Made an appointment by phone which means nothing, I showed up and the kid had no idea I had an appointment. Then told me I'll be taken care of, he took my keys and went to work on other cars. I needed my older model, high mileage car checked out to see if I needed to replace the timing belt. The technician thoroughly checked my car and determined that the timing belt was not the problem. (LADIES BEWARE ) Sent my girl to get a wheel alignment on truck . They told her that it needed to repair the suspension system which was odd because the truck drives great just needed an alignment . Took it to my trusted mechanic & told me not a thing was wrong with the truck . Only reason I took it to this place because it's near my house and my trusted mechanic is an hour and half away . I actually called them one morning in July to see if they fix tires due to waking up and seeing that my Eclipse had a flat. Of course this is a big deal since I did have tons of things to do at work, including meetings. The young lady told me to come in but her guys are not there until 8:00 (I called at 7:15). I went in and an older gentleman was nice enough to say, "Hey just pull your car in, no sense in you waiting". Which of course I thought was so nice since he really wasn't on the clock just yet. I wish I would've got his name though. When he put my car on the gurney, he checked the tire from underneath and said, "It doesn't seem like a patching job, the tire was too far gone". He still filled it up and said it should last me at least a few hours. Which was awesome. At least I could go and find a place in the meantime. When I went to pay him he said "oh no, I didn't do anything except put air and that's free". Now this is what I call honest and just awesome. My morning started out bad but it was starting to look up. Positive thinking for sure. I thanked him and said "can I at least give you a tip?" He said, "NO". This is what is called honest working. Dont go to this shop!!!!!! I have a 2005 Chevy Impala and i came in for front&rear pads&rotors. They were fast at getting me in but even faster trying to rip me off they wanted $1132.00 plus tax. I just had a feeling this price was high then i said to myself i must get another estimate so while pulling out of there lot I saw a shop call Expert Auto Centers right across the street. Iwent in they bought me a coffee and gave me a price of $670.00 for the same service i was gonna be charged double for at Car-x. I found my new home thank you Expert Auto Centers. read more

They took my car in right away. Came in at noon, no one else was waiting. Very organized with the Groupon deal.. No need to ask me what was included- they had all the info. ....Few months later... the free wipers that came with the Groupon were too cheap (quality). They messed up one of my wiper arms which now needs to be replaced. Lo barato sale caro. Lesson learned. read more

I have found my second home. The managers were excellent with me. My 1996 Jeeg Grand Cherokee was stalling. I took it to this shop and they were kind enough to not only expect it but keep it over night to make sure that they were correct in their diagnosis. THe next day they called me and let me know that they were incorrect and that the part i needed could not be obtained but rather rebuilt. They provided the number for a person that could rebuild my computer and charged me nothing for their services. I even got picked up and dropped off at my home while they inspected my vehicle. read more

Nice people! Ruth and Dan treated me very nicely, and the mechanic who actually did the work, spoke to me as well. They fixed all the safety issues only, as my car is an older vehicle. They said I can do the rest of the work as needed, and the mechanic even brought out the old part to show me how badly rusted it was. It was a fairly good place all around. I reccomend them to anyone who is looking for an honest place to take their vehicle, except their labor is on costly side. I did like them, but need other work and will shop around for a less expensive place. read more

I don't know how every rating on here isn't 5 stars! They deserve it. My car died so I took it to them to have it looked at. Found out it was the battery. They replaced that for me. I went to pick up the car and pay and they had also fixed another issue on my car (for free) that I totally forgot to mention. Just a simple fix and someone else that looked at it before had told me it was a major repair. My husband also took his car here over the summer for repairs and the price was fair and they were super nice! I love this place and the people that work there! read more

These guys are the best...Dan & Ruth have been there for years and are the wayyyyyyyy more reasonable & honest than the dealer. They also have a couple of long term employees like Mike that take pride in their work and seem to be happy to work their. Very poor service. Made appointment to get my car oil with $18.99 oil change they told me over the phone. Once I checked out, it ended up being $90! Apart from this, the chubby dude with glasses is so rude and talks to you as if you are dumb. Never coming here and would not recommend. read more

They were friendly and professional from the phone call onward. Not only did they charge less than half of some other places they did it without being pushy and with a smile and friendly conversation. They even gave me a ride home while they fixed my car and offered to pick me up when it was ready. I will be going here from now on for my auto repair needs. read more

Amazing service!!!!! New Year's Eve and around 1:30pm and my car dies right on the road in front of their place. I stop in and the owner who also works there grabs 1 battery jumper device to see if it will start and after a few tries rules out it being the battery. He goes back into the store and grabs 4 guys to push my Yukon XL into one of the bay's there. They push it in and I explain that we are from TX and visiting for the Holidays and leaving tomorrow and that we used to live here in Oak Lawn for our entire lives before moving to TX 3 years ago. He was great he bumped our truck to the front and got them to triage it ASAP. They found it was the alternator and 2 belts and were able to fix it in less than 2hrs. We were in and out in less than 3 hrs total and all without any Appt.... How great is that!!! I drive all the way to the city to deal with Ruth. She is my all time favorite. They save me tons of money, and they always give me the best service! I actually dropped my car off before flying to Miami from Midway, and they kept my car for 5 days while they did the work. We called for a cab to the airport, but they even offered to drop us off. Called for an appointment the day before and was given a 7:30am appointment time because I had failed emissions testing. Arrived at 7:26am and was not only told they were TOO busy, but some woman lectured me about waiting until the last minute? Why give out appointments if you don't intend to service customers? Will complain to the Illinois Emissions testing office in Bedford Park. This particular Car X should NOT be included on their list of area certified emissions specialists. read more

This is our third or fourth time using Car-X at 5418 Pulaski between two cars that we own and I'll never take our cars anywhere else. The service is excellent. Also they don't come back and tell you there's other things wrong with your car when there isn't, just to hike up the bill like the last few places I used prior to this. And when they fix the car, it's fixed! Never had a problem with their work. Great service, honest people, know what they're doing. Can't go wrong. Had my car towed here because my muffler fell off. They repaired my car in less than 30 minutes - a bolt had come loose, and they only charged me $20. They could have padded that bill, but this is an honest, neighborhood business that's been under the same management for over 30 years. Everyone was so friendly. I'm bringing all my car repair needs here. (They do everything here but replace the engine!) How refreshing to find an honest mechanic! A real gem! read more

they put on an exhaust that was louder than the one that i replaced that had a hole in it. i complained and they treated me like crap, telling me that my cars timing was off and that i needed motor work. i then took it to another car x and he replaced that muffler that was just installed with a better one and it was alot quiter . the old manager that was full of himself is no longer there and the new manager is the guy that fixed my muffler at his car x shop for free so maybe this place is better than it used to be... if dan cortese is the mangr id give this place another shot but if he's not there then id go some place else if i were u read more
