I found Jason and Johann at Pearce in 2009 for my 2003 Mini (stick shift) when the clutch went. Having used OK but not great place in north bay, and dealer in SF (horrid) , and went to them regularly after that for any issues (regular servicing, weird noises, tire questions, car worries and anything else, big or small) until I sold it before moving back to the UK (steering wheel on wrong side!). They are the nicest and kindest guys, and even said they would miss me as I will them and to stop by if I come back to SF for a visit. My bf found this place on the internet so I called Jason and we made an appointment for the next day. Not only did he do everything I needed done and more for a way cheaper price, but they drove me to work when I dropped my car off initially and Jason looked into better deals for me for another issue I was having with my car. I went into Pearce to get my air conditioning system repaired, and front brake changed on my Saab. They came back and said that rear breaks needed to be changed as well, and that I had a leaky oil gasket. After the car was fixed, the brakes made a funny noise every time i use them, which when i went back to talk to them about, they acted like it didn't exist. A year later the air conditioning went back to not working, and they now say they don't work on Saabs anymore. Doing a little research, i was charged way more for the air conditioning fix then what is available at other vendors. Wish I went somewhere else for this service. read more

Wow, these guys more than deserve all these five star reviews, and I'm happy to add another one. I took my 1998 VW Golf in a few months ago because there was something wrong with the A/C, my vents were emitting a funny smell, and the car also needed a general checkup. Turns out, the A/C was damaged from a recent car accident. When I panicked at the prospect of paying a small fortune to fix it, Jason told me the car would be fine without the A/C system, as long as I could live without it. So, thanks to Jason's advice, I passed on the A/C repair (I live in San Francisco for god's sake -- why would I need A/C?). Jason saved me a ton of money because of his honesty and his responsiveness to my needs. Then, Jason told me the general checkup showed I needed new brakes. Jason and his ream repaired them quickly and for a reasonable cost -- about $450. Finally, to top it all off, Jason cleaned out my air vents -- at no charge -- and freshened them up with Simple Green. I got my car back at the time they promised, and with the new brakes and the Simple Green, suddenly it seemed like a new car again. So, yeah, if you are a VW owner looking for friendly and honest service and someone who definitely knows their stuff about your car, Jason and the guys at Pearce Autotech are your team. My wife's Mini is out of warranty, and so we wanted nothing to do with the price-gouging dealer anymore. And so Yelp led us to Pearce Autotech, and we were not disappointed. I received instant quotes over the phone from Jason and later Yohan regarding some major work that needed to be done. Yohan talked me through EVERYTHING, including some things that COULD need to be done once they got in there and got a full look at the car. He gave me a quote for that and everything else, all without asking. In short, both Yohan and Jason were very honest and up-front right from the word "Go," and that professionalism carried through to the end of the job. We have definitely found a new service home for my wife's Mini. These are the kind of people you dream about dealing with when you dread having to take your aging car in for out-of-warranty service. Okay, I n-e-v-e-r write reviews but my experience at Pearce Autotech yesterday - I just had to! The clutch needed replacement on my '03 Golf GTI. Bummer! Even more so, as I was quoted almost up to 1.8k at various auto repair shops around town. Jason was able to do it for amost half the cost, was very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Best part: I was able to drop the car off the next morning and pick it up the following afternoon. Pearce Autotech is AWESOME. I've had my fair share of horrible shop experiences, and it is awesome to find a diamond amongst the zirconia. My Audi drives like a brand new car, except that it's been my baby for 10 years. Now that Jason and company have given it the right attention it needs, I actually prefer driving it daily to my M3. That's HUGE, especially since I was ready to give up on it due to some nightmare "repairs" done by a shop who was reputable way back when. Short of the tale. 2007 Mini S broke down and had to pull off freeway. MiniSF service phone kept getting bounced to reception?? My previous experience with MiniSF I had a steering problem (under warranty) and it took 3 pairs of tires and 4 appointments to finally fix the steering problem (are the mechanics green or just speak manualese). Ahhhh..Postcard from Pearce Autotech. I called and they listened/advised. Towed to Pearce. Repaired cylinder head (Ouch$$$$$$!) Jason and Johann very knowledgable and sincere in sharing their expertise. Got schooled on carbon build-up and recommendations. Found Pearce Autotech on Yelp and so glad I did. Needed a new battery. Called Pearce last night after a conversation with the SF Mini dealer in which the dealer quoted a really high price, couldn't get me an appointment until next week, and, as per usual, had an off-putting attitude. Pearce, on the other hand, was like: come in first thing tomorrow morning, we'll do it while you wait. Came in this morning at 8 and Jason was looking out for me. Battery is changed, car's computer told there's a new battery, everything is explained, I get a little tutorial about what else to look out for, they top the coolant off on the house, and I'm on my way by 8:13. Seriously, that may have been the most productive 13 minutes of my year so far. And the price was much better than the dealer's--natch. So already I'm liking this place and planning to use them in the future. Then I stop at the grocery store. Car starts fine afterwards; battery issue resolved. Then the same engine light comes on that was on before the battery was replaced. I think maybe it's about the battery, and either way should be looked at, so I call Pearce. Jason is like--come on back. I get back and they run some tests. Turns out, not the battery, but again, everything is explained clearly, with options, and respectfully, despite my obvious ignorance. Long story short, going back on Monday. Every other car I've ever had, I've had serviced at the dealer, but Pearce is so much better than the SF Mini dealer that I don't even have words to quantity how much. Great service. Pearce Autotech was significantly cheaper than VW while including more items in the service. And they seemed more knowledgeable about the car than the folks at the VW dealer! I asked Pearce Autotech to change the transmission fluid if necessary (I was not sure if it was done by the prior owner). They tested the fluid and decided that it was still good, so they didn't replace it. What a great way to build customer trust! I will be back for the next service on my VW GTI without a second thought. read more

My Mini Cooper died on the freeway on the way through the city. I had to get a jump start at the airport so I suspected it was the battery. I called my wife and she found you guys and said you had great yelp reviews so she called and said I would be there just as soon as I could get a tow.
