This place is truly remarkable. We're so glad a local recommended it to us. We went our first morning in the area and ordered the vegan tofu scramble and a fish eggs benedict. While we were waiting, we started to see the fruit sampler come out to other tables and were convinced to order it as well. At $5, it's a steal. There was fresh lilkoi, papaya, star fruit, bananas, pineapple... all so tasty and straight the owner's farm. You can tell by the freshness. We started talking to our server and quickly learned that everything in the restaurant comes from the farm. The sourdough toast -- the base for the eggs benny -- is also homemade. We were so bowled over by the tastes and freshness here that we went out of our way to come back the next day and try different things, all of which were outstanding. On our way out the second day, our server from the first day came over and gave us some great local touring suggestions from the area. It was a beautiful gesture. My only wish was that the coffee were a bit stronger, but as an east coast native, my coffee is never dark enough. ;-) Seriously, get to Pele's. It's such a gem. read more

French toast apple ..didn't taste very apple-like so a tad disappointing, but ultimately still good. My husbands eggs looked great but the hash browns were a bit overcooked for our liking. This place was by far the best place we ate at on the island and we explored ALL of Hawaii. I order the Mango Blintzes and they were so tasty almost like a better crepe. We also go the fruit platter and it was a great way to try their different fruits. This is the perfect garden to table food. Do me a favor - you ever pass by PAHOA, Hawaii (the big island) go see Casey and all the Aloha he has to offer! Just our second morning on the island, curious and hungry, we were fortunate to choose this little cafe. What a wonderful and amazing experience! First we sat down in the backyard patio and took in all the color of the place. Bright and airy we had a hard time choosing a dish. Many caught our eyes and tummies and we wanted local so went with the Hawaiian pork eggs Benedict. So yummy!! The pork and how it was prepared was mouth watering. The sauce amazing and the Ube (purple sweet potato) was such a treat! Also had some sides of local mushroom sautéed which made it all work amazingly!! After getting our meal Casey the owner came out and greeted us. How was extremely welcoming, inquisitive, and overall a light beaming soul. He invited the chef to come out - I had to say Mahalo. :) another employee came out and did a couple songs on his guitar. Some great jammin! I normally don't give 5 stars for a place until I have eaten there at least twice. For Pele's Kitchen I am making the rare exception. We found Pele's Kitchen on Yelp searching for Vegan food and Pele's was one of the listing. Wondering in to the 'time-warp' atmosphere I wasn't sure what to expect. We were greeted instantly and told to seat anywhere. Looking over the menu there were a several vegan options. Without hesitation I knew I wanted to try the Jungle Breakfast with a side of hash browns. When the food was delivered I knew I was going to be so full. The jungle Breakfast was loaded with fruits and fresh vegetables (black beans, purple island yams, yellow rice and a warm tomato salsa, sprouts, papaya, cucumber, pineapple, orange slices, pomelo and longan fruit) and the side of hash browns (I thought) were enough for two. Let's talk about the hash browns. OMG! I have never had hash browns where the entire plate was crispy edges of potato with a softer center. PERFECT. Heaven. Paradise found :) Next trip (tomorrow morning) will be Ulu Waffles made from bread fruit and hash Browns. Or maybe I should just order hash browns. As an update; second time here and still 5 stars. Everything (for the most part) is locally sourced. My friend ordered the tofu scramble with hash browns and a nice arrangement of fresh fruit. Lots of food. I ordered from the side(s) menu eggs and saffron rice. Glad I did as it was just enough. Our waiter brought us a side of sun dried tomatoes made in house and they were delicious. Then the owner kept bringing us different types of local fruit - persimmon and Jamaican lilikoi. If you never had Jamaican lilikoi you got to try it's much sweeter and tastier than the regular. Then the owner told us to go check out the outdoor dining and gardens along side the building. Just some table and chairs amongst the gardens. Good if your with a group of more than 4. He didn't even know if he could seat us and another server told us to just grab a table. Can't tell you if the food was good because mine was cold. My daughter in law got her food after the rest of us were done eating. And I had to flag the server to get that! He basically took our order, brought 2 of the 3 meals and vanished. This place is the best! Homegrown, relaxed atmosphere with music on the weekends. It was by best breakfast since being diagnosed with Celiac 4 years ago. We ate here twice during our trip. The food is the perfect breakfast, delicious waffles and pancakes made with local ingredients, fresh fruit on each plate, and yummy egg dishes and meat (but lots of vegan and veggie options, too).
