We came in to get 4 new tires because they said they could get it in by 1:30 and have it finished in an hour to an hour and a half. We arrived and dropped our car off by 1:30. It is now 4 and they said it will still be another 20 minutes. I don't understand how it can take this long to change the tires. These guys are awesome! I had my car towed here after it broke down and wouldn't start. They diagnosed the problem quickly which was the alternator. I decided to purchase the part and install it myself since I know how, but I was very impressed with the customer service and politeness of the employees! The manager Tim even replaced my old fried battery with a new one (w/ 3yr warranty) for free! All he asked was for my old battery to keep as a "defect." With a new battery and the diagnostic for my car, I only ended up spending $11. I HIGHLY recommend coming here, I will definitely go to them for auto repair in the future. read more

Shitty service. I came into the store before my appointment by about 10 minutes. No one greeted me no one helped me. I was standing right under the sign that said services and no one helped. In fact there was another guy who was there before me and he got so annoyed and went to the other side and told one of the workers "should we come back tomorrow ???" It was really frustrating. So I followed the guy and I told them that I had an appointment and that I've been waiting for a while. The person working immediately said that I was standing in the wrong line and that I was in the parts line. When I actually wasn't I was under the sign that said services. So fix up ur signs pep boys. Days ago we decided to take the car back for them to fix. To my surprised the previous manager quit and a new one came on. Needless to say he took one look at our belt and said it was the wrong size. This place is horrible, took my car in at 12 to just get my spare tire swapped with my flat cause of two lug nuts being somewhat stripped and it took them 6 hours to get done, that's the worst service I have ever had, if I would of know they were gunna take that long I would've just gone to Home Depot and got an impact drill myself to take my lug nuts off. These guys are great! Always super friendly and knowledgable. Prompt to call you once your car is ready to go. A lively group of people that is helpful with whatever you need. I wasn't sure how my payment works because I work for a company that pays through a third party and they figured it all out for me. The auto parts side is just like any other auto parts store, average three stars. The service side of Pep Boys deserves 2 stars...at most. The people who work in the service department seem to not care about people's time. They have no problem making you wait 20 minutes just to talk to one of them. They do politely say "I'll be you in just a minute", but 20 minutes later they finally ask you for what you are at Pep Boys. During my experience, the service associates expect you to tell them what type of oil to put in your car (not the brand, I mean 5W-30, 10W-40, etc), how much oil, what type of oil filter, etc. I had to go out to the car and figure out all this information. I've never had someone ask me any of these questions when getting my oil changed. After my oil change, I came to find out in the next week or so that the car was leaking oil, just a very slow drip. When I got under the car to investigate, I found out that it wasn't a problem with the oil pan but Pep Boys installed the O-ring/crunch washer to prevent oil from leaking incorrectly. I had to go repurchase the O-ring/crunch washer, drain all the fresh oil, reinstall the O-ring/crunch washer, and put the oil back in the car. What a waste of time. Next time I would skip Pep Boys and do it myself, as it would have been much quicker. read more

Worst experience of my life. Waited 3 hours when I had an appointment and the only reason I didn't take longer is because they closed. They over book under staff and have terrible service I saw several people waiting for service for at least 15 minutes before an employee asked if they had been helped. Scheduled a tire change over a week in advance, yet still waited an hour and a half to have tires installed. The real problem was that the tech/cs person lied to me, said the TPMS must be replaced and serviced any time tires are changed or the dash light will be on until they are replaced. It's my first vehicle with a TPMS system so I believed him but after paying the extra $50 to have it done, research shows that TPMS sensors last on average 7-8 years, and do not need to be changed and serviced every time the tires are changed. read more

These guys are amazing! They turned a nightmare breakdown last summer (picture heading for a weekend camping trip with two young boys, two dogs, and a trailer full of gear, breaking down on the freeway), into a tolerable experience. They stored our trailer overnight free of charge, gave our whole crew rides to and from the hotel free of charge, and even cleaned up my dogs' vomit from the waiting room floor, all without batting an eye. I was happy to find a good selection of what I was looking for at a good price but the customer service was lacking! They did not have enough people at the registers (only 1 actually) and there was a line and the guy in front of me kept being asked by different staff members if he had been helped and when he said no they would say they would go find someone to help him- it happened many times until someone finally came over and that employee had to be paged on the intercom a few times. My engine light was on so I took it here-- there was an advertisement saying that the "first check up was free" or something like that. It was not. I ended up spending more than I intended just to get an oil change (around 86 bucks) They have EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE; It took them 5 hours to diagnose and fix what THEY told me would take an hour to do. I asked what took so long with my car but was never given a direct answer. Even though my car problem was fix, I do not like the customer service. I am very upset with my service at Pep Boys. I went in and asked them to fix a squeaking noise that my car was making, as well as change the oil. INSTEAD they came and told me that I needed belts replaced, a rim, two new wheels and my car to be re-aligned. This all came out to a ridiculous grand total. They told me they needed a couple days to find a new rim, meanwhile they changed my tires and because my bent rim was in the rear they were "forced" to move it to the front. This put me in an EXTREMELY dangerous situation because now my car was swerving all over the road. The worst part, they never fixed the squeal and they never even looked at my oil. I took my car to Doctor of Motors and they mechanic there fixed my squeak for free and changed all my fluids. His name is Jesse and I STRONGLY recommend taking your business there. I was recommended to take my car here. At first I was disappointed with the wait times like most people on here. What I learned was that they strive to provide quality service and the only way they can do this is if they take their time fixing our cars and assist each customer with patience. They have a high volume of people coming in and calling in. Unless you want your car falling apart as you drive away I would suggest that you understand that working on a car takes time and not everything goes as planned especially when they find more problems with your car or they dont have the part in stock. I have been taking my car to them since last year and I have been satisfied with them ever since. I would suggest that you take in the car to find out whats wrong with it , order any parts that are needed and then make an appointment with them or leave your car on a day that you dont need it. For example, i dont work weekends so i would take my car on a friday afternoon and have it back either saturday or sunday. These guys are amazing :) I am truly grateful for them! I had been shopping around for a set of tires for my SUV for a few weeks. Pep Boys always seemed to stay on my short list. Although I had never taken my car for service at Pep Boys, I thought I might as well try them out. First off...their website really helped in getting things prepared for me in regards to selecting the tires and scheduling my appointment. Walked in at my scheduled time, and checked me in quickly. Was treated well, warranties explained, refund for the 4th tire explained since they were on sale if you buy 3 you get the 4th for free. Of course you have to pay for the full set, but you get your mail in refund later. Paid for 4 tires & an alignment, which were very reasonably priced. Without charging me extra, they lubricated some parts on the brakes that were causing a clicking & squeaking noise. I didn't even mention it to them to begin with, but they took care of it. During checkout, I believe the guy's name was 'Tim', quickly also set me up with the rewards program & explained the details of how it works. I had shopped at Pep Boys for other little parts my car needed, but always did them myself. When I would ask the parts counter folks for assistance, they were always helpful. After checking out for my tires & alignment, I asked for help in selecting a fuel injector cleaner I can use and was recommended one by one of the staff members I've grown to trust over my visits. Within minutes of putting it in, my car was running smooth once again to go along with my spiffy new tires straight down the road. Awesome! I shall be returning to them for my car services I cannot do myself. Service, for me, was excellent. The one thing I had issues with was not even about the car, it was about the wi-fi service offered in the waiting area. While I waited for my tires to be mounted & alignment, I thought I'd take in a show using my smart phone on Hulu. However, kept getting 'no internet connection' although I had connected to the available wi-fi network. Once disconnected from it, was able to stream over 4G. That was my only issue. Pep Boys in general, meets my approval...and I'm a very picky guy & takes a lot to make me happy as far as my vehicles go. read more

It's Memorial weekend and the axle and wheel bearings on our truck decide to catch on fire! So who is open...Pep Boys. Never been there before because we live near San Francisco, so I was nervous. I get Tim and he is more than happy to help. I went to Pep Boys on a Saturday mid day to ask if they could look at my a/c and do a wuick break check. They said they were busy but if I brought it in first thing Sunday they would see me right away. So at 8:45am I was there to drop my car off. The counter person said two hours at max. I called around noon and got a kid who said he'll try and look at it noon. The whole reason I wanted it checked out was I was leaving for Texas on the morning. Which they knew. I called again around 5pm they said there was something majorly wrong with my brakes and to fix would be very expensive. And they are looking at the a/c and they will call me. They never called me. Kept my car overnight without calling me or asking and never called me in the morning. I had to call them. So I go in the morning asked why they never called me and to explain in better detail what was wrong with my rear brakes. The kid at the counter couldn't explain it well enough for me to trust them to work on my car. So I called Les Schwab and they took me right in. Explained that my rear backing plate needed to be adjusted and there was no charge. Happy to help you get on your way the guy at Les Schwab said to me. So DO NOT GO TO PEP BOYS!!!!!! read more

Very helpful. I had been told I needed a belt replace and two people told me to go here. I gave them a call and they were able to schedule me an appointment for the next day. They did try to up-sell on several things, but hey, I've worked retail.... gotta do it, I get it. They ran a couple tests and turned out I needed two belts replaces. They did it in a few hours, I paid, and I left. The young men who helped me were very nice and seemed competent at their jobs. So far, so good. No more mysterious noises from my car. read more

I've came here twice for $20 oil changes and they are always nice and get my car done in a very timely manner. Yesterday I went to get a new battery. Got a new battery, but before I checked out they started looking at my tires because when they had drove it around back they noticed my steering wheel was shaking... a lot (that was the next on my to do list for my ghetto car). They called me into the mechanic area and showed me that one of my tires had a huge rip in it and it could explode at any second. They also examined my other tires and one had a bubble and another was "raw". So, they got me to leave getting four new tires. I was bummed considering I was going in wanting to spend about $150 and now leaving spending $520. When it was time to pay they gave me a coupon, making my total reduce to $410!! Not only did I get a great deal but my car is running so smooth. They didn't have to look at my tires, that's not why I was there but they helped me out. This review is over a month late, but I am a college student and haven't had the time to do this or I kept forgetting. I went into Pep Boys on October 10th for an oil change and as always they checked my entire car including my brakes. I was told that I needed new front and back brakes ASAP because the ones on my car were old and the fluid level was really low in which they needed to be replaced, but I haven't heard any squeaking and my brake lights weren't on so I was confused. They kept trying to convince me that I needed new brakes and that it needed to be done now. I told them that I would have my uncle check on them to be sure and they tried to back it up by saying, "okay well maybe our device was messing up and it read your fluid levels wrong." I paid for my oil change and left. On October 13th, I went to my mechanic back at home and had them take a look at it and was told that was front brakes had 20% and my back had 70%. My mechanic usually charges for brake checks, but when I told them what happened at Pep Boys, they did it for free because they had a feeling that I was being lied to. I understand that I am a female, but I was mad because they tried to play me as if I were stupid and didn't know what I was doing. They tried to get to me to buy new front and back brakes and other services (see pictures) when I didn't even need them. I don't appreciate somebody trying to take advantage of me just because I am a girl and they believe that since they're guys, I'm going to believe what they say because they "know" cars. I had a scheduled appointment for an oil change with the Chico location for 1pm on 12-20-13. I arrived on time for my appointment and was told by the general manager, Tim, that the service would take about an hour. At 2:10 pm, after waiting patiently in the waiting area, I asked how much longer it would be til my vehicle was done, since it was parked out back. I was told it was the next vehicle to go in. This, after already waiting an hour, and being told initially that the entire service would only take about an hour, was unacceptable to me so I left without having my vehicle serviced. I went there because a friend had referred me and had nothing but good things to say about the service Dept there. Had I been told upon arrival that they were running at least an hour behind schedule, I would have finished my errands and come back at 2pm, instead of wasting an hour of my time. I can honestly say that I will NEVER attempt to do business with not only the Chico, CA Pep Boys but NO Pep Boys. My AC suddenly stopped blowing cold air but very hot air on an even hotter day. I needed to get it fixed ASAP and made an appointment with them at 4:00 PM. I arrived early at 3:35 and although the man helping me was very friendly, he lied to me from the start. He told me that the AC tech had a quick smog to do then he would diagnose my vehicle. They took my info and were going to contact me in about an hour. At almost two hours I learned that they were actually very busy and backed up and hadn't even looked at my vehicle yet and weren't going to be able to do so for another hour. Again, I had an appointment!!!!!! Needless to say. I left with my vehicle still blowing very hot air with it being too late now to take it anywhere else. The hour long drive home with my young son in the car should be fun. Don't trust these guys!!!!! They can take the appointment but clearly can't make it happen!!!!!!!!!
