oooooh, how exciting it is to be the first person to review dr. lim !! although why AREN`T people reviewing him ?? i know yelp might not be the first place people go to when looking for a dentist or something along those lines, but still.. top-notch businesses and the people who run/are employed at those businesses should be given praise for their work [and vice-versa for sucky businesses] ! you know how people say you never know a good thing until it`s gone ? yeah, well.. since i`m no longer a student, i`m no longer covered under my mother`s insurance, so i haven`t had dental insurance for about half a year now and it sucks ! i`m supposed to have my 6-month cleaning soon, but alas, that is going to have to be put on hold until i find a full-time job with benefits ! sigh. i miss dr. lim ! he`s been my dentist since i moved to campbell in the middle of third grade. honestly, i can`t remember even going to the dentist back then, but i also can`t remember ever having a dentist that wasn`t dr. lim, so.. my point is that i`ve had him for many, many years now. and if you read just one line out of this entire review, read this: **DR. LIM IS GREAT and i HIGHLY RECOMMEND him for anyone in the area.** he`s just one of those genuinely good and kind-hearted people and an excellent dentist, of course. he`s professional and good at what he does, yet he`s able to put you at ease and make you smile--a definite plus when you`re at the dentist`s office. he makes conversation with you, and not just about the weather or how your day has been, but about things that are actually relevant to your life. i know you can`t exactly be having lengthy conversations at the dentist`s office, but it`s cute/nice that he tries ! he also lets you know what`s up with your teeth/gums in the easiest way possible and makes sure you understand everything. and my teeth aren`t exactly the greatest, but he`s never made me feel bad or embarrassed about them. his comments/advice has always been constructive, yet kind. i mean, i really don`t know what else you could possibly want in a dentist.. the rest of the staff that works here is also quite nice and hospitable. and i think it`s cute that they send me happy birthday postcards every year. i mean, yeah, it`s one of those standard "happy birthday from your friends at dr. lim`s office" or something like that, but i`ve always thought it was sweet. going to the dentist is never really anyone`s favorite thing to do, but at least make sure you have a dentist you LIKE and feel comfortable with. i don`t know what i`m going to do when/if i ever permanently move out of the area and have to find a new dentist ! read more

I've been a patient at Pacific Dental Excellence for as long as I can remember living in Mountain View -- about 7 years now. Dr. Lim, his partner Dr. Sarah, his assistants Joyce, Mirabel and the rest of the staff are just awesome. Friendly, personal, professional, and caring at the same time. As a side note, I've also found the whole staff to be *extremely* gentle when they're working in your mouth. The facilities are top notch. Even their chairs are really comfortable. So, here's a quick story about Dr. Lim's excellence in cosmetic dentistry, too. I had some pretty badly chipped front teeth from a basketball accident for years when I first visited Dr. Lim's office. Other dentists I'd had before I moved to the area had told me that attempting to repair it would leave me dissatisfied as the repairs would stain, the coloring of the composites probably wouldn't match my front teeth, and they'd probably just fall out after a couple years. Basically, the message was: unless you're going to step up to full veneers, don't bother. When I visited Dr. Lim for the first time, he asked me about the background on the chipped teeth and was really surprised I hadn't had them repaired yet. He said he was sure he could do a fine job matching the color, that he'd done a lot of work like this before and he thought he could probably get pretty good adhesion with his composite work. I decided I had nothing to lose and had him try to fix my chipped teeth. 7 years later, the original composite repair looks great and hasn't needed any maintenance. Thanks! read more

Best dentist I have ever been to-- and I've been to a lot of dentists. Great location with parking and street parking. Office staff was super friendly and inviting, equipment was cutting edge and office was really nice inside. Dr. Lim was super knowledgable and conservative in his approaches, which I appreciated. I asked about removing old filings (i think i have 4 or 5) and he recommended I only remove 2 of them and reseal them. He used a laser to remove them, which was great since it didn't need novocaine and i couldn't feel a thing and then refilled them before my cleaning. Goodbye drill with novocaine! And the hygienist that took care of my cleaning was excellent. Now I just need to convince my husband to come here too :) read more

He has helped me with routine cleanings, whitenings, fillings (and replacing old fillings), and more advanced procedures like a placing a crown and eventually an implant. He has outstanding training. When I searched yelp to find Peninsula Dental Excellence, I was surprised that any dentist could have a 5-star rating. So, I naturally had to try them out and see if they lived up to their name. When I got there they were super friendly, had up-to-date technology and best of all great dental service. I am typically quite uncomfortable at Dentist offices after having numerous bad Dentists in the past. However, Dr Lim made me feel extremely comfortable, explained all the procedures to me, and explained showed me pictures from throughout the procedure afterward. He has a special additive in the freezing medicine that he uses that makes the freezing process extremely painless. He also asks if you are OK and comfortable multiple times throughout the procedure. He is quite expensive though, that is the only downside. However, with the new technology and great service it is something that I am willing to pay for. read more

I am so glad that I found a dental practice that is so professional, warm and has such a great customer service. I have done all sorts of work from cleaning to implants. They have high tech equipment. They try to make it as painless as possible. Everybody that I have dealt with - Sonia and Libby, patient coordinators, and Dr Lim's dental staff - have been very friendly and professional. Scheduling appointments is easy and they send you reminders by email and text if you want. I used to hate going to the dentist. Well, I don't dread it anymore. He was not only able to correct the mistakes done by my previous dentist, but also, do so with kindness and expertise. Dr. Lim and his technicians give you their professional opinion and recommendations but wouldn't insist if patient doesn't want to go for it - they would listen to what you want to say. I have a sensitive teeth and they always work gentle during the regular teeth cleanings. I am visiting relatives in Mountain View, and today a huge chunk of one of my molars fell out suddenly. Dr. Lim is my daughter-in-law's dentist, and he agreed to see me right away. I was in and out of the office with a temporary filling in half an hour. Dr. Lim took x-rays and told me the tooth would need further treatment when I got back home, but took care of the immediate problem with grace, gentleness, and lots of information about what was going on - all at a reasonable cost, and for someone who could not be an ongoing patient. If I ever move to the area, there is no doubt about who I will ask to be my dentist! read more

I have been going to Dr. Lim for several years. I am highly satisfied with all his care. My husband had been going to a pediatric dentist for over 50 years, and need a new dentist when his previous one retired. I recommended he give Dr. Lim a try. Surprisingly, he only needed a few crowns and some fillings replaced. Dr. Lim has all the most current, fancy equipment and was very good about explaining all the processes. It is unbelievable that Dr. Lim has 30 reviews at 5 stars each. That is very fishy. I went in to his office at the end of December to fulfill my insurance coverage for a last minute cleaning. I didn't discuss with this dentist that I had just gotten a clean bill from my normal dentist 2 months prior as I wanted a fresh opinion as long as I was there anyway. I was first questioned and almost bullied into getting x-rays. I made it very clear to the hygienist and dentist that I had no current problems with my teeth and that I was in no need of x-rays as I was up to date with them. After getting that out of the way, the dentist was still very annoyed that I wasn't getting x-rays done. I could see why as he had all the latest up to date technology so apparently needed x-rays done to pay his office bills. He then proceeded to tell me I needed a new crown as he was basically trying to pull it off my tooth, but of course since he didn't have x-rays he couldn't tell how much decay was going on. He also told me I had 3 cavities. He showed me them on his close up cam. Of course they looked ominous in the close up cam. He failed to mention that there was no decay in these cavities. He even showed me the infrared red light emitting from one of the cavities. Originally he said I had 3 cavities in 2 different teeth. By the time I left though it was 3 different cavities in 3 different teeth to get my dental quote fee up to $1,823.00 which included the new crown. I questioned all of this naturally. So I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Pyon, my real dentist, in Palo Alto who just did a check up yesterday (3 weeks after Dr. Lim's check-up). Dr. Pyon said I have no cavities despite giving him the heads up about what Dr. Lim said! I don't need a new crown either. What a relief. Dr. Lim is a scam. The second I walked into the office I was treated like a 2 year old. I know my teeth and I know a dentist trying to make money. There is no doubt this office was equipped with the latest technology but there are bills to pay to get this latest technology. Don't fall for this dentist. If you want a reputable dentist go to Dr. Pyon in Palo Alto. He never prescribes unnecessary treatments. read more
