I drove from Riverside to meet my girlfriend for dinner nearby this Pep Boys boys location and the check tire pressure light showed 3 out 4 for tires low. I pulled in after they closed the bay doors and walked in the store. The employees were awesome and opened a bay door to help me after hearing my situation. They quickly filled all my tires to the correct pressure and got me on my way safely. I enjoyed dinner with my girlfriend and got her home safely with no sign of the tire pressure going down. I'm very grateful for their kindness and would highly recommend anyone to give them their business. These store‑level issues were the start of a much larger communication problem. After the service, I received the standard internal survey that is automatically sent after a visit. I completed it honestly, but this was separate from my official complaint to corporate. The survey did not prompt them to address the communication issues I raised, nor did it trigger any corrective action. When I contacted corporate directly, I made multiple follow‑ups and was told several times that Field Leadership would contact me. No one ever did. My requests for escalation to Executive Customer Relations or Corporate Operations Leadership were ignored, and I continued receiving template responses that did not address the communication failures. Eventually, I received a call from the store, but at that point the issue had escalated far beyond what the store could address. The escalation chain failed at every level: store, Customer Relations, Field Leadership, and Operations oversight. The standard survey captured my feedback, but the official complaint process showed no accountability or follow‑through. After five follow‑ups and no meaningful communication, it's clear the issue is not the repair itself but the complete breakdown in accountability and communication. Brenda was really nice at the front. I needed an oil change and tire rotation. They said they would rotate my tires for free, which is great, however they put it on my invoice but when I inspected my tires, I discovered that they never rotated the tires. I was also charged a $10 fee for resetting the computer. Edit: I just discovered that they refilled my coolant for free, a $20-$45 savings. Plus one star back. read more

Today was the first time I experienced horrible customer service at the PepBoys Cerritos (South Street) location. My family has patronized this establishment for at least 15+ years; personal and company issued vehicles - I have personally recommended family and friends use this location for tires and service repairs. Today, Abraham Rios (claims he's the only location manager), tried to steal $200 from my family by amending the original quoted service price for an alternator repair. When I had the vehicle towed to the facility by AAA I shared with Abraham that the vehicle was being towed and I needed an alternator - he's initial response was are you sure, you may need a battery. My response was, no I need an alternator. Abraham twisted his face and said you may need a battery, how do you know you need an alternator. I paused thinking I just shared the vehicle is being towed and I only need an alternator - I verbalized again I don't need a battery, just the alternator. Abraham says who told you that AAA. I responded, yes - two (2) AAA techs gave me the same diagnosis. Abraham began typing on his computer, then stated to me we can check the battery with our diagnostic to make sure it's not the battery - that would be $15.99. I repeated back $15.99. Abraham said yes. I immediately said I do not need that, just the alternator. Abraham began typing again - he finally gave me the quote of $1,074 for the alternator - parts and labor. I repeated $1,074 - Abraham said yes $1,074. I said let me call my husband - so I stepped away, called my husband, and shared the quote. I returned to the counter and told Abraham my husband said no. I left the facility and returned to work. I returned back to the PepBoys, approached Abraham and shared I talked to my husband and he said go away with the service. Abraham called me to advise that the battery looked like it needed to be replaced and my front headlamp was out. I told Abraham my husband can address the front headlamp and the battery was okay. Abraham proceeded to tell me that I could get pulled over for the headlamp and I should contact AAA about the battery warranty because it was leaking acid. I told Abraham my husband handled that last time with AAA so I'll have him address that. He said okay, your vehicle is almost ready. I was pleased that the vehicle was ready for pickup after only being there a few hours with no appointment. That feeling was short-lived because when I retrieved the vehicle Abraham charged me $1,275 (I was so upset that it may have been $1,274 - I'll keep saying $1,275 for the sake of conveying the story). I questioned what happened to the $1,074 - his response was it was always $1,275. I challenged the facts because I would have quoted my husband $1,275, not $1,074 (I definitely know it was $1,074 because Kia Cerritos quoted me $1402.80 labor, parts, warranty). Abraham's rude, condescending, sexist response was uncalled for. Throughout the debate over the quote I never resulted in calling him an outright liar, but to tell me I must be having a bad day speaks volumes to his character and the type of individual PepBoys elected to employ. I told Abraham I've been a loyal customer of PepBoys; never requesting a break in price, never demanding a special coupon, and referring friends and family to their establishment - that will definitely stop. Abraham then tells me fine I'll give you a discount - he immediately typed on his computer and the new price reflected $1,146.82. I told Abraham (repeatedly) no, put the price back to $1,275 - if he's standing on that was always the original quote then put it back so I can swipe my card. I told him I'm not having a bad day, I don't play games, I too work in customer service, and I have the money - the fact he tried to raise the price after service was completed is appalling. Abraham refused to change the final invoice back to $1,275 - at this point we argued over him putting the final quote back to what he alleged was the original quote. At this point I was beyond disgust so I paid the $1,146.82 and left the location. PepBoys has lost a loyal customer (family/customers), and I will be posting this through various platforms that provide an opportunity to leave a review on an establishment. read more

I had my oil changed here over a year ago and it was fine. I went back 1 month ago and my car was making a scary sound the moment I left. I live 25 miles away so took it to my mechanic in LA and found out they didn't screw my skid plate back on completely so it's been loose and banging around. They also threw the screws away so I have to pay another mechanic hundreds for parts and labor to order new screws and reattach. I've called 3 times over the past month and they haven't refunded me. I was given a specific price for an oil change for my Mercedes Sprinter over the phone, but when I arrived the next day, the front desk staff changed the price and refused to budge. The website has special discounts that they do not offer in the store. Installing includes rotating (if applicable) and balancing of the tires. I save approximately $27 online. Wow things have improved in my opinion I made a reservation online and came in and though it took longer than I expected I still got my car in a much more reasonable time than other times I've been there. Service was good they did a inspection as well...Oil change with $20 coupon when i did the Online appointment automatically applied. tire rotation and air check...and since I was there I got the air filter replaced as well. Wendy is great. I needed new tires and was looking for a specific brand. Wendy explained how different tires services give divergent prices. And one should be aware of the TIN (the year the tire was made) which accounts how nonreputable outlets can sell at a lower price, because they sell older stock. PepBoys like Costco get theirs from the same vendor. Wendy does not do "hard sell" techniques but explains clearly what I needed and what I don't. I also notice she has a pleasant and friendly rapport with customers. I asked how she seems to master her craft. And she said she's been here for 20 years. Look for Wendy. The others are also great, like the mechanic Casper. He explained the service he was going to do. I felt assured that he was doing a great job. Gio who took over Wendy during her break is as knowledgeable and trustworthy. Called about an oil change. Done it myself many times. I gave them the year, make and model. Told me the price was a little over $40 but there was a 25% coupon online making the oil change a little over $30. Downloaded the coupon, made an appointment online and headed over. They didn't have my appointment but said they would work me in. But now the cost was $50 with the coupon lowering the price to over $40 and I needed 7 quarts of oil. The worst part is that the dude told me that every time the brake pads get replaced, the rotors will also have to be replaced. That's BS. They wanted to charge me $1300. I took it to the dealership that I usually go to for a second opinion and they told me that the brakes and rotors are still in good condition. Pep Boys also told me that the fluids were low, but I just recently had them topped off. From now on, I will drive farther to my trusted dealership than drive a few miles to this pep boys location. So took my wife's car here and purchased four new tires, installation and alignment. After paying the sales person told me the mechanic was at lunch. When the mechanic came back from lunch he was removed from my car project and put onto another car project. So now here comes the second mechanic that works on my car for five minutes, and yes indeed now it was his lunch time and he promptly left. When he came back from lunch and continued working on my car he abruptly stopped when a cute young girl came in and needed air in her tires. He filled all her tires and then proceeded to flirt with her for another ten minutes while the office sales person stood there watching him but not telling him to get back to work. Wow Pep Boys your sign in the lobby mentioned good fast service, I could not disagree more. I hope a regional manager reads this post and takes a trip to this location. Complete incompetence. This place used to be decent but in just under a year it's gone to disarray. New manager Wendy has definitely made things worse for both employees and customers. I used to come once a month for oil changes since I was driving 5k+ miles a month. All me mechanics here are novice at best except two. Would no longer trust them to do any major service, at least at this location. They fail to honor warranties on year and a half product when it's 3 years, could lead to potential civil litigation/ class action if they keep doing this (based on reviews I'm not the only one) Would only recommend this place if you want a last minute oil change. That's it, no other fluids. Proceed with caution if coming here for anything beside a oil change, take advantage of coupons for the service and make sure they apply it. I came here because I needed an alignment on my truck. The Manager that helped me told me that I needed new tires. I said ok I'll keep that in mind but all I want is an alignment for now. Got the alignment and now my car pulls to the right. So 2 days later I came back to the Pep Boys and the service advisor tells me that he has to keep my car all day to correct problem. I told him that I can't leave my car all day. He then calls the Manager and the Manager said that the alignment could be bad because I need new tires. This is what the service advisor told me, I did not speak directly to the Manager because the service advisor told me that the Manager was out to lunch. So I appreciate that the Manager answered, but my alignment is bad because they did a bad job. Not because I need new tires. It was better before they touched my truck. I even suggested putting new tires on if he could guarantee that after the new tires the truck would drive straight, he said he could not guarantee that. Good customer service would have been to take my vehicle right away and fix it because you Pep Boys did a shit job. But no they told me leave the Vehicle all day. So I asked for my money back because I have a 90 day warranty. They said they don't give money back. So I will go and pay again to get it done correctly. Lessons leaned. 1. Pep Boys warrenty is a lie 2. Pep Boys can't even do an alignment or they lie to get you to purchase more things. 3. I will never shop at Pep Boys again 4.
