Trustworthy, quick, transparent. I've been bringing my 2011 Mini in for about 4 years and have had nothing but good experiences. The first time something had to be replaced, I called around to compare pricing and found them to be very fairly priced. I appreciated Johann's detailed explanation of what had to be done and his suggestion to hold off on certain things that didn't necessarily have to be fixed yet (for budget reasons). Most recently, my engine light went on and I brought the car in for a check up - they ran a test, test drove it, and found everything to be ok! When I picked it up, Angelina had even washed my car AND didn't charge me! The engine light came back on now (as was expected) and I feel confident about bringing my car back in to Pearce. read more

I have a Mini Cooper s, and the car has been having problem for few months. When I was still under the extended maintenance warranty with the dealership, I took it in. After they changing me for diagnosis fee and couldn't find anything wrong. I finally took it to Yohann and he got back to me right after few hours and told me the carbon filter needed to clean up and that was the main issue for the car. I was surprised that the dealership can't catch that. I guess my warranty about to expire, and they just didn't want to take care of it. After Yohann able to find the prob, I went back to the dealer to have them take care of it because the prob occurred before my maintenance warranty was out and it was just a month ago when I took it into their shop. We worked it out. Anyway, Yohann was awesome, he was very knowledgeable and explain everything very clearly. I surely would use them for now on since all my warranties are expire with the dealer now. These guys are great!! My hubby took our '96 VW GTI there for an oil leak and transmission leak. They fixed the oil leak and a few other minor things, even fixing a broken tail light at no charge! They said they could fix the trans leak but it requires new hoses and would probably cost over $350 to do so. He said if we just keep it topped off with fluid we should be fine. I just know that when I used to take the car to Royal Motor they would scour the car looking for anything wrong with it and telling us it absolutely needed to be fixed at the highest charge possible. These guys are different, they are really friendly and honest, they even drove my hubby home while the car was being fixed and offered to pick him up!! read more

After moving to S.F., I was anxious about finding a new mechanic. It seems few Volvo-trained mechanics want to bother looking at, much less work on, an '84 Volvo wagon. After consulting Yelp, I saw Pearce Autotech had a high rating and cautiously decided to give them a try. In short, Pearce Autotech is amazing! It's the first place I've found friendly service, timely work, old-fashioned honesty and fair pricing all together in one automotive shop. I would have no qualms about sending my Grandmother here to get her car repaired. It's that good! I've had my fuel pump and ignition system fixed, received lots of useful advice and even some help acquiring hard-to-get parts. Pearce will make you wonder why you ever wasted time and money elsewhere. The shop is clean, efficient and even though it's usually quite busy, I've always been given the friendliest, attentive service. What a marked difference from Royal Motors. They were fast, responsive, and entirely helpful. The dealer quoted me $1,200 to replace passenger airbag...they fixed the wiring for $200. It's amazing what a difference there is. These guys are above board and amazing. read more

I was taking my Mini to the dealer, I always assumed they charged a little more but one day just felt like it was just too much. I asked around and a friend of mine referred me to Pearce Autotech. I just took my car in and had the brakes fixed- they were MUCH cheaper then what the dealer wanted to charge me- plus so much nicer, and they really explained everything to me. I have a 2003 Mini and had just been searching for a good service place. The car had been in LA before and serviced at the dealer there. The best place I found in SF was all the way over in Marin, but was so-so. I found Pearce through Yelp and was about to make an appointment when the clutch died. I got it towed to Jason. He gave me an estimate with worst case/ best case costs, depending on what he found when he took it apart and offered me a ride home. He called with the good news, then called when car was done but said he would like to keep it over night because after doing so much work he wanted to start it up and let it cool down several times to make sure it was all fine. He found some wires mis-connected, rubbing unnecessarily and put them back the way they came from the factory. He showed me what was wrong with the clutch, answered all my questions, and gave me some clutch pointers that I asked for. He was great--just check out his website for his experience: pearceautotech.com He only works on Minis (not BMWs), Audis, Volvos, Saabs and Volkswagens because he said the engines are similar and he would rather be really good with just a few makes of vehicles. If you're looking to get great service on your Audi, MINI, or VW this is the place! I've been going to Pearce for years now and have had nothing but five-star service. Whether it's for a simple oil change, or something a little more complex, everything is always repaired in a timely manner along with informing me along the way of what is going on. I have never been talked down to and they have been great at patiently explaining something to me when I don't understand. Jason Pearce and Yohan Li (sorry if I slaughtered his name) are the best in the biz. I most recently brought my 2006 VW GTI in for an oil change and to have them check out an issue when starting the car. It turned out to be a worn fuel pump and cam shaft which would have ended up costing me almost $2K but Jason recommended I inquire with the dealer to see if it was covered under an extended warranty and in fact it was! I am loyal to these guys for their dedicated hard work. If you are going anywhere else, you're definitely missing out on some world class service.. read more

HONEST, HONEST, HONEST...Ladies, did I say their honest? Here's the quick rundown: Pros: Clean Honesty (not honest for a mechanic, but honest like the way we judge everyone else) Prices are reasonable & they explain everything, even telling you their cost They've always answered my questions (even the "stupid" ones) without making me feel dumb for asking or not understanding Call you when they say they will Repairs are handled pretty quick ECO Friendly (i guess as much as you can be at a repair shop) They don't charge for diagnostics if they're doing the repairs (i still cant figure out how some places get away with that. Im talking to you VW dealerships) If the aren't TOO busy they'll give you a ride (using your vehicle) Restroom is relatively clean, but the place overall is REALLY clean, smallish but clean Location is prime (SOMA, near dwntwn & the bridge), so if they're too busy to give you a ride you can easily catch a cab, uber, or public transport for cheap When you come to pick up your car you don't have to wait more than 5min for them to bring it around the corner, and its washed (again im talking to you VW, are you building me a new one?!?) Cons: Your car is sick so you had to go see them, which usually means $ **i dont think i can fault them for that though** There's only two chairs and they're pretty close to the door/desk so you're usually standing (no waiting room), but then a waiting room would signify you're expected to WAIT there more than 5-10min which has nvr been the case Full Review: Honesty & integrity not the all mighty dollar is clearly what runs this place & has made them my technician since 2010. I cant believe I've never written a review. I've been burned by so many mechanics (including FOUR VW dealerships) Jason & Yohannes were like angels sent to me bc i came here whn they only had 4 yelp reviews. 1st time here they fixed a coolant & "lawnmower" type sound that had been plaguing my 04 jetta for a little over a year. VW kept replacing the same part & recharging me each time it "failed" claiming "its just a poor design of the car, and the sound, you'll get used to it they all sound like that over time." Ughh, really? Then VW of Plesanton (yes, i drove to plesanton for a 2nd opinion) gave me a $3k list of stuff thats "wrong" with my car. After paying $1100 and still not having things "fixed" i decided to try Pearce. $500 later the problem just went away & hadn't resurfaced. They gave me a list of recommendations (1600) in order of importance, and told me I was good for at least 8mos. (i think it was brake pads, struts, and a minor leak). VW had me thinking my car was going to fall apart. So fast forward to present day & my car started running warm but only when parked & running. (weird) Went to VW of Roseville bc I live here now. They quoted me $800 for a sensor & thermostat after $100 diagnostic. This all sounded familiar so i called up Pearce & they quoted me half of that but they'd have to check it out... THEN Jason (owner) says, "that's easy work, I dont want you to drive all the way out here, why not try a regular mechanic close to you, they don't have to specialize in Euro cars." But wait, it gets better, he says "didn't we do something like this when you 1st came in? Checks his records & says "we changed your sensor for you before only four years & not that many miles ago, if that's whats wrong, I wont feel comfortable charging you for that. But I wld have to charge for the thermostat." Who does that?!? Needless to say I drove 100mi to SF, around 1130 i spoke to Yohannes who put in the sensor & said he was going to test it for an hour to determine if the thermostat need to be changed also since my car never overheated. I got a call back, "nope, your all good and we topped off your fluids." And my car has been running AMAZINGLY. I was looking over my diagnostic from VW which had front struts in red as NEED TO BE DONE IMMEDIATELY & I called Jason today re, hey I'm thinking about doing those front struts but money is tight, how much is it again, i lost my paperwork. He gives me the quote & reminds me of what front struts are, and if money is tight its something I can save up for, my car wont fall apart I should just be cautious & keep in mind that my tires are wearing quicker bc my front struts are bad. I mean really? I feel like I'm in good hands & he's worth the 100mi drive. They don't make they're money by scaring you or trying to gouge every penny out of you when you get there, but by being honest & doing good work for a fair price. Oh & ive been to other so called Euro mechanics & gotten taken advantage of, which is what sent me to dealerships in the 1st place. Its my understanding they only service Mini, Audi, SAAB & VW so they know their sphere & perfect what they do best. read more

Integrity. That's all I can say. I had the worst month in the life of my 2004 mini cooper this past October. It had been low maintenance until that month, right when I was about to move out of state. I grumbled a little at the cost of the repairs - brakes, tires, alignment, etc. When I took it home, it was making such a noise! A new and very annoying noise. I took it back it and learned it was the transmission. They felt responsible . . . NOT for the transmission, but for not catching it when they had the car earlier. SO responsible, in fact, that they discounted the charges considerably. The day before moving, they called with more bad news: the replacement transmission turned out to be defective. I could work out the move part, but I had no arrangements for my car until I returned to SF to pick it up. Pearce, maintaining their stellar customer care ethics, stored my car in a nearby lot for a MONTH! No charge. They went above and beyond to reduce the burden on me. It doesn't get much better than that! read more

Flippin fantastic. These guys are great. If I didn't have the extended warranty on my Mini, I would just come here. Their prices are so much better than the Mini Dealership and they are much more helpful!! And I've also showed up without an app on two different occasions bc of lights going off in my mini that I had no idea what they were and most recently since all the rain, two huge puddles of water on the drivers side. They made me feel like I was top priority and didn't even charge me for helping me fix the sunroof issue. Seriously, just great guys! Thank you so much for all your help! First off, let me say I am so glad I found this place on a whim! My husband and I were eating brunch close by ( The Creamery.. So good!) Anyways, after brunch we decided to walk it off, my husband has a 2002 Mini Cooper and he has been having problems with it, so when we saw this shop we decided to check it out, he spoke to a nice man named Yohan, since I'm a woman who knows nothing about cars they were speaking another language to me :) so, I was outside the shop waiting for him. My husband then called me over, and he told me that they now work on BMWs!! Which is great for me cause I own one! I use to take it to SF BMW but their service just has been so disappointing to me. The staff at this shop is so nice and their prices seemed very reasonable, I also met the owner Jason, who was so sweet and accommodating, he allowed me to bring my car in tomorrow (Thursday)! I hated having a month long service waiting list for my Mini at the dealership and did my research to find the next best alternative. Pearce has reasonable prices and extremely knowledgeable with the cars they work with. (Mini Cooper specific). Yohannes always gives me a heads up with upcoming services and when my tires are wearing down, so I can anticipate how much money I need to put aside for car maintenance. Not sure I can add much to what has already been said. These guys are GREAT. I often feel intimidated when dealing with anything automotive. Johannes and the rest of the Pearce team always give the straight dope. I initially brought my 7 year old Mini Cooper in after the dealer in Concord told me that I needed about $2000 worth of work. It just did not sound right to me. I called Johannes and explained my situation over the phone. He was honest and told me that while he could not diagnose the problem without seeing the car, even if was what the dealer told me, the cost would be half as much. I decided to have my car towed to Pearce, and boy am I glad I did. They ran a diagnostic and did NOT come to the same conclusion...total charges were around $600. That was 2 years ago and Ive been going there ever since. Minis can be temperamental and dont always give yiu a warning as to whats up. The staff always make sure I understand whats been done and how to take care if her between visits. They understand the importance of customer satisfaction and cultivating long term relationships. I've worked on cars for most of my life; but as times change, cars get a little more tricky. I aquired my '96 VW Golf for next to nothing, and put all new seals in myself - but then I couldn't get it timed correctly to save my life. I called Jason, and after explaining the situation he offered to clear all my codes and read any new codes for free! Not only did he do this for me, but also taught me how to time the engine myself. This is the real deal, not a fake ranting review. Jason has repaired my car several times. Most recently, I called last minute while his garage was full with other customers and he got the job done in a 5 hour turn around. Ive had everything from clutch, brakes , front end and tires replaced by Jason and his team. As a small business owner I am always thrilled to see the pride in ownership with other small businesses. This shop is clean and I mean CLEAN. Not to mention, I had minor work and a tune up done on my '91 BMW and now it runs like a champ. I am so tired of dishonest mechanics. It is rough for a woman to get a fair deal. I called around to get quotes for the work I needed done and had my boyfriend call a week later for the same quote. I found Pearce Autotech on YELP after getting ripped off (again) by the Mini dealer. I figure any place with this many 5 star reviews can't be too bad. I was not disappointed! Jason is perhaps the only HONEST and KNOWLEDGEABLE mechanic around. If you're having problems with your Mini Cooper, I would bring your car here first and talk to Jason before going anywhere else. The service is efficient, reliable, and reasonably priced. They're super nice here and the place is spotless and they do extra nice things like they took me home/picked me back up after my repairs. My first visit to Pearce, found them through Yelp! Overall was an excellent experience. Major clutch and other work done on my Mini on short notice over 2 days. Work had to be completed because we were taking a long trip immediately after the repair work. I asked Jason to do a thorough road test after the work to make sure no surprises on the road.
