We arrived at the restaurant around 2:pm. After having a leisurely lunch, we went to pay the bill and were charged the dinner rate. The hostess explained that is didn't matter that the food on dinner menu was not available to us to eat but that we were paying after 3:00 pm, the time their computer changes to dinner pricing. I am a regular here. I've been enjoying their food for years. It definitely a "an America's Chinese " and not just "Chinese" food. And thats what I like about it. I do think the quality of food has gone a bit down. I wish they'd add more variety. Change it up a little. My favorite there is the peanut butter chicken and wings. Also there banana cream pudding and the banana with orange sauce for desert. The staff, some are friendly and some not very so. Since I'm a regular the ones who know me are very nice with me. But the place needs taking care of. I've never seen food on the floor or anything but still the place looks like it needs an update. I do not go there as much as before, again the food is a bit less interesting. The price is very reasonable. Considering how much food you could eat. I'd still go there of course, just wish they fix the place up and add more entrees to their menu. Also I think it's way better than Panda Express. read more

Huge selection of great food! The larger room in the back is great for larger groups. They have about 6+ flavors of ice cream you can hand scoop yourself. They have their own hibachi grill and sushi bar. My one complaint is that the waiters didn't fill our beverages as often as needed. read more

Like many Chinese buffets, Peking was pretty good and the place to go when they first opened. Not so much these days. I have eaten here many times for lunch as well as dinner on a few occasions. The buffet is now old, predictable, and badly in need of a makeover. The rice used with the sushi is gummy and not sushi rice. The food is pretty mediocre these days, not good but not horrible either. Service is very spotty. I often go through an entire meal without anyone offering to refresh my drink or clear plates. I can't think of a single Chinese buffet that I would recommend in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area and I have eaten at just about all of them at one time or another. Tried the teriyaki chicken and honey chicken. Teriyaki had little flavor and was so robbery it was like cheering on a tire. Honey was so hard I had a tough time eating it. My dad had a beef dish and said it was rubbery as well. We arrived right at opening and buffet was less than half full. My dad's iced tea looked so weak out was barely darker than my water. Best Chinese buffet in the CR/IC corridor!!! I love this place, they serve real, authentic Chinese food. They even serve the traditional Cantonese dish of steamed sticky rice inside a grape leaf. This place is very bad. Egg rolls had disgusting items inside. The only thing I liked was the chicken. They put raw food out so people could eat it. They put raw chicken shrimp and other stuff. This is for the Peking Buffet in Coralville, Iowa. The place is filthy dirty - dirt, grime, and food on the walls. There was a guy eating finger cakes right AT the buffet with crumbs spilling into the buffet. I have never given a 1-star review before, but it truly is so dirty that I had a hard time eating. The service was very pleasant and attentive. There is a great assortment of food at the buffet, but it seemed to me to be well below par. The food was often bland, overcooked, and not hot. That is hard to do. How do you make food either hard or chewy from overcooking and not be hot? The steam tables were often spewing out steam, but the food was not hot. My guess is it was reheated from the previous day, but there is no reason for me to go back and ask. Service was great. Food was risky. read more

Went for lunch on my birthday today. Had a good time, it's a very reasonably priced place to eat food. Has a grill much like Hu Hot, but it also has all sorts of other food like Fried Rice and other delicious morsels of beef, chicken, shrimp, clams, etc. There is also a sushi bar that has very delicious and clean sushi in it. Has Ice Cream, but (this is why I took a star off) the Ice Cream scoop is in a normal ice cream scoop area, but the water running in there is not hot, also that is the one thing that I worry about because people use different hand techniques to get Ice Cream and there's nothing certifying that the scooper hasn't been contaminated. While I was there, they refilled just about everything, I watched them make sushi and the wait staff was more than happy to assist you with anything that you need. This place was TERRIBLE. I went over to get some ice cream for dessert, and it was completely melted on one side of the freezer cart! The food was terrible, and there was not much of a variety. The majority of the food was undercooked and gross. The staff were rude. We got our check, and about 3 minutes later, a female member of the staff came over and said "Are you going to pay?", and after we said yes, she hovered until we got the money out to pay. We went to this buffet because it was the only place 12 us us could get in on a Saturday night. I should have starved my self. They have trays and trays of filler food offerings just to make it look like there is so much... such as bananas with red gooey sauce over them...hummm...Unfortunately, anything people would want there were aways out of. very dirty place. All I can say is you get what you pay for. I'm a huge buffet kinda gal so I'm pretty experienced. Quite the wide variety of food but the poorest quality I've ever come across ! This used to be my favorite but now it's disgusting 1. Bathrooms are not clean. One stall doesnt even have a door (women's) and the other doesnt flush. Hopefully you don't get diarreah because there's no toilet paper. 2. Food is rubbery, chewy, and cold. Not fresh. Lo mein when brought out they mix it in with the old one and try to put it on top. This place has really gone down hill. We've been coming here on and off for the past 18 years (even before the remodel after the 2008 flood). Within the past 3 years it has gotten really bad. For starters, the place is absolutely filthy. The restrooms are disgusting, the walls by the booths are splattered with food, the booths are sticky, etc. My husband is fairly certain there was mold growing in the icecream area. The food was okay (just okay). The waiter was smoking outside the front doors when we came in and the smell of cigarettes on his breath was enough to make me gag. He was again smoking at the front door when we left. The place is just generally run down and needs a major facelift and cleaning. Was also surprised that they charged for a 2 year old to eat at the buffet. To top it off, the waiter was very aggressive about his tip. He brought the bill and stood there and waited for our card. Had been taken here once before, before the flood and remodel, and I got sick soon after, so was in no hurry to return. Was recently taken out here again (not sure of prices/value as someone else paid the bill) after the remodel and the difference is amazing! It is so light and airy, doesn't feel claustrophobic or dark. The staff was pretty good, it was a very busy night, so not taking that against them. The food that I tried was very good. The selection/diversity of options is wonderful. They have some "crazier" options, such as frog legs, octopus, etc. but also have pizza and hot dogs. Next time, definitely bringing the kids, if anything just to see their reactions to some of the more unique dishes. :-) My favorites were the crab rangoons, honey chicken and the house special beef (my mouth is still watering for that stuff!). I have been to their lunch and dinner buffet and feel ready to write this review. The new setting is well... new. Nothing fancy, some nominal Chinese decorations. Big space with plenty of room to accommodate lots of people. Don't come here expecting authentic Chinese food. Don't come here expecting great Chinese food. In fact there are no great Chinese restaurants in the area. The food is surprisingly good considering they have to mass produce them. All the familiar favorites are available. Fish and squids are new. Still love their potstickers. I liked the mussels when they were cooked in black bean sauce before. Now they are pre-cooked and served chilled. I didn't see any crab legs. Mongolian grill is still a good option if you like to pick your own. Drink is cheap and service is brisk considering how crowded it is. If you are in the mood for some Chinese food and would like to try variety of dishes, this is the place. For best result, come when it is busy so that the food is constantly being replenished. If you come too early or late, the food will not be as fresh. read more

I am a huge fan of this restaurant as i go every week. They have a great selection like sushi, Mongolian grill, and fresh fruits. About the cockroaches thing, i asked the manager and owner there and they said that they had gotten a new pest control company and the health department said that they are ok on roaches.
