Our son wanted to celebrate his 8th birthday at Pazzo. We come here often as a family, though not as often as before the pandemic. But visiting Pazzo tonight for our son's birthday and seeing his favorite guy, Jerry "Boomshakalaka" made things feel normal again. Tonight the food was as good a ever. We started with the sausage with onion and sauce (savory) and the meatball with ricotta (hearty), and we almost didn't have room for more. Thankfully we had a change of heart, instead ordering the Branzino, the Cod, and the Zupa de Pesce! Everything was fantastic and the house Pinot Grigio complimented everything perfectly. Best of all is the continued great and friendly service of our favorite, Jerry (aka Mr. Boomshakalaka). He makes dining at Pazzo a fun experience and does everything to make it top notch. What a marvelous place for pizza and other famous Italian dishes! I have had many pizzas in my lifetime and this place unquestionably ranked at the very top. We had combination pizza (see posted photo) and both were equally delicious. No doubt I will continue to return whenever I have the urge to eat pizza. Oh, thanks to the waiter, we had a complimentary dessert because this was our first visit to the place. What a thoughtful gesture that just made me a regular customer to this fine eatery. Had returned visit tonight and I was deepest disappointed. The place was crowded, so service was terrible. The waitress never refilled our water. I had to ask a waiter who cleaned up our dishes for refills. Moreover, we had to ask for the complimentary bread. When time came for the check the server was rather quick in giving it to us. Notwithstanding my dissatisfaction, I gave more tip than the person deserved; now I regret it. I think this is it for me to visit this once very nice place, since there are plenty of other good pizza places around. read more

I tried the Angolotti and the four cheese pizza. The four cheese had olive oil drizzled on top and I thought the olive oil was overkill, but that brought it all together. The pizza was a little crispy, the cheese melty and stringy with every bite - close to perfect. I generally like my pizza tomato saucy, but this was so good! The Angolotti, which is similar to ravioli, comes in a mascarpone sauce and that was good too, however, I wanted some tomato sauce for some tangy acidity. I don't know how blasphemous it is, but I think the Angolotti would be perfect swirled with some marinara or at least with a side of marinara. There, I wrote it and I'm not taking it back! The pasta is very fresh, tender and well made. My experience there was not lacking. The owners were wandering about the restaurant answering any questions. The ambience is casual, no pretense here. I live coming here, the people are are so friendly and welcoming. I probably had dinner here a good 10 times. I'm a fan of actual Italien food so i appreciate their take on a few dishes that remind me of Italy or the Italien food we have in Germany. My favorite dish are the pasta in garlic white wine with mussels and their seafood pasta (just ask for it). I also liked the pizza since they use a stone oven. They also have specials every week if you are curious. So far the only thing my hubby wasn't a fan of was the ragout sauce with pasta (he said mine is better, so hey i can't complain haha) I also really enjoy it because between the brick wall and the cozy lighting, it feels romantic and authentic. I must say my very favorite part is the wine selection. There are not many places where i can have a fabulous amarone by the glass. read more

So, I have to admit that my opinion of Pazzo Pomodoro has gone up and down. Initially - I loved it. I went there a few times, once sat at the bar and once in the restaurant. I remember really enjoying the food and thought the wine prices were really reasonable. Then, a month or so later, my husband and I got take-out. I'm not sure what it was but the portions were tiny and we just didn't think the food was as good as we thought our first few times. Then, we took a break. Went to Pazzo a few weeks back and have returned to really liking them again (I'm going to cast off the take-off as a one-off and not plan to do take-out from them again)! I ordered the bolognese and my husband ordered the gnocchi. The pasta was prepared beautifully for both dishes; I loved the sauce on mine. we also ordered a great Italian wine for around $40. We also both got Ceasar salads - I liked mine; husband wasn't as much of a fan since we think anchovies are ground into the dressing (I don't mind them if they are ground; he can't stand them at all). Overall, a great menu, well-prepared Italian food, and reasonable prices. Yep, Pazzo is definitely returning to our rotation. read more

Went here with my gf and her family around 8:30 pm for a late dinner and it was great. I'll speak to what my gf and I ordered just because I didn't get a try of their food but her family said it was good! We ordered the Reginella pizza and the Ravioli di Zucca e Caprino. The pizza was great and would order again. The ravioli was a bit odd just because it was served with cookie crumbs on top of it in a lemony sauce...it was more so odd bc I've never had that on top of a ravioli. I'm not sure if I would order that again but it was definitely worth the try! We also got garlic bread for the table which was great! The service was also nice! read more

I enjoy the food here, find the atmosphere nice, and love supporting a family owned business -- especially in my home town. I'm only giving 3 stars because of the off-putting behavior of one of the waiters. Several months ago he was rude to my friend and I because we asked the host for their wine list. He seemed to take it as a personal insult to him/his service and came over and in a very nasty tone told us to be patient, that it's a busy night and he would take care of us when he can. We saw he was busy and weren't bothered by the fact that he hadn't helped us yet - we just wanted to see the wine list (insert shrug emoji). That put a sour taste on the experience but we let it go. But then I took another group of friends there last night, had him as a waiter and he was rude again. He didn't seem to agree with our choice in food and got annoyed. I didn't realize what we eat was his choice? He proceeded to completely ignored us once he took our order. Literally. He would come talk to the table just a few feet from us, then walk right by without even looking at us. We did nothing to provoke this behavior and now have no desire to return. read more

Came here for family lunch and was surprised at how big the restaurant was. For some reason I thought it looked smaller form the outside. Then again it is in a mini strip mall. When you first walk in you feel like you walked into a classic Italian restaurant. The dressing was very cheesy you could definitely taste the grated cheese . I think the only thing the salad was missing was possibly a squeeze of lemon... something to brighten it. I have been here a few times and it has never disappointed me. The food is exquisite, the servers are the best, and the atmosphere is very warm. I have never been a fan of beets but I know that they are healthy for you. Today my friend and I tried the creamy red beet soup and it was dreamy! It didn't taste like beets and was the beat soup I have ever had. Gave some to my 90's dad who just wants to eat pastries, fried foods, and chocolate and he went banana's over it. Try it and you will never know it is beet soup. My dad said it reminded him of tomato soup because of the beet red color and creamy dreamy consistency but didn't taste like it. Give someone a taste of the soup and ask them what kind it is. They will never guess and will love it. Elders and kids alike. It is served hot and is not sour like traditional borsch soup. I ate here this past weekend, probably my third or fourth time in the past year or so. Sat outside under the tent. Always enjoyed the atmosphere and good food. This time, for appetizers, we ordered the meatballs, aka the polpette with ricotta, and a daily special, the fish soup with shrimp. The polpette are excellent, tasting fresh with an excellent flavor, and the ricotta cheese adds a creamy touch to the meatball. The fish soup was good, if perhaps a bit on the too fishy, although that could be a plus or a minus depending on your take on strong fish flavor. The soup has small shrimp in it along with bread crumbs with a fish soup base. For mains, we tried a daily special, a seafood risotto with clams, mussels, shrimp, and calamari in it, along with what I would call a chicken Parmesan, although the menu refers to it as chicken alla sorrentina. The risotto was a lot of food - several large shrimp and many clams and mussels. The risotto itself had a milder flavor than the fish soup, although there were occasional pockets of fishiness. There was enough that we took the leftovers home and they made a good lunch. The chicken parmesan was simple and flavorful, a breaded chicken cutlet with cheese. The side vegetables were ok, although the roasted potatoes were dry. Overall, a good dining experience, although service seemed a bit slow - but that has been true of many places I have eaten so it may not be specific to this restaurant. read more

Can I give them 6 stars??? If you're looking for Italian, Pazzo Pomodoro Vienna is amazing!!! First time there and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. I was spoiled by Italian dining when I lived in Boston so this place brings back so many memories. Fruitti di mare is my favorite and luckily it was one of their specials that wasn't on the menu. The complementary bread was warm, crispy on the outside and super soft and fluffy on the inside. The appetizer mussels were huge and so flavorful. Fried calamari was on point. I could go on. Our server was super friendly and always checked on us. All staff wore masks and gloves. The decor is cute and cozy inside. Check em out! read more

However, while the service is good you will be crammed like a sardine into the restaurant and the food is mediocre. Would give 3.5 stars if I could. After reading all the reviews I had high hopes for Pazzo Pomodoro. I'm from Chicago where there is a plethora of great and affordable Italian restaurants - northern Virginia/DC has a disappointing shortage of good Italian that doesn't cost an arm and a leg (same with Mexican) so my wife and I were really excited. We got takeout for our family tonight. Walking into the restaurant was great - everyone was super friendly and happy to help. The decor is pretty typical of your neighborhood Italian joint (up to this point everything was great!). On the drive home my car smelled so good from the food! For appetizer we ordered Bocconcini di Salsiccia (slices of Italian Sausage) - it was exactly what I wanted... bold, peppery, deeply flavorful. Excellent sauce to mop up with the bread they gave us. My youngest son wanted steak - they unfortunately don't have a kids portion for steak, so we got him the NY Strip entree. Wasn't expecting much, but the cut was surprisingly tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The side veggies were kind of a throwaway - but for $28 I thought this was a solid dish. My oldest son ordered a cheese pizza (they only have one size... again, they should consider kids sizes). It was delicious! Crust was crispy yet chewy, cheese blend was flavorful, sauce was tangy and full of basil but not overwhelming. At this point you're probably wondering why I only gave 3.5 stars. Well, my wife ordered Melanzane Parmigiana e Capellini. Hugely disappointing - the pasta was so overcooked it basically disintegrated when she twirled it on her fork. The sauce was completely flavorless. The eggplant was kind of lost in the mess of overcooked pasta - so this was really a dud of a dish. Finally, I ordered the Cavatelli di Ricotta Al Ragù di Salsiccia e Friarielli. The Cavatelli was obviously house made, and quite good. It provided the right bite and held the sauce well. But the sauce - what a mess. Overly bitter from too much broccoli rabe. The sausage in the ragu frankly tasted... old. Like it was frozen then left out to thaw for too long. Plus none of it was balanced - one bite would be rich, the next super bland, but mostly it was just flat. For a total of $90 - all that food isn't exactly a steal in the Midwest, but in NoVa the prices are reasonable. I'm hoping that my wife and I just chose the wrong main courses. Maybe we'll go back for a date night and order different main courses. Really wanted this place to be our new neighborhood Italian joint. read more

Note to self - avoid during this time period. But the fact that there are so many people waiting is very telling of the following for this restaurant. No expansion needed on this. PETTO DI ANATRA CON SALSA DI AGRUMI $22 Duck breast pan roasted with lemon orange brandy reduction The duck was tender and the reduction was sweet but not overly sweet. Had the Duck Breast Special which was with a fig reduction which I was totally in love with. I found it a little overcooked for my taste so the next time I order this I'll ask for it on the medium rare side. DESSERT: Baci di Sofia Loren $7 ~ House Specialty ~ Petite milk chocolate cups filled with zabaione & fresh berries. Tasted like little truffles and I loved the tartness of the raspberries. Zuccotto $8 ~ Tuscan specialty sponge cake w/ nuts & chocolate & vanilla cream The cake was spongy but it wasn't for me and I wouldn't order it again. Profitterole $8 ~ White and dark chocolate cream puffs Who doesn't love these? My favorite part is that you got both white and dark chocolate. Most restaurants only offer one or the other so I love that you get both. I wish the specials were presented on a sheet of paper that's not faded and difficult to read. Presentation alone for both the menu and the specials could use an upgrade. I love the casual feel of the restaurant but I wish all their menus were easier to read. read more

This is a beautiful Italian restraint on maple avenue . I come here any chance I get to have a delicious pasta meal or pizza along with Greek salad that's very good!! I'm a sucker for calamari and have been to Italy this past summer so I know wha fresh Napoli pizza tastes like and what fresh caught calamari tastes like. This place DOES NOT disappoint and exceeds expectations. The calamari was AS GOOD AS ITALY. The squid was so fresh and lightly battered. There was no chewy texture whatsoever. Went here for their late night happy hour deals with a friend and had a good time! Their main dining room isn't open during their late hours but we were able to find a spot at the bar. We ordered brussel sprouts as an appetizer and each had one of the personal pizzas, which were both very good. Overall, was a nice casual spot for drinks late night and like that they had a very extensive menu for food after hours. They also had an appetizing dessert menu: we had the pistachio cheesecake and the tiramisu which were both incredible; I was astonished by how large their portion of tiramisu was! My wife and I have dined here in several occasions previously, a boisterous local restaurant, and it's always been good. Less so this time, mostly because of mediocre service. Our dishes were...fine. My fetticini pesto with shrimp was tasty although the pasta was a touch overcooked making it slightly gummy. Our problem was with the service, where we were neglected for lengthy stretches. Our water glasses were rarely refilled (and we ran out); our wine glasses were never refilled; and we sat, ignored, at our table amongst our dirty dishes for what seemed like forever. **Restaurant where you NEED to stick with their menu** I come here for special occasions because their special edition menus are delicious. This place has an amazing home-cooked-like meals. On special holidays like Mother's Day and Father's Day, they have specials menus that are not on their normal menus, so don't try to go back again to order the special menu. Last time, they had a whole grilled fish on the special menu, which was my father's favorite. But any of their pastas and pizzas on their normal menu are great, too. Seafood pasta is so delicious. Menu Recommendation: 1. Zuppa di Pesce Della Costiera Amalfitana (Tomato Seafood Stew) - ASK FOR LESS SALT 2. Calamari Fritti o alla Griglia (Grilled Squid) 3.
