I won't leave low stars and ruin the guy's perfect ranking, super nice guy but he's losing it when it comes to organization and communication. Horrible. Forgets what's what and keeps the car forever until he figures it out with the staff. Too much business is usually a good thing, but he's so backed up as of late he's losing it. Before you drop off here, take a look at his lot and decide for yourself. If there's more than 15 cars being worked on and in line, may not be the best idea. I've the years he's been great, hence the full 5 star rating. But as of late either staffing, Covid, or surplus of cars needing service has hit these guys hard. What a great place and service. On a road trip from LA to Canada I discovered a problem with my sensor and also a drainage issue on my LR 3. Arriving in Portland I found PDX British and gave them a call. Francis said to come by and offered immediate help knowing that I am in the city for just a short amount of time. I am impressed with Francis, the owner. We have been having issues with our Range Rover and had spent lots of money on it already. Then, we drove up to Mount Hood our car started to emit a burning smells from the rear. We took it in to Francis and Francis was able to diagnose the issue. PDX are expensive. Seem like they are 20-30% more expensive than other reputable service centers that focus on Land Rovers. Additionally ever time i get a quote there is some reason that a computer needs to be used. Really ? for a Brake Job or Compressor Change out. Additionally they will always tell you they use European parts and other service centers dont, which is very much not the case. Finally - I am not sure I enjoy being told to buy a Toyota when I inquire about switching out the forever breaking air suspension systems on Land Rovers for springs. I know Land Rovers and if i want to switch out the air suspension for springs to make it more reliable - I will do just that, just somewhere else where is allot less of an attitude. read more

The owner, Francis, is so knowledgeable about Land Rovers! A few years ago we sold a Range Rover and the buyer had PDX British do a full once over purchase inspection. Francis found every little thing wrong with the car! Good for the new buyer, so much for us as sellers! :) But we were super impressed. Brought our 2010 LR4 in recently and Francis was able to fix our alternator, water pump, front and rear differentials, a computer update and several other things that had been needing to be done for quite a while. Even with it being Thanksgiving week he finished the work quickly (which is especially important for us as a one car family right now), gave us a very fair price and walked us through everything he did and why and what to take note of that the car would need later on down the line. He never tried to sell us on anything we didn't need and he was always available for phone calls and questions. We were more than pleased with his integrity, service and knowledge about Land Rovers, which he clearly loves! Then a few days later our emergency brake locked up randomly while we were driving on the highway and we got the car towed back to him. He sent for parts that came within 30 minutes and walked us through everything going on with the car. He made sure to get us our car back quickly but was super careful to test drive it himself to ensure that we would be safe leaving. He was so kind to our family (my husband, myself and our two little kids) who had to wait. He even offered to arrange a rental car for us. PDX Rovers is the best independent Land Rover repair garage in Portland. In fact it is probably the only one! I bought a Range Rover when I moved out here 5 months ago and I struggled with the idea of buying a used foreign car. Most of the struggles came from not precisely knowing the history of it and the high costs of having to fix something. I knew I needed a 60k mile service done so I called Rasmussen, the Land Rover dealer. They wanted over $1,000 for it. Francis and PDX Rovers did it for less than $500! Oil changes are only $25 if you go to their website and print off the coupon before you go. PDX Rovers have put my fears at ease and I know that I have an honest, thorough, and experienced auto mechanic that is very fairly priced. $40,000 in damages thanks to PDX British totaling my engine--for a routine oil change. After this experience, I scoured reviews and found a couple of disturbingly bad ones- took them to Court!- hidden under "not recommended reviews" I hope this helps someone. My LR4 simply needed a routine oil change, my go to servicer Jaguar Landrover was booked out for a month-- so I gave PDX BRITISH a try... This is our family car, we drive it everyday, dogs, kids school, errands, mountain, beach--this car has NEVER had ANY issues. We drop it off at PDX British for an oil change-- we get a call later that day they will change oil, clean out dirty air system, and then he offered their signature suspension tightening that only PDX British knows how to do and that this adjustment will last the lifetime of the car- I say "OK". Next day, car is ready for pick up--$4500. We drive home. That night, engine over heats, smoke everywhere. We tow it back to PDX British. They find a coolant hose issue- fix it $1500 car is ready for pick up. Drive home, that night -engine overheats again, smoke everywhere.  My husband has it towed back to PDX British-but I don't want them to touch my car, I show up in the morning and have it towed away from PDX BRITISH to Portland Jaguar Landrover-- they find: mysterious extensive pressure on the coolant system the head gasket is blown & the engine may need be replaced- I'm looking at $15,000 to $40,000 in damage. Their response- we made notes - fixed the leaky hose, refilled coolant- why then 2 consecutive tows after they "fixed" my car--a car that for 3 years NEVER had Any issues. read more

Wonderful family owned shop with great service! I am a female college student who owns a 1998 range rover, so I don't know alot about car parts and my car needs routine maintenance. PDX rovers didn't make me feel intimidated to come into their shop, ask questions, and be honest with me about what my car absolutely needed and what it didn't necessarily need right away, no other car repair place has been able to do this for me. They did a routine inspection for free, an oil change for $25 AND even fixed an annoying beep that came on every time I turned my car on, for free!! I am one of those crazy landrover fanatics. Driven them for thirty years and on some serious adventures. I do some of my own maintenance time permitting. I look my LR3 to pdx british for a $150.0k service. I knew the vehicle was in perfect condition. Francis said for any new vehicle they like to check them over . I said fine go ahead. Francis came back and said it was in perfect conditiin. He even said the 150.0k service was unnessary as I had done it bit by bit pervioulsy. Francis knows landrovers - and he's honest which is a requirement for me to go anywhere. I could see they use high quality parts and do quality work. I have been taking my car here for over two years now. I believe they are the best antidote to dealer service and repairs. There is something to be said about a family owned business where the owners are passionate about the vehicle and its owner. Their office wall is chock full of accolades from grateful customers, and their mechanics the thoughtful and honest. I am pretty sure that you can find someone somewhere cheaper to fix your Land Rover, but this outfit will beat inflated local dealer prices on most mundane service and repair items, and do a satisfactory job that meets manufacturer standards. One thing I miss is their old waiting room inside the service bay where you were smack in the middle of the action, and could watch you car being worked on while you waited. Another improvement they can make is not have the customer fill out the "new customer" form every time you go there. This is 2011, and customer and vehicle info should all be on their computers. read more

Yet again, the PDX British guys came to the rescue! I have taken my 1997 Discovery, manual transmission, to these guys for nearly ten years and they have NEVER failed me. I drove cross country in my Rover 15 years ago to Portland. Two years later, I got rear-ended at 75 miles an hour and barely tapped the guy in front of me. My car (and my body) took all of that impact force...no structural damage to my baby that saved my life. Several years later, I met Francis at then PDX Rovers when my car was in a desperate state. He managed to take care of me, explaining in detail everything needed and why and gave me incredibly reasonable pricing. Alas, I was not a millionaire, nor am I now. Ever since, I have gotten all oil changes, advice, gained incredible knowledge, and have been able to keep a most treasured vehicle because of PDX British. This past Monday, I called at 7:30 in the morning to ask if they had time to take care of some oil leaks, major service, etc...in the next week or so, as I will be moving out of state and taking the Rover on about a thousand mile road trip: Crater Lake and back to Portland, then Astoria to San Francisco for a permanent move along Route 101. What needed to be done was gargantuan. Not only did they take the car right away, but they also completed all the work necessary in two and a half days. Miracle! I am ready for my move and I have my baby back! All thanks to Francis and his crack team of Rover enthusiasts/specialists who are not only HONEST and friendly, but also reasonably priced and absolute treasures! THANK YOU PDX BRITISH!!! Frances, the owner, personal scheduled my initial appointment and then spent several minutes with me going over everything upon completion. Frances is all about full transparency and making sure his customers see and understand what they are paying for. He is a very honest and ethical business owner. I will NEVER take my Range Rover to any other Range Rover mechanic shop- including Land Rover dealership of Portland. Decent guys, but a little pricey. I've lived in the UK and there's nothing mysterious about Land ROvers. Nothing different than a Ford or Chevy in the US but a lot of BMW, Mercedes, and LR shops like to put on an air of complicity to justify overcharging you. The big negative at this shop is that they will put their logo license plate cover on your car without even asking. After my initial WTF!!??, I just took them off. Dear Terry, I just wanted to write you and tell you how impressed I was with your caring attitude and fantastic service. Last Friday we spoke after you were able to diagnose the problem of my Land Rover. You informed me that an alternator fuse had burned out and it was very rare for that particular fuse to go out. You did not have any in stock and you had to order it from the dealer who also happened to be out of them. That meant the dealer had to order a new fuse and it may not be available to you until the following Tuesday. Since it was a Friday you said you didn't want to see me without transportation over the entire weekend so you swapped out my fuse with one from one of your own cars so that I could pick up my car the same day. Not having a car until more than likely the following Tuesday would have been a major inconvenience for my family and I really appreciated what you did because you didn't have to do it. You did it because you cared. On top of that my radio had also stopped playing and after a few minutes you were able to diagnose the problem to be another blown fuse. You replaced it for free. You could have told me anything. You could have said that a dozen different things were wrong and charged me whatever you wanted to charge me and I would have had to believe you but instead you were honest. You said it was only a fuse. I say this in the hopes that other people can one day read this and know that in an industry where companies seem to be only concerned about how much money they can make there are still people like you and companies like PDX Rovers who actually want to help people and provide them with good, honest service. Do not ever take your beloved Land Rover here! It is a shop that not only lies about repairs needed to your vehicle, they put used parts when doing repairs. I had to have work redone to my vehicle after having PDX British work done. If I could save ANYONE the financial disaster that I went through...this review was well worth it. I went here with a blown airbag from my range rover figuring that they'd be okay with a carry-out, no installation, just parts transaction. Apparently they weren't too keen on that idea. In addition (the owner I believe) basically called me stupid for wanting to keep the EAS system, opposed to the much cheaper option of a coil conversion, which I'm sure he'd have loved to have sold to me. The owner needs to realize if I wanted cheap and reliability I would have bought a Toyota. After getting a quote for $680 for parts that I later obtained elsewhere for $539, I've decided against recommending this shop to anyone. read more

Needed to have a 105,000 mile tuneup done on my 2008 Range Rover Sport. I called around to several independent dealers as well as Land Rover of Portland. I spoke with Frances (Owner) and told me about his company and what sets himself apart from the competition. After talking to several places I decided to take my vehicle to PDX British. I based this not only off of price (which was the best) but he included some items other hadn't and i liked that he WANTED to EARN my business. Side note....Land Rover of Portland 3 days later, has still not even returned my call !!! Frances was able to get me in the following day to get the inspection and tune up done. Upon arrival he had the vehicle taken immediately into the shop and he and his team had the car on the lift and started the inspection. The cool part here is that i got to stay and be part of the inspection process. Some other issues were detected and I got to see first had what was the problem. Never been to a shop where that was the norm. I had to get going shortly there after, but upon my arrival to get the car later that afternoon it was me in the shop once again as they finished the final touches on the car. I got to see the actual work that was done and meet the rest of the team. The best part is the car now drives like a dream! Very happy with the quality of work done and the new feel of my car. 2/22/2012-My wife and I have been taking our Rover to PDX Rovers since 2006. They always provided quality service, until the last year or so. They told us we needed to replace the alternator & battery which we had done on November 25, 2011. We started noticing issues within the first 4-6 weeks. The battery light was always coming on, the wipers would barely work, etc. I took the car back and explained what was happening. One of their mechanics came out with a hand held device for detecting a charge. He touched it to my battery and said it's fine, the battery is holding a charge. I decided to get a second opinion because things kept getting worse. I took it to the Land Rover dealer this morning and they advised me that both my battery & alternator were bad. I told them they were just replaced in November ( 4 months ). They told me that PDX Rovers installed a NAPA after market battery which is not what the manufacturer recommends for these cars. Land Rover recommends Interstate batteries which are what comes standard in all Land Rovers. They told me the NAPA battery was not sufficient and caused a drain on power which caused both the alternator and battery to go bad in 4 months. I know PDX Rovers knows that a Interstate battery is what the manufacturer recommends, I'm curious as to why they would install a lesser quality battery in the car. Needless to say I have to have both devices replaced after only 4 months. PDX Rovers also told me during this same time period that I needed a hose replaced on my radiator due to a leak. I had the dealer check that our for me as well since I was there. They pressurized my cooling system and checked all the hoses and told me that everything was fine with my radiator hoses. I hate to speculate, but these events make you wonder what their motives are. Until today no other mechanic had ever worked on our Land Rovers except PDX Rovers. I sent Francis an email about my concerns in January and never received a response back. When you are a loyal customer spending thousands of dollars with a company I would expect better. read more
