Can't figure out why this was so highly rated. Good place for kids, atmosphere-wise, but my son didn't like his mac and cheese. I had the margherita pizza, and it was just blah. Soggy crust in the middle, too chewy on the ends, spaghetti sauce instead of pizza sauce, and blobs of cheap mozzarella do not a pizza make. My husband ordered something spicy and had to ask the waitress for red pepper flakes because there was no heat on his pizza. There are better pizza spots in NoVA. In response to his response below: Nope, your Napolitano pizza isn't authentic. I'm a native New Yorker. I know what thin crust pizza by the slice should be like. I don't expect that at a restaurant that serves Napolitano style pizza. I know what Napolitano pizza should be like. Go to 2 Amys. Go to Faccia Luna, even. You'll get a better product there. The margherita pizza at Pazzo is not good. I'm not confused. I've had good. This isn't it. Fresh mozzarella isn't rubbery. Good crust isn't gluey. Spaghetti sauce isn't on a margherita pizza. Fantastic, authentic Italian food. The waiter was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, especially about wine. He recommended a wine (Verona Corvina) with my scallops that was the best wine I have ever had. My wife's filet mignon was amazing g and the risotto was to die for. I highly recommend this place. Wonderful dinner as ALWAYS at my favorite restaurant in the world - and I get around, all over Europe, especially Italy, Spain and France, and all over the US, especially DC. Tonight we had Jerry as our server for the third time, he's awesome! Everything he recommends turns out spot on. Today we had the seafood lasagna, veal milanese, a simple salad and little chocolate and cream cups, everything was divine! Another great server is Ivan, he rocks and treats us so well. Pazzo Pomodoro was always one of our favorites pre-COVID and continues to be thanks to the way they're handling safety precautions during this time. They've set up a great outdoor seating area that they plan to keep open with heating during the winter, menus are disposable and condiments are single-packaged. We had a private party there following a very solemn family event. It was my first time here. We had 30 people in their private room and all I can say is that it was super. They truly exceeded our expectations. Our server, Christopher, was perfect. Everyone that attended mentioned both the service and the food. Aside from the wood-fire oven pizzas, favorites include: Arancini, Mozzarella In Carrozza, Calamari Fritti, and Tortina Rustico Napoletano. There are some very good sandwich options for lunch, but you'll be tempted to go for the pizza. The Quattro Stagioni is a pizza divided into fourths by toppings: Mushroom, olive, artichoke, ham and it is certainly my favorite. The ambiance is pleasant and decorative with real murals and Italian paintings. Pazzo Pomodoro is the most authentic true Italian you can get in the area without a doubt. read more

Pasta, pasta, and wine! Cute place to dine with checkered table cloths and a view of the pizza oven. Go straight back and there is an almost hidden lengthy bar and high top tables with the same great food options. Specials are always available and include the market fish. I tend to just order something I'm feeling (spicy pasta sauce and penne) or my comfort food --lasagna. Absolutely my favorite. The pizza and salads are great to share. Glass of Malbec tops it off. This mom and pop restaurant is a hidden gem in a strip mall. Go once and you'll return so often you will think your turning Italian from eating there so often. read more

I can't believe I lived in Vienna when this popped up and this is my first time here. What a shame because I have been missing out for quite a while. Three of us I stopped in on a Friday night around 8, we got 3 seats at the bar..Wes, Mike, and Dan were behind the bar- they were all lovely and accommodating and really blending with the guests, it felt like everyone in the bar was friends- love it. I had the ORECCHIETTE DELICATO -House made ear shaped pasta served with shrimp & zucchini in a light pesto cream sauce- All. The. Yes. So so good. YES! Pommo Prontosaraus finally opened! I've been waiting for weeks. When I first saw the interior design, I knew it was going to be a great restaurant. Just look at the flow and detail and view of the kitchen. Awesome. While we were eating a guy (maybe one of the owners) was training as hostess, and doing a really good thorough job training. These people know how to run a good restaurant. I worked in the restaurant industry for years and know how it's not suppose to be! LOL. Our server was also excellent. Well trained staff, smoothy operated restaurant and the food... THE FOOD Real Italian, finally! Northern Virginia needed a place like this for so long. I usually go to Pupatella in Arlington for my neapolitan pizza, but this place hass it too, and it's better! I went with the simple margarita pizza, tomato sauce, cheese and basil. Perfection. Not oily at all, thin and lightly crisp, full of flavor, basil popping fresh tomato sauce. Lovely! Simple! I finished the whole thing, crust and all. One of the best pizzas I have ever had and can remember. Highly recommended. It's so simple, like Italian food should be, no excuses, no covering up flavors. The pizza hear is really great and we are lucky to have this kind of food here in Vienna and Northern Virginia. My friend got a pasta dish with a white sauce and said it was really really good too. Our waitress also had freshly grated cheese to offer and offered red pepper flakes!!! You read my mind! Way to go! I can't wait to go back in a few days. The next stop in our quest for the best Italian in the area brought us to Pazzo Pomodoro. Our curiosity was not only piqued by the fact that Pazzo Pomodoro made the 50 best restaurants list Northern Virginia magazine publishes every year in addition to Washingtonian's 2013 best new restaurants, but by the mostly raving reviews on Yelp. The location is an unassuming strip mall in Vienna. It's a small place, but the expansion is nearing completion and looks to nearly double the size of the current restaurant. Checkered tablecloths, dim lighting and candles complete the cozy, intimate atmosphere. Because it's small, the tables are quite close together, but we weren't uncomfortable and didn't find the noise level overwhelming. The pizza oven at the back of the restaurant completes the classic Italian feel. The small bar looks like a lovely spot to share a pie and a glass of wine. Our group of four started with the Assaggi di Prosciutti e Formage and the Mozzerella in Carrozza with the spicy tomato sauce. The first - a huge wooden platter of buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto was fresh and delicious. The fried mozzarella I found delicious. They were crisp on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside pockets of cheese which were so tasty dipped in the spicy tomato sauce. This was definitely a rich and filling appetizer. For dinner I tried the Tegamino di Polpette - four rather large handmade Neapolitan meatballs served in terra cotta with melted mozzarella and polenta. I found the presentation in the terra cotta pot quite nice, the sauce tasty, but the meatballs just a bit salty. My husband ordered the meat lasagna which again featured a lovely sauce, but even he proclaimed the dish salty (and he loves salt). The one dish that evening that somewhat turned me off - our friend ordered a pasta topped with crab. While it looked delicious, I could not get past the smell of fish which in my opinion the dish should not have had. Our dessert was beautiful - Baci di Sofia Loren - six small dark chocolate cups filled with zabaione and topped with a raspberry. So light and the perfect ending to our meal. Our friends ordered the mixed berry crème brulee and commented although good, they missed the traditional caramelized sugar topping. My husband was also able to enjoy an Averna - a classic Italian digestive which does not seem to be common around these parts. Tastes like tree bark to me, but reminds him of his time in Naples so I am glad he could enjoy that. I found it interesting the wine list was presented on a tablet. Nice little hint of technology. Sadly, the wine we selected was not available, but the owner came out and suggested a nice alternative which went quite nicely with our meals. After this visit I would give the food a solid 3 1/2 stars, but the friendly service and great wine recommendation, plus the fact this is a local owned business bump them up to four. We'll be back for that pizza and glass of wine at the bar. We are looking forward to seeing how the expansion pans out as well. read more

Heard a lot about this place so I decided to check it out. The owner (or at least I think it was the owner) seated us. He managed to do so without ever saying one single word! He just smiled and pointed. Although not the end of the world, not what you would expect from someone who should be happy to see you, especially if he wants you return some day! The 12 inch 'oven baked' pizza was the worst I've ever had. It's 1" of crispy crust and 11" of soggy dough. The middle of the pizza was like a wet paper towel; about the same thinness and just as soggy. The ingredients on top seemed fresh and were plentiful. I could've gotten a better 'thin and crispy' pizza at one of those other places, you know the one that looks like a hut. My daughter's fettuccine alfredo was average. Again, a disappointment considering some of the reviews. Maybe I'll go back and try again some day, but not for a while. Bon appetite! read more

My friend and I were en route to Skorpios, but we got a little lost so we pulled into the Fresh Market lot and stumbled upon Pazzo. It was a happy accident because we ended up eating at Pazzo Pomodoro and agreeing with other reviewers that the food is pretty solid. We ordered the fried mozzarella with anchovy garlic sauce to share, and each got a pasta dish (duck ragout for her and lasagna vegetariana for me). The fried cheese appetizer was gooey and creamy and went really well with the delightfully salty accompanying dip. Some greens helped to round out the starter dish and countered the richness of the cheese. My vegetarian lasagna; which consisted of homemade spinach noodles, mushrooms, spinach, and a very decadent bechamel sauce was excellent; albeit extremely rich. Definitely not a meal for every day unless you can eat super creamy, rich fare on a daily basis (I used to think I could, but those days are over). The dishes are hearty, that's for sure, and perfect for cooler weather. The crusty bread that comes out for each table before the appetizer and entree dishes arrive is fantastic, obviously very fresh. Refills, please! The prices are pretty good considering the quality of the dishes and the location. My entree was about 15 bucks, which isn't bad at all. As others have noted, the setting is quite cozy and family-oriented. There is always a charm to checkered tablecloths and black and white photos, though Pazzo succeeds in making it feel more "authentic" and less contrived. The space goes much further back than we had expected, and I believe a wood-fired oven for pizza is in the back. My only gripe was that service was a bit slow and our server wasn't as attentive as he could have been; we even ended up getting the other table's check--thank goodness my girlfriend checked before we slid our cards in and committed to paying for four glasses of wine and whatever else the lovers next door had gotten (no thanks!). All in all, Vienna has a fair amount of good dining options, and Pazzo joins the growing lists of reasons to head down 123 to the small town-feeling city. read more

This place fills a niche. It's a "tweener" family style restaurant. It's not fast and cheap, it's not super gourmet and expensive. It's a great family outing or meet up with friends kind of place for some quality servings. Truly a "local" restaurant as the owner lives and works in Vienna. Moderate variety in the standard menu options as well as daily specials (usually worthy of your consideration). A "something for everyone" kind of menu. We've sampled a fair number of the offerings and have never experienced a "miss". We enjoy the environment. However, it's often crowded at the expected crowd times. When crowded, service remains very friendly ... but can get extremely slow, do not be in any hurry if the place is full (says the genuinely impatient man to himself in order to avoid the evil eye of his "what's your hurry" wife). There is also a nice little bar area in the back. We haven't hung out there yet but it looks very inviting. We'll be back often. read more

SERVICE: PROS: The service at Pazzo Pomodoro was good. The waiter was polite, friendly, and helpful. The Owner, or at least he acted like he owned the place, Jimmy, made a point to stop by our table and say "Hello" to my wife and me. CONS: I ordered the Pesce Intero (Branzino), which is an entire fish served; your waiter is supposed to clean it prior to serving. I pulled at least 20 fish bones from my plate. As I was eating the fish, our waiter came by and apologized for not getting all the bones out as he saw a plate full of bones. (Reminder, this dish costs $28.00). FOOD: PROS: My wife ordered the Agnolotti Carmel pasta. It was tasty, but over-the-top rich. We ordered the Margherita pizza with sausage to go, which we had tonight for dinner and it was pretty good. The bread basket, which is complimentary was good. CONS: I ordered the Rucoletta salad as an appetizer. It was a plain Arugula salad with three cut up cherry tomatoes and four thin slices of Parmesan cheese. It came with a side of dressing. Overall, this dish was boring. The Agnolotti Carmel was very rich; almost repugnant towards the end. On to the Pesce Intero, while your waiter debones your fish, he heats it up with butter and olive oil. When it is finally served, it is drenched in butter and way too rich. I liked it, but then again, I was starving. Please know that the pizzas at Pazzo Pomodoro are 10", which by most standards are small and almost fall under the category of a personal pizza. Our friends, that recommended this place had the same complaint about the pizzas being on the small end. ATMOSPHERE: PROS: Pazzo Pomodoro is conveniently located off of Maple Avenue in Vienna. It's easy to get to with plenty of parking. CONS: There is nothing special about the atmosphere. It's plain. You can tell that they decorated this place on a budget. They did have table cloths and silverware, so i guess that's pretty good.
