I am a fan of Peet's, but not all Peet's are alike. It is amazing though that generally they are very consistent in making their coffees. I am picky! Been a Starbucks barista, taken several classes in the art of tasting and making coffee and spent many hours making coffee on my numerous gadgets. I'm not an expert, but probably know more than the average coffee drinker. So this what I thinks of this location: Since moving to this neighborhood, I visit this Peet's probably 4 times a week. They do a great job with all their drinks. They pay attention to the quality and freshness of the drinks. The place is clean and has a nice ambience with the indoor and outdoor seating which seems to be enough to not make the place feel crowded. I'd give it a five star rating except for one thing: I come here so frequently, that by now I would think they would remember my name. I greet the baristas by name, yet they appear to be so engrossed in what they are doing that they hardly acknowledge anyone coming in. They are friendly when you are at the counter, so this place could be a Superb place with a tad bit more customer recognition. read more

This is the best location for Peets Coffee!! Everyone is super friendly and knows you by the name. Black Tie and Maple Latte is must try! Bakery items are also yummy :) I go here almost everyday and I am always delighted with every visit! read more

A cup of coffee here is just as delicious as the Peet's coffee I used to have at the original coffee gathering place in Berkeley. I am elated that Peet's has made it down to Southern California. Clean friendly, great outside seating, free wifi!! Nice organic options for snacks! This place is great! My only complaint, being that I'm often working on the road is that the music tends to be a little too loud to make a few phone calls inside. Bummer... They open a little later than posted, which is a problem if you want early morning coffee. For my taste, I like Starbucks coffee a little better than Peet's, but Peet's used to have the better tea. As Starbucks just recently bought Teavana, I have to say that Starbucks wins in this category as well. read more

The only other place I get coffee in San Clemente besides Zebra House Coffee is Peet's. It's soo good. There's nothing like a good cup of coffee and Peet's definitely has it. Plus their employees are really sweet. I haven't had any of their pastries yet, but they look really, really good. It's comfortable and relaxed. Definitely the worst Peets I've been into. Messy, disorganized, and the worst part, the staff and management. They just clearly don't care. 10 people in line, 5 people working, one is working the register and one on the espresso machine, but the others are just standing around. I travel to San Clemente on a semi-regular basis and Peet's is always a nice change from the options in my home town. This Peet's is the pits. A collection of "wanna be hip" baristas whose greatest talent is their ability to roll their eyes. One go-getter had the nerve to say "we aren't like Starbucks...we don't write on the cups". Young lady...don't kid yourself. You want so badly to be Starbucks. Try a new career if you get flustered when someone orders a 16oz drink that is usually referred to a medium in your vernacular. Then open your eyes and close this store. 7-11 has better coffee and much better customer service. read more

Was here yesterday and the staff was super friendly .. I got a coconut mocha freddo for the first time but it was too coconutty for me so I asked if they could make me a regular mocha freddo instead and they gladly did then the man even walked it out to me on the patio.. still wasnt what i wanted exactly, it tasted pretty bland.though, it could just be because im use to CBTL stuff which is very flavorful.. .So my boyfriend encouraged me to suck it up because the staff was too nice to keep giving it back ;) hahaha. read more

Takes a lot to get this Pier bowl resident to go up to Talega. But I venture up there more often than I want to, for I can't get a cuppa Joe worth drinking at any of the indie coffee places that I can walk to. I want to like them. I really do. But no go on these; getting a really flavorful regular brew hasn't happened. This baby boomer is not looking for "vibe" nor intensely sweet concoctions that millennial and sugar addicted females of all ages are satisfied with. And don't get me started on "medium roast", the marketing term for dishwater, reminiscent of a hot, moderately priced, tea-colored drink I consumed for caffeine reasons in the eighties in the Midwest to avoid that widely available swill inaccurately called tea resulting from a Lipton's teabag and hot water. Yuck. My neighborhood offers a Starbucks with a great patio enjoyed by consultants meeting with potential clients and the richest population of homeless and schizophrenics in town. I enjoy this theatre now and then but this is not a place to drink coffee. Starbucks, decades ago, brought very good coffee to all of the west coast. Thanks for the memories. (If memories were all I sang... ). Overall I'm pretty happy with the generally high standard of coffee on the left coast compared to other parts of this country. San Clemente, my beloved adopted city has a number of dysfunctions and making a serious cup of coffee seems one of these. Peet's has had (note the perfect indicative tense here) the consistent ability to give me a good cup for years. The 4 stars are here for this reason. In recent months the consistency is gone. Good grief! Please, Peet's, fix this. Don't go down the tubes like Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. The staff is very good and it's a pretty good place for an office for a few hours and to snigger at some trophy wives. The pastries, always head and shoulders above Starbucks are beginning to tank, too. It smells like Peet's has a new top exec from Starbucks. Go ruin somebody else's chain restaurant please.
