Awful place. Very inexperienced mechanics. they should not be allowed to work with cars. my car had died on me and i had to have it towed here at the end of the day. i was promised a call in the morning and i got no communication from anyone. i spent an entire day calling them and forcing information out of them and trying to get them to tell me what was wrong with my car and how much it would cost to repair. i got a call the next day with a quote of at least $8000 plus man hours. and this was for needing to replacing the engine and rebuilding a potentially broken gasket. needless to say, i took the car to a different mechanic, who traced the issue to bad spark plugs. it's incredible how something small could be misdiagnosed into a whole new engine and an $8000 bill. So save your time and money and go to a local mechanic. read more

I've been coming to Pep Boys for over 2 years, fully trusting the work they did on my cars. Sadly, I will not be going again because of a very strange turn of events that showed me the PepBoys staff in Bayside are either extremely reckless or out to make a quick buck off unsuspecting customers. I brought my car in for a NY State Inspection and about a week later my rear driver-side tire exploded. "Thankfully", my wife was near PepBoys and asked the mechanic to take a look. According to THEIR words, the mechanic found inside the tire a "whole boxcutter", which just so happened to knock out the TPMS sensor. How does a whole box cutter end up inside an exploded tire?? I asked other people familiar with cars, and they told me that a tire exploding with a box cutter inside is really bizarre. However, I didn't question them about it and we were charged just under $300 to buy a brand new tire and tire sensor plus installation fees. A little over a week later, my TPMS sensor signaled low pressure. I went to a gas station to check and found that one of the tires was underinflated (29 PSI instead of the recommended 32 PSI) and that the front passenger tire was over 51 PSI. This was 50% higher than the recommended PSI! Of course things started to smell really fishy. The extreme over inflation of tires would explain why my driver-side rear tire freakishly EXPLODED with a box cutter inside. Now I can understand if they overinflated this tire to let's say 35 or even 40 PSI, but over 51 PSI? I confirmed with PepBoys staff that it is their protocol to check the tire pressure on all tires during inspections and flat fixes. So in failing to check my 51 PSI tires after two routine tire checks, the employees at PepBoys were either extremely reckless in checking and inflating my tires or purposefully tried to pull the wool over my eyes.The world will never know. Either way, they did a very poor job "inspecting" my car and making sure my car was safe to drive upon leaving their lot. I will no longer take my cars to any PepBoys store in the future. My whole family's lives were at risk because of them. read more

Ripped off by Pepboys for changing HID headlight bulb. Service rep explained to me that they will have to disassemble the head light assembly to replace the bulb which is why it cost $184 labor to replace 2 bulbs. I took their word for it. I did a search on the Infiniti G35 Driver website and found out that it takes 5 minutes to change bulb. All that is needed is to do is turn wheel to expose wheel cover, access through wheel cover and then unscrew bulb and replace with new one It was that simple. The estimated labor amount is 1.6 hours for a maximum 15 minute job. I promptly complained to the service manager but he insisted that it was a difficult job which is total non-sense. I will not take my vehicles to Pepboys again and buyer beware. read more

This place is horrible. First of all they have no parking for an auto repair shop where people need to park their cars for maintenance. I have been here several times simply because it's the only place near me but I will not be going back. I waited 2 1/2 hours for an oil change that should have taken 30 minutes tops while I watched workers stand around do nothing and run around snapping towels and joking with each other. I took my car for inspection a few months later and I was the last appointment of the day so it should have been very quick (car is only a year old) but again I waited almost an hour. I had a tire puncture recently and needed it to be patched and the man on the phone told me they are not ABLE to make same day appointments.... Since when? For emergency maintenance? This store is a joke and I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Ugh. I made an appointment for an oil change at 10am on a Thursday before driving up to Cape Cod (~275 mile drive). It took until 10:15 for the service manager to find me, 10:25 until I handed over my keys, with the reassurance that they would check the car over & call me if anything else needed doing, but otherwise she should be ready in ~45 minutes. I came back from walking around the neighborhood at 11:20 to see them pulling my car into a service bay. Huh? I didn't realize they did test drives after an oil change. Wait, why is he popping the hood again? At that point the service manager came over to tell me that I needed two new brake lights, I'd been running on just one. OK, part of that "complementary inspection," all good. Except that they were starting my oil change almost 90 minutes after my appointment!!! That alone might have still left them with 2 or 3 stars, after all, it's just time. Around 12:15 the service manager tells me the car's done, I can pay. I ask - you looked it over and it's all good? He says yes. Strange, because I know my check engine light is on. Shouldn't they have mentioned that? Whatever, I know what it is & wasn't having them take care of it. However, as I watched them back the car out of the garage I shouldn't have had to notice that I had a headlight out. Or, when he had me confirm that the replaced headlight was working, that my washer fluid was out. The kid from Lincoln Tech working on my car told me that he was rushing b/c the manager said I was in a hurry. Well, duh! At 12:15 I WAS in a hurry. I wasn't in a hurry when I brought the car in for the 10am appointment that they clearly disregarded. Convenience & reasonable pricing are all well and good, but I'd rather drive farther & pay more for more competent service that respects my time. read more

Service is so slow. Sooooooooooo slow. They told me it'd be 1.5 hour for my tire patch (~$20, its $5 less at a lot of other places but they're not open today), which is a 15 minute thing. I understand they're busy but it took nearly 3 hours and I saw my car jacked up in their garage at the 1.25 hr mark so whyyyy does it take double the promised time?! The guy who took car of me wasn't knowledgeable either. The receipt says David. He went out initially to check my car and he comes back in for the write up, not notifying me that I should follow. Then he asks me the year make and model...did he not just go out there to look? The year I understand..but make and model?! For realz man..what were you doing? I also asked him how much longer as I have already waited 2.25hrs in the customer lounge, which is pretty ghetto (no coffee, just 1 TV with baseball on), and he said he'll ask the tech, asked me again for the 3rd time which tire, and went to the tech. He walked back and forth through the lounge several times right after and ignored me. Bad customer service. Never again. Hope my tire patch is actually okay. They lost my original black tire cap and replaced with a cheaper grey cap. Also inflated the tire to 39 psi...manufacturer says 32 and pep boys safety check says 32. read more

I have been coming here for years now.. I have a 2008 jeep. And they have me still running.. Oil change, tiers and so much more.. Now my little boy takes me to PA and everywhere I wanna go without a negative throughout in my mind. These guys are fast.. And funny at times.. Would give zero stars if I could, staff said half hour wait, but had two walkins that came after me were helped before me. Overall, 2.5 hours for a tire plug, no exaggeration. 11:24am-1:55pm. The technician actually never used a tie plug kit. Came here out of convinience but would rather drive further to avoid this shop. 2nd time coming, both times horrible. I spoke with someone at this location on Friday 5/31/19 and was given a 2:00 Saturday appointment to get my 4 tires changed. I was given a price of $85/tire. I arrived for my appointment and was told they didn't carry the tires I needed and wanted to charge me $170/tire for different tires. This establishment is a rip off and not customer service friendly at all. Avoid the tire department at Pep Boys in Bayside. They are awful and expensive!!!!! Why is the service so bad here? I called ahead to see how long it would take to get emissions inspection. I was told I could drop my car off and come back to pick it up in 2 hours. When I arrived, they told me 3 hours. Fine, it was still within the window of time I had to get the job done. Three and a half hours later I called and was told it would be another 2-2.5 hours. I told them I didn't have time to wait at that point (I had to go back to work) and would have to come pick up my car. When I arrived to pick it up, I couldn't even get anyone to acknowledge me for a good 10-15 mins (had to get someone from retail to go to the garage to get the service guy). At that point, 5 hours after I had dropped off my car, they told me the inspection was in process and it would be another 30 mins! I had to beg for my keys back with no inspection just so I could make it to work. I eventually left with no inspection sticker and no where else to get one because everywhere else had closed by then. Short version: I went in today to get a new battery and it ended up taking 2 hours!!! Long version: called ahead and was told I could be in and out 30-40 min, plus free installation. I had my 4 month old with me so I figured that that is doable. Got in, the garage was pretty empty, looked like there was only 1 guy ahead of me. The guy working the service desk was very friendly and informative. Told me I could get the everything evaluated to make sure it's defn a battery issue before I go ahead and buy a new battery, so I said sure. The eval took 30 min, he asked if I wanted to get an oil change too. I was reluctant but he offered to print a coupon that would save me a few dollars so I agreed. Wouldn't have said yes if I knew it was going to take another hour and a half! Three other customers came in after me. Two of them finished around the same time, but somehow he manager put them in front of me when ringing us up. When I brought it up, he got defensive and at this point, I just needed to get my baby home and had my husband call to complain. The bill came up and I was getting charged for installation and a higher price for the oil change so I pointed it out and had to wait longer to get rung up again. Never coming here again! read more

I used to go to Pep Boys because their online appointment was convenient and I figured their prices were decent as they usually run promos and all parts are located on site. Well... first thing is that they are sllllllooooowwwwwww...... even with an appointment, it took almost 2 hours just to check my brakes. Second thing is that they are damn expensive. I happen to know the average cost of the parts involved for a brake and rotor change and their prices were nearly double that with inferior parts. BTW, their parts are always cheaper on their own website!! in addition to almost always running a promo that gives an additional 20% or larger discount coupon on top. The only saving grace for this place is that they haven't tried to rip me off on the usual "you need a new air filter" spiel. read more

Every time I've gone here I've witnessed the "mechanics" do nothing but f*ck around while every space is occupied by a car that needs fixing. No wonder everything takes hours. Oh you have an appointment? Doesn't matter. Why? Bc this place is like a "how many idiots does it take to screw on a lightbulb" joke. Labor costs more than any part you need replaced..and they are not knowledgeable even. I brought in my car for the full check up.. Was gonna spend as much as I needed to fix everything from tires,breaks etc.. The guy tells me my tires are good.. A week later I get a flat bc my tire needed to be trashed (mavis fixed it right up).. Bc according to pep boys.. They wanna charge me like $2 for the tire and $198 for service.. Which by the way.. I'm still waiting for them to call me and let me know my tire came in (thanks for ordering it jerk offs!) But what do you expect when you got a whole bunch of irresponsible young men w their hands in their pants.. Too busy to grab a better sized tool and get down to it and actually get the job done. I used to go here occasionally before it was pep boys and it was R&S Strauss, the service was bad then and it's gotten worse now. I've only gone in because it's close to my house, I now go out of my way to go to other auto stores. The staff are rude and don't care about anything. I went in to buy something and there were no employees behind the register but there was a line of 4 people waiting. I see a group of employees standing on the side next to the register talking to someone who clearly didn't work there and was probably just a friend. they completely ignored everyone and just kept talking to their friend. After a few minutes a lady asked them for help and all she received was an attitude and a dirty look. I then put my stuff on a random shelf and walked out. What a shit show....mechnics running everwhere sitting out smoking and i even saw one mechanic wore sunglasses indoor as if he was cool. came in for rear brakes and rotors since it was needed a awhile. I made an online appointmemt and selected the oil change promotion. they charged me a manager special which included a wiper and i didnt even get the wiper...caught them in the act...becareful and read the specials. i feel they are grimey and bunch of monkeys with wrenches running around. they not professional and need to shaped up with new management. please reevaluate this location. we can speak about other isssue when you contact me. read more

Prior to coming here, i was a loyal customer of firestone down the block. I have always been a fan of firestone but for the past few visits, becaus of a tire issue, I had not been happy. Well, firestone's loss is pep boy's gain! Firstly, if you become a Pepboy member, you get your flat fixed for free! They always offer coupons. and at least one of the mechanic there is very reliable, think name is "cliff" or "clifton". The store front people DEFINITELY needs more training (this is a direct reflection of the job that the store manager is doing) . Once I stood there 15 minutes after i was asked to complete a form. the guy simply walked away...came back then walked away again for several times. I finally asked another guy for help but when the original guy came back, he did not even apologize for keeping me waiting. I believe he completely forgot about me... Scheduled an oil change on line, arrived 10 minutes early, SUV taken right away. Coupon presented and of couse the oil is more because I have a SUV, but it never said extra charge for SUV's. I didn't argue, I assumed I was going to be charged a higher amount. Basically a 18.99 oil change coupon turned into $35. Told me I got $7 off with coupon, I needed an oil change, I could not wait a week for my mechanic to fit me in, so I just sucked it up and went to Pepboys. Came in to smoke out the fuel lines to find any gas leaks. Smoke out cost about $32.... which if you ask me is a pretty fricking awesome deal. Everywhere else we went we were being charged $100+ Mechanic did not find any leaks but found that the solenoid was disconnected... Which he fixed at no extra charge. Last week, I went in for a for a flat repair for my front left tire keeps losing air. I knew I needed tires but was looking for a good deal on tires. The mechanic Billy removes the tire and found that there was a screw in the corner of the tire. Unfortunately, I live in Brooklyn and he said it was unsafe to drive under those conditions and I needed all four tires cause of tread depths and dry rotted cracks. I then went inside and spoke to a well spoken gentlemen Christopher he gave me options in the different miles the tires go up to in what they had in stock and explain the current promotion buy 3 get the 4th free. With the Service Manager Mike P. help they explained the pros and benefits of the road hazard warranty. To make a long story short with their help I found the perfect deal and I am very happy that we have people like these two gentlemen working in customer service I will be definitely returning here with any future repairs I have and recommend everyone to speak to Christopher or the Service Manager Mike P when they need service or repairs done on their vehicle. read more

I made an appointment to get a NYS Inspection. When I arrived, the entrance to the garage was blocked. After honking my horn to get someone's attention, one of the service technicians came out and told me to find a parking place somewhere and check in for my appointment. I insisted in speaking with a manager, who finally appeared. He told me that they were "full" and my "appointment" was to reserve a bay, but since they were full at the time, I should find someplace to park my car and wait. I told him that I will NEVER, EVER bring any car I might own to Pep Boys again if this is how they treat their customers. AVOID THIS PLACE. read more

I want to thank Lyn the store manager for stepping up and going above and beyond to help secure my faith in pep boys. I had ordered a part online and after waiting 3 days with no response I called the online customer service and was told the part was shipped to the wrong store and they couldn't tell me where it was. Then I called the location my part was supposed to be delivered to and all I was told was they didn't have it and to wait another 5 days. Which to me was unsatisfactory. Then customer service told me to call the bayside store where the part was erroneous shipped to that's when Lyn said it wasn't my job to be tracking this part. Then Lyn took ownership and said she will make calls and get back to me. 30 minutes later Lyn was able to let me know where my part was which I went to pick up. Lynn again thanks for caring and doing what others that I spoke to earlier did not do and put the customer first. read more

Whatever mechanic I got sucked. I took a company vehicle to have serviced for an oil change and tire rotation. First of all, I was told it was a one hour wait. Two and a half hours later I walked myself into the shop only to find out my vehicle was finished for an hour without a phone call to tell me. Secondly, no tire rotation. My good tires were in the rear of a FWD vehicle, they should've been swapped and they were not. Then when I asked about it, I was talked to as if I did not know what I was talking about. All because my mechanic tried to cut some corners. Won't be going back. Thanks for a waste of my time. read more
