We were excited to try this place. The outside and the decor scream 50s diner, and its open 24 hours. We went on a Saturday morning and weren't even sure it was open. Only one or two cars in the parking lot when that is a popular time for breakfast. We went in and were surprised to say the least. Hiphop rap music blared from the radio. I have been here before 6 months ago and it was great. Unfortunately, I brought my sister here and my order was a complete disaster. I ordered the loaded. Hashbrowns. I asked for bacon crispy. Not only was the bacon, completely raw, but I told them to go back and cook it twice. The third time I told him no Bacon at all since they don't know how to cook bacon. The third time they delivered it, there were no potatoes. It was only onions, jalapeños, and bell peppers, and a little bit of a melted cheese. The waitress had nothing but excuses. This place is A-OK, as far as I am concerned. Nothing fancy or special about the food, kind of the equivalent of a typical Denny's. We ate here three times, breakfast and dinner, over the long holiday weekend. Service was fast and friendly each time we sat down. Our orders, for 4 people, all came out within minutes of each other. Refills occurred without having to flag the waitress down. The restaurant was clean, as was the restroom. I'm not going to be long-winded on this review, as there really isn't a whole lot more to say. We all agreed we'd eat here again next time we are in town. read more

Very authentic. I'm moving out of Yuma soon and this is one of the only places I will truly miss. I don't understand the three star rating it is at, and am only compelled to write a review because I wanted to balance the scale a little. I work a very strange schedule and get off work at 11:00, very few places are open so I go here often. Unbeatable atmosphere, feels more like a diner you would visit in a dream than a real place. I used to work fast food and the only thing I miss is the grill, this is one of those places where you can watch the grill man work. Food is inconsistent, the same sandwich will be mediocre one day and great the next. Who cares, that's what happens when food is cooked normally. Fast food screwed with everyone's understanding of how things are meant to work. In that same vain, anyone complaining about service is not realizing that any enthusiasm they've ever received from an employee at any restaurant was faked. Here, they're nice in a very real way, like they're an old friend you're meeting up with for drinks and you're close enough now that there's no need to play up the excitement of meeting up. I swear to the good lord there is no better place to unwind after an awful day at work. If you're really tired and just passing through Yuma I recommend it even more, this place is made for weary travelers. I do have two complaints, which are that sometimes the place is only doing take-out orders, and they're inconsistent about when this is, and you end up having to go somewhere worse like IHop (where I am writing this review). We are here in Yuma for our sons 20 year Retirement ceremony we headed out for breakfast to go to Crackle Barrel But came across Penny's Diner so we decided to turn around and try "local" instead. We both loved our orders. I as usual had an omelette and my husband had scrambled eggs which were mixed together with sausage, ham and bacon. At first we both looked at it and said oh dear lol. Believe me when I say that I wanted to hook a U turn and go back. We continued to the Cracker Barrel. The next time we came through Yuma, this shiny diner was calling my name. We stopped in. It was a quanit little diner with small booths and counter seating available. The menu offered up typical diner food with a menu that had some funny sayings on it. I ordere the meatloaf..it could have been better. When it came to the table it looked like they had put end pieces of the meatloaf onto my plate. And the end pieces are a little too dark and dry. I tried it and my first impression was right..dry meatloaf. The rest of the food was ok. The atmosphere was more fun. And I would come back to try other items just to see what they offer. The place seems pretty busy and quite a few return customers based on the conversations that the staff was having with the customers. The restroom was tiny and reminded me of a airplane restroom. Came here on a whim because my friend saw a shiny building and wanted to explore more. This is a small diner that looks like a subway car with 50's decor inside. The server was friendly and service was good. I got the sea dog which is a long piece of battered fish on a hot dog roll topped with lettuce and tomatoe, tartar sauce on the side. I opted for the tater tots covered in chili cheese and onions. The fish was cooked perfectly nice and flakey on the inside. The chili cheese tater tots were excellent. Unfortunately my friend's meal was not so great. Her meatloaf was hard and dry, looks like they gave her the end pieces and they were burnt. She also had chili cheese tater tots which she liked. Delicious place for breakfast! This is my second time here and I've loved it both times. Today I ordered the Waffle Combo with bacon. The waffle was cooked perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The bacon was also crunchy and I love to dip it in the syrup. Where to start? I can forgive a pre-made patty but I absolutely draw the line at powdered mash potatoes. REALLY!??! OMG...and they were served dead cold without even the option of gravy. To make matters worse, the whole plate was tossed into the microwave, which of course dried out my barely acceptable chicken fried steak. Green beans were straight from their frozen state, warmed, and then to my plate without even the hint of seasoning. I put the last of my hopes and dreams on a strawberry sundae. Alas, they couldn't even get this simple order right. I was served a sundae with a minimal amount of chocolate sauce, no strawberry but a few cherries, maraschino, with some of that juice and canned whipped cream. Philly sandwich (ordered with little or no oil) was literally perfect in every respect! Perfect to me means: Meat must be: Lean, no fat, no grizzle, not dry, no black crispy pieces and one bite = one bite (versus one bite turns into a slab of meat being pulled from the sandwich). Veggies must retain color and some crunch. Nothing can be soggy, mushy, oily or salty. In fact, I asked them to hold the salt and they replied they don't add salt (Bravo!) The Hoagie must be fresh, tender with a slight toasted crunch. And finally, a sandwich must retain it's handheld nature until the very last bite. Check, check and CHECK!
