This was close to my work so I guess for something quick, it definitely hits the spot after a long day. It's almost empty whenever I visit this place; I think a few years ago it was at least somewhat packed. The only thing that's louder than spoken word is the sounds you'll hear from the chef using the wok to cook things. It's actually really satisfyingly to hear because at least you know the food you order is made on the spot. I ordered the Sesame Chicken with fried rice, nothing special. They give you a pretty decent portion but I think they give you way too much sauce. My fried rice was soaked in the sweet tangy sauce they used to coat the Sesame Chicken with. Perhaps I could have asked if I could get the fried rice in a separate bowl to prevent that from happening. It's been a while but I do remember their menu being a bit more... extensive; it's good that they wanted to simiply the menu but its like half of the options are gone. There was once a Coke Freestyle in the restaurant too but sadly it's been replaced with a 6 soda fountain dispenser. Comes with your usual coke flavors. While I enjoy the silence eating food, maybe some music in the background would be more.. uplifting? Other than that, can't go wrong with this place. read more

Sadly, this is not a place I can recommend. :-(. I used to really like this place...they used to be busy and popular. The servers were just fine, so it's not a people issue. It's the food. I had the flagship Pei Wei shrimp, it was so sweet, sweeter than any dessert...a very "simple syrup" concentrated sweetness. Sickly sweet. My husbands shrimp dish, the kung pow shrimp...also cloyingly sweet. My fried rice, added for an up charge, also nothing like any fried rice I've ever had. I ended up dumping it, and I actually walked away hungry. The food just wasn't good. (The big chain "animal" competitor does a far better job.) Like I said, on a busy weekend night, the place was empty. It really didn't used to be that way. I think this chain really needs a total menu and recipe overhaul and first and foremost seriously reduce the sugar content. Honestly - I hope this helps. I wish them success. read more

As a Pei Wei lover, the reviews are too harsh here. Yes, it started as a value, fast food chain type PF Changs, but then the company got separated. In the American Chinese, fast food/self serve category, I am not ready to give up entirely on this option, still better than Panda Express IMO. 3 entrees, one appetizer, and 1 dessert for $39.99 in 2023 is a good value for the fast service and casual ambiance. Would be a good option for takeout for the price. The recipes seem to now differ more than PF Changs, but I hope they stay around. read more

Wow oh wow how Pei Wei has fallen from grace. I used to visit this restaurant religiously a few years ago and hadn't been in a while since they are so far from where I currently live. But while out visiting some friends I spotted this location. I order the family bundle for me and the fam thru the app and proceeded to pickup using the curbside option. Now they also have an inside pickup option too but I chose the curbside option so I could stay in the car. After waiting for about 10 minutes and clearly seeing someone at the counter who wasn't coming out to me I proceeded inside. The staff member, who was busy pouring condensed milk into containers and never looked up at me asked if I had a pickup. I told him my name and he proceeded to grab my bag. Let me say this first...the presentation is nice, hence the picture, but the food wasn't that good. It tasted days old and possibly reheated, not fresh and those donuts in middle are disgusting. I'll stick to the PF Chang offerings in the frozen food section at Safeway from now on and save my coins from this overpriced platter. read more

This was my last visit to Pei Wei. We waited almost 45 minutes between the time we ordered and the time our meal was provided. They are no longer providing sit down service. Instead they give you a pager and have you pick up your food. They are terribly understaffed. There were only four people on duty with a line going out the door. They have two cooks and two servers. One of the servers doubles as the cashier. There was water on the floor for virtually the entire time we were waiting with a caution sign before it was finally mopped up. They no longer have lemons and oranges available for their tea. None of the condiments that used to be available such as eating utensils, hot sauce, red pepper etc. are available. When the food was finally served it tasted pretty good which is why it's two stars versus one. But it's not enough to redeem a badly managed restaurant. NOTE: Mine was an online order for delivery, and this affects the results of my order, IMO. Ordered the Bourbon Chicken (gluten free version), the Thai donuts, and the Mandarin Orange Tea. It is surprisingly hard to find good Asian food in East Fairfax County. Stopped by PEI WEI while across town. The good(ish): Food was decent, but not amazing. I had sweet and sour chicken, which was downright good. My wife had beef and broccoli, which was really beef gristle slices with broccoli... The bad: I had a cup of water, the wife a Coke. Neither were consumable due to the foul tasting water. I get it, city water, and if you want better buy a bottle... bit when the fountain drinks are so foul smelling and tasting that it overpowers the syrup something is wrong. I am under no illusion that what I am eating is authentic Chinese! :-) I like the Mandarin Kung Pao dish - it has a combination of salty, soy flavor, with a crispness and caramelization that appeals to my taste buds. I had a $10 gift card for Pei Wei - so I went by this location for lunch today - first time I had been in this location. Place was packed at 1:00 pm - I was lucky to get a table! First and foremost you have to realize that a) this is an "Americanized" "Asian" restaurant; b) none of the dishes actually taste like their authentic namesake; c) no one is pretending like this place really serves authentic "Asian" food; d) I'm sure everything is pre-prepped; e) the staff is mostly Hispanic so it's just really hilarious to get a "dan dan mian" from someone you least expect! Keeping these things in mind, Pei Wei is actually pretty good. It's basically a good "cheap eats" place that's self-serve. The food is "prepped" (notice I did not say cooked) in an open kitchen, and in general, the staff is great. Most of the dishes have a sweet thick sauce on it, and sometimes has hot spice in it. Their hot and sour soup is good and cheap and sometimes, I enjoy their carry out. Like I said, it's not at all authentic, but if you're in the area and have a hankering for generic Chinese food, it hits the spot. You pay first and get a number and the food will be delivered to your table later. You can save the tip money here. Prior to Covid, pei wei was one of your go-to-stops for takeout. The portions were good, price was good and service was good. After Covid, pei wei has gone downhill! Their regular portions are like on the smaller side and curbside pickup is non existent even though it says to text when you arrive..no one shows up outside and you have to go inside where you will see 6-7 customers waiting for their food! I think nail in the coffin for pei wei..maybe after of Chang's sold out..pei wei decided to mail it in. We stopped in for a quick snack. Parking is easy as long as you arrive off hours. There's also short term parking for the pick up patrons! Eggrolls of all kinds are my downfall..
