I can't believe I had never been to this coffee shop in Redwood City. I work in broadway and I happened to stop by here on my break. I got the golden hour latter (I believe) and it was soooo yummy. This is a great place to study or to chat. There were a lot of people outside either doing work or talking. You're also able to bring your dog since it's outdoor. They do have the option to go inside the yellow house for indoor seating but I personally enjoyed the outdoor seating. Love the ambience of this place! I love that there are so many little nooks in the house and in the outside space and patio. Also I find it so charming to have a piano to play on when I'm feeling particularly relaxed. The baristas have always been friendly and there is strong WiFi, as well as many board games to play. The Yard was one of the few spots for coffee open late in the area, and me and my girlfriend needed a little pick-me-up. It was a perfect quiet spot to stop for a drink. The outdoor space is beautiful, the staff were quite friendly, and their signature drink was just what we needed. The Yard Coffee feels like an up & coming community space enjoyed by techies and local families alike. I came here because my favorite local bakery (Onki) sometimes drops pastries off here - but they definitely sell out fast. The house is the oldest house in Redwood City, and it's very well-maintained! The "yard" part of the Yard feels a little more duct-taped together - mismatched, used furniture, but still very clean. The coffee is just OK, and I wish they used reusable mugs for dine-in. The service isn't that organized or friendly unfortunately. However, it's a great place to hang out, work, and people-watch if you're already downtown. read more

I'm so glad that another coffee shop opened in Redwood City! The concept of this cafe is very unique from others since it truly feels as if you're having coffee in someone's garden. I've always wondered what was inside this yellow house with a beautiful yard and now the public can enjoy this personally! We visited on a Sunday and most of the seats outside were taken but you'll always find some sort of seating since it's a whole front/side yard! They also have limited indoor seating if you prefer a quieter setting. I got an iced mocha and it was actually better than I expected. The chocolate was just the right amount of sweet and bitter - my husband almost got one to-go! A 12 oz was $7 which is pricey but also standard in the Bay Area. read more

I visited The Yard Coffee on a Saturday morning, when it wasn't too busy. I thought the space was fully outdoors (dog-friendly), but apparently there's a whole house of indoor seating, too. I ordered my coffee at the window of the cute little yellow house. The girl taking my order was sweet, but definitely new to the job. I got their signature drink, La Azteca (iced, extra shot of espresso). I was planning on getting a pastry too, but the selection wasn't the most tempting - mostly just muffins. The ambiance on the patio was super pleasant and felt like hanging out in someone's backyard. Service wasn't the quickest, but I think there was just one lady making all the drinks. I liked the spicy kick in the La Azteca. It definitely needed that extra shot though, since it's made with half & half - super creamy. I've been looking for a spicy latte (Mexican mocha-ish) but all I've been able to find in the area has been super sweet overly chocolate. Pop by this place today after seeing a recommendation on yelp. I've been here before, but this was the first time I've tried La Azteca which is spicy latte. Loved that it was not overly sweet at all! Some might argue it could be sweeter. I do think it could be spicier... Maybe a little bit more of a ground pasilla or ancho chili and cayenne. In terms of the atmosphere, it is such a lovely spot. They have indoor seating in the old Victorian house which used to be a restaurant. As someone who grew up in Redwood City, it's nice to see the Victorian's preserved. On a lovely sunny day, the outdoor seating is very charming. I love all the trees and brick work. Only rated four stars because I was bummed at the quality of ingredient - I noticed they used almond breeze for the almond milk which is...eh. This is the distinguishing factor between me becoming a regular here versus hitting up another coffee bar that uses non-GMO and/or organic almond milk. I can appreciate the high cost of doing business, but I'm also looking for quality ingredients. read more

TLDR: First time here and open to trying again! Would update my review upon my next visit - this is just based on my experience at the time. 1. Ambiance There is outdoor furniture for you to sit and enjoy your drink + an indoor area where there's plenty of seating as well. For reference, the entire house on the right side of the property is the indoor seating area. I spotted just a few outlets, so if you're doing work I would come on a full charge just in case they are taken! The decor is what you'd find in a home - similar vibes to a Philz Coffee with wooden seats/tables + comfy looking couches. Very cozy and would love to see this place in all their seasons - a third space for sure! 2. Drink: Matcha Latte This can be difficult to get down, so I wasn't expecting a *phenomenal* matcha latte but I was pretty disappointed when I received my drink - it was pale green and only tasted like milk. This doesn't seem to happen to other people; however, I did get a stomach ache after drinking my latte. I'm open to trying this place again - just not the matcha next time. 3. Service There were two workers that I saw - one at the register and one making drinks. For context, there was only one customer, on the side, waiting for their drink as I walked up and looked at the menu. I wasn't greeted by the worker at the register and it was a bit awkward as they just looked at me while I scanned the menu. I think my first impression would have been better if they had said "Hi" or offered to help. Otherwise, when I asked whether indoor seating was, they helped me navigate that well! read more

We stopped by on a Friday evening by sheer chance and was pleasantly surprised by the absolutely jaw-dropping location in the middle of RWC. It's also pretty cool that they're open so late (10pm, Thursday- Saturday). The property is absolutely gorgeous and the location couldn't be better. Staff was friendly and courteous. Finally stopped by. Talked to the owners about this spot and apparently the house (which you can go inside and sit down and listen to music) is the oldest house in Redwood City. I love a cute little house turned into a local business. There is a nice outdoor area to enjoy the sun and a cozy indoor area with a couch and many tables. They also have games like Jenga and other boardgames and books to enjoy while you are there. They often have pop-up bakeries selling their products in the outdoor space. I got the hot caramel apple cider during the holidays which was very sweet and comforting. I had gone another time and ordered a Mexican hot chocolate which was average. They also host events often to bring community together. There is nearby paid parking at the library or on the street. read more

The courtyard is a relaxing outdoor space to sip on an espresso or tea, which is currently being served from their carriage house. Five stars for the overall experience! We came on a bright Saturday morning and the courtyard is the best oasis you could ask for. Surrounded by the oldest buildings in Redwood City, there's quaint patio seating and ample seating in this large outdoor space. It was not crowded, which made this feel like a truly hidden gem. I am sure as word gets out, it'll get busy. Fortunately, they already have plenty of space to accommodate more people. They're also moving into the larger yellow building so they'll have both indoor and outdoor seating. Overall service was super friendly: the kind of energy that's a delight to start your morning. When I said "thank you," there was no response at all...just silence. The staff working the register on Friday afternoon were more focused on having their own personal conversation. Only after they finished talking did they acknowledge me, and even then it felt forced. It was uncomfortable and dismissive, especially as a paying customer. The location itself is nice it downtown and the backyard seating area is pleasant for enjoying a coffee. Sadly, that was the only positive part of the experience. This was not the hidden gem I imagined it would be. Based on the poor service and lack of basic courtesy, I would not come back.
