisingly pretty good pizza. Cheesy crust, cheesy good pepperoni not drenched in too much sauce. Warrants a visit to the actual restaurant to see what they have to offer. Appears they're far more than a giant slice pizza novelty. They offer calzones, pasta etc... seems like a lot of people really enjoy those items as I see more reviews on things other than the giant pizza. read more

I've never eaten at the restaurant, but the truck comes to my job. They recently added to their truck menu. I saw that pasta, chicken sandwich, and wings were added. The pizzas are ok, a bit expensive for one slice ($10). I only get the veggie slice. I tried the wings today...they were just ok as well. My first time here was a few years ago when I was visiting Birmingham. It used to be a calzone "chipotle" place where customers pick our toppings, etc. I thought it was pretty neat. When I came back a few months ago, it has changed to a local Italian place that serves pizza, pasta, calzone, and dessert. My father and I normally order a pasta (baked ziti or spaghetti with meatballs) and a calzone (spinach chicken alfredo). We share them and they are perfect pairings. I'd say that this place seems busier than ever before, the wait times are somewhat long and the cashiers are so busy that they forget to give me my orders when they are ready (the reason for 4 star rating). However, it is worth the wait because the food tastes delicious. If you are coming here with a lot of people, I'd say don't bring like 6-7 cars here since it has a limited parking space. read more

So a personal pan pizza is apparently 20 bucks. It's not even worth that much first of all. Then the workers are absolutely rude and got the orders wrong. They refused to give refunds or make the correct pizza. Never go to this place. read more

Pizza was decent at best. Crust and cheese were on point, but the sauce leaves a lot to be desired. I stood at the counter for almost 10 minutes before being greeted, and then the dude acted like I was bothering him. Not sure what all the hype is about except the they can make a huge pie. OK, this place has some good food! I knew they had big pizzas and big slices, but I didn't expect to get a 14" pan as a plate for 1 slice of pizza! We later learned that the slices are 1/6 of a 24" pizza. Also got the mozzarella pizza rolls to try. Those are wonderful, with a combination of cheeses. The place has a nice atmosphere with televisions and photos on the walls, plus a dessert case with some tempting treats. I only had a couple of issues. First, the menu above the counter- the prices/sizes read from right to left and there were a few misspelled words that got a little chuckle out of me, but I could figure the menu out. The family in front of me...could not, and eventually ended up ordering a 24 inch pizza after the mom said they had spaghetti at home. It wasn't until they were asked about how their order was that they revealed they didn't know they could've gotten slices of the pizza instead of the whole pizza-despite the menu showing individual slices with prices and what it costs to add toppings. They must've had more trouble than I thought with that menu. We were all advised that it was known the menu was difficult for some to read and would be getting replaced soon. The second issue-I pulled up online ordering while we were dining in to see if there was anything listed that I missed on the menu and found an estimated delivery time of 90-150 minutes listed. I didn't see the kitchen very busy, and we saw one delivery go out and the guy was back by the time we got our food, so that just seemed to be a very exaggerated estimate. I'd recommend stopping by, and I plan on trying something different next time, but if that delivery time is normal. I'd suggest coming in. read more

I ordered 2 pizzas and a spaghetti and meat ball for my family. not only did they get the pizza wrong, they also gave me a side of me meat balls. Who ordered just a side of meat balls? i mean come on. Then when I tried to come back and tell them that they messed up they tried to charge me for my spaghetti. If I could give them a 0 star I would. Didn't even apologize for messing The order up. I will not go back nor do I recommend this place to anyone. Overall, it is not the worst place. I don't know that we'll be back though. The pizza was mediocre. The bathrooms could use a little freshening up, too. The bottom line is this- we have a family of four and got a 24" pizza, four drinks, and a house salad to share. Total was $50. We have some great pizza places in Birmingham and $50 is more than we'd spend at Davenport's. Davenport's is on a whole different level than Pazzo. Matter of fact, we'd get better pizza at Costco and be out less than 20 bucks. read more

I really like Pazzo! The customer service was great. The employees took time to explain how everything works and explained the ingredients very thoroughly.(my first time). I was pleased with the calzone...it was huge and very delicious. Their dough, vodka sauce, and marinara on top were phenomenal! I'd recommend others to try and I'm definitely returning. read more

Everything is delicious. I liked it when it was a calzone place, I like it still. You can still get delicious calzones, but now you can also have the hilarity of ordering a pizza that barely fits on a standard 4-top table! Their pizzas are HUGE and it's awesome. I've never been disappointed with a pizza that I've gotten here, and I've tried many of the toppings and the special pizzas. The crust is delicious, not at all like the cardboard crust you find at most chains now. This place is AUTHENTIC and it comes across in the food. Give me an order of garlic knots with mozzarella on top, a 24" chicken pesto pizza, a Caesar salad and 4 of my friends and we'd have the makings of an incredible night. My only complaint is that when picking up a pizza to bring home, it can be hard to fit the box in the car, because I always order way bigger of a pizza than is necessary. But maybe that's my car's problem and not the pizza's! read more

Went here for the first time back in February and had a good experience. Got a 24" supreme pizza for a guys night and it was very good! Cooked very well but not burned and just right. A buddy was with me to pick up the pizza and while the pizza was being made we sat down and had a beer( which I didn't know they carried!). It was brought to us within 5-10 minutes and stayed fresh for a while even in the box. The space is a little smaller than I expected, but the food and service makes up for it. Pizza was doughy and suuuper cheesy which was pleasing to my kids and husband. The pesto roll was actually a calzone but tasted amazing nonetheless. Delivery was early which rocked. Pesto roll was expensive for what it was but the pizza was huge and worth the cost. read more

This place is very good. I have been a couple times. Once when it was more of a build your own calzone place, now as a pizza by the slice with plenty of options. They have updated the decor a bit inside. I have had delicious calzones, lasagna, bread, and chicken parmigiana here. it is definitely worth a visit, and the staff is quite friendly. read more

I used to recommend Pazzos. I have ordered their largest pizzas for my office on several occasions. I have posted on FB (posted myself, not on Pazzo's page). No more. In December I dined in the restaurant and asked if they have gift cards. They do, so I purchased one for $50 and gave it to a team member. It isn't actually a gift card, it is a receipt from the register with a barcode (and date, time, all the usual receipt items). When she redeemed it she was told it was no good as they rang it up wrong when sold. I spoke to the management, they said "they tried to help out the purchaser by messaging him" (me) but never heard back. How; I have no idea, I received no message (no mention of what "message"; FB, WA, LI; how would they find me???) and was not helped, but rather embarrassed that the gift was worthless, and after I had promoted the restaurant so much. I checked my account, fortunately I paid with a card and it has now been charged back. The best part: I was told by management that if they made a mistake they should be able to correct it. $50 would have been tough to loose (had they lost it; they actually did have it), but worth what this will cost? I am embarrassed having given a worthless gift and the recipient (a coworker) was embarrassed in the restaurant. $50 not so well spent. Pazzos screwed up, and I paid for it. Ordered a 24inch pizza with half pepperoni, onion and GP, one fountain drink and a can of Good People IPA. $59.63. Excuse me? Toppings are full price even when on half a pizza. Pizza is mediocre anyways. That is a ridiculous pricing policy. Never again Pazzo, never again, we are done. read more

We recently moved to the Hoover area and have been experimenting with the different restaurants. We have visited the area many times over the last 20 years and have found some restaurants that we really like. We tried this place for the first time last night. With the exception of the garlic cheese knots and the actual big slice of cheese and pepperoni pizza for our children my wife and I were disappointed. We ordered the date night special which came with two pasta dishes and two salads. The salads were OK, but the pastas were pretty sad. The portions were fine but the flavor of the food was lacking. My wife ordered chicken penne Alfredo and she stated that the chicken tasted old. I tasted it and it seemed like maybe it seemed to me that the grilled chicken was a little over cooked. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs and I have to honestly say that these were the worst meatballs I've ever had from an Italian restaurant/pizzeria. The meatballs had absolutely no flavor and I had to add quite a bit of salt and pepper in fact enough salt that would probably justify taking an extra blood pressure pill. The meatballs were also mushy they had no density to them whatsoever. To be fair we will probably give this place another try because we don't want to judge them based on a one time experience. With that said, Pazzo you really let us down, but will try you again in the future to see if you can redeem yourself. If not, there are other options in town that we already love and have loved for many many years. read more

Absolutely horrible excuse for a restaurant. Honestly do not even know where to begin. The food is insanely over priced, while dinning In with my family we even noticed cockroaches cross the dinning room area. Food was burned. Floor was super dirty looked as if it had never been cleaned. Bathrooms had pee on the floor and no paper towels. I brought my family here for my daughters birthday and I have never been more embarrassed to bring my family somewhere. Pazzo pizza is a really yummy pizza place. I recently went with a friend and their pizza slices are HUGE. the only reason I cut off one star is because it's a bit pricy but the taste is amazing. This place serve authentic Italian style pizza which actually makes you feel like you're in Italy for 10 mins haha. As far as Covid Regulations go they are Doing well because their tables are spaced apart and they all have masks on. I would definitely go again. read more
