Both dishes were delicious and their ample sizes and fantastic bbq sauce earned them high ratings, from a value/cost ratio. So, now the reason for the one star reduction. We were planning to try the place a week earlier, on a Sunday evening, as we were hosting out of town guests. We live on the golf course, so it is a pleasant 20-minute walk. We had called earlier to check if we needed a reservation, they said no and then told us that they do not close until 9:00 PM. So, we walk over and timed our arrival for 7:30. When we arrive a waiter comes over to inform us that due to it being a slow night they shut down the entire kitchen, early. Besides us four we saw two other couples get turned away, at nearly the same time. For us, it meant a 20 minute walk back to the house before we could start to find a decent open alternative, which on a Sunday evening in Simi can be a real challenge. A decent restaurant should not fluctuate its hours just because they might have a slower than average night! The following Friday they were busting at the seams, so they need to take the good with the bad and at the very least, be dependable. That is, if they want a loyal following. Perhaps this is a one off, then if so I will happily bump this place to a 5-star. But until then we will be calling the place, as we head over, each time, just to make sure they will be honoring their advertised hours of business.
