Very strange stuff everywhere (like dolls) and an unfriendly man (owner?) helped us. We tried the almond biscotti which was very good with a crunchy exterior and soft interior & not too sweet. My husband said the chocolate mousse tart was just fine. My mom and I liked the walnut cinnamon sugar horn things, but the sesame cookies tasted like they had anise in them which was odd to me. read more

I've been going to this place for a few years now. My father used to own a pastry shop years ago and at that time he had top reviews from The NY Times (which back in the early 80s was a big deal). Delicious and fresh, everything from biscotti and rainbow cookies to the cheesecake and fantastic eclairs. It's a quirky space and quite refreshing in a world of glitzy and overpriced bakeries. The owner is helpful and quite nice and he truly cares that the quality is top notch. He's a bit quiet and it's a shame to see other reviewers complain about him. The prices here are also so reasonable, while it's understandable that so many independent places have had to raise their prices it's refreshing to still get a great deal. Cash only so be prepared. Excellent bakery right there on 5th Ave. in Pelham Manor, New York. I've tried their rainbow cookies, brownies, Napoleans, macarons, cheesecake, and donuts- all of which have been excellent. They don't take credit card and so keep it old school but so is the case with other establishments in the area. Be sure to carry cash with you. Owner can be a little grumpy at times but he's an excellent baker. His mother is a sweetheart and tends to be generous with the portions or adds an extra here and there with a wink and "Come back again" Great place. read more

I love this bakery. The cookies are to die for. The pignoli cookies in particular. I buy my mother a box of them every time I am going to visit her and she couldn't enjoy them more. We just came back from a lunch in Arthur Avenue where we went to one of the famous bakeries. We tried to eat those cookies after dinner and instead we threw them out because they were so much worse than the cookies at the Pelham Bakery. I was looking here to see the business hours this morning to see if they were open so I could swing by and get a danish and then I saw all these negative reviews. I don't get it!!! I think the owner is warm and professional. I'm not sure what the other customers expect but I've never had a problem with him. I love seeing how all of his children come and lend a hand during the busy holidays. We are so lucky to have this bakery here. Even with the lovely bakery counter at Diccicos, I always make sure I get my baked goods at Pelham Bakery...it's just THAT much better than any other place. read more

I have been here a few times and I agree with Ben that the owner is not "friendly" at all. I just called today to ask information on how to go about helping out for a bake sale at our school to raise funds for the Typhoon victims in the Philippines. He did not even bother to ask what the fundraising is for. Just completely shut me down. They will not get a penny from me from now on as well as my friends. read more

I agree with the other reviewers, the owners seemed extremely rude. Didn't crack a smile or seem warm and welcoming in the least, which you would expect from a mom and pop bakery. However, that wasn't what prompted me to write this review. There was something the owner's mother did which REALLY made my skin crawl. There was an older gentlemen being helped when I came in who was clearly a regular. He ordered some pignoli cookies and the owner's mother used her bare hands to place them in the box. I literally dry heaved because I could only imagine what was going on with my canolis that were being prepared for me out of sight. Made me feel like he was licking cream off his fingers as he filled them. YUCK. They should know better in this day and age. BTW, yes she was also handling money with those same bare hands. This place is a gem....everything that I have had from here is wonderful. Their cakes are always fresh. Love their selection of cookies and pastries. Its an old school shop but i think that's what makes it so nice. Owners are very nice and really seem to appreciate the business. read more
