Great find in Fremont, Ohio! My daughter and her family recently moved to a nearby town and we have been having fun trying area restaurants to find new favorite places for options. Chinese food has eluded us - until Sunday. I had driven by Saturday night and noticed the parking lot and drive-thru were packed; always a good sign. We decided to try it for lunch on Sunday a few hours before a soccer game and we were thrilled from start to finish. Our party was two adults and two children so we ordered two entrees and an appetizer since the dinners include a cup of soup and an egg roll there was more than enough food for all of us. Appetizer 1: shrimp toast (pictured) - the elusive delight I have not been able to find in ANY Chinese restaurant in NW Ohio, ever. Light, crisp, hint of shrimp flavor and the kids loved them too. $2. Appetizer 2: (included with dinner) egg roll. Perfectly stuffed and fried; crisp but not oily at all and even the 4-yr old who has aversion to cabbage enjoyed the perfectly cooked filling and ate every bit of his half egg roll. Appetizer 3: (also included with dinner) soup. We had 2 appetizers so we chose won ton for the 8-yr old (declared it the best soup she has ever had) and egg drop for the 4-yr old (ate every drop, including drinking from the cup when it was all gone) Seriously - the above would make a great light meal. But the entrees - oh ... the meal continued this great trend. Dinner 1: Sweet and sour chicken. The dinners come with fried rice as default, which delighted the 4-yr old who was sharing this entree with his 8-yr old sister. It comes with vegetables, which seem to all be fresh vegetables, which was really delicious. (Even the water chestnuts seemed to be fresh vs coming out of a can) We did skip the tomatoes, though - the sauce is light and was really tasty. The chicken is white meat, hand-cut and lightly breaded with panko and perfectly fried. I will admit I helped them finish this entree. Dinner 2: Garlic shrimp / spicy - we asked for white rice. This was really good and the spice was very subtle. The sauce was on the thick side (lots of cornstarch, I'd guess) but very tasty and easy enough to avoid to make it a lighter meal. I enjoyed it with some steamed white rice (and stolen chicken from the other entree) and my daughter skipped the rice and had half a dinner roll instead. The menu is quite extensive and we grabbed a carry-out menu for next time if dining "in" is not going to fit into our schedule. There are several token "American" items on the menu - including french fries, grilled cheese, burgers, chicken tenders and the only odd thing I noted was every meal was served with a very large wheat yeast dinner roll. It was really good so I'm not complaining - it was just very unexpected and a little quirky; which I really like. The service was excellent. Our waitress was wonderfully attentive and the food was delivered very quickly and she was a delight, despite the very busy restaurant. The food was superior and a great value. Our total check was just under $26. Similar meals are typically over $40 for the 4 of us - so this was a wonderful surprise. Parking is available; but somewhat limited - if the lot is full park closeby even if you are in a hurry. There is plenty of seating inside and service is excellent. I may have already mentioned that ... While we were waiting to pay the check, the cashier was also handling the carry-out / drive-thru business but handled both queues with ease and efficiency. Orange chicken was extremely sweet. General tso's was extremely sweet as well. The flavor difference between orange chicken and the general tso's was non existent. Food quantity was very generous. Listen... first of all, the owner answering the phone is hilarious! If you aren't from around here, or if you are, and don't have a sense of humor, don't call. Have your order together, she doesn't have time to sit on the phone while you decide what you want, and then go cook your food, while simultaneously handing orders through the drive thru window. If you're easily offended, move along, that phone call isn't for you. If you like Chinese food and don't mind a short and to the point phone call to order your food, with someone who is busy, and snappy, you'll love it! We used to go in and eat as kids.. but haven't in a long time and since Covid she's only had drive thru.. which is fine. Not sure what the inside looks like anymore. I have loved this place since I was a kid. The portions are large and the meat is always tender and veggies fresh to the taste. My opinion may not be as valuable because I'm vegetarian and can only eat like, one dish: general tso's chicken (replace chicken with tofu). But I really do like this dish. The people are friendly and there's nice art on the tables and walls. Cons: I'm here now and have just discovered that it's a little cold. Would definitely recommend, for great food, good atmosphere, and incredible dinner, (not egg!) rolls. There are two Chinese restaurants in the small town of Fremont, Ohio: Peking and Golden Dragon. Both are excellent choices for Chinese food. My wife worked at Peking as a waitress some time back, so I have a somewhat biased view of this restaurant. That aside, this restaurant is a great place to eat. The place itself was originally the Fremont Moose Hall, so it's fairly large as restaurants go. There are two main sides that they will use, usually shutting down one side or the other except for the busier times. The decor is pleasant offering both booths and tables. They offer alcoholic beverages, but no sit-down bar. The food is very good, typical Chinese dishes. The egg rolls are good, but what sets Peking apart is including sweet dinner rolls with the meal. These rolls are huge and taste very similar to the ones I remember getting from my grandmother in Kansas. Their General Zao's chicken is a hit with my daughter, not too hot, but spicy enough. I like a dish, (can't remember the name!), that is a steak sliced on a bed of Chinese vegetables, served on a sizzling cast iron plate. The carry out is convenient with a drive up window in the front of the restaurant, but with carry out you have to order the dinner rolls to get them. read more

Just tried this place and here is our opinion. Wasted $20.00.... as my wife and I thought the food was gross. The only thing that was worth eating was the American made buns that came with the plate of ....what they call food. When we walked in only two tables had victims...I mean customers and some young Chinese kid was running from the front of the place into the back kitchen yelling into his phone. The person that was to take care of use ( wouldn't call her a server or a waitress ) was not polite nor did she have manors. Paid my bill but left 80% of the crap they service on the table. I'm a big fan of their chicken chop suey. In over 10 years of going the dish always tastes fresh. The fried rich compliments it quite well. For those that complain that the fried rice is bland, I can say without doubt; the flavor is on par with that I've had in China. I don't think I've ever had a dish here that I did not like. I love their chicken noodle soup. When I'm sick I like to order just the soup as it is tastier than anything you can find in a can. The left over dinner rolls make for great toast slices in the morning with a bit of cinnamon butter. I would opt for 5 stars but their egg rolls can be a little on the greasy side. How can they call this Chinese! Pork subgum had water logged shrimp chips chunks of chicken not slices, shaved pork, shrimp which was decent in a horrible bland sauce. Did have few veggies. First off, I have been eating here for 35 years. I would say that everything from the restaurant, the staff and the food were excellent! I don't know what happened after COVID but something changed with this place. The food went downhill big time! There is this older lady that answers your calls and is so VERY, VERY, VERY rude. My older uncle called down there and had a few questions about a dish. She took no time to answer. He told her that he hadn't been there for awhile and didn't know if they still had this particular dish. She repeated some other dish back to him and told him 10 mins. He said " No I didn't want that". She proceeded to tell him that she didn't care if he hadn't been in there for a long time and to just give her his order. Her tone was very condesending towards this older man. I took the phone and explained the dish to her. I realize that she's busy and is there to do a job but to be that nasty is uncalled for. So now for the food. He got breaded chicken breast with gravy along with rice and other items. The gravy on that chicken looked like wallpaper paste. It looked like leftover gravy that had been reheated, all thick and gloppy. Yuck, looked so unappetizing. The broth on the wonton soup looked and tasted like water. Clear as water broth. No taste. Terrible meal all around. I don't think that we will ever go back to Peking's. It's such a shame that a once great restaurant is so bad now. What happened to the nice man that owns this place and ran a tight ship and made sure that EVERYTHING was right?!! read more

Great restaurant you can eat lunch for around 5 bucks, great soups and dinner rolls and great service I eat their once a week

I grew up eating food from this restaurant and always loved it. However, over the course of two years I have on two different occasions found a bug in my food. This last time, (a roach looking bug 10-13-18) was enough to prompt me to contact the Mayor of Fremont, The Sandusky County Health Department, I-Team Investigates, The B.B.B., and reach out via social media. I wanted people to be aware of what may be going on in this restaurant. The Health Department has since reached back to me and notified me they sent two "Sanitary Technicians" to the restaurant to investigate the matter. Although, they did not state whether or not they had any findings. (The roach in my food was finding enough for me). If you choose to eat here, I recommend digging through your food first, as I almost entirely ate my meal before discovering the roach. Disgusted as I sit here thinking about it now. read more

I didn't care for the rice. I would have preferred white rice instead of the fried rice it came with. The sweet and sour sauce that is at the table was completely watered down to the point it was transparent. The egg rolls were big and actually really good. The egg drop soup had a weird taste to it. If I could make it zero stars I would. This was the most inedible Chinese food I hae eaten in all my life. The lo mein I ordered tasted like much and I couldn't swallow it because it was so bad. the moo goo gai pain was swimming in this nasty broth. you would hae thought then that at least the chicken in it would be moist, but it wasn't. The chicken in all 3 of our dishes was way oercooked and so dry. The egg rolls were dripping with grease in the bag and really gross. The only thing in our order that was partially ok was the fried rice, although that had raw carrots in it. Genuine Chinese! Best Chinese food in town..the only Chinese restaurant that I will eat at in Fremont. Great service- if you are in a hurry this is the place to go. The prices are fantastic- especially during lunch hours. I recommend the No.7 (Sweet and sour chicken) with chicken and rice soup, my husband gets the general Tso's, and my five year old son gets the kids boneless(almond) chicken.. this is one of the few places where he actually cleans his plate. If you are a general Tso's fan then go to Peking, they actually use the correct batter and sauce unlike Golden Dragon... and of course the yeast rolls are a must! read more

I always make it a point to eat here when I am back visiting for the holidays or even in the area. The bread that comes with the dine in meals is a great addition to the meal. Sweet and Sour sauce sets it apart for me. It is homemade a truly different than the normal red/orange jello sauce that you get at most Chinese restaurants. read more
