I'm not sure why the reviews are not great. The food is good and the service is decent. I think the portions may have gotten smaller, but that's about it. My go-tos are always the chicken lettuce wraps and the crab wontons. They are quick here and food comes out hot.

In and out in a flash! Had a good experience at Pei Wei. For fast casual the meal was decent. The silverware could have been cleaner but the service was fast and the food was fresh!

I'm a loyal customer, always delicious food, atmosphere is great, prices are phenomenal, and the place is super clean. The staff is super friendly, fast service. I Highly recommended. I have tried every single item in their menu... and everything is delicious

As a Pei Wei lover, the reviews are too harsh here. Yes, it started as a value, fast food chain type PF Changs, but then the company got separated. In the American Chinese, fast food/self serve category, I am not ready to give up entirely on this option, still better than Panda Express IMO. 3 entrees, one appetizer, and 1 dessert for $39.99 in 2023 is a good value for the fast service and casual ambiance. Would be a good option for takeout for the price. The recipes seem to now differ more than PF Changs, but I hope they stay around.

Wow oh wow how Pei Wei has fallen from grace. I used to visit this restaurant religiously a few years ago and hadn't been in a while since they are so far from where I currently live. But while out visiting some friends I spotted this location. I order the family bundle for me and the fam thru the app and proceeded to pickup using the curbside option. Now they also have an inside pickup option too but I chose the curbside option so I could stay in the car. After waiting for about 10 minutes and clearly seeing someone at the counter who wasn't coming out to me I proceeded inside. The staff member, who was busy pouring condensed milk into containers and never looked up at me asked if I had a pickup. I told him my name and he proceeded to grab my bag. Let me say this first...the presentation is nice, hence the picture, but the food wasn't that good. It tasted days old and possibly reheated, not fresh and those donuts in middle are disgusting. I'll stick to the PF Chang offerings in the frozen food section at Safeway from now on and save my coins from this overpriced platter.

What happened to this store? This store is FILTHY!!! I had to use you own chemicals to clean my own table! Floors at full of debris! There's a big leak and no management presence! GM needs to be here to fix the problem! Not just that, the portioning is ridiculously small! Overpriced and bland...but the price is the same! Ha! This was my last visit to Peiwei! I'm done!

Bento box with sweet and sour shrimp, California roll, edamame and (fried) dumplings.

Service was fast but the food is not good. The spicy Thai chicken in my bento box seemed to be cheap fried chicken nuggets in a mediocre sauce; the spicy tuna sushi was gas station grade. My only kind words are for the miso salad, which was fine, though half the greens were actually white. My daughter usually goes Gaga for sweet and sour, but she was duly unimpressed by the sweet and sour shrimp in her bento box, and although she doesn't like avocado much, she was surprised not to have any in her California roll sushi.

Ordered the chicken lettuce wraps for take out. The service was very fast and the food was not too bad. I've ordered take out before but never eaten there. There's always room to sit and their portions are pretty good. Great place for a fast take out and to fulfill your tummy!

On a Budget? In the mood for some Americanized Chinese food? Pei Wei is your place. {Ambiance} Relaxed. There are seats available outside as well. {Service} Self serve. When you enter, their is a huge menu to your right. Once you've placed your order at the cashier, you will be given a number card and cups for your beverage. Food comes out quick. There are chop sticks, forks, napkins, sauces, take out boxes, etc at the back of the restaurant. When you are done, you can leave your empty dishes at your table. {Food} Small Hot and Sour Soup- Not the best I've tasted. It wasn't bad either. Lots of tofu and there was some heat to it. Mandarin Kung Pao w/ Vegetables and Tofu- For the most part, the vegetables were cooked well and packed a lot of flavor. Beautiful pieces of broccoli. There were some carrot pieces that were overcooked. The tofu could have also been a bit softer. Pei Wei Spicy w/ Chicken- More meat than batter. Always a good thing. The sauce is more sweet than spicy (to me at least). Pad Thai w/ Veg and Tofu- Yum! The noodles are cooked perfectly. Plenty of soft tofu here (why aren't they just as soft in the Kung Pao dish?). Sweet and Savory. My Favorite dish! Sesame Chicken- The soy citrus glaze goes perfectly with the lightly crisp chicken. Thai Dynamite w/ Shrimp- Huge pieces of lightly battered shrimp tossed with Sriracha chile sauce. My 2nd Fave! {Prices} $2.00- 9.25. {Note} All of their Signature Dishes are served with rice. Your choice of white or brown.

Regardless of what Jade thinks about Pei Wei - I like certain dishes at Pei Wei. I am under no illusion that what I am eating is authentic Chinese! :-) I like the Mandarin Kung Pao dish - it has a combination of salty, soy flavor, with a crispness and caramelization that appeals to my taste buds. I had a $10 gift card for Pei Wei - so I went by this location for lunch today - first time I had been in this location. Place was packed at 1:00 pm - I was lucky to get a table! It did not take them long to get my meal out to me - I ordered it with Fried Rice. My only criticism is that they don't offer low-sodium soy sauce. I promptly inhaled my lunch!

First and foremost you have to realize that a) this is an "Americanized" "Asian" restaurant; b) none of the dishes actually taste like their authentic namesake; c) no one is pretending like this place really serves authentic "Asian" food; d) I'm sure everything is pre-prepped; e) the staff is mostly Hispanic so it's just really hilarious to get a "dan dan mian" from someone you least expect! Keeping these things in mind, Pei Wei is actually pretty good. It's basically a good "cheap eats" place that's self-serve. The food is "prepped" (notice I did not say cooked) in an open kitchen, and in general, the staff is great. Most of the dishes have a sweet thick sauce on it, and sometimes has hot spice in it. Their hot and sour soup is good and cheap and sometimes, I enjoy their carry out. Like I said, it's not at all authentic, but if you're in the area and have a hankering for generic Chinese food, it hits the spot. I also agree with Katie F.'s summary "wow, the Panera of Chinese food." Exactly!

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the owner, Jason. We bonded over our shared Cantonese backgrounds and even got to meet his aunt, who was visiting from California and happened to be sitting next to us. It made the whole experience feel incredibly welcoming and personal. We ordered the Dynamite Roll, which was a solid choice with 8 generous pieces, and the Szechuan spicy wontons, which were juicy with just the right amount of heat. If you visit, definitely grab a seat at the bar. The bartenders are friendly, engaging, and really add to the experience. We were treated to a complimentary shot of Jäger with Jason and even got to sample their Lychee Pearl cocktail because the bartender had made an extra. The cocktails really stood out. Instead of masking everything with sugary juices, they use extracts and creative techniques to build balanced drinks that complement the flavors beautifully. Jason also mentioned that their cocktail specials change every month, so we already told him we'll be back regularly to see what new creations he comes up with.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.

But what we did get was pretty darn good (if a bit pricey)! The style is much more authentic, so if you're looking for something like Hunan Cafe (Greenbriar), or that NOVA institution China King, this is different. Is it better? For the most part, yes. (But I still crave that Americanized sweet, spicy, glazey brown sauce that comes in slight variations in so many dishes). I had the hot and sour soup, Szechuan spicy fried eggplant sticks, Taiwanese rice noodles with fried tofu, and the Chengdu twice cooked pork. Everything was excellent, except....the hot and sour soup. Honestly, Hunan Cafe and China King beat the pants off this place's hot and sour soup. Here, it was a bit too sweet. It had some red chilies in it, but I could not detect much white pepper. And it's a vegetarian version, so no small bits of chicken or pork. I'd skip this the next time I order from here. But the other dishes... amazing! The noodles were light-tasting but still delicious. The eggplant was garnished with cilantro, garlic, salt, and red chili sauce. The twice cooked pork was sauteed with sliced leeks and the same red chili sauce. I think that's the fresh, zingy, spice flavor profile I like that can't be found at Americanized Chinese restaurants. Sure, China King has its place and I'll still go back there when I'm close (RIP China King Fair Lakes and Herndon). And admittedly, I go to that awful Panda chain occasionally because I never learn. The unfortunate thing is, I'll more likely go to these places than Cheng's because of the price. The pork dish was $21 and the noodle dish was $19. My total bill came to $60 before tax and tip. If I need to stuff my face with a Chinese umami bomb fast, I'm probably going to the other places for $15-30. I do want to try the rest of the menu at Cheng's, but it's going to be a drawn-out process for the sake of my wallet. I'd be remiss if I didn't include a comment from my dining partner. She compared the quality and taste of the food at Cheng's to Peter Chang's (either Peter Chang's-Herndon, or Mama Chang Fairfax). A high compliment. But she said the value is better at those places' AYCE options than what we got at Cheng's, and I agree. If you've been to none of these places, you have to try them all at least once.
