    Matcha latte
    Austin Y.

Greeted by a barista with the charm of a DMV line on a Monday morning, clearly not thrilled to be serving anyone. I ordered a matcha latte with a little added sweetener... apparently their definition of "little" is "enough to launch a sugar factory." Matcha should be lightly sweet, not an undercover dessert. The ambiance? Imagine a political debate club meeting held at full volume, starring a cast of old men and women who forgot that their opinions aren't universal truths. Not exactly the relaxing coffee shop vibe I was hoping for. And the wall art? Let's just say it's giving "mystery garage sale" rather than coffeehouse aesthetic (check Yelp photos if you want to join the confusion). From bad service, to a bad drink, to a bad atmosphere--it was a triple miss. Austin Yee

Adam is the best barista in the entire bay area. His dreams are top of the line. If you don't get out them you're really missing out this is the best peach coffee, the entire Bay Area. I take my son-in-law here all the time. We have a great time, drinking coffee and walking down the Avenue Ave., Burlingame, CA.

Our drinks were great! I got an iced black tie, having coffee with the sweetened condensed milk at the bottom was so tasty, it's a combo I haven't seen in other coffee shops. My boyfriend got the iced horchata CBOL and that was great too. We split a warmed pumpkin loaf and loved it. This coffee shop gives a relaxed and productive atmosphere! Good service too :)

    There's Caffeine in chocolate, right?

Dependable Peet's cafe hereon Burlingame Avenue. Thank goodness! They didn't close this location. The store is wide open as the chairs & tables are pushed to the side as all Peet's cafes are. I needed caffeine in the form of chocolate. With a chilly breeze a hot cocoa would not be a miss. Rich and chocolatey. Throw in soy or almond or oat...no cow milk for me. The art in the cafe depicts the men & women from the countries where Peet's sources their coffee beans. Good choice! These folks are doing good work. Let's celebrate them and pay them fair coffee prices, hmmm?

Rude, lousy service. Cannot grind beans as requested. Long lines. Noisy. Coffee not fresh. Go to Millbrae!

I watched their reactions when taking the first sip, it was a lot of head nodding and thumbs upping to their friends so I felt like I had to go in and try for myself. Went in and ordered an earl gray matcha and my partner ordered a passion mango tea w boba. The matcha & the passion fruit was so good! The boba was chewy and sweet. I would definitely recommend coming and trying! I really wanted to try their strawberry matcha but I'm always so skeptical (I have trust issues w bad strawb matchas) but the earl gray was good, so maybe I'll try next visit. The interior was nice, menu was straight forward on the wall and on the check out table -- only thing is the description of the drinks weren't shown on the menus until you're on the self check out kiosk. I was curious about the sunny side up matcha thinking it was made with real egg yolk (which I thought kinda weird?) but the kiosk said that it was mango. You didn't really talk to staff at all & the drinks came out pretty fast! Would come back again.

I later found out they closed that same day due to some kind of sewage/health inspection issue, so I decided to give them another chance after they reopened, especially since friends recommended their other locations. My visits since then have definitely been better. My go-to is now the Double Matcha at 50% sweet. It has a strong matcha flavor, is creamy, and is really good when made right. I definitely won't be getting the matcha einspanner again though. The biggest issue is consistency. Not every visit tastes the same, but when it's good, it's good. The shop also sometimes has a noticeable bathroom/cleaning chemical smell, which isn't the most pleasant when you're sitting inside.

They had one table for 4 that they marked as "reserved" b it apparently it was for a party like us that couldn't fit around the tables for 2. The staff was friendly and took our orders. We all got the Breakfast Bowl! Help yourself to a mason jar to grab some water. It was cute and very refreshing! I did love it! But me being the piglet that I am wished it was more. Love the poached eggs and the mixture of quinoa with roasted veggies, feta cheese and avocado. After I ate the eggs, I spritzed the lemon on the dish and it added a vibrant pop to the meal. My friends didn't finish theirs but I finished mine! So why 4 and not 5. Just wish the bowl was a bit more substantial but it was definitely tasty!

Sama Coffee Shop in San Mateo understands that a café can be more than a place to consume coffee;…read moreit can be an exercise in atmosphere and appetite. The room is quietly elegant, its Middle Eastern influences expressed through considered décor rather than theatrical excess. There is an appealing sense of decorum here; a place designed to encourage lingering rather than turnover. The coffee is similarly assured. Turkish coffee possesses the requisite depth and bitterness, while the rose-cardamom-honey latte introduces floral sweetness and spice with admirable restraint. The pastries and sweets--particularly the baklava and kunafeh--provide a luxurious counterpoint without descending entirely into confectionery excess. At roughly $10-$20 per person, Sama occupies a sensible price point for an experience that feels considerably more considered than the average neighborhood coffee shop. Sama is, ultimately, a café with a point of view and that is increasingly rare. The service was designed to provide you with a feeling that you're like a beloved family member. Eager to answer all questions asked and make you feel like you're at home.

The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it a good place to sit for a bit and enjoy a drink and something sweet. Overall, I would say our experience was fine. The coffee and dessert were good, but nothing really stood out enough that I would make a special trip from the South Bay to San Mateo just to come here. That said, if you're already in the area and looking for a casual coffee spot with some Turkish-inspired treats and a relaxed atmosphere, it's definitely worth stopping by.
