Pazzo! Big Slice Pizza - Italian Near Me - Hoover, Alabama

Not my favorite pizza restaurant. I spent almost $11 on a salad with bad lettuce. It is very overpriced for the quality.

I came here about 3 weeks ago and I never saw such a big slice and I do have to say it was very tasty! I am a New Yorker and I do know what a good pizza is! I can't say it was bad because it wasn't! I will say 1 slice was more than enough for me and the sauce was good! You won't waste your money, this is a good place for good pizza. read more

Man this is my second time coming here and my last. So let's start with the service, I asked for Sicilian thick crust but HE ended up giving me the 12x12 which is not what orders, and when I told this prick he says they don't make round pizzas..... you got to be kidding me you have a 24" 32" and a 38" pizza box on you wall and I'm looking round pizzas come out of the oven. I'm pissed to say the least and will never ever come back here. The service sucks and so these pizzas with the spaghetti sauce on them. I just wasted my money!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I'm giving this place 1 star due to the rudeness of the owner. Twice now, I have held birthday parties here and both times was treated very rudely. The first time I went in beforehand to let them know we would have several in the party. His question to me was "how long would we be there." This time I brought in my family for a family birthday, and exactly one hour later, as we were getting ready to leave, he came over and asked us to leave because another group was going to leave since there was no room for them. I probably wouldn't have been so miffed if this had been the first time, but it has happened the only 2 times we have been there. The huge pizza is a novelty, but the rudeness of the owner is not. I've visited Pazzo two times. The first time my experience was pretty good. This most recent time it was certainly not. The only reason it gets two stars is because of that first visit. The menu is quite large... and confusing. There are no descriptions of what anything is. Want to know what's on the tutto meat pizza? You'll have to ask because it just gives the name of the pizza with no other information. My friend and I also noticed that multiple things on it were misspelled. I can generally overlook one error, but this had at least three. The prices are pretty standard for the pasta, calzones and pizza slices, but it's costly when you get into the whole pizzas. They are huge though, so you get what you pay for. The interior is typical of a small pizza joint. Tables scattered around, a couple of TVs... the usual. As I said, the first trip was positive. I went with a friend and we both ordered slices (he got pepperoni, I got cheese) and he got the mozzarella pizza rolls. The pizza rolls were pretty good, filled with cheese and had a good flavor. Their marinara is also very good. The pizza slices were huge and tasty. All-in-all I had no complaints. Fast forward to our second trip. This time my husband joined us. Our friend ordered first and got the garlic cheese knots and a slice of pepperoni pizza with sausage added. My husband and I ordered right after him and got the garlic cheese knots, a meatball calzone and a slice of cheese pizza. That's when the wait began. Our friend finally got his order after at least half an hour. The garlic cheese knots looked a lot like store bought crescent rolls with a slice of cheese melted over them. Not much garlic flavor at all. His pizza looked like it was fairly old and had sausage thrown onto it and baked briefly. A good 20 minutes after he got his order, an order of garlic knots and spaghetti and meatballs were delivered to our table. My husband ordered a meatball calzone, not spaghetti and meatballs. And where was my slice of cheese pizza? That should have been the easiest thing in the order! Turns out the spaghetti and meatballs were a to-go order for a woman who ordered after us. They go to the back and bring out the calzone, which looked almost burned in places and was covered with a pile of marinara. While calzones usually come with marinara, one would think it would be on the side because with it glopped on the calzone that way, it does nothing but make it soggy. My husband confirmed that some of the bread had disintegrated from the moisture. He also said it didn't have much flavor and cutting through it was tough because it was overcooked. My guess is it had been cooked and was sitting somewhere. Moving on to my cheese pizza... finally they brought it out. But my friend saw one of the cooks look on top of the oven in a to-go box and pull something out. Not a minute later, I received my pizza. It looked even older than my friend's piece and was covered in garlic butter, probably in an attempt to make it look fresh. I will give them props on the cleanliness of their bathroom. It's nice to have a clean toilet to vomit into. I've NEVER gotten sick in a restaurant, but that pizza was foul. It was obviously old and so covered in the butter that it was nearly inedible. The manager listened to our complaints and seemed geniunely sorry, but I'm sure his hands were tied. When there's a sign prominently displayed that says "no refunds, no exceptions" you have to wonder about the attitude of the owners. My friend has said he'll give them one more chance, but after my last experience, I won't give them a chance unless someone else is paying and even then I'll be hesitant. read more

Great Calzones! Super fresh & flavorful ingredients. Stopped in on a whim & so glad we did. I'm from NY, so I am always a bit skeptical of Italian food here in the south. I was very pleasantly surprised! These calzones are not the traditional ones you might find in the northeast - these have far more options & combinations! These calzones start with a disc of homemade dough and your choice of sauce. Then you have the option to choose meat (sausage, meatballs, prosciutto, chicken, etc), then veggies (carmelized onions, roasted garlic, zucchini, artichokes, peppers, mushrooms, etc). You then get to add cheese, such as mozzarella, ricotta, Parmesan & so on. Then the dough is folded over your ingredients and you can add herbs and/or garlic salt. It's then popped in the oven & is ready to eat in about 6 minutes. I chose mostly veggie ingredients, with pomodoro sauce, onions, mushrooms, roasted garlic & zucchini. I then added mozzarella & ricotta & asiago cheeses. Awesome! My daughter did meat lovers style, with pomodoro sauce, meatball, hot Italian sausage, prosciutto, roasted garlic, onions, mozzarella & ricotta - super stuffed and fantastic! The best part was that all of this plus a drink & tax was $16! We got ours to go & the calzones were put in nice boxes with a side of sauce & a liner to help keep the calzone crispy, very thoughtful. I didn't even want to give this place one star. The manager/owner is a jerk! They charge for WATER!!!! I understand if that was the ONLY thing i was ordering but I was going to order food for 7 people and they still wanted to charge me 25 cents for every cup of water i got. I thought they were joking so i asked for the manager. He tells me that he has to pay a for the water bill so he charges for water and his tone was SO RUDE!! I kept looking around thinking i was on one of those Punk'd shows. I said, "yep and every other restaurant in Hoover pays for the water too but they don't charge for it". He also told me has to pay for the cups and straws. Then he said, "do you want me to lower your food cost too?". Even the employees were rolling their eyes about it. Hoover can do better than this!! Please do not give this establishment any business. We need him out of Hoover! Let's shut this one down! There are SO many other great pizza places in the area with good managers and staff. read more

This is the first time I've been at this restaurant and it will be the last. I came in with a group of 20 people including 8 children. The proprietor is extremely rude, and has been shooting dirty looks at the kids, and has asked us to "move down" so that he could "free up a table". There was nowhere for us to "move down". I will grant that the kids are hyped up after a cheer competition, but there is absolutely no excuse for how incredibly rude and hateful the owner / manager / whoever is acting. DO NOT come to this establishment. I have not been treated so badly by a restaurant in years. read more

Went today with several coworkers. Amazing. Giant calzone, as many choices as you want for $6.50. Dough fresh and delicious. Staff friendly and patient. Topping choices are plentiful! I will be back. Not sure I can eat a calzone anywhere else now. read more

I was impressed with this place last year, but last night's delivery was just meh. I ordered four large 26" slices and received a box filled with slices that were all different shapes and sizes, some not even fully covered in toppings. The sausage tasted cheap and pre-packaged. And though I ordered a "large slice" of Italian cream cake, I was sent a piece of what I'm guessing was Oreo cake that definitely wasn't big enough to cost $9.99. Additionally, the frosting must be made with shortening because it gave a greasy mouth coating. We didn't even finish it. Or the pizza. Unless I hear things are back on an up-swing, we won't be back. read more

I was very disappointed in the pizza. I ordered a 24" pie with extra cheese. What I got was a pie that had no extra cheese, bubbles from the crust and very little marinara sauce. I grew up in NYC, it's thin crust other than that no where near NY style pizza. read more

I went on a Friday night around 7; it wasn't the best time in terms of getting a seat in the restaurant. I switched my order to "to go" in the middle of them making my meat calzone. It was delicious, though I'm not too sure if it was my absolute favorite. Their pizzas looked very tempting, especially the 36" pizzas. And I understand that they serve giant pizza slices for lunch at a pretty reasonable price. Will return to try the pizza and am considering them for catering. Definitely try this if you get a chance. read more

This place has some great pizza. It's a newborn style place which I love. The problem that really pissed me off is the pricing. A New York style pizza is a very thin and non filling pizza and to charge 30 dollars for 24 inch is atrocious and that's only for a cheese pizza. Each topping is like 5 dollars. Something has changed again and not for the better. My family and I have eaten here numerous times since the change from build your own calzones to pizzeria. We loved it at first. Pizza was fresh, dough was yummy and the meatballs and marinara were hands down some of the best in town. Last time we ate here a few weeks ago, there were no longer waiters to take orders. We had to stand in line at the counter to place an order which is only a minor inconvenience for good food. However, when we got our order, nothing tasted the same. The crust was tasteless on the pizza and the meatballs tasted like any frozen meatball I could get at a food court and the pasta was watery. Definitely not the same! I feel like we fell for a bait and switch. Sad to say but don't waste the time or money going here. read more

Stopped by the food truck because I was so hungry, I figured I could eat just about anything, and it was close. Psyche. "I should've read the reviews first" is my current state of mind. $7 for one slice of cheese pizza. Thank goodness I wasn't feeling the urge to add toppings. I devoured this slice of pizza. NOT because it was good but because I paid $7 for it, and I was going to get every bite and crumb out of every crevice of the box. I'm the type of person that thinks it's REALLY hard to screw up pizza, but let me tell youuuu. This tasted about as good as eating a thin piece of soggy cardboard with great value brand cheese (SPARINGLY) placed on top. Have a cup of water handy because there's not even enough marinara on this thing to spell your name out with. The marinara had no flavor. I'm convinced it was some red food-colored substance that they use on those commercials to make fake food look appetizing. Save your money. read more

Only bad part I could say and reason for the 4 star is they emptied the tea out around 1 hour before closing and they was out of other soft drinks so we had to fight just to get water. Decently priced, and how good it is all up to you. With selections of different types of meats, vegetables, cheeses, and sauces, it's all at your power to make the best calzone ever. (If you don't know what you're doing, the staff is willing to help with suggestions.). The only negative thing, is that I wished there were more vegetable options like mushrooms, but the spinach, artichokes, and capers will do for now. read more

Went here last week! They have huge pizza! Their 32" is not available for take out unless you have a container. No man has built a pizza box this large, yet! Pazzo is supposedly getting one custom made! Cool! Everything was great, service, cold salad, great calzone (huge) and pizza fabulous. Zebra cake dessert was OMG and I am not normally a fan of dessert. Rating should reflect it was quite hot in dining area but granted it was a 98 degree day. read more

Your either one of two people when eating at Pazzo's. A, you're enamored by monster pieces of pizza regardless of taste because hey, It's campy and fun! Those folks give this place five stars for the sheer oddity and coolness of eating a huge slice of pizza. B, you're the type person that has actually tasted food before. Like any food, not just pizza. If you've ever had food in your life and your taste buds are not fried from some rare disease, you know that this place's overpriced pizza tastes like pure crap. Those are the one star folks. There are literally 200 more pizza places in Birmingham that have pizza better than this place, even Hunts Brothers at the local Texaco. Two chances. I love Pazzo it is the best pizza in the area i tell everyone looking for pizza to go to Pazzo. There is usually a bit of a wait for your food but it is worth it the only thing im not personally a fan of is there calizones because there so rich. But 1 slice of their pizza is killer do not worry about not being full from 1 slice because i cant even finish half of 1. they are a bit stingy with the ranch for a dollar for 1 cup but the owner is so down to earth he was led shoes and knows what he is doing. they have news on and kids shows on and sports. It has great atmosphere and a nice outside area i highly recommend Pazzo. read more
