They say they're organic but having just delivered half&half... yes, it's made by Clover but not organic... OVERALL: Kind of reminds me of the local Suju's in Fremont (where I'm from), as their local go to coffee in Salinas that's more concentrated in espresso complexity. CUBANITO: Their specialty! Only 8oz with 3 shots of espresso, turbinado sugar, and milk...can modify level of sweetness. However person for which this drink was for states it's still overly sweet. CARAMEL Macchiato: Made me sad that it wasn't authentic as milk should be first then the shots of espresso so there's two layers (that's why I secretly wanted this drink). Then a drizzle of caramel. Tastes like a caramel macchiato, nonetheless. ***overall, their coffee is good with a smooth flavor profile and no bitter undertones or after taste, equating to high quality beans*** SERVICE: They are so sweet, kind, and patient, willing to answer any and all questions. This is definitely a go to spot for me no matter what season. I love their old fashion donuts with a double cubanito. Whether you like sweet drinks or not you'll definitely find something you like. The service is pretty quick for the most part. While you wait they have beautiful art you can admire and tons of seats to chill. read more

I love getting my coffee beans from here. The service is great and pretty quick for the most part. It's never really super loud or hectic so it's a nice place to meet up with friends to talk or to study. It doesn't have huge seating space so when you see a spot get it! Any person that walks in is graded with a smile and a hello. All the employees were super sweet and had a smile on their face so they must love their job! I got the first frappe starting with Oax, which is dark chocolate and cinnamon and it was so good I chucked it down. I got Oreo one for my daughter and it was delicious. It's super cute, and their coffee was really good. I believe this is the only coffee place in town that opens past 7pm. Service was decent too, however I do wish they would open later. Attempted a latte at this establishment. Shop was clean and inviting. Staff seemed nice. They do not carry sugar free coffee syrups. Bummer. I was really looking forward to trying this place but had to leave. Maybe next time if the decide to add sugar free syrups to their menu. read more

Given the low competition in the area for locally owned coffee shops (bc people in salinas just need 10+ starbucks locations?), this place quality wise is up to par. The north side definitely could use another 1-2 spots but I'm glad to see Viva has stayed consistent and weathered the years so far. I've personally never had service issues and everyone has been friendly here! Some of the highlights: If I want something blended + coffee forward, my go to is a Classico or Oaxacan Dark with no whip If I want something blended + sweet: Oreo If I want something hot: Oaxacan Mocha is a popular here, tastes like a mix of hot chocolate and coffee with a hint of chai, kinda sweet so not for drip/black coffee lovers If I want something iced: Dulce Canela or regular Iced Vanilla latte *add a shot to any latte here if you're picky about "watered down"/too much milk Iced Mint Mojito used to be a classic here but I think they got rid of it unfortunately it's no longer on the menu In a regular oat milk fan but they use the kirkland brand here which I stray away from bc it tastes like soy imo. read more

Been here a few times to get pour overs. Coffee is not bad but by no means amazing. Honestly as good but not better than Starbucks which is fine. The food items there however below average. Not many options so I got a blueberry muffin. Easily the worst blueberry muffin I've ever had. If going there just for coffee that's fine but if you also want a bite to eat I'd go elsewhere. read more

Wanted to love this place, but the consistency for their drinks is lacking and the customer service needs a lot of work. I was so excited to try this place as it was highly recommended by my hairdresser who raved about their chai latte. Yesterday, I ordered one and loved it. So I came back again today and ordered the exact same drink. First, my order was entered incorrectly as a regular latte. No big deal as they remade it. Got my remade drink and ran out the door for an appointment. I tried drinking it but it was not the same. Barely any chai, no taste of espresso (I ordered a shot of espresso)... just watered down/too much milk, bland, and gross. I went back to ask for it to be remade, but would settle for a shot of espresso. The girl being the counter opened my cup and said I might have to buy a new drink because I drank some of it... then another one told me she does put a shot of espresso in it. At that point, I was thoroughly disgusted about having paid $8 for a premium drink only to have the baristas argue with me about their nasty coffee. I just left and threw their "drink" away. If they would've just offered to remake the drink or as a shot to make it better, I would've become a loyal customer. No wonder Starbucks has such a loyal following. They would've remade my drink and I wouldn't have had to suffer defensive baristas. Yikes read more

My first time here. There was a line outside the door; it moved quickly. I try to support small businesses whenever possible. THEY ONLY SERVE ORGANIC OPTIONS... not too pricey I ordered an Oaxacan Mocha with an extra shot of espresso at 140° I got my drink with in five minutes... It did not disappoint. Most importantly they got the temperature right yay!! Not too sweet I love the cinnamon flavoring they added. The barista's were friendly and courteous. I will definitely come back. read more

This place is Salinas coffee gem. The iced Oaxacan mocha is the best. They also have a great selection of pastries. The customer service is always good and they make the drinks quick, unless you get the pour over coffee, but it's worth the wait. It's a cute little coffee shop and they play some nice music. Coffee is tasty and the local coffee shop vibe is in full effect, the decor is pleasant and the staff makes sure the area is clean and disinfected and that's a big plus and very much appreciated in the climate were in. I give this establishment kudos for being a staple in the community, I remember this location going through multiple ownership hands prior to viva so I'm so happy they have made it through the years and especially through Covid because as we all know it has killed so many small businesses. As much as I love my SB coffee I always make sure to patronize this location to make sure I'm contributing to my local small business owners as well as we all know without small businesses the world cannot go round. While my husband and I were in Salinas today we decided to try a new coffee shop since we are out of town. We found Viva Espresso Organic on Yelp. I told the cashier it was our visit to this coffee shop and that we were out of town and we found this coffee shop on Yelp. My husband and I ordered our usual drinks, caramel macchiato with oat milk for me and regular cold caramel macchiato frap for my husband. I especially asked for non-dairy milk because I can not tolerate dairy. Dairy gives me gas. On the way home to San Jose, while drinking my coffee, my stomach was not feeling well. This only happens when I eat/drink dairy. So, I know they used regular milk on my coffee. I'll never go back again if I ever go to Salina/pass by even. It's a simple order and they can't even make it right. And I was charged the extra fee for the oat milk. Unbelievable! read more

Drinks: If you enjoy frappes I would recommend the oaxacan dark if you're looking for something unique and organic. The Caramelo is the sweetest one and the least sweet is the Classico. The only reason I rated it a 4 is due to them not offering oat milk. They have other options such as almond milk and soy milk. However, I've tried it with almond milk and it changed the entire taste. Customer service: I've had no issues with customer service. Everyone's great! Overall, if you haven't been here before I would highly recommend it. It's organic and tastes delicious.
