Egg rolls: good, crispy BBQ pork: moist and tasty BBQ pork fried rice: good Wonton soup: existent, didn't have veggies and was some wontons floating in salted broth. Almond Chicken: large portion, but the batter is very thick and the orangey sauce is pretty bland. It can with one full almond and some crushed up almonds (maybe two if you put all the pieces together). I wanted to like it, but was pretty disappointed. Sweet and Sour pork: barely any veggies, and the pork was a literal ball of dough (waaay too much dough). They also forgot the sweet and sour sauce, so that was very disappointing. I've been coming/brought to Peking House since my second birthday party. Think late 70's early 80's decor with beautiful wood carvings and bar off the entrance. An "Excellent" rating by King County Food & Health inspectors is not easy to obtain, especially for a Chinese restaurant with a diverse menu, so seeing that on the front door was a pleasant surprise. Most Chinese restuarants struggle to maintain a "Good" rating. Now... the food. It's OK. Not a destination place but a very good neighborhood spot. The dishes are a little heavy on the oil and light on flavor but if you have a mild palate and are not looking for fire-breathing Szechuan flavors, this place will suit you well. The fried egg noodles could have been fried more evenly to a crisp and too much gravy was used so if you didn't eat it quickly, all the noodles got soft and mushy very quickly. The fish had no fishiness and the shrimp were firm and plump with no soft sections (decomposing). Garlic Chinese broccoli wasn't over-cooked, but like most places, is still served whole so be careful chewing it thoroughly so you don't gag. Peking house used to be my go to Chinese restaurant. The last three times I've been there I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. The rice was dry, the stir fry very oily, and the deep fried items were over cooked and had way too much flour or breading on them. It seemed like someone literally threw the meal together. To top it off the service sucked. Our waitress spent most of her time answering the phones and getting the take out orders ready. Time to find a new joint. read more

Not impressive to look at inside or out, but we have found the food to be consistently excellent. My go-to is Mongolian Beef with 5 stars of spiciness, and I've never had a bad dish there--nor has anyone in my family. The one thing I'd say is that it's 50/50 as to whether there'll be music playing in the background. Doesn't sound like a big deal, until you wonder why you suddenly have the sensation that you're eating in a mausoleum. It's deadly quiet in there without the music, and you can tell diners are hesitant to talk to each other, for fear of being the loudest sound in the room. And sometimes...there's music in the background. My friendly suggestion to the owners would be to always make sure there's music playing in the background. Being fair, I heard the slam of the microwave door and the five minutes cooking, rendering my dish overcooked and tough before my server brought it to me. Inedible, due to tough battered , overcooked chicken in a horrible oily mayonnaise sauce. With a glass of wine, this came to 31.00 dollars for awful food. Today there were two young Asian men, who came in after me. They were laughing at how terrible their food was, making faces as they ate their food. I have no idea how this place gets more than one star. I recently moved to Shoreline and tried it for lunch because I thought it would be nice to have a Chinese place in the neighborhood. I sometimes enjoy the "Americanized Cantonese" type of food - it is what it is - and wasn't expecting genuine authentic anything. The woman who greeted and served me was very nice, no complaints on the service. I got the "Szechuan Chicken." It was some chicken and vegetables in a clear, cloyingly sweet orange sweet-and-sour sauce with a little cayenne pepper added to it. Pretty inedible. But it was cheap. The good- place is huge, fairly well kept, looks like a traditional Chinese restaurant (you can argue if it old rather than classic), bar was sounding very happening with all the noise, its generally busy, offer stiff drinks (cocktails), pretty reasonably good service. The bad- I ordered Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce. It was shown spicy. Not at all there. In fact was sweet. I would give them benefit of doubt but I had specifically asked for spicy, i should have been told it is sweet-spicy! I will come back to give it another try. I used to live in the area of Peking House a couple of decades ago and happened to be back in the neighborhood. I recall it was dark inside the restaurant and the food was good. Evidently the business was purchased by new owners about 2 yrs ago. The interior is dark and dingy, and the couch in the entry has black duct tape trying to cover a big tear in the seat - not a good first impression. My wife ordered Kungpau chicken and I had the General Tso's chicken. My wife reported her lunch dish was "okay." Mine however, as terrible. The only part with flavor was the sauce. The chicken chunks appeared to be an alternative meat. Each time I chewed a piece it would shred into something else. I forced down two pieces and spit out two more before just finishing the fried rice leaving the rest behind. This used to be a good restaurant with enjoyable food but it is no longer. Just thinking about my experience is making me gag a bit. There will not be a next time I'm afraid. I really had hoped for a better experience. read more

Super reliable spot for comfort-style American Cantonese food. Very kind staff, classic-casual Chinese diner atmosphere, and generous portions. My family and I have been coming here for several years and we have never experienced any of the unpleasant things other reviewers here have complained about. This is not the most "artisan" restaurant in the genre, but these guys are consistently friendly and open late when other restaurants shut down for holidays and slow nights. We usually dine-in here, but takeout is just as reliable. Generally, I consider it a good thing when I want to give restaurants awards. But the only award I can give to Peking House is the award for being the most generic Chinese-American restaurant I've been to. It's so generic that I don't even know how one can reach this level without trying. But apparently, it has been achieved, and I stumbled upon it. Now the challenge is to review the place without using the word "generic" anymore. They claim to do specialized Chinese food. Beijing? Hunan? Szechuan? I'm just not seeing it here. There's only one kind of Chinese food I see here, and it's the Americanized variety. Not saying that that's a good or bad thing, but it certainly doesn't look good when the menu doesn't look like it has anything authentic. Speaking of the menu, it lists the restaurant address as being in Seattle. It's actually thirty streets farther north in Shoreline. That difference will just make or break your visit, I know. Anyway, the menu given to me only had lunch specials, so I ordered a shrimp with broccoli. It sounds like no Chinese dish I've ever heard of, but I was starving and not in the mood for nitpicking like I am now. They also gave me the choice of a soup for an appetizer. Big surprise there. I got the hot and sour soup, and it was the most gen-- no... I'm not going to say it. The main course came after an eight-minute wait. Sure enough, the fact that the menu was so scarce with details was a good indicator that I could take the names literally. No descriptions were necessary, as the dish really was just shrimp with broccoli and some carrots thrown in. There were two fried wontons and some fried rice to the side, but that's hardly anything new to a Chinese restaurant, is it? I really don't know how to comment on the food itself, since it's of a pretty predictable quality. It's like the kind of Chinese food you find at the deli section of a supermarket. It's of buffet-level quality almost. While I nevertheless presume the food was made fresh, it still didn't turn out very good. Judging by the simplicity of the dish, I imagine it also doesn't take very much skill to make. I could probably come up with something of similar quality myself if given the materials. All right, so why is this restaurant so generic? Well, it seems that they're trying too hard. The decor follows a strong faux Chinese theme. They even include illustrations of the Chinese zodiac on their tables to educate you of their wonderful exotic culture. And it all just seems so contrived. This is the kind of Chinese restaurant that I would expect to find in the rural United States. For it to be located near Seattle of all places strikes me as highly unusual. I'm not so harsh on the rating because the food was cheap, but that's about all the place has going for it. read more

Since Seven Seas became Pandora, and cheap Chinese food place with a great dive bar was replaced by a place that does not serve food or alcohol for that matter (what a stupid law), it was time to find a new cheap Chinese food place and this is it. Great dive bar with chairs that have seen some substantial use. In the middle of it there is a microwave station whose significance and relevance is not immediately clear. Bartender is fast, caring and ready to bounce anyone if there is even slight sign of trouble, which there never were those three Saturday nights I hit this place. Drinks are stiff and there is a pool table and a flat screen TV indicating that some remodel was done. Jukebox could use some LMFAO or Avett Brothers, but U2, Santana, and Fleetwood Mac are well presented. Food is above average and beats Seven Seas fare at any time. My favorite and only dishes I had were sizzling rice soup, and Moo Shu chicken with Mandarin pancakes. We ordered large and it came in a biggest bowl I have ever seen, broth had extra veggies that I have ordered. The bartender drops sizzling rices pieces into the soup that then smokes up as rice hits the broth spreading great aroma. Moo Shu chicken was made with chicken breast only,and was served in a light sauce. I come back on a regular basis if not for food then for cheap billiards and great bar scene where people laugh and drink a lot. read more

The booths and walls are grimy and could use a good cleaning. I hate to see what the kitchen looks like. My husband ordered Kung Pao chicken ; it was bland and had tiny diced chicken bits. He sent it back and ordered beef fried rice that had large tender slices of beef. He enjoyed this much better. I had honey walnut shrimp which was actually good. Alas though, no rice included. We've eaten here before in the past and it was okay, but the restaurant recently changed management and ownership...AND WOW DID IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE! The food now is very fresh tasting with high-quality cuts of meat, crisp vegetables, perfectly cooked noodles, and vibrant spices. Everything is now cooked-to-order and it TASTES that way. All of our food was brought out steaming hot and delicious...even the house iced-tea was new, tasting freshly brewed and infused with honey. I drank FIVE glasses of it. The staff were attentive, very polite, engaging, and knowledgeable. While we were there, one of the wait staff brought over his iPhone to show us a photo of an exotic, very traditional dish that their new chef had created for the large party that was dining in the nearby room---We were fascinated and impressed! We got the watered down version, and would recommend to others that they come on Friday for the new stuff. *Burp, Burp* Yes. That would be the Beef with Black Bean and Oyster Sauce. It was decent and the portions were fair. A little on the salty side, with all the MSG. (This is a Chinese Restaurant, so what do you expect???).
