I was able to snag a reservation at Wild Common about a month before our Charleston vacation and chose it for my birthday dinner. As someone who loves chef-driven tasting experiences, I was excited to try it, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt beautiful, intimate, and welcoming. We arrived a little early, and the host invited us upstairs to relax while we waited, where we enjoyed some delicious cocktails before being seated. This is definitely a special-occasion restaurant. We sat at the chef's counter, which gave us a great view of the kitchen, and our bartender was incredibly knowledgeable when helping us choose drinks throughout the evening. Every dish was thoughtfully balanced and timed perfectly--I never felt rushed and had plenty of time to enjoy each course. I had noted on our reservation that I cannot eat beans, and the team not only remembered but modified an entire dish for me without hesitation. That level of attention to detail made the experience feel even more special. For the quality of the food, service, and ambiance, I felt the cost was absolutely worth it. Solo Diner Review (April 2026): I was very excited to try out this newly recognized Michelin Star in Charleston on my last visit to the city. I made a reservation at the chef's counter -- as a solo diner I'm especially fond of dinner and a show. It is worth noting that only a few of the counter seats actually have a good view of the kitchen, so make sure you add that request if it matters to you. The standard tasting menu is super reasonably priced for a Michelin and I decided to treat myself to both of the substitution upgrades and the wine pairing. Stand out flavors were the duck prosciutto to start (though the scale could have been smaller as the deliciously crumbly tart crust made it difficult to eat this without it falling apart), the seared scallop with billi bi, and the Kagoshima A5 wagyu (which was generously portioned!) I also found the wine pairing unpredictable and spot on! My favorite was the Greek Rose paired with the scallop! I was there on a Wednesday night and all diners were dressed in business casual or southern chic. Bathrooms are spacious and immaculate with wine counters and fragrant soaps. I'm not sure I'd always give this 5 stars -- if I had just had a view of the liquor bottles at the bar would I have enjoyed my experience as much? The interior of the space is beautiful with a lantern lit walkway and soaring ceilings with artful projections on the wall. I'm sure it's lovely for a special date night or celebratory dinner. I'd definitely recommend Wild Common to friends in Charleston, but I might try a different spot the next time I'm in town. read more

Walking in, the space immediately feels special -- almost like a beautifully curated event venue rather than a traditional restaurant. Every detail is intentional and elevated without feeling stuffy. It's an intimate space, but the tables are thoughtfully spaced so you never feel crowded. Perfect for a celebration. Caleb greeted us right away and led us to our high-top table. From the start, he set the tone for the evening -- explaining how the tasting menu works, what decisions we'd need to make, and what to expect as the night progressed. He was sharp, knowledgeable, and effortlessly personable. Truly, every restaurant should have a Caleb. (And every guest should be lucky enough to have one!) Wild Common is absolutely a special-occasion restaurant. The pomp and circumstance of the service -- the pacing, the presentation, the storytelling -- elevates the entire experience beyond just "dinner." Now let's talk about the food. Holy. Cow. It's a Chef's Tasting menu, so the only decision we had to make was between the Australian Wagyu and the NY Strip -- obviously we had to try one of each. Both were outrageous in the best possible way. Perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth bites that you think about long after you leave. There were five courses plus beautifully executed "snacks" to start, and we opted for the wine pairing with each course (highly recommend). Every pour complemented the dish in a way that made each bite even more exciting. The menu changes weekly, which somehow makes it feel even more special -- like you're part of a moment that won't be repeated exactly the same way again. I almost feel like words are inadequate when it comes to Orlando Pagán's food. The balance of flavor and texture is genius-level. Creative without being pretentious. Refined without losing warmth. He is clearly doing exactly what he was born to do. We were lucky enough to meet Chef Pagán when he personally served one of our courses. Not only wildly talented, but also humble, kind, and incredibly personable. That interaction alone made the night even more memorable. This was one of the most amazing culinary experiences I've ever had! While in town for work, I decided to go out and find a restaurant I haven't been to before. I stumbled across this one with great reviews, it's tucked in a neighborhood not too far from historic Charleston. I came here last minute, not really knowing what I was walking into. I was pleasantly greeted by the host which ended up being able to work me into the 7 o'clock prefix menu at the bar (I was dining alone). Everything placed in front of me was an absolute work of art and tasted like Narnia! I also agreed to do the wine pairing, which I definitely recommend. Everything was perfection.. The service was impeccable! Every single server, host, sommelier and chef were so kind to me and so attentive. The lighting the atmosphere, getting to watch the chefs create, seeing how many people in the kitchen had to work as a team to be able to create such masterpieces was such a cool experience. Wow, what a fantastic dining experience! We had reservations for my husband's birthday, and Wild Common delivered flawless hospitality and a fabulous tasting menu. The interior offers modern elegance with an intimate appeal. We sat at a table anchored by a long banquet bench. There was also the Chef's counter, a hi top, and a few other 4 top tables. Our server Christina delivered attentive and engaging service all night. She knew all components of the menu, and shared her expertise as courses were served. The menu tonight was amazing, each part giving unique tastes and satisfying flavor. Our menu included lobster chawanmushi, a mushroom pho, oyster, a carrot caramelle pasta, seared scallop, and NY strip with black garlic sauce. It was all so amazing! Four of us walked into Wild Common on a Friday night with no reservation, four days after they received their first Michelin star. We weren't expecting much. After much discussion between host, management and the chef, we were set up at the bar for dinner! It ended up being the perfect vantage point to see the kitchen prepping all of the dishes to go out. Perfectly cooked, the fish was accompanied by a vibrant combination of Dogpatch Farm Jimmy Nardello peppers, blue crab raviolo, and sauce vierge. Each element was meticulously prepared, and the dish sang with freshness and flavor. Next came a choice between the Manchester Farms stuffed quail and Mayura Station Australian Wagyu. From the moment we arrived, we were made to welcome by Chris our host who led us through the entire tasting of menu at the chef's table on the second floor. We began with an amuse bouche, trio, and completed with a unique tiramisu. Enjoyed another special evening here this week. And happy to see that nothing has changed since they received their star - except that all the tables are full, as it should be! It was fun to see the place buzzing with activity but the intimate and classy ambience is still there. As always, we appreciated the warm and attentive (but not overbearing) service. We didn't do the pairing but the wine we had was a lovely complement to the meal, as was the mocktail I ordered. Each time we've come, there has been an oyster in the "snack" lineup, a course with a Hokkaido scallop, and then the main includes New York strip. But each time, they've all been prepared differently with totally different accompaniments. We have enjoyed the consistency and balance of these ingredients (seafood and meat), while also appreciating Chef Orlando's innovation and creativity in making them new with each menu he curates. We also noticed and appreciated that with the increase in price to $95 (we recognize that inflation is a very real thing!), the portion size has also increased. The options presented to us was to choose between the fish entree or wagyu special entree. We could then add wine pairings experience or just order from the wine list. Once we told our waiter our selections (1 fish, 1 wagyu and wine pairings) the experience began. Each tasting was delivered descriptively and with so much appreciation for the creative process and then the sommelier came by to educate us on the wine and his love for wine. Another incredible experience at Wild Common. This time, we went for our anniversary and sat at the chef's counter where you can see into the kitchen, which is always a special treat! I highly recommend doing this at least once! They changed the upgrade options slightly to if you want the caviar, it replaces the soup course, which lowers the cost of that upgrade. The soup looked really good to us, so we opted not to do the caviar this time. Had it still been an additional course, we might have said yes, though! Again, all the courses are little strokes of culinary genius that absolutely made my mouth and stomach happy! A superb experience touching all the senses. It's a beautiful setting with contemporary art projected on a large wall in the dining room, and the open kitchen facing the seats at the bar. Service is exemplary, both friendly and professional, while the food and wines are perfectly paired. In short: Reasonably priced (although relatively small) tasting menu without add-ons. The bill can quickly add up with supplements and the wine pairing. With food that was good but not extraordinary and instances of disappointing service, our experience fell short of expectations for a restaurant with so many positive reviews. Wild Common is a beautiful venue with a long candlelit corridor with pops of greenery leading you into a high-ceilinged dining room with an open kitchen and interesting local art projecting onto the walls. Our reservation was on Friday, March 8th at 9 pm. We were greeted promptly upon arrival, however, front-of-house appeared stressed and did not come off particularly welcoming. Our table was not ready yet, which was not a problem and we were directed to seats at the bar where we could grab a drink while we waited. We enjoyed watching the chefs work in a focused manner while also getting a preview of the food that would soon be coming our way. At the bar, it was a bit too long before we were greeted and given water. We continued to sit there for 10 minutes and the bartender never came back for our drink order. She stood behind the bar polishing glasses and occasionally interacted with other guests instead. We were eventually seated about 20 minutes after our reservation time. We added the two supplement options (eggs benedict and wagyu) to one of our meals. In total, our dishes included starters (oyster, crab rice, and mushroom dumpling), eggs benedict, beets, halibut, wagyu, quail, and dessert. We also did the wine pairing. The starting snacks were our favorite bites of the meal. All three (oyster, crab rice, and mushroom dumpling) were delicious and unique. The beet dish was earthy and not overpowered by the mole. The eggs benedict consisted of a house-made english muffin, caviar, and hollandaise. This was a tasty and enjoyable dish but in what world are these not delicious when paired together? The remainder of the meal fell flat for us. The halibut was good and well prepared. I enjoyed the beans and morel mushrooms that came with it. The A5 Australian wagyu was delicious and cooked perfectly. It came with asparagus and a potato pave. One issue I had with this course was being served a different potato preparation with my wagyu than what I previously observed plated in the kitchen. If I hadn't seen that in the kitchen earlier or if I received an explanation for the swap, there wouldn't have been a problem. The quail was slightly dry, otherwise an ok course. Overall, these dishes were pretty standard and seemed like they were trying to appeal to the masses. The food was not exciting or interesting and this was our primary problem with the main courses. The flan dessert was good but not memorable. We enjoyed the wine pairings and the sommelier was engaging. He provided interesting information about the winemakers, grapes, and region. Although the portion sizes were appropriate, this was the smallest tasting menu I've ever had in terms of number of courses. I did appreciate leaving the meal not feeling overly full. Our server was nice but seemed inexperienced. We ordered an additional glass of wine at the end of our meal and she brought us the bill without asking if there was anything else she could get us. She also picked up the signed bill before we left the table. It was close to closing time (11:30 pm) with our bill coming around 11:15 pm but her actions seemed like signals to leave. We wanted to leave on schedule with their closing time but did feel slightly rushed, especially with our dinner starting late. We were surprised by our disappointing experience at Wild Common. The attention to detail and service was not on par with the GM having experience at Alinea (dined here in 2022). I would have liked to try more unique main courses from Chef Pagan. This was our most expensive and least favorite restaurant we visited in Charleston. read more

Yes, WC is similar to the movie, The Menu, or even Richie's dream job/restaurant in The Bear. Yes, WC is pricey as hell with small portions; we spent $1150 with 4 people. We knew what we were getting into after reading other frustrated Yelpers complaints and researching the tasting menu ahead of time. Before you book, understand that you need to savor each course AND the entire dining experience so you can enjoy WC taking care of you. While we're not huge seafood people, we enjoyed WC's selections and wine pairings. The first three courses come together; we really enjoyed the gazpacho. Our favorite was the dumpling. Yum. Yes, the buttery Maine lobster stole the show and had the perfect (cooked) texture as you can see in the pic. Our friends said that the Wagyu beef substitution was savory, textured, and worth the addition. The chocolate torte was the perfect meal capstone and complemented everything else very well. Where WC excels is that they lack the pretentious vibe other tasting restaurants have. The host was polite and eager to make us happy, Kenny was an attentive and charming server, and the expos were eager to school us on each course. Yes, we actually DO like to learn and eat at the same time. Looking around, some patrons wore t-shirts while others were wearing upscale dining clothes. There was a great dining room energy and you could tell that everyone was curious about the food, into the experience, and excited to be there. While WC isn't a weekly stop, it's a unique option when celebrating a special occasion (in our case a friend's reunion), anniversary, or milestone. read more

My wife and I came here for a special date night right before Christmas. I'd never heard of the WC before, and my wife made the reservation. We sat at the bar so we could watch the chef prepare the bites / meal. Basic premise of this meal is that you get about 7 plates of bites, from appetizer to entree to dessert. You wouldn't think that would be enough at first, but we left full and happy. Each bite was so amazingly good. The Korean Chicken was my favorite appetizer. We had the option to upgrade a few entrees to fancier dishes, with caviar and such, but we stuck with the basic menu. We also added a couple of cocktails. This review is during Covid19 and on their Sunday take out only. We saw a recommendation on Chucktown Foodies for their Korean Fried Chicken, so we purchased a ticket for the following Sunday. Well organized pick up, my 'Resy' was for 5 pm. I hadn't been to Wild Common yet, and what a beautiful oasis for an interior and garden space. Sanitation station as you enter/leave - dinner is bagged up, neatly, and handed to me by gloved waitstaff. What I appreciated was the bag was left open, so the 'fry' did not become wet. We sat down to crunchy, delicious fried chicken with two sauces (OH MY the honey sauce - I'd like that bottled and set to 'go'. ) Fluffy, well baked biscuits, and a spicy kimchi slaw. The whole meal was delicious and I look forward to a chicken salad, with leftover chicken, drizzled with honey sauce, for lunch today. All 7 courses were very good, cooked perfectly and flavorful (though I don' think one roll and butter should count as a course, that should come with the dinner), my main complaint was that the portions were very small. We left hungry. The first three courses are one bite each. It starts with one baked oyster, followed by one shrimp dumpling, then one tiny duck taco with mole. The entrees were the lobster (then bread course, one warm roll with butter) and the chicken pave. The pierogi (one per plate) that came with the chicken pave was probably the best bite of the meal. Dessert was a sweet brioche filled with cinnamon apples and topped with vanilla ice cream. Again, all of the food was tasty and I would eat every course again, I just think the portions need to be bigger (maybe double). I would be willing to pay more if they increased their serving size. We had the chefs tasting menu at the bar and it was absolutely phenomenal...ask for the caviar served on a hash brown and wagyu beef...both are outstanding!!! This restaurant is PHENOMENAL. Best restaurant in Charleston, hands down. My family came for dinner in late December and it was quite perfect. We sat at the bar so we were able to watch the kitchen prepare the meals. I believe every month, the menu for the Chefs Table changes. We visited in December 2019 and ordered from the four course tasting menu. This means my whole party got one of each of the 'Bites' (Steam Bun, Agedashi Tofu, Dry Aged Beef Tartare, Har Gow) and each of the 'Dessert Bites' (Yule Log, Mignardises). For the 'First' part of the meal, I ordered the Red Kurt Soup. For the 'Next' part of the meal, I had the Butter Poached Local Swordfish & Prawns. All delicious and fresh. My mouth is watering thinks about it! We enjoyed the every bite was better than the last! Our server was friendly and attentive. The head chef was kind enough to come out and greet us and striked up a conversation with us. It was great talking to him. I strongly recommend visiting Wild Common if you're looking for a fabulous dining experience in Charleston! read more

When we sat down and saw wooden chopsticks you get from your local Chinese take out, it should have been a red flag . Where to begin, I picked this restaurant because it had an attractive tasting menu and good reviews. It was my birthday, and all I have to say is that I was so disappointed. They poorly explained the cost of the tasting menu both by the website and the server. The food did not taste good and it felt very badly executed and lacking in good flavors. The cost of the meal? It was extremely expensive. Charleston has much better choices than this place. Avoid it. Go somewhere that has fresh dishes and ingredients. If the food had been any good, I would not have been upset at the cost of the entire meal. read more

I am a blue collar man that thinks spending $100+ on a date for you and your wife is outrageous, HOWEVER, this is hands down the best restaurant I have ever been to. I have been lucky enough to eat a Michelin star restaurants in Paris and NYC and the food is on the same level and the staff makes you feel like you are home. I have lived in the low country my entire life and I now have an answer when I am asked "what's the best restaurant in Charleston?" Wild Common, can't wait to come back. read more

While there are some drawbacks to persistent work travel, amongst the advantages has been the ability to eat really good, regional foods in a lot of cities over many years. And while there are plenty of things I'm not so good at, I'm a really skilled eater. My favorite aspect of travel is identifying the "it" restaurants in the markets I visit, specifically farm-to-table, and doing what I can to take in as many local tastes as possible. We met the food Mecca tonight. My personal vote for best-of-the-best. Wild Common. This is it. Spectacular on all accounts. I'm going to venture to say this may be the very best the U.S. has to offer. It's simply THAT good. Chef's table, selected courses, creativity beyond my wildest imagination, and a wine pairing list that would excite even the most skilled sommelier. Beyond the eats and drinks, the conversations with the head chef and staff were insightful and entertaining. Had an indescribably wonderful dinner last night at Wild Common. It's a beautiful, dramatic space inside, and a zen like atmosphere outdoors where we were seated. Our server Kenneth was charming, attentive and knowledgeable. And the food was just ethereal. Started with small, luxurious bites including a Korean chicken with buttermilk miso and mustard seeds, and the richly dense Slow Poached Egg with Piccolo Farro, Purple Potato, Black Truffle. The larger portions included a Seared Diver Scallop with Chickpea Toast, and a Dry Aged Strip Loin and Oxtail Gyoza, Asparagus, with Garlic-brown butter. Pictured was perhaps one of the most decadent portions I've ever eaten, the "Eggs Benedict" with Regiis Ova Osetra Caviar, English Muffin, and Hollandaise. Kudos to Executive Chef Orlando Pagán and special thanks to chef de cuisine Paul San Luis for his special attention. Highly recommend! Had a great dinner here with seats at the chef counter and it was worth the small fee to do that. Seeing the precision of the prep and getting to spend time talking to Chef Orlando was great, despite him admitting to being a Mets fan. The bar manager guided us through the meal and beverage choices like a true master of her craft.
