They made the fix on the 2001 volvo S40 (timing belt) for $300.00 cheaper than was quoted at the other shop, and finished the day I brought it there. when I asked them to check on the exhaust manifold because I was quoted a $1,000 fix at the other shop, they said, it looked ok and that all they needed to do was replace two bolts, which they did for no extra cost! read more

as it happens, I had the experience of taking my 2004 Mini to a Mini dealer one day, and to Pearce Autotech the very next day. The difference in the experience (not to mention the price) was night and day. The dealer charged me almost 10% more than the written estimate (without calling me to OK it first), and the car was filthy (to be fair, it was filthy when I dropped it off). When I picked up from Pearce the price was exactly as expected, AND the car was shiny-clean. If you have the cars he will service (Mini, Audi, VW, i think) -- no need to look any further. read more

Having a taste for 10 year old modified Audis is usually a ticket to the poor house (assuming the car doesn't break down on the way there). However this is not the case with Jason & team around! I first brought my (now dearly departed) 2000 A4 Avant to Pearce 3 years ago to have a wheel bearing replaced. Pearce wasn't only the cheapest quote I got over the phone from a shop that sounded like they knew what they were doing, but -- and this is huge -- they were the only shop to qualify their estimate by telling me that the hub may or may not need to be replaced, and if it doesn't, it'll be a lot cheaper than the quote. The hub didn't need to be replaced, and I saved a bunch of money. They also respect the enthusiast and the shade-tree mechanic. I've been to a number of other shops where I'd get derision for bringing them a problem I'd attempted to fix myself first -- or telling them to not fix something that I can fix myself. I've never gotten this kind of attitude here, and in fact have gotten some helpful pointers. They've also never balked at installing parts I bring in myself -- a fancy clutch, brake calipers, or a timing belt kit -- with the usual caveat of not warrantying the part itself, of course. One more incident stands out in my mind as an example of their exemplary business ethics. A few months ago I brought my car in for a wheel bearing replacement (hey, it's a common problem). When I picked it up, I noticed that 9 miles have been put on it since I dropped it off. Now, the car in question is a heavily modified 430hp rocket that just screams "take me for a joy ride". When I called Jason to ask about those 9 miles, I got the usual "blah blah, we need to test drive the car", and I thought I was being blown off as per usual mechanic behavior. But a day later I got an email from Jason, saying that he clocked the usual route and it's 4 miles, and he knows the mechanic did it twice - before and after the job. The fact that there was follow-up on something that most would dismiss as an overly-anal customer being annoying has cemented the 5 star review. TL;DR: Excellent customer service. Reasonable prices. Qualified mechanics. Great shop. Take your car here. read more

I was given a 2 hour window and they completed the oil change + new spark plugs + inspection in 1 hour and 18 minutes. I am so glad to have found Pearce Autotech after browsing through yelp for a shop that specializes in Audi. These guys are honest, knowledgeable, efficient and provided great customer service. I first went to Royal Motors because I needed my key fob re-programmed for my 2001 TT. They offered me a complimentary checkup and stated that my front strut mount bushings were worn and needed to be replaced. The quote over the phone was $270 each side, which would equal $540 to change just the rubber bushings. I had a pre-purchase inspection done just 5 months ago and also had an oil change 4 months ago and the other shops both said the car was in great condition. I was skeptical about the dealer's recommendation and decided to get a 2nd opinion. I called Pearce, brought the car in this morning and got a call about an hour later. Just as I suspected, my car was fine, they did not see a need to do any work on it except replace the broken dipstick. They found that my oil level was low and even topped it off for FREE!!! I was soooo happy and relieved because the biggest worry when I purchased the car was that it was going to become a money pit! Thanks Jason!!! So, my check engine light went on and the bottom on my car starting rattling and announcing my arrival anywhere I went. Not cute. I came to Pearce based on a recommendation from Advanced Audi & VW, because they couldn't take me soon enough. I didn't know what to expect, but fixing my car here turned out the best repair experience I had with my 1998 VW golf. I have had good luck with some repair shops before (including Advanced), however, this shop was ideal because: -It was small and not intimidating -Jason who runs the shop is super nice, professional, efficient on getting the estimate and major repairs done in two days. -Jason offered cheaper alternative repair options instead of telling me to replace a bunch of parts. He also glued my door trim on as a bonus. -After taking my car to two shops, Pearce's (third) estimate was by far the best. - I never felt like I was being sheistered around, even though I know very little about car repair. The staff here is friendly, the shop is very clean, the mechanics seem competent, and the work was done on schedule. Also, the car usually came back washed, which is a nice touch. Finally, the location is very convenient--one block from Caltrain, and a 15-minute walk to downtown. They are expensive. They are straightforward on their estimates, their work is good, and I don't have any doubts as to their integrity, but they do charge a lot. Really, my only suggestion to them would be to volunteer more information on the work they are recommending and why. The ability for a mechanic to explain in layman's terms what they are doing and why goes a long way toward building confidence and trust. Had they been more proactive in this regard, my review would have 5 stars instead of 4. read more

What can I say about a Mini repair place that quotes fair, reasonable, honest and polite prices and next day service except 'Woohoo!' Jason and Johannes were really interested in keeping my costs low, telling me about what needed to be done now and what we could keep an eye on, offering me a ride home or to work, and the shop is absolutely immaculate! Great place to take your car. Brought your SAAB in for regular service. The basics: Scheduling an appointment was easy. Jason and staff were friendly and skilled. Cost was very good. The car runs great. Why I'm going to use them again: The shop closes at 6pm. I called at 5:45 to say that I was on my way. It was raining, sun was in my eyes, it was uphill, etc. I didn't get there until 6:15pm. Jason was waiting and didn't even give me an attitude or hard time. My main reason for going in was getting my driver's side window motor fixed ($290) and for the 85K service in my 2002 Mini. My car was already at 94K and Jason spent a good while (both on the phone and in person) helping me weigh my options between getting the 85K vs 100K service - ended up opting for the 100K service ($495). The prices are very reasonable - I called several places after I got the quote for the window and their prices were either equal to or less than other good places (aka good reviews) in the city and in the Peninsula. Their labor rate is $120/hr. They also went the extra mile - they fixed a loose piece of plastic paneling on the passenger side of my car that was causing some very annoying wind noise. They also noticed that my airbag light was on (I'd been ignoring it for months) and told me that it was actually an issue that is still under warranty (so I can go get it fixed at the dealer for free). Boo for not being open on weekends, but only 2 blocks from Caltrain in case dropping off the car means you need to take the train. read more

I brought my son's Mini Cooper close to the two shops close to our place and one diagnosed it and told us to bring it to the dealership in Mini SF which closed last May. I checked online and saw this shop which especialize in European cars especially Mini. True enough when I showed Jason the diagnostics from previous shop showing transmission chain problem,he just asked the year of the car and if it is Mini S or not and already know it is not the chain. I got the car the the next day body washed and ready to go. They even top off the windshield washer fluid. Honest to a tee (showed me parts - timing chain and tensioner - that were repaired/replaced and why), straightforward and very personable. He reduced an early quote/estimate considerably when he found that a part he thought might need replacing was in good shape after all. I never would have known and would have been willing to pay the original quote...that is just how honest he is. Incredible in this day and age for an auto repair business. I could go on; but let me just end by saying that I would have had to pay over 3 times the amount Pearce charged me at the Mini dealership. I have been taken cars to repair shops/dealers for over 20 years. It's not every day that you find someone that provides great customer service. Pearce totally exceeded my expectations. I took my 2014 Mini for an oil change and service. First, Angelina was super helpful at check in, and when I was ready to leave, she asked if I was taking an Uber or Lyft, and to my surprise, she called one from her app. Wow, that's customer service! She called me a few hours later to let me know the car was done. And then, when I picked it up, it was washed! Totally unexpected. I'll be taking my Mini back for anything that it needs. I found Pearce Autotech on Yelp. Like many others, I rely on yelp for good, accurate reviews of places to go and try. Royal Motors found that I had a leaking valve cover and camshaft tensioner gasket and two torn CV boots. The people at Royal motors are nice, their service is OK. But I don't quite trust them since they scratched up my car door once when I took it in for a recall repair and they quoted over $1,600 to get it fixed. Ouch I was off for a few days and finally decided to get my VW Passat fixed. I did my research and got quotes from a couple of places that people recommended and then I searched yelp which helped me find a few more places to ask for quotes. In the end, the places people recommended didn't get as good ratings on yelp. I am very happy to have settled with Jason at Pearce Autotech which came with very good reviews. I agree he is very knowledgeable about cars, prices are competitive (he matched a price from another place), and was very patient to explain the problem. He quoted me $880 and ended up coming under his quote (which never seems to happen at the dealership) and he ordered a pair of windshield wipers for me free of charge since mine were falling apart as he said. So thank you to all you yelpers who helped me find this little shop. I think Jason has a new loyal customer and I will definitely recommend people to go get their car fixed or serviced here. read more

Honesty is so hard to find in automotive repair shops. When these guys had a small snafu with a fix, they gave me an oil change for free. When I brought in my car and they found out that the problem was subject to an extended warranty through the dealer, they told me about it and didn't charge me anything. Really! I am not even joking. They performed quality repairs on my beloved Passat, top off on fluids I was low on, and even gave me a car wash, the latter two FOR FREE! But what impressed me the most was how hard and long they worked to save my oil pan that had gotten damaged. Even after spending time sanding it down, they ran my engine for three hours just to ensure the oil wasn't leaking anymore. My sister and I share a VW Cabrio that has been having a bunch of different issues for years. My dad always insisted on taking it to the local mechanic who would charge a lot of money and the issue would return in a day or two. I came across Pearch Autotech on yelp and thought it was worth checking out considering the high rating. Pearce Autotech did not disappoint! Not only did they fix the issues (the check engine light that has been on forever and a broken airbag), it was fixed for substantially less than the local mechanic estimate. He also changed the spark plugs and washed the car without charging more... and might I add that the car was in dire need of a wash. There is no one more knowledgeable about VWs and more helpful, honest and interested in fixing the car. Like these guys need another 5-star review... but here goes: I've taken my A4 into Pearce twice, and both times I've been knocked over by the service. First time: headlight switch failure, Pearce was recommended to me by my usual shop (usual shop couldn't see me soon enough.) Long story short -- repaired perfectly, quickly, and cost-effectively. They washed the car, even though it was definitely going to rain later in the day. Second time, about a month later. My windshield wipers stop working. I figure it's something to do with the switch they replaced, took it in. Jason spent hours disassembling things to identify the problem. Turns out it was a faulty drain put in by my usual shop that flooded the wiper motor. Usual shop agrees to warranty the work, so Pearce just puts it all back together, and refuses to let me pay them a cent. Oh, and he washed the car. Again. Class acts, these guys. I've told anyone and everyone I know with an Audi, VW, Mini, Saab, or Volvo to check them out. read more

As a newcomer to the neighborhood, Jason Pearce has already received good reviews for his services. Reason? It is as good as it's claimed to be. I had a maintenance light come on sporadically. It bugged me so I brought it to the official Volkswagen dealership. They performed a 5 minute inspection and essentially told me they couldn't find anything wrong. This is the one and only time I have ever gone somewhere based on a flier that they left on my car. However, I'd been looking for a place to service my Jetta, and they happen to be just down the street from my office {hence the car flier}. I called around 6pm and spoke to Jason about my needs and various other problems {like a broken dipstick} and he told me I could come by the next morning and he'd check it out. Their shop is clean, easy to find, and everyone is super friendly. He refilled my oil and got me a brand new dipstick {at NO charge} and we scheduled me for my 60K servicing. His quote was WAY lower than the dealership I'd been using previously. Got my car back from the servicing and she is running better than ever. Was shopping around for quotes for front rotors and pads for my '08 VW R32. All the local dealers were quoting $530 and up. Started looking around on the R32 forums and came across some posts mentioning Pearce. Called up Pearce after reading other reviews and was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of good reviews. Got a good quote and made an appointment. I think Pearce definitely fits in in the SOMA area. It's a really small shop, definitely a boutique type place. The fact that they only service certain brands shows that they want to focus on quality of work on a few types of cars they are familiar with. I spoke with Yohannes and he was professional and knowledgeable. He knew enough about my model Volkswagen that they are numbered in a series (1/5000) as it is a limited edition car. He mentioned that he noticed mine is 180 of 5000. It's details like that that let me know these guys are serious about their work and that it is passion for them. I found Pearce Autotech about 3 years ago after my last mechanic tried to upsell me on a new transmission that was 8k miles less than what my current transmission had on it.... Looking for a second opinion (and hoping not to spend a boatload of cash on a new transmission) I found Jason + Pearce Auto. After keeping my car for the day to figure out what the F was wrong with it, they found 2 leaks that were causing my car issues. They were able to fix it within the day for NOT a boatload of cash! I've been solely coming to Jason and his team since then, and believe me, I've had my share of automotive issues on my MINI - she's an old gal, and apparently '07 wasn't a great year for them. Every time I come in, the team is friendly, helpful, and extremely efficient. I even called them recently and requested a recommendation for a place that could replace my tires, without breaking something (Big-O on S. Van Ness broke the silver trim between my bonnet and grill off 2 years ago and I'm still angry about it!!!) and they happily referred me to a great tire place. I used to take my car to Jason when he was in Santa Cruz, many years ago. I've never found anyone more honest when it comes to auto repairs. Presently I live about 2 hours away from Jason's shop but when I couldn't find anyone near me that I could get a straight answer from I decided it was worth the trip. I came to Pearce Auto after bringing my Mini to 2 well known mechanics who I've always used for over 15 years who couldn't figure out the problem goin on with my Mini Cooper...So my last resort was to take it to the SF Mini dealership but after finding out they have been closed down now for over a year Jason the owner of Autotech became my 4th & final attempt to figure out this frustrating problem with my Cooper...They took their time with my car, even me not being there when I dropped it off with a tow truck to finally figure out the exact problem & by god they fixed it! A rare problem with my fuse control box which rarely goes bad had went bad...it basically sent false readings to what was wrong with my car which made very hard to diagnose with other mechanics! But somehow Pearce Auto figure it out!!! Price was very reasonable after spending almost 600 dollars toying with my other mechanics! To make a long story short...if you have a problem with your Mini at all bring it straight to this place instead of messing around with outside mechanics...I also think they do a better job diagnosing & fixing issues than the dealership which i was goin to for years...these guys really seem like they know what they are doing with this particular brand Mini Cooper! Great place to go for mini. I came in since the car indicator for low tire pressure was on. Andrew helped me and I was done within 30 minutes. He even mention a place on harrison and 16th for tires if I needed them. But I just got a patch on the tire and it was good as new. I also asked a bunch of question and he was very patient with me and answered all my questions. If I went to the mini dealer, they probably would have had me buy a new tire. I picked this joint because of 100% positive reviews from all types of people. This is my first ever Yelp review. Pearce made me finally decide to review a place. If you own a European car you owe it to her to come service it here. Incredibly honest people. I had to change a lot of things on my A4 and they were great in explaining why, what and what piece did what as well as telling me not to change some other parts that could wait.
