good-size peet's location at rivermark village, and one of the few businesses open at the crack of dawn on saturday morning, which is when i'm usually there. amazingly, there are quite a few customers here at such an early hour on a saturday, as i see folks with their laptops and others with their newspaper; everyone with a cup 'o joe and/or a pastry to accompany their device of choice. restrooms are conveniently located by one of the entrances, one for the men, one for the women, and fortunately, no wait at such an early hour. although, on occasion, i have felt that the restrooms could use a bit more attention to cleanliness. there is ample seating inside as well as several tables outside, which i love to take advantage of on a sunny day. the service provided is pretty standard, average, and i've never had any issues with my order. parking is immediately outside the storefront, if you can score rockstar parking, else there is ample parking inside rivermark village. read more

I've been coming here for years, and to be honest, I've never had a problem with this place until yesterday, the 17th of June, 2014. This location is along my commute to work, so I've been grabbing my coffee here for the past couple of weeks, instead of my usual go to places: Chevron off McCarthy and Montague or the Starbucks at River Oaks. So I get to Rivermark this past Tuesday, and as expected there was a bit of a wait; actually, it seemed longer than usual. Instead of being bored, I decided to take some pictures for a Yelp review - I felt the wall menu would be a great one, or maybe a closeup of the espresso machine (I was standing next to the pick up counter). As I was trying to frame a shot, a female barista yells at me: "Are you taking my picture?" I wasn't. Flustered with her accusatory tone, I quickly snapped a shot of the wall menu; after which, I respond to her with, "I wasn't taking a picture of you." She replies with, "Coz' people take my picture all the time," and she goes on about how much she dislikes it. Adding, "if I wanted to take a picture of myself, I can take my own selfie..." blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... At this point, I'm thinking: either she's famous, and I don't know who she is, or she's got a real high opinion of herself. I mean, to me, she's not the sort of girl I'd ever give a second look, much less, take a picture of... she has a problem with paparazzi, really?!! Not to be mean, but she's unremarkable looking: chubby, unkempt blonde hair, loud, with a grumpy pale face, topped off with a shitty personality. All in all, the coffee's good, the service is normally fine, but this one barista incident, left a bitter coffee after taste in my mouth. For this reason, I had to downgrade my planned rating from 4 stars to 2. Really, don't be rude to customers, especially when they're about to write a Yelp review. Came here with my volleyball crew and I never had Peet's before. (I'm not from Cali) SO I walk in and ask my friends is this place really better than Starbucks? The barista yells out YESSSSS. Hahahaha... I like that stuff, anyway she(Barista) started talking about how she is from Seattle and the way they brew their coffee is 100 times better. I had a salty caramel latte. It was great especially because it was cold outside but as far as being better than Starbucks I couldn't really tell that much of a difference. I'm not a big coffee drinker though. The coffee shop was pretty big. There were multiple groups around and the latte came out in like 4 minutes after I ordered it. As far as service and quality this place is awesome ..... If Peet's gets a rewards app like Starbucks I might convert over... For some reason the quality of the drinks doesn't measure up to most other Peet's. For example, when I order a mocha it tastes more milky and the chocolate has a funny taste. I don't find that in other Peet's. In most other locations I taste coffee and the hit of chocolate. Try the one in Morgan Hill off Cochrane and you'll know what I'm talking about. read more

I really really really dig this location. I never thought about it before because I was so loyal to the Sunnyvale location. Sorry, but I may have a new favorite Peet's. And this is it! The space is great. Very open and inviting. Lots of tables, perfect for studying. No issue with connecting to their wifi (just get the access code when you order). I think I've been here about five times in the last month at varying times in the day. Rivermark itself is a nightmare to park in between the hours of 12 and 1 of any workday lunch so keep that in mind. This location is fast! Whether they are full or you only have one person in front of you, these guys take your order and nail it shut within a minute. There is a ton of inside seating and this place is very woodsy which comes off as warm and comfortable. There is also a fair amount of outside seating which is perfect for people watching. I'd say that Rivermark is close to Willow Glen in the amount of people walking around and just enjoying the day. I'm a vanilla Latte fiend but have also had their regular coffee. Both are definitely something to Yelp home about! I have it from a reliable finiky 2 year old source that their biscotti is also awesome. I can't stand any biscotti myself so I deem it as personally unrateable. OH, and they don't charge for wireless (or at least not on my ATT iPhone). read more

Several visits to finally admit that it is only this location that has customer services issues. Most recently visited to ONLY purchase whole beans. Stood by the bean counter for a few minutes and a pretty lady walked passed and was clearly irritated, asked if I'd been helped. I told her no and she walked passed and took several coffee orders before telling me I had to go thru the regular line. I was upset that she didn't tell me that when she asked if I'd been helped. Other Peets locations have a separate line to order beans. When I told her which beans I wanted, she instructed me back to original counter where I was waiting - BUT, decided to take a few more coffee orders before coming back to help me. What should have only taken a few minutes, became a long wait and as she handed me the beans, she sarcastically said, "you're welcome" and walked away before I could even say thank you. I appreciate Peets the organization, and will only visit the franchises that truly appreciate their customers - If you love the coffee as much as I do, then visit the Santana Row, Mountain View, Los Altos locations instead. I'm sorry. I've been coming here more often and every time i come here it's horrible. 1. Bad service ex- I work for Sbux so when i accidentally said "tall" instead of small, the girl gave me the most disgusted look and was like "uh, small or large..." My bad! Saying "tall" comes naturally to me. 2. The bathroom is disgusting ex- There's never toilet paper, ever. By now they should recognize me and be polite or something, but obviously at Peets they don't focus on customer service. I still come here just because me and my friends meet up here and the outside patio is really nice and there's plenty of places to sit. I'm drafting this review on my mobile using the Yelp App. I read another reviewer ONE STARRED this location because Peet's has a one hour limit with purchase. I suspect this cheap reviewer never purchased or went into the store, but rather tried to access free WiFi from the parking lot. I ran a speed test on Peet's WiFi and it measured about 1400 kbps download about the same as 3G, which is slower than Sprint's 4G which this area receives. I'm hooking up less with open WiFi since the speeds are hardly better than my mobile data plan. Personally I'm glad Peet's institutes a more rigid WiFi policy because I like how it cuts down on the laptop enviroment. (#@$?%! whilst drafting this yelp review my alotted one hour at Peet's ran out) Nice large location with lots of tables and seats in and outdoors. The cashiers and baristas look like they have a lot of room to work their caffeine magic. Located inside a strip mall with lots of parking. The staff are really friendly and I hate to leave a bad review but...the last 5 times I have been here they have screwed up my order. They either give me something completely different than what I ordered or they forget an ingredient. Horrible coffee. This place used to be good two/three years ago, but now it's just burnt coffee. The alameda cafe is amazing. The rivermark one is as bitter and burnt as coffee can be. Latest experience: Was there last Sunday and ordered a Havana cappuccino. Coffee was burnt and non drinkable. Asked the barista to remake the cup and he looked disgruntled and gave me attitude. The second cup was better, but still burnt. Ended up tossing the cup and going over to another cafe. Would not recommend this Peets. read more

I'm shocked that it took me 6 months to review this Peet's Coffee! Especially since I'm here buying a drink at least once a week! Everytime I'm at the Rivermark Plaza for grocery shopping, quick to-go dinners or meeting up with friends for a cup of coffee... I always stop by here. Since all menus are basically the same for Peet's Coffee, I'll comment on the unique things about this store. 1) Free Wifi plus fair amount of seating indoors and out. 2) Pretty cool location to people watch :P 3) Not-so-noisy ambiance for light studying I definitely feel that Peet's coffee offers a better quality of coffee and tea selections in comparison to Starbucks, but the only downfall about all Peet's is the lack of selection in food choices. I'm not a huge fan of their baked goods and this location is no different. If I'm craving for food + coffee, I head to the Starbucks off of Montague. read more

As most cafes are moving away from adding an extra charge for beverages that don't come from an animal, this coffee shop continues to add a 70 cents tax to those who are lactose intolerant and/or against breastfeeding from a mammal after the age of two. I love Peet's Coffee, so my review is solely based on the layout of the store and customer service. It stinks. The cafe is laid out in a way that doesn't make use of its space. There's a huge open space in the middle of the store, and the tables shoved in the sides and corners, where there's not good lighting. The thing that really turned me off about this place though is the barista that made my drink the last time I went. I guess she over-filled the cup a little bit, so she proceeded to wipe the sides and the rim with her hand. Ew. I don't want to drink something that somebody else's hands touched. And I don't want to put my mouth to the rim of a cup that was wiped by somebody else. There are plenty of towels around, why couldn't she have used one of them? It really grossed me out. What if she was handling money and the registrar right before and didn't wash her hands? Disgusting. read more

I'm not a Peet's fan but I went here for the free coffee deal on 8/1. I got there an hour before it closed, and there was still a considerable line of people waiting to order. Which was understandable, since everyone loves free coffee. By the time I got to order, they were out of Matcha green tea freddo - which is also still understandable, since they had such a huge traffic of people that day. But what disappointed me was the sanitation of the coffee dripping area. I know it's busy and there were only two staffs there (not counting the cashier), but really? Throwing away grounded coffee right next to the coffee dripping area - which was clearly visible - was not something I wanted to see while waiting for my own coffee. It's just... bleh. Also, the Mocha Freddo I ended up getting was wayyyy too sweet, as if they just poured syrup into it. I've had Mocha Freddos at different Peet's locations before, so I know it's not supposed to taste that way. Overall, I don't really want to go back to this location.. but if I do, I hope I'll get a better experience out of it. read more

Great location, friendly service, and rich coffees! I love how dark and flavorful the cappuchinos are (the foam seems to disappear and leave you with espresso shot) and they have one of my favorite dessert loaves that you can find at a chain coffee shop - cherry chocolate banana bread. Aiyeee! The coffee beans here are so rich that when you leave, you smell like coffee for hours afterward. read more

I come here often for my morning cup of Joe as I live right across from Peet's. What I like: - They have a two espresso shot minimum in each coffee (small & medium have 2 shots, large has 3). - They sell other coffee paraphernalia like the Hario Coffee Drip Kettle Buono and tea infusers, which make great gifts for the coffee or tea lover in your life :) - You can buy coffee beans and get them ground here. I particularly like their Cafe Domingo, a medium roast with a sweet toffee finish. - They have fairly knowledgeable baristas - They have a Yelp checkin offer for $1 off any beverage excluding bottles and juices (as of 12/25/2012) What I don't like: - Their drip coffee sucks. Period. (I know, what was I doing having drip coffee in the first place, right?) - I feel like they use a dark roast for the espresso (atleast on days that I've visited them), which is a bit too much for me. - It can get very busy/loud here because of the number of offices nearby, so it's not the perfect place to grab a table and get some work done. Though I have been brainwashed and sometimes make the mistake of ordering a grande nonfat latte at Peet's, they at least aren't jerky about it like other locations and still make it for me. At another Peet's, (names withheld to protect the guilty) I ordered a grande nonfat latte and they told me "We don't have those here." Color me confused because I was at a coffee place so I knew they had lattes. So I said "WHAAAAT?" a la Lil John. The snobby person at the counter said, "We only have small, medium and large." You know what I meant! Jeebus. I could have done without the tude since I didn't have my caffeine yet. They were lucky I didn't have the reflexes to punch them in the face. I'll show you grande! The people here are nice and understand that the brainwashing is just temporary and obviously I like coffee that doesn't taste burnt as I'm at Peet's and not the other place. Came here on Saturday for scones and a hot chocolate. We ordered two strawberry scones, one chocolate croissant, and one peppermint hot chocolate. Our order was taken immediately and we only had to wait a bit for the drinks and scones. I was a little disappointed by the scone selection at this location after having recently visited the Peets in Downtown San Jose on Santa Clara street where they have about a dozen scones to choose from. This location only had 5 or 6, hence the two stars since meh, I've experienced better, even at Peets. Since it's Rivermark, parking was challenging and we ended up taking the 5 minute parking spot (15 minutes is close enough to 5). The indoor seating was full so we opted to sit outside, we were lucky as someone was getting up from a table right when we walked out. In all they delivered on the scones and hot chocolate but wouldn't make this my "go-to" coffee shop by any means. read more

This location is the most convenient for me, but it is definitely not my fave! The service can be super slow at times - particularly in the mornings if there's a long line! Pretty sure I've waited more than 20 minutes for the barista to make my drink on more than one occasion. It can get frustrating if you're already late to work... That said, the coffee's quite good. Lattes are great. Also, thumbs up to Peet's for providing free wifi (ask the barista for the code - lasts 2 hours at a time, but you can ask for a new code when your time runs out.) When the barista handed my drink, she kept staring b/c she knew what was up, yet there was no apologies nor thank you's. I was too disappointed to say anything to them. Take refuge here from Starbucks. A great stop for a post lunch coffee to ward off the onset of food coma. It looks bad when your eyes are glazed, or you are nodding off in a meeting. Here's a little secret: If you buy coffee (whole bean or ground), you can get a complimentary cup of coffee. Any amount of coffee will do, even a 1/4 pound! Buy less so you will use it while it's fresh. Also, if you've already had coffee, you can opt for a coupon for your free coffee to use another time. The espresso forte is a pretty solid blend. I stopped by for a shot before driving 8 hours to Bishop through the Sierras. It is so good I bought some for my stove top espresso maker to brew some at camp. Mmmm... Sit at one of the tables outside on a nice sunny day, but have a quick look around before you start up any gossip because your co-workers may be near. Parking in Rivermark is generally left to the vultures. If you don't get lucky, you have to follow someone back to their car. Or, find street parking in the adjacent townhouse area. I've only been here twice, and both times I ordered an item that tasted better from Starbucks. First was a frappaccino-like drink in summer and recently their pumpkin spice latte. The pumpkin spice latte was terrible. I actually couldn't finish more than a quarter of it so that was $4 down the garbage. I was pretty disappointed since I like the Starbucks version a lot. However, I do like the ambiance of the Rivermark location. There aren't any soft cushiony chairs, but there are counters and tables to study or read a paper and lots of seating inside and outside. LAPTOP USERS: Take note that unless you have a tall torso, you're going to find it hard to work on a laptop for long because the counters and most tables are relatively too tall for the seats here. I'm not a particularly short person (5' 5") and I find it uncomfortable. But that's a nitpicky observation. Service was so-so... the servers are pretty into their own conversation, but friendly enough when taking orders. I do like that it's open until 10pm Mon to Sat. For some reason the wireless network didn't work for me. I couldn't tell if the network was down or if it was my computer but I snagged a free wireless connection from a neighbouring business just fine. read more

He didn't need to because I was not waiting too long in the first place but the fact that he was on top of my order made for a very pleasant visit. Better coffee than Starbucks, hands down. Love the almond latte. I live in Rivermark and have been coming to this Peets for over 10 years. Many of the employees there are my friends. Sadly, there are a few that never remember my name. Now I realize that they get hundreds of customers a day but I come to that Peets just about every day and have been for a really long time. I won't stop coming to Peets but it would be a more pleasant if the employees went out of their ways to remember the names of the "regulars" and attempt to build a relationship with them. read more

Re: Yosef I visit this location daily with my husband and it as not as bad as everyone says on here, yes service may lack sometimes but we don't know what goes on behind the scene for example iv noticed there isn't enough people working at times probably due to management. For those who were actually born in the USA Yusuf, not everyone gets the pleasure of not working in retail environment. I myself had to work in a coffee shop during college and let me tell you it was brutal. Worst customers, not enough staff, over the top expectations. I can see why the staff may seem irritable at times for those who actually worked during their college years knows what I'm talking about. I buy 1/2 pound of coffee every 8-10 days because I love it fresh. Today was the first time the barista didn't offer me a complementary cup of coffee. When I asked for me, he cut me off by saying I am not eligible because I bought only 1/2 pound. I asked him when the policy changed. And he blatantly lied - he told me it changed 6 months ago! I told him that it was surprising as I was offered a cup of coffee pretty much every 10 days for the past 6 months. I called their customer service and it is confirmed - they still do include a complementary cup of coffee with 1/2 pound purchase. They told me that they would send me a coupon for a cup of coffee. Wow! Thank you so much for what I should have gotten in the first place! :-/ I am not going back there. Humiliated in front of the a huge line. Luckily Safeway next door sells excellent Illy. This location tends to be my go-to coffee shop due to its convenience, location, and later-hours than the nearby Starbucks or other coffee shop locations. Plus, it's on the way to work! Service here is pretty spot on. The shop is never too crowded (even if the parking lot is!), there's plenty of seating, and the clientele is typically very quiet. I always order the Caffe Freddo, which is Peet's version of a Starbuck's Coffee Frappucino. There's usually a Yelp check-in offer, which consists of $1 off a certain type of beverage. I was finishing my shift over at Red Robin when my co-worker asked if I could grab him some coffee and get myself something on his card. Of course I was happy to run over there! I have tried the bottled teas here, but I didn't like it so much because I think I was expecting a different flavor. However, the other night, my co-worker wanted an iced white mocha and I went with a vanilla latte. I was really surprised to have such great coffee. I thought it'd be like a Starbuck's but I was pleasantly surprised :) The employees were really sweet and it was actually the cashier who suggested the vanilla latte. That cup of coffee was the perfect fix for me! Now, I want to go back and try more things that Peet's has to offer. Everything was decently priced, had an amazing flavor, and had great service. Wi-Fi is important to me when hanging out in coffee shop. The wi-fi I did get was slow and very laggy. To be fair, it wasn't the wi-fi provided by Peet's - it was a general AT&T connection. Eventually I got connected to Peet's wi-fi - and got an splash page stating that the wi-fi was only for 1 hour. That was a big turn off for me - and after much frustration, I turned tail and headed out earlier than I wanted to. read more

I live close to this store and have been a frequent visitor. Firstly a Non - store specific feedback - If you are a lover of good coffee, you'll find Peet's is clearly better in terms of the quality, taste, aroma and flavor of its brew over other chain stores like Starbucks, Caribou, Seattle's Best etc., or even many of the specialized stores. Now to this store, convenient location (close to other food joints if you want to combine coffee w/ a meal, close to offices, residences etc.,), friendly baristas, nice environment, spacious (though gets crowded during certain times of the day), outdoor seating and of course good coffee.. These make this a great hangout place. On the cons, some of my favorite baristas have quit / been transferred. This has made the quality of the drink variable. Parking can be an issue during lunch time. Overall, a great place for a good coffee. Definitely worth an extra mile or two drive if you are in the neighborhood. read more

They flood us with locations on every corner, they invade out local neighboorhoods and run out small businesses, they suck!
