Decided to treat myself to a Gel manicure, since I usually never go do my nails. I was around the flatiron area and I found this place. The interior is very nice, simple and clean. Very spacious so I feel comfortable. I called before going in, and left my name. I went in and was greeted by someone near the front, and i told her my name and that I called before. but she had no idea what I was talking about. so she just told me to pick a color. I did, and I only waited for about 5 minutes until someone was free to do my nails. My nails were done by a very nice korean lady. she was friendly and did make some small conversations. She was also very delicate on my nails and hands. I was in this neighborhood for a meeting and while waiting for the bus I saw this little spot across the street begging for me to bring my raggedy nails in for treatment. Upon walking in I was immediately addressed by a lovely employee of the place who helped me pick out my color. She was polite and friendly and I was immediately pleased to have listened to the nail spirit! The decor is extremely charming and I was at ease in the cushioned benches adorned with pillows and everything. I had Suzie who was attentive to detail, helpful with advice on different colors and didn't even get upset when I accidentally spilled my medium sized DD coffee all over her station. I felt horrible! But she cleaned it up with no visible agitation and continued with my service. First off- I saw a mouse run along the wall during my manicure. Anyway.... The overall gel manicure looks nice. She was also very quick which is a good and bad thing. Although I got in and got out super fast- she did accidentally nip my skin (in the first 5 minutes) causing it to bleed. I didn't think it was a big deal because yanno it happens. Since I am not one to watch my nails as I am getting a manicure- I was surprised to hear her apologize again once she was done my nails. I looked at my nail again- and it was still bleeding. To the point where it was going around my nails to the tip of my finger. I quickly paid ($36.75) and left. I biked 15 blocks and once I got home my finger was still bleeding. I was shocked but luckily just applied pressure and it stopped. Overall, the manicure was nice but I will probably go somewhere else. I just wasn't in love with my experience to go back. The woman giving me a manicure pushed my cuticles so hard that my finger started to bleed!!! She put some cream on it and cleaned it and then blamed me for not telling her it hurt sooner. She didn't know her own strength or has never pushed cuticles in a normal fashion? Who knows. Well, today I have a bruise and it hurts to type on that finger. My sister and I have been coming here for years (original location was on Lexington avenue) and they're literally the best nail salon (um, hello, even Kim Kardashian came here to get her nails done lol). All the ladies are so sweet here and do an amazing job. I always get a Spa Pedicure and usually get gel nails. They have a huge selection of nail polish - always keeping up with the new Essie colors, which is my obsession. Solid place to get nails done in the neighborhood. They do a good job and respond quickly whether over Yelp or phone for appointments. Interior is very nice and the pedicure chairs are tucked away in the back with sliding doors for some privacy. Also seating for manicures are quite comfy. I do feel that my regular pedicure during my last visit was slightly rushed and the nail tech did not do the most thorough job in callus removal. I usually get pretty good gel manicure and pedicure here however the experience was ruined last week when a GIANT cockroach ran into the nail heater I was using to dry my toe nails. I felt something on my foot, looked down and screamed. I am terrified of bugs, especially giant cockroaches, so was pretty disappointed when I was offered no more than an apology for this pretty scary (and dirty) experience. Not to mention, she rushed through to paint another womans nails whom also worked there...I used to come here all the time even, was a loyal customer for your not so great prices, because the service was better. I should start by saying this was the first time I've been to Peggy's. I've read the reviews and decided to try it with a specific Xmas holiday theme in mind. I came in here around 4pm on a Wednesday before Xmas and it was pretty quiet. I was taking right away to get my pedicure. I was a bit disappointed at the color selection, was looking for a glittery red but they didn't have much in that realm. The Korean lady (I didn't get her name) who did my nails suggested a darker red on the bottom and a littler glitter red as the top coat which I agreed. But then when it came to the design, she wasn't as strong. All i wanted was a present bow on the big toe on both feet with white and gold (not silver that I ended with) accents. I showed her a photo from Pinterest as a reference and she decided to do it as best she could (including the silver color instead of gold which I took off the nail color shelves). Next the gel manicure with a simple Xmas tree design on two fingernails. I wanted to do red with green and gold accents but ended with green with no design. Like my toes, she suggested dark bottom layers with lighter glittery green as a top coat since there weren't many color options for gel manicures. I noticed when my feet were still drying that she did a weird color mixing that made the tips of my fingernails uneven which was disappointing. But then the price, $70. Wow, that was such a rip off! I did get a new comer bag with socks and a eye mask and she was nice but not worth $70. I've had better nail jobs elsewhere with better colors, better stylists. Unfortunately I'd only come back for a super SUPER basis manicure and/or pedicure in a pinch since it us super close to my apartment. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star. I hate to be the one to leave a negative review but it is what it is. I was on a hunt looking for a new spot to get my nails done. Every salon I came across all had really negative reviews and I wasn't up to take a chance and waste my time and money. Peggie all had good reviews so I took a chance. Requested an appointment and was able to come in after work on a Friday. Very pricey so I was hoping for an excellent job. Hannah was assigned for my pedicure and full set tips. The pedicure was not complete, she dunk my feet in water for less than a minute, did not scrub my feet at all, remove any cuticles, or anything in that nature. She just threw some soap on my feet and rubbed it off with a towel and went straight to painting my toe nails. THAT IS NOT A PEDICURE. She went on to my nails. My nail beds are very weak and thin so I told her to please go easy with the electric file. I told her it was burning and she did not listen. She just continued on. I was the last one in the salon and I could see she was rushing. Paint job was not even. She asked me to pay. She handed me the receipt. As I am sitting down and signing and writing in my tip, she is all in my face looking to see how much I am tipping. She was leaned over literally inches from my face, I would say 1 inch close (VERY DISTURBING). I tried my best to be patient and ignore it because she clearly does not know any better. Hannah has the nerve to ask for more tip.. Seriously?? Respectfully, I told her it is rude to ask for more than the customer decides to give. It is up to the customer discretion how much to tip. Hannah then has the nerve to tell me "This is for my boss. It is my bosses money." LOL, are you kidding me? Did her boss do the job for me? NO. Hannah did not do an amazing job to begin with to even deserve a tip in the first place. Word of advice to the manager: MANAGE YOUR EMPLOYEES AND TEACH THEM BASIC CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU DON'T EVER ASK FOR MORE TIP. I will not be returning. FIRST AND VERY LAST TIME AT PEGGIE NAILS. read more

She was aggressive while working and I asked her multiple times that I like my nails pointy. She said it isn't nice pointy - I wasn't asking her for her opinion. If you don't impress me I tip you the way I feel. It was a $50 bill for fill-ins and I gave her $5. So nasty with their attitude. Never again. Walked in 11:30am was able to get a great nail tech Mobi who was so through and attentive to my gel pedicure. Great selection of gel colors and general clean with pleasant decor. $50 for gel pedi. I'll keep in mind for next time I'm around Kips Bay. read more
