I adore local joints like this. It really is the Cheers of south county, where everybody seriously does know your name. The Proverbial Boy and I decided upon Peanuts for an 'early' (meaning, before 2pm) lunch before he headed up for the USC/Notre Dame game. Although the beer selection leaves much to be desired, having Amber Bock and Stella on tap is definitely a nice touch (instead of falling to expectation and only having Water or Water Lite drafts). Come in, engage in a friendly convo, dig the classic rock station, watch some sports on the flat screens, dive into the peanuts, throw that shiznit on the ground, laugh with the other patrons and relax. Yeah I think I can manage those rules. I ordered the spicy tuna on squaw, PB got the Italian on sourdough, we split a bratwurst out of curiosity, and between us we had two Stellas and an Amber Bock. The spicy tuna is SO FREAKING GOOD. I, too, wonder what makes it spicy. Although PB slathered his sandwich in mustard, I still tried it and LOVED it. The Italian meats are so pronounced and flavorful, and PB even appreciated the pepperoncinis which he typically doesn't enjoy. The brat is hand-selected from Wisconsin -- definitely not that crap you buy pre-packaged at the store -- and the bun was nice and buttery. Omg. And for a combined total price of less than $25, what a steal. The food is great, the beer is cold and cheap, and the people are good at heart. But it's just the magical combination of all the above, taking it all in with my favorite person in the world, plus just being such a quaint hole in the wall with all the charms of a hidden neighborhood gem, that made me fall in love with Peanuts. read more

Pretty cool little place for South OC. I used to come here for lunch every so often when I worked in the area. For the most part, the sandwiches, portions, and prices are average, though the Spicy Tuna Sandwich is pretty good. The key to the 4 stars here is the tin bucket of peanuts that you can eat that is free of charge. What to do with the shells? Throw them on the floor! You emptied your bucket? Get a free refill! Do this while waiting for your sandwich, watching whatever talk show is gracing their TV, and downing a beer or three. Then go back to work :) (if you are a past or present employer of mine this is a hypothetical scenario.... really...) I love the atmosphere in this place. After a tough golf game a couple of buddies recommended we drop by Peanuts for lunch. I had my favorite sandwich shops in mind, both of which were closer (I was starving), but they promised me the best Italian sub I had ever eaten. This was a tall order, which I felt fairly certain they would not be able to make good. As is evident by my five stars, Peanuts delivered, and then some. One look at the menu and you'll not only like the prices, but the variety is amazing. I was impressed right off. Not only is the atmosphere fun and friendly, so is everyone we met and served us. The place is a hoot, not to mention the complimentary buckets of peanuts are extraordinarily fresh (noting like Angle Stadium...). The only challenge we had was debating whether the Italian sub is best served cold or toasted. I opted for the owner's recommendation and was elated I did - it was simply out of this world, unbelievably delicious... As to how I had it served, you'll have to go to find out. I do want to add that portion was ginormous- so much so that I took half of it home for my teenage son who agreed it was by far the best sub he's ever eater. No exaggeration folks, it really is that good. Great place to chill and unwind. Definitely not a liberal hangout and that is nice. A full-sized Trump carboard cutout in the corner let's you know what those maskers can do with their expectations. If you are not a free-spirited adult that respects the opinions and actions of other adults then do not come in here. Great food too and the beer is always cold. Many regulars frequent here but they are pleasant and accommodating to those who are new, as long as they are not Karen's espousing their control-like behavior onto others. Drove from Irvine today for their roast beef sandwich. My boss has been treating us to sandwiches from peanuts for the past 10+ years - and I love it! I'm pregnant and was craving roast beef and Peanuts was the only place i could think of that makes it like i like. They dice their veggies, including pickles, which makes for a really good sandwich spread. The roast beef on a large roll w provolone and all the veggies is delicious! better than Mr pickles across the way and in my opinion jersey mikes. Its very casual in here with peanut shells on the ground and is more of a little dive bar than deli, but their food is great! read more

What a fun little place! Did I say little? BF and I were passing time in Lake Forest waiting to pick up his son. Had two hours to kill and happened upon this little gem. It just so happens that the Stanley Cup Finale was on and we got a table! Oh some things are just meant to be :) Friendly little neighborhood watering hole (did I say little?) with a group of regulars that seemed to know each other well. Kind of a Cheers atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be just off work and stopping by to have a beer and shoot the you know what with their buddies before going home. I went to this bar with my coworkers on a Friday night and there was surprisingly a good amount of people at around 8 pm. This place is a dive bar. They offer free peanuts and people just throw the shells on the floor. We got a couple of pitchers of beer and nachos. The nachos were very normal. It kind of felt like they got chili from a can and microwaved cheese with it. Overall, I think this place is good if you want to grab a couple of beers after work but I wouldn't get food there. read more

Wow. This review fell through the cracks. I came here like a long time ago and ordered a Pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was definitely very good, but this place is more bar than deli if you catch my drift. Just went to get lunch and if it weren't for the young woman there I would have left. The old woman there is so rude. I walked in and she never acknowledged me for about 5 minutes I just stood there like an idiot. I was about to turn and leave when the younger one came over and smiled and asked if I had been helped. I Love the food, but service from the older ones is terrible, just have to say pick your visits here carefully. The young ladies there are so nice and again the food is good.
