    Scallop appetizer
    Carmen N.

Mixed experience. The food overall was good -- the entrees were well prepared and flavorful. However, the scallop appetizer was a disappointment. It had a slight ammonia smell, which is never a good sign with seafood and something you'd expect a restaurant of this caliber to catch before it reaches the table. The bigger issue was the pacing of the meal. We waited an unusually long time for our appetizers to arrive, and then faced another long wait before our entrees came out. The timing made experience feel drawn out and frustrating. To be fair, our server Debbie was working the entire floor solo and was doing her absolute best under the circumstances. She was attentive and kind -- this was clearly a staffing issue, not a service attitude issue. With proper kitchen-to-table pacing and adequate staffing, this could easily be a 5-star experience. We came with high expectations based on the restaurant's reputation and those hard-to-get reservations. The potential is clearly there -- we just hope management addresses the staffing and quality control issues so future guests get the full experience this place is capable of delivering.

"Sit down for a tasty meal or order your food to go" is the line that greets you on their website. "We don't do takeout" is what the staff will tell you when you walk in and ask to order takeout. I showed the woman the resturant website, thinking I had walked into the wrong place "Yes, that's us!", okay cool I love to be lied to my face :)

We discovered Dinner on our last night in Bar Harbor and had a truly outstanding meal. Made us wish that we had discovered them (or their sister restaurant 'Lunch') sooner. We ordered the Curry Baked Haddock, the White Bean and Coconut, and the carrot cake for dessert. Every dish was truly incredible. As others have said, we've eaten at a lot of great restaurants in our lives and this meal stands out. Our server, Debbie, was also terrific. FYI, they are open year round!! :)

Came here for a dinner with my husband. We made a reservation in advance, it's a small place and was full. They had almost no spots available. So if you want to go there, definitely will need a reservation. We had a salad to share, scallops, mushroom crostini, and chicken for main. All food was fresh and tasty. We also had some wine. They have a decent wine selection. Overall place is very nice and inviting. Service was friendly. Definitely a nice dinner place to visit.

We went here during the tourism offseason and we were just so happy to find something open after an 8 hour drive to Bar Harbor. And wow did this place amaze us. Our food was absolutely delectable and the cozy vibes made everything even better.

The food was rich, flavorful, and original. Service was amazing at the bar with Patrick!! He's such a kind fellow!! It's a dark romantic place!! We were very lucky to walk in and squeeze in at the bar! Get the French onion soup, mushroom crostini , and shrimp in a sauce!!! Yummy!!

Everything was awesome. Very reasonably priced for how great the food was. French onion was delish and was the dinner entrees we got I thought the bean dip was good. service was great you could tell she was working hard she was super funny and honest. My husbands drink was just ok and bar seemed a little slow. we were full so did not have dessert but they looked very good.

    French soup very good

Service was very long and food was ok. The steak was under seasoned. Our appetizer which was the ahi tuna was over done.

We showed up on a Saturday at 5 o'clock end of August and got right in at Annex which is the same menu and attached. Waiters were helpful and kind, amazing people! Live music was going on at 7 but we left right before, awesome vibes doors to the outside open so it was basically an open air concept since it was a beautiful day. Clam chowder: super delicious and passed the spoon test! (I like my chowders thick so a spoon should float on top) Bangin Shrimp: seasoning and sauce were bangin! Great stuff and the buttery grilled flamed pita added a beautiful touch Cadillac fries: crispy fries with melty cheese, hot sauce, bbq sauce, chipotle mayo and toooed with bacon. We inhaled these. Mac + rac: fall off the bone rips and the Mac was killer. Mixed in with street corn added a great change up and all went so well together. Larger shells cooked perfectly and super cheesy, this was a great dish. Highly recommend, wish I could have tried the Blueberry Pie because that looks insane, was way too full after crushing the other dishes and washed down with a blueberry beer and an extra dirty martini!

However, we weren't too tired to eat it, so we had the food delivered from Side Street Cafe. So glad we did it that way cuz it was terrific... and easy to arrange ! My hubby ordered their Cubano sandwich while I ordered a cheeseburger. He loved his Cubano, which came with a side of mac 'n cheese. The mac 'n cheese was light in flavor, I think because of the kind of cheese used. I prefer more flavor, but it wasn't bad either. My( burger was quite large, and it was really tasty... very nicely seasoned beef patty, and it had all the things I like... cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle.... and catsup. I was very happy. It came with fries, but I had my fill of fries with all the lobster rolls I had ordered along the way, so I didn't eat them. Plus, there was a slice of blueberry pie calling out to me, so I wanted to blow my calories with the pie... and so glad I did cuz it was another spectacular piece of blueberry pie. Against my will, I split it with my hubby. Lol. It was a great way to end our meal. (Turns out we never got dinner that night cuz we were so full from such a nice lunch.) Side Street Cafe is definitely going on my radar if we're ever fortunate enough to return to Bar Harbor.

We ordered several dishes and were thoroughly impressed. We started with the tostada, which featured wonderfully smoky brisket with a richness reminiscent of pork belly. Our summer salad with whipped feta was also delicious. The "Gambas" shrimp appetizer was probably our favorite of the night, full of layered buttery, spicy flavors reminiscent of an Indian curry. We also loved the mussels appetizer, served in a briny broth simmered with smoked pork and chorizo. The seasoning and flavor profiles of every dish were surprising and exceeded our expectations. We all agreed that Havana is a must try for all foodies!

They were so responsive when we requested a new table because a large party next to us was very loud and we wanted a quieter meal. We enjoyed the Maine oysters a lot. They were nice size and the accompanying sauces were great. The paella was the star of the show though. The scallops were so moist and tender and there was just the right spice level to the rice. There was plenty of shrimp, mussels, lobster chunks, chicken, and sausage. We really enjoyed our meal.

Needless to say, we found ourselves at the Chart Room on more than one occasion. Happy hour on the pier is a must do. The view coupled with half price drinks and apps can't be beat. We always meet great people who are visiting just like us. One evening we had dinner there as well. My wife had the Baked Stuffed Haddock, and I had the Chicken Broccoli Alfredo. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. Large portions, excellent presentation and at a price I expect to pay at a five-star restaurant on the coast of Maine. What I feel is the highlight of our experience at the Chart Room was the staff. Everything started with James the General Manager and Jamie, the Booking Manager. We appreciate all their help before we even arrived there. There were several members of the wait staff that were amazing as well. Some that we've seen each season when we visit.
