Feeling creative... One thing that I do love about Pearl's is that you're able to add your own choice of sides and that's exactly came to mind as I approached the restaurant in Kapolei Shopping Center with lots of parking just steps from the door it was very easy decision. Keeping it classic it was the Kalbi & BBQ Chicken Plate and since I didn't want rice I was able to choose five different sides which was easier said than done as they have quite the selection but I was hungry...daikon kimchi, cucumber kimchi, japchae, mayo potatoes and hobak jeon which is pan fried zucchini. The restaurant is nice and clean with lots of seating is very nice and as my order is ready I was ready for how heavy it was as it took to hands to carry this feast and what a feast it as the portions are very generous my japchae was under the meat as the smaller cups was filled with the other four sides, it also comes with two fried mandoo as it took me several attempts to tackle this plate but still ended up with lots of leftovers lol! My team and I ordered lunch from Pearl's Kapolei. We ordered the Meat Jun and BBQ Chicken and Meat Jun plates. Pearl's has to have one of the Best Meat Juns on Oahu. Whether it be Beef of Fish. Always freshly made and delicious. We especially like that we can pick our own sides per plate. Portions are generous and delicious. Their Chap Chae and Cucumber Kimchi are awesome. I love coming to this place in Kapolei, good portions, good food, and comes out quick. Never had any problems before. I don't normally come during the lunch hour but I come in the evening, I usually am ordering just for myself so my food takes about 10min or so not too long, very reasonable. I love the side choices they have available, always taste fresh and they give a good portion. Main dish is always good portion as well, very yummy. Lots of seating inside and very clean. There's a few new Korean bbq places in Kapolei now And we've tried them but I always comeback to Pearl Bbq by Safeway. 1. The food options and portions. My father is elderly and is accustomed to having his veggies. So Korean bbq is always so awesome because of the banchan. My pops also likes Pearl's japchae so whenever I order a regular plate, one of them is all noodles as the side, along with seaweed and Choy sum. And because my father is elderly, I have to order softer foods for him which is the fish and meat jun fulfills that requirement. 2. Friendly and fast service. Always consistent in this area. 3. Convenient parking. Lots of available parking even during peak hours. And proximity to my home is also a plus. 4. No ambience whatsoever. And that's fine by name. I'm usually taking out and so I just need a clean and tasty place to order from. 5. Oh! The catering options are also really awesome. If I've been invited to an impromptu potluck or we have a surprise visitor, there's no hassle with Pearl. I can call 30-mins ahead of time for a medium platter of protein and a medium pan of banchan with four options. Love the convenience and the price too. 5-stars for Pearl Bbq for convenience alone. read more

Food was very bland, meat jun not cut, chicken was burnt...really burnt. Thick carbon. Ambiance is horrible...a deranged person was pacing around and muttering and shouting obscenities and the staff did nothing. They should have called the police or mall security at least. When we began eating, we were so unpleasantly surprised because other Pearls locations are really good. I can't share a picture of the burnt chicken because it went out with the trash. Ambiance is like any other dine in place on the island really. locations do vary tho! I found that the kapolei one is slightly better than the one in ewa. (More selection on kimchis) fresher vegetables basically. I would ask for a separate plate for the kimchis. Otherwise it's loaded all over the place! For all...my veggies were fresh no issues at all. When you're craving for local Korean food and you're in the Kapolei area, I highly recommend this Pearls and this one particular. For a $20 mix plate, not only do they pack you plate with food the taste is pretty on point everytime I go. The portion size is ridiculous and the banchan sides are hefty, I love when you pick up a plate and go "damn, that's a heavy plate". I usually opt for the meat jun/spicy chicken plate, with 2-3 large pieces of meat jun and just as much spicy chicken in a nice, not too overwhelming gochujang sauce, it's a little on the sweet side but not enough for me to complain. This is actually the only location that you can also get zucchini jun as a banchan side and it's delicious. A small shop right next to Safeway Kapolei, the food usually comes out within 10-15 min or if you order online it's usually ready by the time I get there. Ever since yummys closed down in PC this is where I go for the next best thing and bang for your buck, imo. read more

Okay we've never had problems with the one in Waipahu and we've ordered at the Kapolei location a few times but tonight was just not it. Ordered the meat jun to go. Got home and started eating and looked at the meat jun...the meat was cooked but the flour or breading was not cooked! All of them weren't cooked and we lost our appetite. They also raised their prices so for $20 a plate I expected better. Don't think we'll be ordering this ever again. read more

Located next to Safeway, I've been coming here since it opened under a different name. The food is all the same, & owners/management always changes. Not as good here as other locations. BBQ chicken was so dry and overdone it resembled jerky. It was so tough to chew that I gave up trying. Mac salad was suspiciously served room temperature and tasted like they didn't even try to make it taste good. Just dumped plain mayo on macaroni and called it a day. Go somewhere else! read more

I used to come to pearls Korean bbq at kapolei all the time and the food satisfied my cravings. They always give a big portion of food that overflowed my take out container which is great! We'd always have left overs. Lately I've been noticing each time I make a take out order, my food smelt and tasted sour. My boyfriend would just tell me it because of the Kim chee side I always select. So I brush it off and think nothing of it and force myself to eat my food because I didn't want to waste a whole plate lunch. Especially with the cost of food now a days... My most recent visit, I ordered to go, the moment I got home and opened my plate lunch I already smelt the sourness. I was hoping not to be disappointed and took a bite out of the beans sprouts. It was so sour! It tastes spoiled and slimy. There was absolutely no crunch. You can tell it's been soaking for a long time and just didn't taste right. Idk if it was because of the bean sprout juices that were soaking into the rice and meat that made the bbq chicken and rice sour but ughh On top of that the bbq chicken was dry and hard. And I once again lost my appetite and would not force myself to eat any more of it. I tried to separate the meat from the plate and grab new rice from my own rice cooker to attempt to eat the bbq chicken and meat jhun I had ordered. It didn't help at all. The meat was sour also. I'm over making excuses. I strongly believe that they are servicing spoiled food. I've eaten pickled vegetables before and this is nothing like being pickled. It tasted spoiled. Idk maybe it's just me maybe not. But ive come to a final conclusion that I won't be ordering from here anymore. I've had more than enough experiences from here to finally stop eating their food. Never go here! Food ordered Combo Meat Jun Fish Jun. It was odd that I got my order was quickly and when i felt the top of the plate wasnt hot nor i didnt smell. When I got home (5min away) open the plate and it was oily and most likely cooked in warm oil. Probably the cook was lazy. Everything was bad. I threw it away why risk getting sick! The vegetables were very generous (subbed out white rice for extra veg) and all were tasty. Ordered two identical plates by phone was told to pick up in ten minutes when I arrived only one was ready sitting on the counter. I asked why is only one ready? "Still cooking" . Fifteen minutes later the other one came out looks like the first one was cooked hours ago. Flies are all over banchan in the front also . Workers don't seem to care. read more

Didn't get to take a photo this time around. We ordered two plates. First plate was a "special" and the second plate was a bbq chicken mixed plate. The portions were very generous to say the least. The special however was overly stuffed with Teri beef which made the plate hard to close but at the amount of $23 a pop I'd expect at least two chickens versus one. MEATS: For both plates it was basically the same suggestion of more salt/flavor for the chicken, Teri beef and Kalbi. The meats were also on the dry side which I would've expected to have more of a marinade tender texture to the meat and the prices you're paying. Overall for meats it was a hard NO from us. SIDES: We varied on our side choices. The tofu was alright because I mean it's Tofu you shouldn't expect much with that one but I'm a Tofu person so I knew how it was going to go. The Kimchi Cucumber was... Not spicy and definitely not something I would recommend anyone getting unless you like bland with a crunch. The seaweed was on the dry side right along the meat which was very surprising to me since I didn't think it was that possible to have them dry up that bad in a bed of moisture. The mayonnaise potatoes were okay, I just wish it had a tad bit more to it and not just drowned in mayonnaise. The sweet noodles was the actual best out of all the sides we had. OVERALL: We won't be returning. Although the portions were deserving of 3 or maybe even 4 stars the flavors just made the whole experience a two star at the most. If you decide to eat here still? I purchasers a garlic chicken plate with kimchee, tofu,cabbage. The plate didn't feel hot nor did the chicken hot in temp. One taste of the kimchee and it was slimy like natto. I called pearl Korean and it did not phase them all she said was it's new, so I told her you might want to taste it because I might not get sick but someone else might get sick. Idky they don't have 5 stars! I've been coming here for the past 3 years. This is the BEST place for side's always fresh never have any complaints. I always get meat Jun & bbq chicken. The plates are so big and packed you will have left overs for later! Always call in your order they may be busy. I suggest waiting to pick your sides when u get there and if u don't like rice they will give you another side instead! When your able to I'd transfer left overs to another container at home. They will not hold for more than an hour since we can't have foam plates anymore. I always come back and still recommend. My only suggestion would be for them to update their Boba drinks. read more

But when you start serving soup in a cardboard tub, you may as well serve it in a cardboard box!
