I went in for new tires and alignment. The price was good with their buy 3 and get 1 free tires, and the location convenient so I called and made an appointment for noon. Got there right on time, was told it would be around 2 hours. 2.5 hours later I called, they said wasn't ready, I said but you already told me it would be ready in 2 hours, "well we've got lots of stuff coming in and out", I said "BUT I MADE AN APPOINTMENT". Why would "other stuff" be getting done, when I scheduled my car in? So okay, when will it be ready - 45 minutes. Gave it an hour. Went in and they told me wasn't ready. I was REALLY unhappy. I said forget the alignment I'll get it done somewhere else, I just want outta here! The service manager, Danny stepped in and asked if there was anything he could do to fix this. I said NO I'm never coming back! He then said he didn't want me leaving without getting it aligned after spending so much money on the tires and offered the alignment for FREE! So calmed my jets and said, sure for free! 20 minutes later it was done. So the customer service is FANTASTIC. Danny was more concerned for the customer than for the $$. I always get my oil change and tires replaced here and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is amazing and very understandable. I would definitely recommend:). If your not very familiar with cars you will complain about the wait but if you know about cars you will understand how much of a pain it is to get to just one part of your car, it's not always a fast and easy go process so I give props to the mechanics that go above and beyond for the costumers. Not only are they extremely helpful, but Tim Wells, the general manager, is very supportive, allowing local nonprofits hold car washes in the Pep Boys parking lot. I just brought my truck in for a simple oil change but received some of the best customer service and quality technician that I've had from a automotive service shop in I cant remember how long. I made my appointment online and printed out my coupons just to help things along, however Steve at the service counter was already on top of it. Greeted with a great persona, a introduction and a handshake. What more could you ask for? I also asked them to do a break inspection because I had some not so quality work done at Firestone in Concord, CA in which they told me that my rears were dangerously bad and in need of about $600 worth of work. After a quick oil change and Brake inspection my technician James Longway stated that my brakes were just fine. Receiving service like this and not being upsold unnecessary services gives me more than enough confidence to highly recommend PepBoys on Mangrove in Chico CA. I came here Saturday to get my bitch of a brake light fixed. They got me in right away which was awesome! I want to thank a guy named Travis, he was a life saver! You wouldn't think a Toyota Matrix would be a car that would be difficult to just change a break light-but it was!! Something has changed with the personal at this pepboys... i used to spend hundreds of dollars there at one point... my last experience with them was a smog check... called a week before to set up an appt.... showed up early and the guy said i wasn't even on the schedule! But he said he would fit me in... waited 3 hrs in their waiting area watching the Olympics.. walked outside to call a friend and noticed my car sitting near the side of the building with windows rolled down n the hot sun... and i thought they hadn't even got to it yet.... went back inside to check n see what the guy had to say and he said. oh yea it just finished... lol how convenient... needless to say it failed smog cause of a broken grommet on the pcv valve area... they quoted me with over 400 bucks to fix it!! Made an apt. the day before to have my truck smogged I came in at 4p.m was told it would take about 30-45mins the day b4, which is expected, I show up to my apt. & a different guy informs me that the process takes an hour which is a complete lie, I have worked the service counter and in the service shop at a Firestone previously for several years so a common tactic is to tell them the work takes longer than it does & when the work is finished sooner than they say, happy customer! well an hour and 15mins go by, & I notice the guy who told me an hour is making a personal call on his cell phone(unfortunately I did not get his name or I would paste it on this rant but he was fat, 300+ w/ glasses) so I suspect my truck hasn't moved an inch in the parking lot, & low and behold it hasn't, so I walk in to lose my mind but fortunately for my viewing pleasure he is off his phone now only to realize that while he was making a personal call during work hours that they had been robbed by a shoplifter, LOL completely his fault, he must be someone near management to still be there because there is no way a cancer like that wouldn't be removed from a corporate company unless they had some pull, 5 mins later he informs the other service reps he's leaving but not before muttering something "about the guy with the truck"just loud enough so I know it's about me but not loud enough to quite hear it all while staring at me on his way out, I walk up to the counter & demand my keys from a different service rep & he apologizes & tells me he will do it right now if I still want it done, I respond "how long? Another hour and a half?" He tells me 15-20mins. So I agree and 20 mins later here comes my keys, TBH the only problem seemed to be the disease of a manager/service rep whatever he was, the techs were busting ass in the back and so were the guys at the counter but cancer is cancer and because of the one employee I will never so much as buy an air freshener from Pep Boys again, nor will I recommend them to anybody ever. read more

Extremely poor service. They messed up on my brakes, so I brought my car in TWICE with an appointment each time. They were unable to look at my car each time because they were 'busy'. I don't have to pay for this service since my brakes are under warranty, so it makes sense they don't care about fixing my car first. However this was their error and they should be held responsible for getting it right and fixing it. Awful service and awful business. Go somewhere else and save yourself from a perpetual state of fury and hatred for this establishment. Hate you guys! read more

I would give a zero if it were possible. We sent my niece going to college there in Chico to Pep Boys thinking that being a national chain we could trust them. This was not the case. She had been having trouble with a short in her tail lights and gone in to get that repaired. They immediately upsold her to get a oil and filter change. She paid for her repair and left to find her car immediately started over heating. Mind you she had zero issues with this before they did this oil change. So she went back and was told she needs an additional $700 in repairs. My family and I are extremely angry with this repair and her treatment. We feel they caused this issue and they should be responsible to repair the issue. We advised our young woman Michaela to have her car towed to another mechanic for a diagnostic to determine the damage for possible legal action against this Pep Boys location. read more

Had a very annoying belt squeal on my car and since I am new to Chico trying to find a mechanic I can trust. I dealt with an older guy that seemed really honest and he helped fix the squeal and some other minor issues at a reasonable price. I was happy to work with him. After 3 months the squeal came back and I just dealt with it. Eventually car had trouble starting and I brought it back. This time I had a younger Tech handle the car. The invoice shows Scott and Carlos worked on m y car. He treated me in a way that seemed like he was sizing me up to see how much money he could get out of me, commenting on the nice bike I rode home from pep boys. They charged me $511 to replace the belts, and "replace a sensor" that at first was being ordered then they decided to use an in house one. Loose belts cause start up issues, that much I knew. All seemed extremely shady and this was a follow up to a fix that did not work the first time. So I essentially paid twice for a squeal fix, all in I paid about $650. My advice, don't get work done there, if you do, try to get the older guy, wish i remember his name. Depending on who you deal with, this is definitely a buyer beware place where it helps to know what the problem is before you walk through the door. read more

Excellent service! I thought my battery was bad, jumped my car and drove to the nearest auto parts strore; pep boys. The customer service guy, Joe, helped me immediately. He was super friendly, communicated constantly so I knew where things were at with my vehicle, and fixed all of my problems. Today was my first visit to Pep Boys and I'll never go anywhere else again. I brought my car in for a routine oil change. Not only was it the lowest price I've ever been charged (they voluntarily gave me a discount) but, the man who worked on my car also went out of his way to fix a simple problem with my windshield wiper fluid hose. The dealership my car came from was going to charge me 110 dollars just to look at it! But this genuine gentleman took it upon himself to MAKE MY DAY! I'm so pleased with my experience I'll forever be an exclusive Pep Boys customer and recommend them to everyone I know. read more

Went in to get a oil change and tires rotated and balance. Came out in worse condition. Tubing connecting the radiator and air filter were left unattached and the snaps are now missing. Tires drove rough and I thought they were out of balance. Pep Boys "did" the rotation and balance however the issue was still there. Took the car into a tire shop since I was out of town. The tread was coming off of the tire. Had to get them replaced. No way Pep Boys could have balanced the tire with the tread coming loose. Got a full refund. Makes me wonder if they changed the oil too. Avoid! read more

I am most definitely coming back here. The customer service and appreciation is shown throughout this entire store! I am a broke college student so paying for things on my car can get extremely pricey, and not having parental figures around to send in money whenever sucks! They really helped me get home for Christmas; I just lost my job and had been struggling to even put gas in my car, they knew how much of a struggle it was for me considering my two front tires had never been changed. The wire thread has been poking out for months. I was about to drive home to the Bay Area and they recommended I did not. I didn't have the money to pay for my tires so I figured I'll spend Christmas alone in Chico, they made it possible for me to get home and gave me two free tires so I could make it home in one piece in the pouring rain. Don't even bother going to this Pep Boys unless you enjoy getting ripped off. They gave me a laundry list of UNNECESSARY repairs. I went to a reputable mechanic recommended by a friend and found out that they were trying to rip me off. Would give zero stars if I could. Made an appointment for 1 o'clock, showed up on time, didn't get out of there until almost 3 and this was just for a standard oil change. But here's the worst part. They forgot to install my oil filter correctly so a few days later it came off and my oil exploded everywhere. If you know a thing or two about cars, this could have easily ruined my entire engine, turning it into around a $2,000 mistake. I had to go by my own oil filter and then another 5 quarts of oil. The only thing they did right was refund my money for the oil change and reimburse me for the oil I had to buy myself. Spend your money elsewhere! Even if it is a little more expensive, it's not worth it to go to cheap PepBoys! read more

Never again. Needed new radiator and have it put in. Quoted 670.00. I was flabergasted. They said well it takes three hours and you have to do this and that. I decided to just have my son and his roommate do it who is a mechanic. He said where he works the book says it takes 1and half hours. Well he had it done in 40 minutes. Only cost me two cases of beer. They will rip you off. Get quotes elsewhere. read more

I went to pep boys on monday for an oil change and to find out the knocking sound in my car. They said it was my transmission mount because it was cracked in half. Picked up vehicle, ordered part and found out that now they said I have a slight oil leak and my belt is torn a little. 2 days later picked up kids from school and the car barely made it home. Belts shredded, nipple at radiator was broke in half, which I was told that it looked like someone did it on purpose, antifreeze was all over my car. After getting it into another mechanic. The transmission mount was not bad, it was my strut mounts. They had to replace the tensioner pulley and both belts and go to the dealership to order the part that had been broken which caused antifreeze to spray all over the belts. Never had an oil leak until then either. Thanks to Pep Boys I paid $197.00 plus an additional $463.79 to fix their mistakes. Still haven't got the strut mounts done since I was robbed of so much money in one week read more

I'm not sure why I came back again. Last time it took 3 hours for an oil change and they broke my oil cap. This time they couldn't find our appointment so we left the car here went to lunch came back and its still parked out front. When we asked how much longer they said they didn't know because the tech went to lunch and they do not know when they left because they leave when they want and don't tell anyone. Its not worth the discount i get in the mail. My time is valuable and sitting in a hard chair waiting isn't worth it. Next time i will go somewhere else. read more

Honestly worse service I've ever had at a repair shop. My girlfriend and I have gone there 3 times to get one simple problem with the starter fixed and each time we have gotten back a few weeks later, the same problem with the car occurs, also on the phone we were redirected to a lady who had no clue what she was doing even when all we were asking for was a tow to the pep boys. When the customer gives up and calls you, don't act like you've never heard of him before. Nb , this is a management problem, not a staff problem. Because I purchased my tires at Tire Rack they recommended Pep Boys for the installation. Not only did Pep Boys of Chico put the tires on the wrong wheels, they did not put in the recommended tire pressure for each tire. After driving to my destination over 500 miles away, I noticed the tires were improperly installed...the arrows turning the wrong way were a dead giveaway! After harassing me over the phone that I didn't know what I was talking about they made an appointment to correct their installation mistake. Again, they didn't check the air pressure in the tires causing the tire pressure sensor to sound the next day. At the time of the tire installation I had Pep Boys install a new battery. Only to find out a few months later that they didn't prepare the terminals prior to installation and they didn't put the caps on. My brand new battery with the terminals severely corroded. If I could give Pep Boys negative stars, I would. read more

So I went to Pepboys to see if I could find a valve covering for my 66 CHevy. These guys had no idea what I was even talking about. He asks me the make and model of the car so I tell him and instead of finding the part I need he proceeds to tell me how he almost bought a similar car expect he thought it didn't have enough power and his girlfriend said it was a girls car. WTF? Who says that to a customer, no matter what they drove, even a girly VW bug. Awesome Experience!! We developed a weird noise under the left front tire while driving to Chico to visit our son. Pep Boys was open a Sunday & put the car up on the hoist right away. The mechanic found a pebble behind the tire.... We were out in 10mins and they did at no cost!! I now have a much higher regard for Pep Boys!! read more

Ok, today I went to pepboys. I wanted an alignment done on my truck. 2 hours later I get a call saying my ball joints had gone bad. (well I replaced them myself 3 days ago so thats impossible). I tell the not-so-smart sounding "clerk" that and he comes back in a few seconds and says "oh its not those its the tie-rod arms". Well I then say "I replaced that too" and he says "its the inner tie rod arms" which I hadn't replaced. So all said in done, I go to pick up my not aligned truck and they tell me its 100$ for labor!!!! NOTHING had been done though! They tell me some of the stuff was loose, and they had it on and off the machine to do alignments 3 times so I am being charged for that! So in my anger I pay for it, get my keys and walk out. Guess what, I call Less shwab, and they will check first to make sure everything is working correctly, then try the alignment and will charge me NOTHING if they can't align it. Moral of the story, I got robbed by pepboys. read more
