Although I try my best to avoid "Chain Establishments" when it comes to food, sometimes it's all there is around and the least I can say is that in "plastic" Belmont, Peet's is as good as it gets when cruising the farmer's market. The Latte "Cuban Style" I had was not good at all. The foam was one of a Cappuccino and the over all taste was mediocre. Now the reason I am giving it 3 Stars is for the service. They are great. They combine courtesy, efficiency and an overall sense that no matter how crowded the place gets, ( and it gets packed) they can handle it. I give them props for there professionalism. read more

while everyone is standing in line at the nearby Starbucks, you might want to come here for a more superior coffee. it seems like they take their coffee pretty seriously, but they're also polite and friendly enough to answer any questions you might have. while i was waiting for the dude to grind up my coffee beans, he offered a cup of the regular blend--on the house. pretty cool in my book, if you ask me. this place can be dangerous for the caffeine/coffee addict. even more so than Starbucks. read more

I was in Peets today for my weekly pound of Italian , whole bean, which I order just like that, just to see if they are listening, 9 times out of ten I get , " Do you want whole bean or ground?" whatever, but today I order, I pay for it , I go over to the front counter, where the coffee is bagged up. And I wait while the guy that took my order, waits on the next guy in line, (he's getting a drink from store) then a woman who works there comes out of the back room carrying some stuff that looks like it was just cleaned, nice, and I hear the guy that took my order tell her, hey get that guy out front, a lb of Italian, whole bean. She totally ignores him. and takes care of the ,NEXT, person in line for drinks. Finally the original guy comes to me and starts to get my coffee. I asked him, "Why do I need to wait ,when I was here first?" He says "Oh I thought it would be faster this way", I said ,yes , for the people that came in AFTER me! This seems to be the norm for this store, drinks are #1 priority, bagged coffee secondary, even though one might be spending more money, the drinks generate more. new peet's lover(fomerly starbucks lover)...i've recently converted. starbucks is just not cuttin it for me anymore. what won me over? peeberry! their steamed soy tastes better they have a better selection of pastries, including more for those that are health conscious their coffee is made w/TLC but i agree...they can use more seating. i go here on saturdays and its packed! i also wish they would open at 5:30am... but i wouldnt give it 4 stars b/c i need to give those small coffee shops a chance. read more

This Peet's has really nice baristas and a few friendly regulars. It's usually not too busy but even during "rush" times the people working usually get drinks turned out pretty quickly. For people unfamiliar with the menu, the cashier (etc) will help out customers decide what they might like, without rushing them but also without keeping anyone else waiting. The wifi is good/ consistent and there are always seats near outlets for those who come to work. There are also two tables out back that get a fair amount of sun. read more

Not enough seating. Odd layout for a coffee shop with tiny tables that can't fit anything. Almost no outlets, and those that exist are placed terribly. I had to plug my laptop into an outlet across the way, which would have been fine except that I was rudely asked to unplug by an employee and had to leave because of it. I don't know why the outlets even exist if customers can't use them. All in all I felt very disappointed that this Pete's did not create a welcoming space for customers who aren't grabbing coffee and dashing. read more

I love this Peets! Every time I go in, one of the employees says hello or offers some kind of greeting. I've been going here for a while now and I love it that they know my drink. Kevin does a great job with the drinks. Natalie is so sweet and smiley. Rachel is always smiling too! It seems like the people who work there have fun with each other. Pretentious, slow service and inattentive. Our trainee, "Skippy" for lack of a better name, had to ask how to make an espresso. My double shot ended up in the trash for its acrid, bitter taste. Ruined my romantic dessert plans for a Friday eve. Also, didn't mention that they serve the tea at a different counter than the coffee while we were sitting there for five minutes in front of the guy while it got cold on the counter across the room. Poor training, lack of supervision, and bad quality coffee make the Starbucks a few doors away my choice for fast-food coffee with low quality and corporate (lack of) ethics. lol read more

I usually go to San Carlos Peets which is great! But since wine and art festival was going on, I went to Belmont. The line was long and slow. I wouldn't say much for the barista either. She seemed liked she didn't want to be there. Thought about getting a bakery item, but it was slim pickings! After getting my coffee, I went over to the creamer/sugar station. This was DISGUSTING. On top of the counter was spilled coffee, sugar and trash. The trash container was overflowing and there a puddle of coffee on the floor leaking from the garbage. You could tell that it hadn't been cleaned for some time. Both sugar container were low too. I will stick to the San Carlos Peets and NEVER return to this one. read more

Sadly they've gone downhill in a big way - -and no one cares (except Jen who is awesome) They dont serve the coffee from a brewer. It sits in a carafe and is pumped out... except the pump has been broken for over a month. They have to open the carafe and pour into a jar- then into your cup. Unless you want room for cream (I like it black) you are given a 3/4 full cup , and its lukewarm - because the staff dosent keep the brewers full.. Here's the coupe d' gras .. this morning a human hair was on drink spout of the lid.. I handed it back and he replaces the lid .. not a new cup - a new lid. I get my morning coffee from the Belmont Peet's location maybe 4 times a week. Service is always spot on, the facility is clean, and the staff is professional and friendly without being overly casual like many other coffee shops. The restrooms in particular are always spotless. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because every now and then the espresso drinks aren't quite right, and the lattes I get can be funky and taste unpleasant. It's a rare occurrence (10% of the time or less) but takes away from the experience when I'm paying $3.50 for it. read more

Had a horrible interaction with a staff person who was upset( clearly) that we bought 2 cups of tea and a cookie 45 min before closing. She was irritated having to unwrap the cookies displayed in the front case then proceeds to drop the cookie on the floor... Sarcastically stating "oops dropped it " then saying they had no more. I happened to be in the area yesterday at about 5 pm so I stopped in for a cup of tea. There were 2-3 guys working and they were super friendly and very knowledgeable, describing all the teas to me so I could select one. This 5 star rating is for them. I regularly buy Peet's Garuda Blend coffee and have it ground for my espresso machine. I got a batch recently that was ground correctly but wasn't working out. The shots pulled too quickly. I took it back and talked to the manager, Randy. He tested the grind and it seemed correct; it wasn't too coarse as I had suspected. He suggested I try a different grind setting and badda bing, problem solved. I'm sipping a delicious cup of coffee. Bottom line: very helpful and knowledgeable. read more

Yes, the coffee is better than Starbucks.... (sorry starbucks) but unfortunately for Peets coffee on El Camino Real in Belmont CA, customer service is key for repeat business, and all it took was one guy to ruin this customer's repeat business!!! Two visits in a row the same barista was extremely rude, in fact I would describe him as freakishly sadistic! Here's my story and why I say this, after a decision my husband and I made to give our strong coffee business to Peet's Coffee because of their non-support of Israel, I visited this particular Peet's by myself for a quick mocha, the cashier was friendly and attentive after I managed to get his attention to place my order. Then it came time to pick up my coffee and the barista just swept my mocha across the counter as if I had somehow deeply troubled him and he needed to show his intense disdain for my presence at "his" counter! (what a creep) Nonetheless I brushed his treatment off as late evening tiredness. The second visit was today with my husband, whom is the absolute salt of the earth! and treats everyone with respect and kindness especially those in the food service industry because he himself has had this type of job. So again I find myself at this same counter with the same barista but expecting a fresh attitude since it was only afternoon but no... he places a cup of coffee on the counter directly in front of my husband who reaches for the cup and asks " this is mine?" and this barista replies sarcastically "is your name Larry?" my husband say's "no" then this sadistic guy proceeds with a gleam in his eye to scold my husband in plain sight of all customers and employees to witness " then when your coffee is done I will call your name" I was so insulted and my husband being the gentleman that he is simply rose above the rude man's words but I was livid and embarrassed by this "JERK" and felt like throwing my "Freddo" directly in his face! What do these kind of people eat for breakfast that makes them so nasty and in his case nasty but clearly enjoying it??????? Final thoughts... I've been getting drip coffee and sometimes pastries at this Peet's for years. For the most part, the staff has been really helpful and friendly. There is a newer staff person who obviously hates being there though. The first time I interacted with her, I thought maybe she was just having a bad day. But it has been a few weeks, and she is still consistently rude. I have never seen her smile at anyone, and on my last visit, I noticed that she rolled her eyes and signed loudly while taking my (simple) order. I'm not about taking other people's behavior personally, but as a longtime customer service business manager myself, I understand that anyone with such a negative attitude is simply not good for business. I noticed the morale of the rest of the team seems to be negatively affected also. Sadly, I will avoid coming here now because I've come away with a distinctly unpleasant experience every time for the last few weeks only because of this newer staff member (The rest of the team has been consistently good). But Peet's, I still prefer your coffee to other chains that shall remain nameless! :) read more

The staff is friendly and the coffee is GREAT! The downside is that it's not clean. At all. The restroom is filthy; like what you'd expect from a gas station. Dusty shelves where products are displayed. Same crumbs (about a quarter of a scones' worth) on a windowsill for a week. Not good for a restaurant. Makes me wonder how clean things are elsewhere . I love this Peet's. People have complained about the servers not being friendly, but that hasn't been my experience. I've been friendly to them and have gotten warm responses in return. Someone below complained about Dino. He's my favorite person there. He's the only one whose name I've learned. I prefer people who are not fakely jolly.
