Today was the first time I experienced horrible customer service at the PepBoys Cerritos (South Street) location. My family has patronized this establishment for at least 15+ years; personal and company issued vehicles - I have personally recommended family and friends use this location for tires and service repairs. Today, Abraham Rios (claims he's the only location manager), tried to steal $200 from my family by amending the original quoted service price for an alternator repair. When I had the vehicle towed to the facility by AAA I shared with Abraham that the vehicle was being towed and I needed an alternator - he's initial response was are you sure, you may need a battery. My response was, no I need an alternator. Abraham twisted his face and said you may need a battery, how do you know you need an alternator. I paused thinking I just shared the vehicle is being towed and I only need an alternator - I verbalized again I don't need a battery, just the alternator. Abraham says who told you that AAA. I responded, yes - two (2) AAA techs gave me the same diagnosis. Abraham began typing on his computer, then stated to me we can check the battery with our diagnostic to make sure it's not the battery - that would be $15.99. I repeated back $15.99. Abraham said yes. I immediately said I do not need that, just the alternator. Abraham began typing again - he finally gave me the quote of $1,074 for the alternator - parts and labor. I repeated $1,074 - Abraham said yes $1,074. I said let me call my husband - so I stepped away, called my husband, and shared the quote. I returned to the counter and told Abraham my husband said no. I left the facility and returned to work. I returned back to the PepBoys, approached Abraham and shared I talked to my husband and he said go away with the service. Abraham called me to advise that the battery looked like it needed to be replaced and my front headlamp was out. I told Abraham my husband can address the front headlamp and the battery was okay. Abraham proceeded to tell me that I could get pulled over for the headlamp and I should contact AAA about the battery warranty because it was leaking acid. I told Abraham my husband handled that last time with AAA so I'll have him address that. He said okay, your vehicle is almost ready. I was pleased that the vehicle was ready for pickup after only being there a few hours with no appointment. That feeling was short-lived because when I retrieved the vehicle Abraham charged me $1,275 (I was so upset that it may have been $1,274 - I'll keep saying $1,275 for the sake of conveying the story). I questioned what happened to the $1,074 - his response was it was always $1,275. I challenged the facts because I would have quoted my husband $1,275, not $1,074 (I definitely know it was $1,074 because Kia Cerritos quoted me $1402.80 labor, parts, warranty). Abraham's rude, condescending, sexist response was uncalled for. Throughout the debate over the quote I never resulted in calling him an outright liar, but to tell me I must be having a bad day speaks volumes to his character and the type of individual PepBoys elected to employ. I told Abraham I've been a loyal customer of PepBoys; never requesting a break in price, never demanding a special coupon, and referring friends and family to their establishment - that will definitely stop. Abraham then tells me fine I'll give you a discount - he immediately typed on his computer and the new price reflected $1,146.82. I told Abraham (repeatedly) no, put the price back to $1,275 - if he's standing on that was always the original quote then put it back so I can swipe my card. I told him I'm not having a bad day, I don't play games, I too work in customer service, and I have the money - the fact he tried to raise the price after service was completed is appalling. Abraham refused to change the final invoice back to $1,275 - at this point we argued over him putting the final quote back to what he alleged was the original quote. At this point I was beyond disgust so I paid the $1,146.82 and left the location. PepBoys has lost a loyal customer (family/customers), and I will be posting this through various platforms that provide an opportunity to leave a review on an establishment. read more

They said they would rotate my tires for free, which is great, however they put it on my invoice but when I inspected my tires, I discovered that they never rotated the tires. The website has special discounts that they do not offer in the store. Installing includes rotating (if applicable) and balancing of the tires. I save approximately $27 online. I'll take it - great value! The staff was friendly and helpful. And one should be aware of the TIN (the year the tire was made) which accounts how nonreputable outlets can sell at a lower price, because they sell older stock. PepBoys like Costco get theirs from the same vendor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wendy does not do "hard sell" techniques but explains clearly what I needed and what I don't.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also notice she has a pleasant and friendly rapport with customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I asked how she seems to master her craft. Wow things have improved in my opinion I made a reservation online and came in and though it took longer than I expected I still got my car in a much more reasonable time than other times I've been there. Service was good they did a inspection as well...Oil change with $20 coupon when i did the Online appointment automatically applied. tire rotation and air check...and since I was there I got the air filter replaced as well. Told me the price was a little over $40 but there was a 25% coupon online making the oil change a little over $30. Downloaded the coupon, made an appointment online and headed over. They didn't have my appointment but said they would work me in. But now the cost was $50 with the coupon lowering the price to over $40 and I needed 7 quarts of oil. SHADY PEOPLE! Do NOT go to this location. They will rip you off to make a commission. They told me I had to get my brake pads replaced. The worst part is that the dude told me that every time the brake pads get replaced, the rotors will also have to be replaced. That's BS. They wanted to charge me $1300. I took it to the dealership that I usually go to for a second opinion and they told me that the brakes and rotors are still in good condition. Pep Boys also told me that the fluids were low, but I just recently had them topped off. From now on, I will drive farther to my trusted dealership than drive a few miles to this pep boys location. Complete incompetence. This place used to be decent but in just under a year it's gone to disarray. New manager Wendy has definitely made things worse for both employees and customers. I used to come once a month for oil changes since I was driving 5k+ miles a month. All me mechanics here are novice at best except two. Would no longer trust them to do any major service, at least at this location. They fail to honor warranties on year and a half product when it's 3 years, could lead to potential civil litigation/ class action if they keep doing this (based on reviews I'm not the only one) Would only recommend this place if you want a last minute oil change. That's it, no other fluids. Proceed with caution if coming here for anything beside a oil change, take advantage of coupons for the service and make sure they apply it. My last visit it was not applied and they failed to refund me even after I mentioned discount 4 times, blamed it on computer issues, which seem to happen often with their system. read more

I came here because I needed an alignment on my truck. The Manager that helped me told me that I needed new tires. I said ok I'll keep that in mind but all I want is an alignment for now. Got the alignment and now my car pulls to the right. So 2 days later I came back to the Pep Boys and the service advisor tells me that he has to keep my car all day to correct problem. I told him that I can't leave my car all day. He then calls the Manager and the Manager said that the alignment could be bad because I need new tires. This is what the service advisor told me, I did not speak directly to the Manager because the service advisor told me that the Manager was out to lunch. So I appreciate that the Manager answered, but my alignment is bad because they did a bad job. Not because I need new tires. It was better before they touched my truck. I even suggested putting new tires on if he could guarantee that after the new tires the truck would drive straight, he said he could not guarantee that. Good customer service would have been to take my vehicle right away and fix it because you Pep Boys did a shit job. But no they told me leave the Vehicle all day. So I asked for my money back because I have a 90 day warranty. They said they don't give money back. So I will go and pay again to get it done correctly. Lessons leaned. 1. Pep Boys warrenty is a lie 2. Pep Boys can't even do an alignment or they lie to get you to purchase more things. 3. I will never shop at Pep Boys again 4. I will never have service done at Pep Boys again 5. Customer service means nothing to Pep Boys 6. That is why Pep Boys is closing and slowly dying 7.
