Very Bad Experience At Pep Boys. Buyers Beware!!! Here are my problems with Pep Boys POOR, SLOPPY WORK Examples- 1) I had tires replaced several years ago. They did not fasten the spare correctly on the bottom of the vehicle where it is stored. It was actually very dangerous as the spare was dangling, could have fallen off and damage my vehicle/other vehicles, cause an accident, or even injure/kill someone. 2) I had my brakes replaced and rotors resurfaced here . When braking, the car would shake from side to side. They did not resurface the rotors correctly. 3) They left grease smudges on the inside of the vehicle, by the door handle and on the inside of the door. 4) They stripped a lug nut during tire replacement (see photograph). I was watching them when it happened. This occurred because they were so short staffed, a salesman was putting on the tires. He was not qualified to do so and should not be working on the vehicles. POOR TIME ESTIMATION 1) I have come before for oil change and tire rotation WITH an appointment. It took over 3 hours. 2) I came for tire replacement and alignment, again WITH APPOINTMENT. Came at 12:00pm, they told me it would take 3 hours. They finished at 9:30 pm.... AND THEY DIDN'T DO ALIGNMENT. So basically it took 9.5 hours to change tires (and stripped the lug nut in the process). POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE They would have different stories or excuses of why this was occurring in their store, but depending on who you talk to in the store, they would have a different story to tell. JUST TELL THE TRUTH. Never, ever going back. I highly advise you to avoid this amateur circus at all costs!!!! read more

Be patient, they seem understaffed and busy, especially during peek hours. Brownie points: 1) I was prepared to clean the rust off my car battery; they did that without me having to mention that in my requested services ('cause I thought they charge for that) 2) Didn't know which filter needed changing; they checked free of charge and informed me, requesting approval of that service as well. 3) They gave me additional information about potential future maintenance: wipers and tires. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. This place is so unprofessional. My husband was involved in a near death car accident in one of their rental vehicles with hertz. Right when we walked in the black lady with the grey dreads immediately said "why is there so many people in here" with an attitude without even greeting us first or asking how we were doing and proceeded to tell us to sign in and wait outside without even asking what we needed. I have had some trouble in the past with my truck losing power and jus shutting off. Now here's where I have to admit I know what the problem was and I kinda just kept fixing it. It was just a ground wire from the chassis to the battery and was just to lazy and let it decay . So I stopped by and figure I could just ask one of the Tex if they had a replacement or what I should do and he told me it didn't have to be the braided wire that was there so I just grabbed a peace of electric wire I had in the truck and closed the loop. I have been coming to this location for years now. It is located in a small plaza but it takes over about half the parking spaces which allows its customers to have easy parking. The store recently redid their in store layout which makes it seems more busy but it is still kept very clean and tidy The service attitudes of the employees are pretty good and I haven't ran into any service issues. I was able to take advantage of their free battery replacement of my Bosch product that gave out earlier than expected by the manufactures warranty. They made the switch out easy and painless. My husband also recently had his battery changed on location for his convertible Saturn. He got a really good cyber Monday deal (online) which also allowed him to add the labor fee ($45) for full service. The process took about 1 hour and 40mins since his vehicle's battery location required removal of his wheel and careful displacement of the fender. The technicians are knowledgeable and did a great job. I will continue to come to this location for my auto part needs. read more

Popped in this morning to find a replacement bulb for my car's headlight. Walked in and asked a lady working there if she could help and she asked me a few q's about the make/model of my car and whether it was for the high or low beams and within less than 5 mins I was out the door with my bulb. She even let me know that there were different brightness options for the new bulb. Thanks, Pep Boys lady! Very pleased with the experience. NEVER TAKE YOU CAR HERE!! THESE PEOPLE WILL SCAM YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY AFTER BREAKING YOUR CAR. I brought my car in there because it was smoking but running. they called me and told me they fixed the problem and I paid $1200 but when I started the car it wouldn't even start. They said "Oh well there's nothing we can do and we're not giving you a refund take it somewhere else." I got in contact with the general manager to see if there is something that he can do. He pretty much said the same thing and then lied and said that the car was running before I got there and he had CCTV footage of it. I asked him to send me the footage multiple times, and he keeps ignoring the request for that and a full list of what they did to my car. I went there one day to get some stuff out of my car but I needed it for work and they had half of my engine sitting in the front seat getting engine dirt, oil, and god knows what else on my interior. It's been over a month and they still have my car. Whenever I call corporate, the location, or the general manager, they say they'll get back to me but never do. At this point, I'm getting ready to start a class action lawsuit for false advertisement because their website says that they will or can do a lot of things that are not being done at this location. And I know they have done it to other people. So took my wife's car here and purchased four new tires, installation and alignment. After paying the sales person told me the mechanic was at lunch. When the mechanic came back from lunch he was removed from my car project and put onto another car project. So now here comes the second mechanic that works on my car for five minutes, and yes indeed now it was his lunch time and he promptly left. When he came back from lunch and continued working on my car he abruptly stopped when a cute young girl came in and needed air in her tires. He filled all her tires and then proceeded to flirt with her for another ten minutes while the office sales person stood there watching him but not telling him to get back to work. Wow Pep Boys your sign in the lobby mentioned good fast service, I could not disagree more. I hope a regional manager reads this post and takes a trip to this location. I went on the Pepboys website to book an appointment for an Oil change for my car at the store in Artesia California. The website indicated an open appointment time of 10:00 am the next day, thus I accepted it. I was sent a corresponding email confirming the appointment. I showed up at 9:35am (20 minutes early) the next day as per the appointment. The manager then told me it would be at least a "two hour wait, AND he could not guarantee he could get it done by then! I asked him "what then is the use of the appointment system for Pepboys?" He had absolutely no credible answer? I told him it's fortunate for me that there are plenty of shops that offer oil changes and left the store. I called pep boys inquiring about tire rotation services and there was no charge per conversation so I made an appointment for Saturday morning at 10 am. I showed up fifteen minutes late and when I handed over my keys the host and I discussed that it would be a wait, estimated about an hour. 75 minutes later my car was still sitting in the front of the store, and the best part was that the host said my car was still being worked on in the service area... NOPE it had never left the front. I wouldn't have given such a low score if there was more communication and I felt like I didn't waste my time while waiting there. What's the point of an appointment? The wait is easily over two hours. The shortest it took was two hours even on those days they put 30-minute oil change promotion all over their shop. I can see the worker put FIVE HOURS of the deadline to my oil change appointment on the system on his computer. I've gone to this place for several years, and I've had it. Went to the Pep Boys for a tire balance on all four tires and for an alignment. Whole job took about 4 and a half hours. The car was sitting for 45 minutes before it was taken in. It would have been helpful if I would have been told what the wait time was, instead of waiting in the lobby for 4 and a half hours. Joel the service manager was nice enough to give me a coupon for $10 off. However, I had a feeling that the alignment and rotation were included with the purchase of tires. I was correct, but would have to look for the paperwork to get a refund. Since I bought the tires at a different location, I would have to get the alignment and tire rotation at that location to get the service free. There were guys doing nothing on their phone and just sitting there. I'm confused at this point and the guy tells me to put a plug in it until I come in for the patch. I double checked with the guy if they can patch it one it's plugged and he said absolutely. I proceed to purchase the plug kit from the store and install it. The next day I go in for the patch and a different guy at the desk says he can't patch it once it's plugged. WTF!!!! Now I have to buy a new $400 tire. The new guy helping just says the other guy shouldn't have said that sorry. This place is a joke. They have no clue what they are talking about. Do not shop here!!! read more

this review is specifically for the hertz that operates within pep boys. i came in, called multiple times to ensure i'd be accommodated, had a RESERVATION at 11 am, and didn't get helped until 3pm. they wouldn't update me on timing as they "had a list to get though". what's the point of a reservation then??? all that waiting and by the end of it, they couldn't help me. i had one worker say they could, then another say they couldn't. i asked why i had been told multiple times that i would be accommodated. they have no sense of cohesion and everything is a mess. He literally had to ask someone where the stuff was. Terrible customer service, no accountability or apology... everyone seems apathetic like they could care less if they worked here. You try to upsell me even though I literally watch you mishandle every customer up until it was my turn... why should I trust you? Nail in the coffin never again... If you want a lube pay the extra money for Valvoline you sit comfortably in your car while getting the absolute best service, super fast and thorough. Why the 4 star review?? It would have been 5 if the service dept. did not exist... I had been going to Autozone and Oreillys for parts recently, but received a pepboys coupon and the wifes car needed parts. So in we went. I felt welcome asking questions, I never at any point in my multiple inquiries felt rushed,He was also taking time helping coworkers, but in a way where I never felt I wasn't getting his full attention or wasn't his priority. He took the time to look up a whole slew of parts, comparing features and pricing. While at the same time providing awesome advice and banter without ever feeling like he was trying to shmooze me to sell me parts. All around Grade A experience. I thanked him whole heartedly since I feel that this kind of care that used to be a regularity is now uncommon. His only response was, "Seriously anytime." (like it's all in a days work that's what I do...) the clincher, "If you could... please leave us a good review on yelp." Above and beyond man, businesses rely on yelp, in today's day and age it's more important than ever and he knows it. In order for him to keep his job and continue helping people the way he does. He made it a point to help the store solidify future business. A model employee... Watch out Pepboys if I ever open up a business, I am going to try to steal him. "Jose" takes the time to ask how my car is running even if I'm taking it in for a routine oil change. Today when he asked me I responded that my car had been non-responsive lately when I accelerate. He told me he would have it checked out, and I'm so glad he did. He discover that the transmission oil was VERY low and called me and to advise adding Trans. Oil - which he did. Ridiculous. Lost my whole day just to come back here to tell them do their job. Came in to get 2 cars oil change, tires rotated, headlight fixed, and check a tire that went flat that morning. 5 hours later, came back to only oil change done and they said they did everything on the list. Um, my light was still out, tire pressure light still on, and no idea if flat tire was checked out since we had put air in it that morning. Talked to the manager who had put he work order together himself... he went to check out the video from the day and assured us all tires were rotated and pumped with air. The mechanic tried putting air in again and my tires were at 20 psi! The manager, Guillermo, had told me the light would go off on its own if I drive around for a mile.... Now I'm here for another 40 mins or so getting our head lights fixed, tires rotated, tires checked out, .... also, they assured us they'd call us when everything was done (we emphasized please call us), and they of course didn't. Ridiculous Edit: Just found a nail in our tire.... and the manager tried to assure us they did all the work and stormed off without an apology. Will be calling pep boys corporate tomorrow. Been coming to this Pep Boys in Cerritos for years to get basic maintenance like oil changes and such. I recently went there to have my after market tires/wheeels removed and my stock tires/wheels put back on. Basically a swap. They did the swap and balanced the tires. Within hours of me leaving my tire light (Check TPM !) comes on. I was super busy and the car seemed to be driving fine so I went back about a week later to see what the problem was. I assumed maybe my sensor was damaged or something, but when I returned they said they believed one of my stock wheels and tire was damaged. I didn't think too much of it, because the stock rims and tires had been sitting in my garage for a couple years. I go buy a refurbished stock rim and purchase a new tire from Pep Boys. They put it on. The first few miles it seems to be driving just fine. Then. The tire light comes back on, and now my steering wheel is wobbly. I take the car back the next day. They still have no clue what the problem is and ask me to come back next weekend when their "suspension specialist" will be in. After almost a month of dealing with them, I finally decide that I'm over it, and I take my car over to my local tire shop. Before I could even finish my story the guy says "I bet they didn't take the "hub rings" off!" They throw the car on the lift and BOOM. Guess what? They didn't take the hub rings off. And according to the tire guy I'm lucky the tires/wheels didn't come off because they basically had to force them on. Are you kidding me? According to everyone I've spoken too in the tire community? This is something every tire shop knows. I know Pep Boys my not be the authority on tires, but they carry huge accounts with major companies and should know better. They aren't some maw and paw tire shop. So. After spending $100 initially for the tire swap and balance. Then another $180 for a new stock rim and tire. I'm out of $180 and had to pay someone else to fix the issue. I'm so disappointed with Pep Boys. I will no longer be bringing any of my vehicles there for any services. read more

They don't mess around, literally, if you understand my crude joke above. FREE ADVICE OF THE DAY WD-40 is a lubricant, penetrating oil, and water displacing spray. It was originally designed to prevent corrosion, but has many household uses, such as repelling water, lubricating joints and hinges, removing dirt and residue, and loosening stuck screws and bolts. Everyone should have a can of this in their garage. Now back to the review. They also have an automobile servicing station at this location, for handling your car's performance as well as the maintenance. Tires and electronics are also present, just like in many of their 740 stores and 7000 service stations in 35 states. The service department has some thieves, and no one will fess up. A few months ago I took my car to have the front breaks put in. At the time, I was told by one of the service reps that only my front breaks needed to be changed. At first I agreed and had the front breaks changed with Pep Boys ordered parts. A day later I came back with my OEM rear breaks (I had ordered them previously), and even though the service people advised against putting in the rear breaks because I still had padding left on my then current breaks, I wanted the breaks changed. In my mind, now I know better, I wanted the breaks to be put in around the same time so that I'd have to change them around the same time. From the get-go, it didn't seem they wanted to do the rear breaks. When I told them I had my own OEM parts of the rear breaks the service rep immediately told me that Pep Boys didn't provide a warranty even for the service. I agreed anyway and went ahead with the service knowing that Pep Boys was a reputable company. WRONG WRONG WRONG. The Pep Boys service department here has thief. Come to find out, just a few months later, and not even 10k miles, I already need rear breaks again. Hmm? Did the service guys ever even put in my OEM rear breaks? I think not. My gears are literally grinding. People bring their car to you because they trust the PEP BOYS name and you guys shit on it. I will never trust my car there again, ever. And now I'm paying more to have my rear breaks put in AGAIN. My father warned against going here especially when there's an auto body across the street that does QUALITY work for MUCH cheaper.
