I was very underwhelmed by the food here. We order all of the recommended dishes and it just lacked flavor. I will say the short ribs were probably the best. Also, I was very disappointed with their wine menu. You'd except a good selection of wines at an Italian restaurant. Additionally, they require you to order via an app so it kind of downgraded the entire experience. They also cram a lot of tables together so it just felt very crowded in general when you sat down. I would not recommend the food, ambiance and experience. We skipped dessert and walked to Henrietta Red for dessert (worth the walk!). read more

We were rushed to order drinks, order food, and ultimately get out of the restraunt from the moment we were seated. Our server was never blatantly rude, but our Friendsgiving dinner for 4 life-long friends living in different cities was not given the space to have proper catch-up time at this restraunt. The food was fine, nothing that couldn't be made at home or found somewhere cheaper. The drinks were fine. The ambiance of Pelato is fine, the tables are extremely small and very close together. I was really impressed by Pelato! After seeing the restaurant go viral on local food creators' pages, I had to try it! The ambiance is cute and lively, plus I love the location in Germantown. Ordering is a bit unconventional and most customers choose to order via a QR code, which can be a bit finicky at times but worked fairly well for us. The cocktails were all really yummy - but a little on the pricy side for the size. The rest of the meal was reasonable and great to try as it was so family-style. Pretty much everything I tasted was delicious and there really isn't one thing I wouldn't recommend. However, my favorites (of course) were the alla vodka pasta - which was much cheesier/denser than I expected but delicious, and additionally the croquettes - which had a unique flavor different than the traditional style. The broccolini, chicken parm, and plain garlic bread were great and flavorful. We also tried the zucchini fries and cheesy garlic bread, which were solid but not show-stoppers like the other items. Good spot - excited to go back to try more things! They've only been open a week and it's clear they're still working some kinks out, but I'm glad they're here. All the plates are small so you really need like 3 or 4 for a person. I ordered a buncha stuff - so here are my honest reviews: Clams Oreganata - Just like you'd get in NY. This is probably one of the only places in Nashville to serve this, so I'm glad they get it right! Zucchini Rollatini - Absolutely perfect. You only get 3 little rollatinis, so you might wanna get two orders. Cheesy Garlic Bread - Disappointing. Tasted like a garlic bread your 12 year-old would make you. Dry, not buttery, and the bread was like a grocery store baguette. Meatballs - These were great, and the sauce (gravy!) is perfect to dip that dry garlic bread in. But the meatballs came out lukewarm which was a bummer. Chicken Scarpariello - This is one of my favorite dishes normally. But this $21 entree was two little bone-in thighs with some crumbled sausage and about 3 cherry peppers on top. Disappointing. Also - everything comes out in a random order - hopefully that's not a forever thing. While I ate my cold meatballs, the chicken scarp came out and got cold before I could get to it. Ok....Im very torn here. I had this via door dash. (Prob a mistake). That said, the folks of Nashville are starved for Real Italian. I get it.....Hot Chicken and BBQ are everywhere with one claiming to be better than the other. Im not a hater on either. Where i have to knock down the score.....is the "Small Plates". Translation hipster cool with a large price tag for what you get. Tonight I ordered the Chix Parm and $22 menu price and $24 DD you get 1 piece of Chix Parm. No bread, No Salad. Chix was Dry. However, Sauce and Cheese with the fresh Basil saved it. Im still scratching my Head on the Price. I recognize this is not the "Olive Garden". However, even at some of the Best in NYC $24 solo Chix is a bit harsh. Overall I give the Chix Parm a 7. On to the Pasta. Noodles are cheap. Love is not. Love is in this sauce. I whish there was more of it. Radiatori Vodka is a solid bite! However $19.00 for a SMALL portion of noodles is just not acceptable. to be fair, I was not expecting Bucca di Beppo size portions. However, the cost benefit and ROI are just not there for this place. I have to say, while a good Italian. The Hype may be just what it is. HYPE. Good social influence tipped the scale on me trying this place. Im sure the inside vide is great. However, I was let down by the Hype and the Price. What makes it better? Even small side salad and im sure they have some house made banging Bread. Serving Chix Parm by itself cheapens the experience for what you would expect. So we exit with $24 Chix Parm & $19 for the Radiatori Vodka Brings us in at $43 for 2 "Small plates. I will say this......Pelato is not hiding who they are....Small Plates is what they have held to and what they provided. Overall Solid flavor. So I have been living in the neighborhood for years and this place has been different restaurants throughout the years and they all failed so I was hoping Pelato would make it. Was so disappointed. I came here for my birthday celebration. I was so shocked about the portion for the price we paid. The only good thing here is the vodka pasta but at almost $20 a plate you would assume it's a full plate especially with no protein just sauces and pasta. However it was like 3 bites I am not even joking. The manager said it was because they are trying to be "different" by offering small bites, but I assure you this is not the kind of different you want especially not charging this much for small bites. My wife asked about a candle for my birthday and the server said we had to buy something to put it on. We were forced to buy their donuts in a paper bag for a high price and they brought the candle out in a shot glass. At the end of the night, I laughed watching 4 girls cutting a small piece of potato to share. Yeah never again. read more

Two words: Italian. Tapas!!! At first, it was hard to believe that two of my favorite things could be magically combined into one place. Despite my doubts, Pelato pulls this off incredibly. As a pun-lover, I appreciated the quirky "pasta" pun signs, as well as the enchanting lighting and familiar setting. The food itself was fantastic - certainly some of the best Italian I've had in Nashville (I'm also a sucker for family-style restaurants). Some highlights of our meal were the potato croquettes, fusilli al funghi misti, and chicken parmigiana. Long story short: each dish was drool-worthy. However... I am fervently against online ordering/QR code menus, and this was the staple element of my dining experience. All of our dishes arrived out of the traditional order (for example, chicken parm arrived before drinks and appetizers), and, when it came to paying, trying to split up the food and drinks became so difficult that we eventually gave up on evening things out. Since no waiter took our order, the experience overall felt a bit impersonal. I would return for the food and the vibes, but not for the service. read more

We waited 15 minutes from being seated to get anyone over to our table to say hello, offer water, etc. During the meal, the waiter took our bottle of wine when it was not empty, was very slow to check on us, and brought us two drinks that we didn't ask for and charged us for them. Unfortunate experience with the owners wife. Food would have been good (we loved their NYC restaurant years ago and Luogo), but one entree came out and the other one still hadn't come out after 20+ minutes. The owners wife came over, and Instead of offering an apology and taking significant charges off the bill, she came over to our table in a huff and offered to comp the missing entree and it would be out in 4 minutes. We expressed our disappointment and understood it was a busy night, but that we were bummed by the experience. The conversation escalated into the owners wife storming off after yelling at us that "20 minutes isn't long in a busy restaurant." She then went on to say they were going to offer us free dessert. When I said we didn't want that, we just wanted our original food, she sarcastically screeched "reallyyyyyy." All I can say is 20 minutes IS long between entrees and we had to flag our waitress down just to ask what was going on. Avoid this restaurant unless you want your night ruined. Overall pretty disappointing. Didn't love the ambience it was pretty open, looked like a cafeteria with lights too bright. Service was good, fast and attentive.We split eight small plates and dessert between the four of us with mixed results. Generally three very good, two or three below average and the rest just OK. The average price of the small plates was roughly $18 each so we expected the quality and taste to be much better , just not a very good value. 9/23/2023 was my first encounter dining at Pelato. Italian food is one of my favorites and Pelato does not disappoint. The service was excellent; the staff were all consistently cheerful, friendly and above all, efficient. The quality and flavor of the food was TOP NOTCH. I have been to many Italian restaurants but Pelato put them all to shame. If you like Italian food at all, you simple must dine here, and the sooner the better. The best part? The dessert. Five stars isn't enough. We had the chocolate and the salt caramel gelato's and I have never had a better dessert in my life. Completely blown away! The ambience was great, although rather noisy due to all the conversation. But hey- food this good, people are going to talk about it so the noise was no surprise. I have waited far too long to submit this review. My fiance and I visited Pelato maybe 3 weeks ago. We used to be regulars when the location was St. Stephen so we were very curious (perhaps even wary) to see what the location had become... Now, let me tell you...and I'm really not exaggerating when I say this...we had what must have been the single best meal we have had all year. Every single thing was just top notch. 10 out of 10. I'm really not even being hyperbolic here. Their zucchini strings were wonderful (I'm not always the most veggie-centric guy but I was grabbing handfuls). The garlic potatoes were truly astounding (crunchy outside, steamy hot inside, served with an ultra-garlic sauce very similar to a Middle Eastern toum...maybe bring a mint for afterwards but good lord it was good). The polenta & bolognese is one of the best things I have ever eaten (comes out covered in bubbling cheese and the whole thing is incredibly rich and savory). Chicken parmigiana was exactly what you would hope for from the classic with an extra little crunch. The campanelle alla boscaiola was unlike anything I've had before - a great blend of flavors and very creamy/rich. Calamari was also very good but maybe didn't stand out as much as the polenta or the potatoes did in my eyes (it's served with a pesto sauce that is interesting, but I caught myself mostly dipping the calamari in the toum-like garlic sauce or the red sauce with the chicken parmigiana). We ended things with the dark chocolate bundino to-go...crushed that at home as I became one with the couch. What a meal. We had drinks as well but honestly I don't recall them as distinctly...a very normal but solid pecan old fashioned and then my fiance did really enjoy her boozy root beer float (although I believe it may have gone by another name). Beyond all of that, the service was spectacular. Professional, fast, and incredibly friendly. I'm kicking myself because we did get the name of our server but I have since forgotten it. Hailey? Maybe? Well, anyways, she was just wonderful and helped elevate our entire experience further. Manager also came over to check on us - I told him most of what I'm telling you now. Great guy. Anyways, this is now one of my favorite spots in town. It's also got a good little date-night ambiance going on, but still bright enough and pleasant. The only reason I remembered to write this review now is because we are debating if we go back tonight! Much love to everyone working at this wonderful establishment. I've seen quite a few restaurants come and go from this location but hope Pelato stays for a while. The concept is a bit different for Italian cuisine - offering tapas style dishes meant to share.
