I needed a oil change badly, was holding off on it for a couple of days and every Honda dealership was booked. Luckily, I looked on Yelp and saw Pep Boys. The guys and lady in there were so nice and personable. The service was also the fastest I've ever experienced. There was a car in front of me on line and I still got my oil changed and car serviced in less than 30 mins. I was about to make an appointment to get an oil change. I called and got a price quote(mentioning that I wanted conventional oil and no synthetics. I was told there is about an hour wait. All of this is normal. Before going ahead I decided to read the yelp reviews. The number of people who had problems with prices, appointments,apparent over- charging, and waits all added up to a bright red flag. Too bad because I live nearby and would likely bring more business to this establishment. They are pretty quick to respond to Yelp reviews. Pros: You can wait in an area with free coffee, WiFi, Cable TV, couches and access to a restroom. The front is organized and the products for sale are reasonably priced. In short, the front makes you feel relaxed and is smartly designed to keep you distracted while your vehicle is being worked on in the rear. Cons: Poor customer service, understaffed, tries to charge you for unnecessary repairs and the waiting area and restroom need to be cleaned and disinfected. Now, the rear is mostly hidden from your view. There is only one window that allows you to look at only one car being worked on. The vast majority of the cars (including yours) is hidden from your view. Your car will most likely be located in the rear where you will be denied access to your car where it is chained off and locked inside bay doors. In short, once you bring you bring your car there, you do not know who is working on your vehicle nor what they are working on. Bottom Line: I would highly recommend that you do not bring your vehicle to this location. Not only will you receive extremely poor customer service but you will most likely leave with an estimate indicating you need more work done than you originally bargained for. Personally, after passing a 185 point inspection at a dealership the day before, I went into this location to rotate my tires. The store manager working at the cash register indicated that I needed thousands of dollars in repairs. Seems odd, right? You may save yourself not only time and money but you will have serious peace of mind if you simply ask around for another mechanic shop (local) from a trusted source. read more

Awesome service! Although it was a little slow on a Saturday with an influx with people (beware). Went in for a NYS inspection and 4 new tires, was in and out within 1 hr and a half with a couple of cars ahead of me. Atmosphere was clean and nothing was being pushed onto you - what more can you ask for? The mechanic that was helping me even took the extra step to switch out the tire with the most tread and place it as my spare. read more

One of the worst locations to ever do business with. Arrived at 9:20 AM, to get an oil change and run a diagnostic. After nearly 3 hours of waiting in my car, my husband asked if he could leave the keys. Received a call around 1pm telling me I needed new Rotors and break pads. Told me they had it in stock and I gave them the ok. Fast forward to 4pm my husband receives a call saying they had to request the part from another location 15 mins away- but they assured him the car would be ready before close of 6pm. 5:30pm, no call. Outreach made to them 5 times, no answer. I call from a different number and they finally answer. My husband show up and guess what? All these lazy fools have done is an oil change. They've incorrectly ordered the wrong part and didn't notify me or him but instead chose to ignore my calls. While I'm on the phone he sees the mechanic who should be working on my car, he tells them that I don't want the additional service that they have yet to fulfill. The mechanics response-"It is what it is" & then walks off and proceeds to go eat. How is this ethically right? In what universe do you make a mistake and then want to continue to waste someones time???? In essence it took from 9am-7pm to get AN OIL CHANGE BECAUSE THAT WAS ALL THEY ACCOMPLISHED WITHIN THAT TIME FRAME. HOW IS THIS RIGHT?????!!!!! Shame on this Franchise. "It is what it is" should never be the response for the lack of competence this company failed to exude. This Location is terrible. I came to put in tires that I bought from Tire Rack and asked for an alignment. I was there for 4 hours. The alignment they gave me was terrible. My car was swerving all over the road. When I came back the next day I had to wait another 3 hours. PLEASE DO NOT GO THERE. ITS HORRIBLE!!!! read more

Avoid this place at all cost!!! We bought tires online and set up an appointment time for installation the next day. My wife got there and was told that they didn't have the tires. The guy at the counter made some lame effort to call and find out where they were and why they weren't delivered to that location. He proceeded to tell my wife that they had tires in stock for the same price and that he could install those. NO THANKS!!! WE WANTED THE HANCOOK TIRES THAT WE PURCHASED. NOT SOME KNOCK OFF CRAP. Worst experience of my life!!! I'm a pep boys loyal customer atleast I was I've been to this location several times with the complaint about acceleration issues and rattling when driving I was told it's the oil two separate occasions. So my car breaks down on Flatbush by the central public library I call pep boys tow at 930am they say someone will be there in a hour and a half leave the key under the mat and leave back door unlocked 2pm my car is still there and the tow company doesn't no what I'm talking about 4pm a new tow company comes to get it they have the wrong car information and wrong phone number for me!!! I'm not understand where the great service is at this point but it doesn't end there they lock the key in the car so pep boys has to break into my car oh and did I mention they didn't have my info when the dropped my car off to pep boys then pep boys never calls me to update me like they promised or to even give me a quote so I call first thing in the morning to be hit with 716 dollars for a repair sounds like a scam to me when I bring my car in because I'm saying there's an issue with all there equipment and technology they didn't no what was wrong? It was just the oil they said so why do I need a new radiator why did my transmission fluid leak out? I'm telling you don't go hear to make it all better at the end when they finally called me to give me the price I tried to tell them to give me a few to figure out what to do and I call him back and he's rushing me to figure out what I'm doing asking me can I come pick up my car if I don't no if I'm getting the service I felt a so mistreated nothing professional about this my car can't move so I would have to make arrangement if I couldn't pay for the service but it's not that I feel scammed and mistreated as if I'm expected to take whatever treatment and just pay for their service they will never get my business again and I hope this reaches people don't waste your time ... read more

Very disappointed I've arrived today Thursday at 7:05 am because they could not complete the wheel alignment on Saturday after waiting 5 hours that day. My car was not pulled into the shop today until 8:59 am. Why because they had to take care of another costumer that showed up at 7:45 am for an oil change and god forbid they should make him wait for a 15 min (40 min) oil change. It's now 9:25 am and I don't foresee being out by the 9:30 am like they promised. If you like waiting for hours and hours and hours to get your car taken care of then this is the place for you. read more

I am writing to you to express my disappointment with your company. It is clear there is no structure in terms of customer service or accountability. I made an appointment with one of your stores, for yesterday May 28th, 2019 at 6 pm. This would be the store located 2015 Utica Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11234. I changed my work schedule around in order to make this appoint, traveled from Manhattan out to Queens to get my car, to then drive to Brooklyn for this appointment. I managed to arrive 20 minutes early only to be told, sorry we should have called you. There are two cars ahead of you and we can't see you today. I was shocked and even after explaining the hoops I had to jump through to make sure to make this appointment, the representative who was more concerned with his music playing through his earbuds then the fact, that this company clearly lost a customer. This place is very tricky if care isn't taken you'll either speed right past the place so get off the phones and just drive slowly. This is the 1st and the cleanest pep-boys that I have ever been too. Not only are they clean but they are very very helpful and understanding. I was shopping around for places that sell continental. I normally get continental tires so I called Meineke which isn't too far from my job. I called Meineke to get a quote because they sell continental tires but they are RUDE AS HELL! especially the one located on church avenue but, that's another story. Anyway I needed to get new tires. Hence Pep-boys don't sell them so me being cheap I decided to go with whatever sale that pep-boys had which were buy 4 tires get 1 free made from infinity. However, my car doesn't fit infinity tires. So when the mechanics were installing the tires there tires didn't fit. Feeling stupid the mechanics told me and I got the wide body tires by Hancock which fit perfectly. The mechanics weren't mad at all for any time wasted and quickly got the matter resolved. The tires that I actually received are much better than the infinity's that I was getting before. It was even a benefit for me because Hancock tires had a special with $100.00 off plus I get an add. $80.00 rebate vs. the infinity tires buy 4 get 1 free. I love my new tires it gives my car a better look with slick design. read more

After having a horrible experience at another repair shop, it was an absolute pleasure to come here and deal with the pleasant staff. My car was seen promptly and the mechanics made sure to tell me what was needed, educate me on my vehicle, and make suggestions. Usually, going to the mechanic is headache, but every time I come here it's a painless transaction. Pep Boys also has a point system and sends you gift cards once you've reached a certain number of points; this alone is a huge incentive for me to continue my business here. I was able to use a $25 gift card on a $37 inspection. Furthermore, my car was taken immediately and I waited no more than 1 hour during my last two visits. I know this probably isn't the case all the time, so it's best to go during early afternoon on a weekday! read more

I went in for an oil change, but they didn't have the one I had an appointment for. The assistant manager was super helpful and upgraded to full synthetic without any extra charges. The mechanic was also very helpful in explaining the tire tread life. Great service! read more

Pepboys took over part of the old R&S Strauss location on Utica Avenue. I'm glad they did because it is so convenient to my home, only a mile away. I arrived there about 1:30 PM and it was at a good time. My car was pulled in for a state inspection within minutes (also a free brake inspection.) I was worried that I need both sets of brakes for my Honda Accord (no squealing, but dealership had indicated they were getting low.) To my surprise, no new brake pads were needed at this time. The staff were upfront and truthful. They could have hosed me for a several hundred dollars in repair, but didn't. I was still good for approx. 6 months they said. The service was expert and the staff truly the most professional. I recommend them to anyone who wants/needs quality work done. read more

Great staff, very friendly. However, I was there last Friday and they don't check half the stuff they are supposed to check with the courtesy vehicle inspection. My mechanic warned me of a bunch of things that they were supposed to check, but didn't check including my power steering fluid. read more

My husband and I purchased a battery two years ago from the East Tremont location which turned out to be defective. We experienced car trouble while running errands and immediately went to the nearest pep boys here in Brooklyn. Well the manager Lyndelle was very unhappy to serve us. My husband politely asked for assistance telling Lyndelle that we're having an issue with our battery and would like to use the warranty. Lyndelle huffed and said he would need to have the receipt and if he had to go under the hood and the battery wasn't the issue he'd have to charge us $16.99, as though $16.99 would have deterred us from seeking assistance meanwhile our car is completely dead. Of course we did not care about the $16.99 and unfortunately we did not have the receipt readily available but asked if he could possibly look it up in their system. Reluctantly he searched and found our name but not the order number. My husband asked how could he find the information he needed us to give him and with a displeased look on his face as though we were interrupting his leisure time, Lyndelle advised my husband to call the original place of purchase. As my husband proceeded to call the E Tremont location my mother had a question for Lyndelle and he abruptly said he had to use the restroom. Then Amanda and Ronald came to our rescue! Lyndelle made us feel even worse than we were already feeling being stuck so far away from home. Amanda and Ronald turned our experience around. Amanda saw how unpleased we were with the service we were receiving from Lyndelle, or lack thereof, and took control of the situation. Amanda listened to what we thought the issue was with our car and got to work Ronald assisting her. They had smiles on their faces and were eager to help us. Lyndelle then came outside and was telling Amanda to move her car because he wanted to go home, he was ready to leave without ordering to part we needed. Amanda took the initiative to call and order the part when Lyndelle then felt the need to take over. Had Amanda and Ronald not been there our experience would have been horrible. I also observed how Amanda managed the other jobs that were coming in never once forgetting us. She deserves to be a manager and Lyndelle needs to learn from her stellar example. I would never ever visit this location again unless Amanda is there. We received the part and was able to swap out our battery and now our car is as good as new. I wish I could give 5 stars for the amazing service we received from Amanda and Ronald. However with Lyndelle as the manager there it will just receive two. read more

I love taking my car to this location. I make an appointment, get there on time and have never had a problem getting my car fixed. Unlike with other shops, I've never had to bring my car back for the same issue after I was told the problem was fixed. I would always sit and wait for my car to be completed at other locations, but here, I have no problem dropping off my car and waiting for the call regarding what is wrong, what needs to be done and how long it will take to complete the job. The time given is always an estimate and I have never felt that the mechanics didn't do all they could to stick to the time frame given. Unfortunately, it is a small location and some parts need to be ordered to complete some services or repairs but i would take that since everything else there is outstanding. I would recommend this location to anyone that needs to service or have a problem with their car diagnosed. read more
