I've always had a great experience at Pei Wei, but today was horrible. I ordered my meal to go. There was no one in the restaurant other than the cook and the to go person. With that being said, you would think my food would be great. I ordered honey seared shrimp, chicken fried rice, crab wontons, and vegetable spring rolls. The crab wontons were burnt. The cook should have been embarrassed putting them in the box. My spring rolls were also too crispy. They had a burnt taste. I normally love their honey seared shrimp, but today it was a soggy mess. It was horrible. I'm so upset that I spent money on this meal. I should have known it was going to be bad when I saw the cook throw frozen crab wontons into the fryer. First time eating at PEI WEI at the Firewheel location and it was amazing!! My daughter and I walked in and was instantly greeted by all of the staff. We we're studying the menu and the lady working the front walked over and gave us recommendations before cashing us out. The other employees were non stop working in the kitchen, making sure the dining room was clean for the incoming customers, and ensuring everyone was satisfied as they walked past their tables. Was excited to learn this is a PF Chang's owned chain. Tried it out, given the grim lack of quality choices of chinese food in the Frisco area and....it was ok. By no means was it horrible (i.e. tasteless, greasy food like most places around...yes I'm looking at you Lucky 99, Hong Kong Express, Hot Wok Cafe), but it is nowhere near authentic and that's ok some times. Basic premise, Pei Wei has mastered the art of covering fried/deep-fried meats with their sauces, which are decent. Their starches (fried rice, fried noodles) are pretty decent, the sauces aren't spicy enough for me even when I requested extra spicy, but the food wasn't overly salty. I had the Kung Pao, the Thai Dynamite and the Sesame Chicken. None stand out in particular, but I also didn't feel like I wasted $30 after eating it (that regret has been the outcome of trying some other Chinese places around). I'd come back and try some of the other things they have like lettuce wraps. read more

This time I ordered the salad roll that looked like it was rolled by a child, it came apart too easy There was also something inside that tasted pickled, which is something I've never tasted in a salad roll. The peanut and sweet chili sauce tasted like it came out of a bottle. The new cauliflower fried rice was juicy and when I say juicy I mean there was a half a cup of some liquid at the bottom of the bowl. Highly disappointed in my most recent visit, this is, go to place, to get a delicious fast meal. Today was the beginning of a buy one get one free promotion and according to the staff was the reason why my food was taking so long. I waited for my meal for 45 minutes, there were four other customers in the dining area and several that were waiting for to go orders and I imagine many call in's we're on the list as well. I can only Imagine the extreme volume when a special like this is run, but you need to staff your restaurant appropriately to accommodate for the rush. After my 45-minute wait I received my cold food unfortunately I did not send it back because I did not want to wait another 45 minutes for food, and my Thai chicken was cold and not even spicy. There is a difference in the quality of food you get between Pri Wei locations. This one is particularly good - I usually order the Kung Pao beef. It comes out hot, bursting with flavor, and with generous portions. I lived nearby for 5 years so I've seen consistency. The only problem with the location is out of their control - and it's bad - it's the parking. Not nearly enough. Not even close. An idiot designed the parking lot with so few spaces for that many businesses. If you go at peak time, prepare to wait like you're visiting Stomebriar Mall on Christmas Eve.
