Overall seems like a decent shop and the service folks seem to at least try to be courteous. I did have some prices change and was told the online quotes aren't always accurate, as other reviewers mentioned. I was happy to find out they will install customer provided parts. Ordering the same parts from amazon and having them delivered to their location saved me over 50% off the parts cost. Shop fees of over $40 seemed very excessive. We found a nail on a tire on our way out of town on vacation on a Sunday morning. We went to Pep Boys because they were open at 9:30am on a Sunday. It was honestly the best experience I have ever had for car care/maintenance/repair. Bar none. We interacted with 3 different people - to sales associates and the mechanic. Each were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and kind. Each took time to speak to our 3 little kids. Not at any time did I feel that we were a bother, burden, or wasting someone's time (which is a common feeling I get with car repair locations - whether I'm with my husband or alone). Completely Disappointed. I will be perfectly honest, I don't really care about the extra money, in the grand scheme of things its inconsequential. That being said, I do care about ethics and integrity in business practices and this place failed to show any. Here is what happened. I made an appointment online for a $21.99 oil change with a Pep Boys coupon. When I dropped the vehicle off there was no record of the price and was informed the oil change would be $49. This was initially concerning but I located a coupon on my phone, showed it to the associate who informed me it would be honored. When I went to pick up the vehicle, I again presented the coupon, and was told it would still cost me $38. My expectation would be that there would be tax and some additional expenses but none of this was presented prior to the service and play out like a classic game of bait and switch. I have a Jeep Cherokee which requires 0.5 quarts of additional oil which apparently requires me to purchase a full quart. Next, I was informed that my filter was 7.99 where the coupon only covered $3.25. When I reviewed the receipt, I confirmed that I was only discounted $1.83, not the full $3.25 which was less than the coupon covered. All in all, everything was a battle and the employees failed to understand basic mathematics as I discussed the increased costs and told me "Sometimes our prices in store down match what you see online." This is classic bait and switch language where you are trying to lure in customers with promises of one price and then finding any means necessary to increase the price before they leave. Unfortunately, I will never return to this store for service. Had they simply honored the coupon or adjusted to make things right they would have earned my business in perpetuity but unfortunately the additional $10 once was worth more than long term repeat business. Stay away from this location and chain all together. I decided to try Pep Boys Eastgate for new tires after normally only buying tires at Tire Discounters. I was happy with the tires which now have 75,000 miles on them and are worn but do not appear to be worn abnormally. I went back to Pep Boys to have them rotated and balanced. I have done this at least 4 times before this time. After it was done they charged me for the balancing. They said rotation is free but balance is not. I explained that they had not charged me in the past and he did not care. Said he had to pay his tech for doing it. I guess the tech doesn't get paid when he only rotates and does not balance. I have so far spent about $100 at Pep Boys to fix 2 flat tires and balance my tires, all of this would have been free had I bought the tires at Tire Discounters. I had also asked them specifically if they could check my front wheel bearings as I was hearing a noise that to me sounded like a bad wheel bearing. They said they checked and that the wheel bearings were fine and that the noise was tire noise due to feathering and that was caused by both front struts being "blown" and that was the noise. $1500 to replace 2 quick struts? I did not have it done as the tires do not look that bad and I could live with the noise for now if it was just the tires and not the wheel bearing. I was going out of town and then drove my van 2000 miles on the interstate at high speed. Once I returned from my trip I decided to get a 2nd opinion as it still seemed like a wheel bearing to me. I took it to the Dodge dealer and sure enough, bad wheel bearing. They replaced it and no noise now. I assumed that Pep Boys hired certified mechanics that know what they are doing but I was wrong. Mis-diagnosing a bad wheel bearing could have been very bad. I will not be going back to Pep Boys. read more

I took my car into the Pep Boys at 4436 Glen Este-Withamsville Rd. My first appointment was in July. I purchased a suspension kit and Pep boys was the recommended installer via Tire Rack. I took the car into a Pep boys and they said they didn't do suspension. They then directed me to the above location. They initially installed the shocks and springs, as well as my new tires and rims. When driving the car off the lot the first time, the car would barely steer and the whole car shook when I hit a small bump. There was a klunking noise from the front right. Everything within the suspension wobbled. I paid over $1,000 for this service. They also popped one of my factory tires, lost the factory springs, and broke the tire sensors. So, I left the car there and about 10 days later, I had the car back again. This is after they said I had to replace the control arms and/or bushings. They had ordered these parts and "fixed" the wobbling issue, or so I was told. After much back and forth, they foot the bill for the parts. I drove the car off the lot and realized over the next couple days that the car was simply not driveable. On the highway, it felt like the wheels were going to fall off. The whole car vibrated at speeds over 40 and any little bump was jarring. The loud noises from the front continued. Zach, the manager, eventually apologized about the awful job in the beginning. He said the young mechanic messed some things up and he guaranteed it would be resolved. I took the car back again for a third time. They had about two weeks to fix the car. And now it's just as bad as it was in the beginning. Worse, in fact. And apparently the service manager Zach, who I had been working with the entire time, quit. Throughout all this, I never received one call from Pep boys telling me when my car was ready. I always had to call and figure out what was going on. Now that Zach is gone and the location didn't call me after my initial customer service complaint (shocking), the issue was escalated to corporate, where I am yet to speak with anyone about the issue, outside of call center employees who tell me "_____ isn't available. They will call you back." They, of course, don't call me back. In total, I have spent over $1,050, on top or Uber rides, countless hours on phone, and four months without my car. I finally took the car in for an inspection by a specialized Audi/VW mechanic, the highest rated in town. Here's what they found: "*Vehicle is unsafe to drive in current state.* Inspection found multiple issues with current suspension. Upper control arm bushings torn, lower control arm bushings torn, lower ball joint boots are torn, tie rod end boots are torn. RF tie rod has incorrect bolt installed, with multiple washers. Rf upper control arm pinch bolt has been hammered on and caused to smash one side of nut/thread. Rear upper control arm bushings are loose and appear to have been torched on. LR upper control arm bolt loose upon arrival. Both LR & RR Control arms have been installed at furthest adjustment causing negative camber. Both rear axle boots are torn and slinging grease all over inside of wheel. Upper strut mounts are popping while turning and going over bumps. Original mounts were used when installing new suspension. Will need to remove cup kit installed, replace strut mounts, tie rod ends, tie rod pinch bolts, Front Upper control arms, front lower control arms, rear upper control arms, rear axles, re install cup kit and align vehicle." All this work is going to cost over $5k to fix. I called an Audi dealer they confirmed that the shop "knows their stuff" and that their estimate would likely be around the same. I will need to tow it there to find out. Over the course of 4+ months, I went back and forth (three car drop-offs in all) with people at Pep Boys in what has been a long nightmarish process. My car is as good as totaled. I bought it in June and now I can't drive it. And nothing has been done about it. Don't ever, ever come here. 3rd time. Pep boys didn't replace the bolt they didn't put even halfway in. The suv is swaying differently than before. I called back to explain the problem and the service manager ADAM says he noticed the same thing but sent me home with my car without telling me. His description of how the car is that the front end is (FLOOPY) I SWEAR FLOOPY. This time he says the control arms raised the struts and it's doing that because the struts are bad. No mention of bad struts the first 5 times they worked on it. I have pictures of the bolt. With it not being in correctly I'm sure it put stress on other parts of the car. When I called back I overheard the manager say I don't want to talk to him. I'm done I have pictures of the non repair I'm going to have another mechanic look at it and tell me how the struts are. I've been waiting a few months to put this review up. Because when it comes to car repairs you don't really know how effective things are going to be until you've been driving your car around for a bit afterwards. Well enough time has gone by and the time has come for me to spill the beans. Pep Boys sucks. At least the one at Eastgate at any rate. Granted we only went here twice. Why? Because I could drop off my car and literally walk over to work and walk back and pick up the car when it was done. So the first time we went was to do an oil change. When I dropped the car off I asked if they would take a look at this thing that was hanging off my muffler. Not sure what it was but I believe it helped to keep the muffler in place. Anyway, the guy there asked me if I wanted to replace the part and I told him no, that I wanted to find out what the problem was and how much it cost first. Couple of hours later they call to tell me that my car is ready. I go to pick it up and ask about the thing hanging down from the muffler. The guy told me he didn't know, they didn't take a look at it. When I asked why they said because I didn't want them to fix it. I told them of course I didn't want them to fix it, because I needed to know what was wrong with it first and how much it would cost. I needed them to take a look at it so I would know. They told me that don't do that because that would be a free diagnostic which they don't do. Strike one. The second time we were there was because our van would shake violently whenever we would brake. They told us that we needed to replace the front brake pads, which we did. That stopped the shaking...for about a month. The shaking returned and with a vengeance. So this time we took it over to our usual place, Midas. We told them about the shaking and they come back and tell us we need to replace the brake pads. We explained that we had done exactly that about a month ago. The Midas guy gives us a look and says, "Those brake pads aren't new. They're at least a year old. And there is way too much wear-and-tear on them for just driving on them for a month." So not only did Pep Boys not give us new brake pads, they gave us used brake pads. Strike Two. And the way I play the game, two strikes is all it takes. Added bonus; Midas ended up giving us brand new brake pads (both front and back) for less than Pep Boys charged for just the front ones. Boooooo Pep Boys! Mahalo, and avoid. read more

I bought a belt here and it was obviously old and had been sitting. The lady I bought it from told me that I could return it if it didn't work. Well, it lasted 8 minutes and shredded. When I took it back, the manager informed me that it wasn't THEIR fault, that it must have been put on wrong. Unfortunately for their theory, it had been put on exactly correctly. Unfortunately for ME, they now refuse to refund my money for their old, rotten belt and were quite condescending and rude about it. I usually avoid Pep Boys like the plague because the horrible customer service and overpriced parts but they were the closest place to go in that instance. Next time I'll travel farther just to NOT have to deal with this idiocy again. My daughter had her Ford Escape's alternator replaced. It went bad in 3 months. Took it back and they replaced it no charge. No labor either. Sometimes a remanufactured item fails. I usually do all of my own (and my daughters) repairs. This one was a major pain. Pull the wheel, swing the strut, etc. to get to the alternator. Kudos to you guys. read more

Pep boys as a whole is one of the worst companies I have ever had dealings with. I sent several very serious complaints to the corporate office and didn't even get a reply back. That in itself show the lack of customer service. Also the prices here for service are crazy. When I purchased a headlight for my truck and asked for assistance replacing it the told me they would have to charge me $60 for labor, Any other auto parts store would help you with lights for free. I also had them sell me defective parts that had been previously returned and then try to give me trouble when I brought them back. I'm just giving a couple examples but do yourself a favor and go do your business anywhere else but here, trust me. read more

Came in for a headlight. I gave them the make and model and year. They then started asking odd questions about my engine size and they kept shaking their head as they spoke to me because I couldn't answer. They also made me shuffle between two registers on opposite sides of the room (3 times). The one guy had me pop the hood and told me he couldn't tell the engine size, then had me show him the tire sticker inside my driver-side door(for what?). Told me he had what he needed so we go back inside and they bring me a bulb. Never showed them to me or asked if I had a preference nor mentioned price. I asked if they could pop it in for me. Sure! It will take a little over a half hour and be $115. Excuse me? They said it was real hard to get to. They made me feel like I was a dumb female who is clueless on cars so they can take advantage. I walked out, went to AutoZone to buy a $14 bulb and put it in myself in ten minutes after watching a YouTube video on how to move the clip holding it in place. Beyond a rip off. What a joke. I took my car to Pep Boys on August 2, 2015. It was leaking fluid later determined to be axle grease. I waited all afternoon in the store for the repair. After about three hours, the clerk came to tell me the repair was finished, but there was a problem. When they had pulled the axle out the car had dumped a bunch of transmission fluid. He said since my car was a CVT he didn't think I should drive it that low on fluid. He also said they didn't have any Nissan transmission fluid in stock, and as it was Sunday, wouldn't be able to get any that evening. So, after sitting there all day I had to call for a ride home and then get a ride back to pick up the car the next day. The initial clerk did feel bad for me and offered a 10% off coupon. That brought my total to just over $515. The problem was that when I drove my car home it had a pretty bad shimmy in it that had never been there before. I called Pep boys and they said bring it back, so I did. They determined it was a bad part and put a new one in. However, they quickly called to say the problem was the same so they had to order a part from Nissan. The part wouldn't get there until the end of the week, so I should come get the car. I did and drove the car around for a week with the shimmy. Then I took it back. Again I get a call that they have put in the Nissan part, but the shake is still there, it must be a problem with the transmission, they had no clue how to fix it, and I should take it to a dealer. I went back to pick up the car again and as I drove by I noticed something hanging from the bottom of my car. When they took my car apart this time (for the third time) they had left a couple of bolts off. Luckily I spotted it, or who knows what damage would have been caused. When I picked up the car this time I was verbally told that Pep Boys would cover the cost of the repair at the dealer. Another week passed before I could get into the dealer. They took one look at the car and said I had a bad axle and that a small piece inside the transmission had been bent. They made the repair and the car is now running well. Of course this repair cost me $1100 plus the cost of an overnight car rental. When I went back to Pep Boys to ask them to pay for the repairs they said all they would do is refund what I had paid them, going back on the earlier agreement. I had even returned the defective axle to them so they could get their money back from Nissan. I was upset, but $515 is better than nothing, right? But they only refunded $482, because the other $33 was the cost of the diagnostic test they ran! Needless to say, I will NEVER shop at this (or any other) Pep Boys location again. The second trip I needed an alternator but their price was a little high ; so I had one installed elsewhere. If 0 stars were available that's what I would pick. Took my truck their this afternoon to have two tires put on and an alignment. I went to eat while they were working on it and they called and told me there was a leak on the 4-Wd and offered a quote. I refused the fix and asked to just have the tires and alignment done. They called and I went and picked the truck up. Everything seemed fine till maybe 20 minutes after we left and the hot transmission light came on and had an awful burnt smell. I pulled off and realized that somehow the truck had been put in 4-lo drive. Clearly not meant for high speed. I couldn't figure out how to get it out at the time. After I read the owners manual I now know the truck has to be in neutral to Engage 4-lo so I clearly did not put it in it and it wasn't in 4-lo when I took it their. So now here I sit on the side of the road in the freezing cold with a transmission not working. I called to talk them and a mark told me that they would never put it in 4-lo and that it wasn't them. When I told him i couldn't get it back 2wheel drive he told me to bring it back and they would help. How is that possible when it's not working. So now after footing a $600 tire bill, I now have a truck with the transmission out. Thank you pep boys for putting your customer supposedly first. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Not only did it take nearly 4 hours for my 30 minute oil change - and I had an appointment. Then they didn't call me to tell me my car was ready after I specifically asked them to (I left after waiting two hours). THEN I drive up and my windows are down and my car is unlocked!!!! When asked about this they state that they've been told not to lock the cars. Really? So you leave my car unlocked with the windows down ready to be stolen or have everything out of it stolen? They should at least tell you when you drop your car off that it will be left unlocked with the windows down. Needless to say I will never come back here. read more

First appointment of the day and all I needed was a tire replaced and the spare put back. It took them almost an hour to figure out how to get the tire down from under the car! They wouldn't let me in the shop to show them and they were not capable of taking verbal directions. 1.5 hours into the appointment and we are still not complete. It only took me 30 minutes to change the tire on the side of the highway in the dark! They are NOT tire experts. This is absolutely the worst experience ever. If I could give zero stars I would. Last Saturday I went to pep boys rather than valvoline for a simple oil change to save money. How hard can it be? I drove the car home and the engine light came on. I called pep boys. They said it's probably nothing. I went back on Sunday so they could replace a cabin air filter. They checked the engine code and said, "It's an oil pressure sensor. We cleared the code. You're fine." I have no clue what an oil pressure sensor is. I drove home. Engine light came back on. Monday I go to work. After work I checked my oil. Oil is now below the safe line. I go back to pep boys. The assistant manager proceeds to get a random amount of oil, come to my car, and then starts opening the cover to the engine. I said, "Where are you putting the oil?" He stopped, hesitated, and then screwed the cap back onto the engine cover, stood for a second, and then found the oil cap, and proceeded to pour oil in. I said to him, "Are you a mechanic?" And he looked me in the eye and said, "I am mechanical." Really? Mechanical? Wow I feel so much better. Another person came out, and again, cleared this code on my car. I drove home and then, the light came back on. So, Tuesday, I went to valvoline with my car. They ran the code and said, "Do not drive this car. They should have sent you to the dealer. Your car should not be driven with these codes." I don't know what they did to my car. I know that the dealer cannot look at it for 2 weeks, I have to beg rides to work, and all because I tried to save $15 on an oil change. Seriously? One of the worst decisions ever. So glad they are "mechanical," at pep boys. Go anywhere else. read more

Idiot manager named Dave at service desk lied to me about price of tires, rebate and the installation took way too long. He also ignored me to answer the telephone when I first came in to spend hundreds of dollars for tires whose price was different than what was originally quoted and the rebate wasn't instant, but a mail-in and for less money than I was told and I had to buy overpriced road hazard. I waited over three hours for my tires to be put on when he told me it would take an hour and the guy was always talking to somebody on his cell phone or going around yelling and being obnoxious to the employees in the garage. It takes me half an hour to get there and the manager,Dave, tells me it will cost me twenty five dollar more than what they quoted me when I called. I spent all afternoon working on getting this part off my car, and was willing to pay twice as much, and drive half an hour so I could fix my car, and all goofball did was waste my time and my gas(3.89 a gal). Been a long time customer. Ive spent several thousand dollars over the years. A rewards member and credit card account as well. I recently referred a close friend to have his suv looked at. We suspected it was a fuel pump issue. After writing up a 1000.00 est on it after the 160.00 diagnostics fee. He goes out to get some items out of his car only to see the mechanic driving it inside. He walks over and asked the mechanic if it was running . He tells him no. Not knowing my friend just watched him drive it inside. After confronting the manager. He was told that "their guys" would never try to do something like that. Called corporate who watched the camera footage and offered 400 off a 1200 bill and the same guys repairing it.. wtf?? So i will never buy a single item from them again regardless of my situation. Lost a life long loyal customer who will never send you business again. Avoid this location. Your in for a long, long wait even with an appointment. And dont expect any refresments during your wait, they said it would be too expensive to have a coffee pot....too exensive? Please! Terrible management. Very slow! The counter help is slow and not a very good business person. Work on your vehicle can become expensive. Workers are slow. They are not in any hurry to get you going.they get paid by the job and some are in no hurry to ake money. Terrible to do business with. As anyone i jept going back. The last time when i needed a fog lamp replaced, they said it could get 4 hours or more. One bulb job can be 1/4 of an average mans paycheck.
