    Pomegranate Brussels Sprouts! Yum
    Jeff H.

I'm a local and haven't been here in over 10 years!! The ambiance is amazing, service impeccable and tonight they had tilefish, personally one of my favorite fishes of the sea. The pomegranate brussel sprouts were amazing and not oily. This is one of the best spots for she crab soup as well. I'm definitely coming back more often just for the soup and Brussels!

The service was outstanding although at first they did try to get us to go to their other venue which was next door (forgot the name)- the next couple did go there. We just said no. Anyway, came with a couple who had come here throughout their childhood and wanted the coconut cake. I had a piece too - it was good but not THAT good. Place was way stuffy for me - lots of older folks. This was never on our radar and we went for our friends.

Came because this is regarded as the best dessert in the world. It was good. I've had better coconut cake in Hawaii. So it's not even the best coconut cake in the world, let alone best dessert in the world.

Where do I begin...what a treat! From the quaint and intimate table by the lively bar area, yet still immersed in Charleston ambience. Our steaks were cooked to perfection with a side of roasted garlic that was by far the favorite touch to our meal. Our servers were great with top tier service. If you are in Charleston pls make it a point to dine at the Peninsula Grill. You won't be disappointed! P.S. Leave room for the famous coconut cake.

Came here for dinner, and this was actually where my boyfriend proposed. The staff (specifically our waiter Paul), and the manager (Jess) were so incredibly kind and welcoming to us from the moment we walked in- they went above and beyond to make the moment special for us. The setting was romantic and beautiful both inside and in their courtyard. The food was outstanding - particularly the beef carpaccio, oysters, skirt steak and coconut cake were out of this world. Fresh, flavorful, and balanced for every dish. I thought the steak was perfect on its own without any sauce however they had a lovely selection. I also really enjoyed the sides of shipped potatoes and local mushrooms. Truly a lovely restaurant for any occasion or a delicious dinner. We will certainly be returning here!

We went here for a family dinner, and Peninsula Grill does not disappoint! From the moment you walk in, the vibe is elegant and welcoming. The service was excellent, but the food was the real star. Everything we ordered was prepared perfectly and the presentation was stunning. They really pay attention to the little details here. Highly recommend for a special night out in Charleston

After 3 days of southern meals, I needed a palette cleanse. Popped in here after walking around locally and menu shopping. This restaurant is in The Planters Inn and easily accessed. Did not have a huge appetite due to a family brunch of typical southern biscuits and gravy but was longing for greens and a bit finer offering. I had (2) starters as my meal: Seared Foie Gras - Macadamia Bread, Smoked Pineapple Chutney, Macadamia Cinnamon butter, Pickled Pineapple and Minus 8 Vinegar Artisanal Greens Salad - Brown Butter Sweet Potato, Stilton Blue Cheese, Radish, Speck Ham, Toasted Pecan, Pomegranate Vinaigrette I did not imagine that I would find such bursts of flavor in this beautifully plated salad but I savored every bite. Simple, quality ingredients with a smear of sweet potatoes with a spattering of pomegranate seeds and stilton was delightful! The foie gras with the macadamia bread was rich and delectable. Paired with the sweetness of the macadamia bread and chutney and then the vinegar for another flavor profile was memorable. Dining on the patio in the garden with a slight breeze and the gas lit lanterns was wonderful and encouraged me to slow down a bit and just enjoy. Will admit this was my favorite meal of my trip to Charleston by a country mile. The service, as you would expect was impeccable.

Bring back the veal shop. It was the best steak on your menu and a showstopper. It set you apart from the traditional steakhouse fare at other restaurants.

My reviews often contain the phrase "price sets expectations". At just a few dollars shy of $300 for two people to eat (2 salads, 2 NY Strip steaks, 1 dessert, 3 drinks) BEFORE tip... Peninsula Grill set high expectations and pretty much nailed it. I say this as someone who is very happy to open a wallet wide but demands a lot when I do. We went on a Tuesday night and it was pretty full, but Ally the sommelier seated us immediately. Our server David was great and the ninja staff kept water full. Food came out with good timing. I had the artisanal greens salad, the girlfriend had the summer salad (it's not a menu item, it was a special). Both were amazing. We both went for the New York Strip steak, medium rare, and it was done perfectly, seasoned nicely so you could taste the meat, the steak sauce was good. Yukon whipped potatoes were amazing but the serving size was small just for one person, never mind sharing. Asparagus with béarnaise was on point and definitely shareable unless you both just love asparagus and could eat a pound each. Ultimate Coconut Cake did not disappoint either. Keep in mind, this is a VERY formal restaurant complete with dress code. They relax it a bit for the summer, but I wore slacks, nice shirt, dress shoes, and a jacket and I was NOT out of place. Is this my favorite Charleston steak house? No, I still think Burwell's is #1 so far. Is this a close #2? Yes, I think so. Despite it being more formal than Oak or Hall's (I have not been to Hall's in Charleston but I've been in Columbia), I felt more relaxed... tables had more elbow room, room was quieter, etc. When I am spending this kind of money on a meal, I don't want to have to shout to my girlfriend over the sounds of a drunken bachelorette party like I have had to do at Oak, or try enjoy a meal while having a baby stroller crammed against me (State & Union... on VALENTINES DAY!), etc. So I am I am pretty happy with this experience and will likely return. It was nothing but gobs of fat in our bowls over mashed potatoes. Hardly any meat, tasted a little sweet. I was told the veggies would be squash, zucchini and broccoli when I asked what veggies come with it. Well, no broccoli or squash, they used eggplant. I HATE eggplant. So really I had about two bites of meat and a little mashed potatoes with two pieces of zuchini. We both intensely disliked it. Not to mention we didn't realize it would all be served together, meat on top of mashed potatoes in a bowl with the veggies mixed in. We don't like making a scene so we ate it in silence with me leaving half my bowl full of the fat and the eggplant. We had ordered a charcuterie board to share, so I ate a good portion of that as my main dinner. Also, the portion of food for the price was not a lot. The bowls were kind of small. The price is very expensive. $200 for four people. I gave it three stars because my meal may not have been to my satisfaction but my other son loved his lamb burger-otherwise it may have gotten two stars. I'm not sure if I will try it again. Probably not. First impressions can really make a difference. One glass of wine was $16 dollars here when they are around $8 dollars everywhere else so we paid $32 dollars for 10 ounces of wine. Maybe because it is downtown on Market Street? It was a little too expensive for sub-par food in our opinion. The one day I decided to eat Gluten and it was a meal not worthy of my pain that I always experience after. The Vibe of the place was nice. Rustic yet elegant. Nice tables with tablecloths. I loved the atmosphere. Just wish the food was better. Can't say I'd recommend it if you are visiting Charleston. There are too many other great places downtown to try. But who knows, you may like it if you try the burger. Or if you like fat.. by all means get the beef ribs. My son ate his fat.. he said if he didn't eat the fat he wouldn't have had much of a supper. But he can tolerate fat. I cannot.

The dining room is beautiful, and the ambiance is excellent. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality level or price point of the restaurant. When entrées range from $65-$70 for fish, $80+ for steaks, and side dishes approach $14 or more, guests reasonably expect an elevated and attentive dining experience. Throughout the evening, our server seemed rushed and disengaged. Despite our efforts to be friendly and conversational, interactions felt brief and transactional. A drink order was delivered incorrectly, and rather than improving as the meal progressed, the service became increasingly impersonal. We never felt particularly welcomed or valued as guests. A special night out with a $300-$400 check should feel memorable for the right reasons. While the food and atmosphere were good, the overall experience fell short of what we have come to expect from restaurants operating in this category and at this price level. We are glad we gave it a try, but in the future we'll likely choose other Charleston-area restaurants that deliver a more polished and hospitality-focused experience when entertaining family and friends from out of town.
