David did some research and responded to my inquiry with different 3 different options (good, better, best). I appreciate the effort that went in to providing me with multiple options and absolutely no pushy sales. My mom's tire warning on the dash happened to turn on while we were dropping off my car and David without hesitation stopped what he was doing to take a look and helped correct the issue. Thank you!! They have $165 diagnostic fee. I had a pretty good idea what the issue was, and the most common fix is a relatively inexpensive so throwing on an additional fee seemed like a unneeded expense. I understand that some shops want to diagnose the issue themselves and charge for it. That is totally ok, but give me a heads up. So I dropped my key off and then picked it back up 2 minutes later after thinking about how this diagnostic fee was going to add 20% to my cost. They didn't actual do any work on my car so this review is just about the booking and general value, not repair quality. The man at the desk brushed off my suggestion that they should give people a heads up when they schedule. Another mechanic (not Hi-Tech) claimed our Honda CRV's rear differential was leaking. They quoted us $4,900 for a rear differential replacement. Since this was basically "why not just buy a new car" territory, we were aghast as we had owned it less than two years, and had initially paid $17,000 for the vehicle. We took it to Hi-Tech Auto for a second opinion. They discussed other possibilities such as repairing the leak which the first shop said would be impossible. They did diagnostics, putting ink in the fluid and having us drive it around for a few weeks. It turns out there was no evidence of a leak after all, they simply cleaned up the differential and there were no signs of the ink leaking. Hi-Tech Auto saved us from paying $4,900. I was refered to them by a locksmith who said the problem with my ignition needed a mechanic. Because my key can turn. They wanted me to bring my car in. I wanted to know how much replacing my ignition switch would cost. I looked online it stated at most less then $300. But this is Oregon, so I figured that translated to $400. However they never bothered to get back to me. I probably would have been good paying $500, but got it done elsewhere for $120. Too bad for Hi-Tech. Bad customer service. read more
