Pep Boys destroyed my driver door and fender. Messed up my payment. Stringing me along via insurance claims and customer service claims for the last 3 or 4 weeks now. Rear left brake line came loose and lost control because I had to miss a vehicle with littile to no brake pressure left. No one takes anyone serious at this establishment and I'm left with no choice but to hand this over to my attorney. I would never bring a vehicle here to be serviced if I were anyone else. Remember the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"? The scene when they left their sports car in the parking garage with those shady characters? This is how you will feel if and when you drop your car off here. They say the minimum words to you when you ask a question and when they give you an answer, you seem to now have 20 More questions on your mind once they answer one. Needless to say I went to get the spark plugs changed on my Chrysler 300 and when I got my car back I nervously drove home thinking the car could blow up at any time. Luckily that did not happen but weeks later (today), I had the hood open to replace a bad thermostat and I noticed a bolt that should have been screwed down from where they replaced my spark plugs only screwed into the engine block 3 threads in and sticking out about a full 1 1/2 up into the air!!!! Not only is this garage slow as molasses they also do not examine their work once they think they are finished. Needless to say shop around. Scary!!! read more

Front desk employees are horrible and immediately rude to myself and my significant other. We were told to arrive between 8-9am that would be fine by the gentleman my partner spoke to the day prior. However apparently in their system we were put down for 830am we arrived at said location ironically at 836am. Have GPS proof. The gentleman said you are late at 830am I canceled your appointment. Since you're here I guess you can just wait. Very condescending tone and just seemed very annoyed also did it to another woman right behind us same situation arrived at 9:01am and her appointment was at 9am she said. Very unprofessional and now I see why the reviews are all one stars. Looks like they need a complete re-staffing and a correction on manager/owner evaluation. for whoever reading please don't take your car here the workers and staff are not capable of "fixing" your car without creating numerous other problems. Literally took my car to them for my radiator to be replaced. they had my car for a week and two days before I got it back. When I got it back I had it for less than 24hrs when my engine light came on. In a letter their claims department sent me they admitted to knowing my engine was a problem and still gave me my car back like that. These people don't care to fix your cars. go to someone who actually knows how to get their job done! read more

I would not recommend this location whatsoever and how they continue to be open is baffling. I have spent several thousands of dollars just in tires at this location, with the most recent resulting in a "loose pin" causing damage to rotors and brake pads. I called the location, after my wife told me of her experience, and dealt with a manager by the name of Brian who very quickly started speaking to me in a condescending fashion, with the assumption that I was trying to get something for free, as opposed to having a professional conversation, and agreeing to something reasonable. He also stated that I've been a headache every time he's had to deal with me because of the number of times I've asked for assistance with placing a tire order online and called his location to ask for assistance. Being a prior ASE certified professional that now works in a different industry out on the road, every report and inspection prior to tires being replaced showed no issue, and instead of having some dialogue, this manager immediately stated that I was looking for something for free, after knowing that I've spent thousands of dollars at this location. I asked for his regional manager/directors number, to which he responded "call 1-800-PEP-BOYS". This is definitely not a location I would recommend and whoever is in charge of quality control and in-house customer service needs to do a better job. No customer should be treated this unprofessional or be made to feel like an inconvenience. I'm only giving it one star because it won't register a lower choice. I've done business with Pep Boys at multiple other locations and several different cities and this is by far the worst in every aspect. read more

They tried to charge me 110 dollars to look at my car. That's not the only bad thing it took them 12 hours to look at my car I called up there 8 times nobody told me that they were gonna charge me . And before I even sent the tow truck to come pick it up they guy at the front desk even said that was fine he'll leave my keys with the tow driver they had 8 times to tell me they were going to charge me they threaten not to release my car until I paid. WHAT KIND OF FOOLISHNESS , and then they released my car told the tow driver to "collect money" when I got there , how can you assume I have that of money on me RIGHT NOW ? How do you know if I'm that rich to drop 110 dollars on the spot. I didn't end up paying because I guess they knew they were wrong. As a business you should tell someone that's they gonna be charge before you do anything to someone. And Donald the manager said to "assume that's they're gonna be charge" What type of business to let someone assume that big of a charge I would've took my car to o Reilly or auto zone because they do engine checks for free! Had my daughter take her car here for an oil change and it was the worse experience ever. She drives off and about a few miles away she calls me and her car is smoking. She opens the hood and it's oil everywhere. They forgot to put the oil cap back on. We had to go to advance auto to purchase a new cap and then take the vehicle back to get the oil that was everywhere under the hood cleaned and request a refund. They did refund and did a sloppy job cleaning the oil under the hood. Oil was still lingering under the hood. Lastly, they rotated the tires and rotated a tire that had the belt that had broken in it, so it had dips in throughout it (in which we did take to Walmart where we purchased the tire to get a warranty replacement) to the front of the car versus leaving the tire on the back. Pep Boys did show my daughter the dips while there. We want to Walmart where we purchased the tires and they recommend we talk to a manager at pep boys about them putting my daughter in danger by rotating a bad tire from the back to the front. Walmart said that they should have known that it was hazardous to put a bad tire to the front. It's ridiculous how of a job sloppy pep boys did on this day. I would not recommend this store at all. The manager did refund our money for the oil change and was apologetic, however, God forbid if something would have happened to my child because of this. It's unacceptable!!! They need experienced professionals working there. People's lives are on the line at this point. read more

I figured I might've had a nail in my tire because I've had to continuously put in air in the last two weeks. This location took the time out to actually take a look then fixed it unlike another company who just put air in it to send me on my way. I would definitely refer more people to this location. I stood up for 35 minutes before I was helped although I had "an appointment". Having an appointment means nothing to this shop. It's first come first served, period. Also, the guy up front (name withheld to protect the guilty), ALSO took a phone call from "his babe" for 3 minutes while all five of us stood there in disbelief! How do I know it was his "babe"? Over the years I have went to them they didn't put my EGV value in tight in my truck, didn't put lug nuts in my truck tire like i asked, and they took their time when i needed battery terminals. Trust me they maybe cheap but they aren't worth it. Hell takes them an hour to do an alternator when it should take u 20 minutes tops. read more

Broken down on the interstate for 3-1/2 hours with a trailer camper that had two blown out tires. I used all of this time trying to find roadside assistance who could come to me to replace the tires. The ones I found who could come did not have the tire size I needed. Because I had just bought the camper used, the tread looked brand new. After pulling the camper and having two blow outs, I realized I needed 4 new tires. They were all bad due to dry rot. I finally found the tires in stock at this Pep Boys. The lady I spoke with was very nice. She said they had 4 in stock. I told her I would contact the mobile service guy I had been communicating with to make sure he could still come to me, and then I would call her back and buy the tires. I confirmed he could go to this Pep Boys to get the tires and then come rescue me from the side of the interstate. I called Pep Boys back and got the same lady. I told her I wanted to purchase the 4 tires. She put me on hold and then a man came back to me and again asked the tire size. He said he wanted to make sure they were in stock because the computer is sometimes wrong. He then came back on the phone and said they did have them. I then said I wanted to pay for them now so they don't get sold, and the installer would pick them up in an hour or less (and I gave the mobile installers name). He then said he could not sell them over the phone! He said I would have to call back once the man arrived to pick them up and pay for them then. I asked what difference does it make!? I wanted to buy them now because I was broken down on the side of the road! I then asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the manager. I told him I was going to complain to corporate and he said he didn't care. I told him to shove the tires up his ass, and he hung up on me. I would rather sleep on the side of the road than give my money to this store. Apparently they don't want my business or money? Called the corporate complaint line, and the foreign speaking person said it was company policy to not take payment over the phone. He was going to take it once the installer arrived to pick them up. How else could I get them held for me? Never will I do business at a PEP Boys. Broken down on the side of an interstate and would not sell me tires??? Karma will get this man. I will not be using their services again. I went in to get my tire fixed and came out with another flat tire. How do I know it was them and not something I did? The tire was hissing in the parking lot but wasn't sure of the cause of it at the time. I woke up this morning to a completely flat tire. What a place! My wife got a flat tire so I did the husbandly thing and went and changed the tire. Afterwards I took the car, with spare donut, and all to this Pepboys store, the store was super busy so I left the car. They fixed the car as they said they would. However, I wasn't able to make it back to the store before closing~ They secured the car and stored it overnight- the even secured the GPS unit! The best is yet to come... They automatically enrolled me into their rewards program which includes flat repair at no charge!! I was expecting a charge for the tire, and my wife was taunting me with an "overnight charge". What good service- I was expecting a bill plus who knows what?? However, I got... Here's your keys theirs no charge! It already had only 3 stars. I give it a one and here is why. I walk into the SERVICE center. Guy standing behind counter doesn't acknowledge my presence for 2 minutes. Mind you, no one else in this place besides him and I. Lesson here is, when a customer enters the store and is standing in front of your counter, look up from whatever paperwork you're doing, and say hi. He finally looks up at me and i have to speak first. I say, i need an oil change on my fleet vehicle. Je says, i have two ahead of you, are you wanting to wait. My response, wait for it, "oh, Im sorry, are you wanting me to go someplace else?" He says no, just dont have anyone here til 8. (Its 745 bc website said you opened at 730) I said I will wait. He grumbles a little and the wait behind. At 815 we still had no one arrive to work yet and i ask if it will be soon or if it would be an hour and he says "really cant say how long, I dont have anyone here yet" I decided to go walk and find breakfast. It is now 845 and my car has not been touched. I am a loyal pep boys person. Reward member etc. This location isnt one like the others. Wont be back and will make sure none of our fleet comes to this store ever again. read more

Horrible place to deal with, took it in for a anti-knock sensor and intake manifold gasket replace due to check engine light. Five trips back still not fixed. They said it was now the fuel pump, replaced it still the same issue. The last time he said was the AC compressor causing the engine to knock. Called BS on this one.. Finally started asking for my money back and that is when they replaced the anti knock sensor. And asked for the parts back this time, they looked like they were original. It took them three tries to replace the fuel pump. read more

I took my 2002 Cadillac devile there to a bulb replaced in headlight. I had to get my car towed from pepboys, when they finished with my headlight, my car would not start the steering wheel was locked up, the key would not fit in the ignition. I went in and told the guy my steering wheel was locked, he asked me had it happened before I told him no, then two other guys came out with flashlights and did something to get the key in the ignition my car would not start, finally called my insurance company for a tow truck. I sat in my car for 4 hours. I was parked right in front of the service door, no one came to help me. I took a perfectly good car to pepboys on Broadriver road and left with my car on the back of a tow truck. I will never ever spend another cent there. read more

I dealt with this pep boys three times each time I went was the most ridiculous mechanic story I've ever came across. The first time I went, I was having some light issues with my 99 f-150 rear drum brakes that were not bad, but I just wanted to get the new shoes and drum I got quoted $1000 dollars for parts and labor...... I looked at the guy and asked are you sure about that it seems very off for a 99 f-150 drum brakes to which he confirmed the price of over $1000. Whatever I went and bought my brakes and did it myself. Next time I had an 08 Altima that needed inspections and with brakes and tires the cost now was over $1000 so instead of using them again I went to tire kingdom got tires for $450 and brakes $300 did the work myself, so I wasn't upset. The part that upset me was I was told the tire light did not need to be turned off to pass inspection as it isn't a true warning light. Well, when I came back instead of passing my inspection like they said they would, they failed me again and wanted $300 dollars to replace the sensors in the tires. I went to Meineke and passed my inspection. Pep boys are complete scums when small maintenance likes brakes tires fluids etc. they will overcharge you and lie about what is needed and if you come back will now "require" something else. I wouldn't recommend buying parts from pep boys let alone allow them to do service. The jobs they said would take hours to do drum brakes took me 2 hours by myself first time doing drum brakes I wanted new drums too and they said that would cost 30 extra mins each of service as opposed to installing the old drums which are required anyway read more

My mom's car recently went dead after she left the keys in the ignition by mistake and after going to almost every auto shop in town to find out what was wrong (including the Pep Boys on Decker), we finally went to the Pep Boys on Broad River. To our surprise the employees were super nice and almost immediately found the source of the problem to be a faulty cell in the battery. They replaced it with no charge (the battery was still under warranty) and made sure the car ran alright before we left. I highly recommend coming here if you don't want to get ripped off or charged for parts you didn't even need in the first place. Went there they dragged there feet on finding out what was wrong with my car. When I went back to check on my car they were also working on their personal cars instead of working on the customers car. Every time I would ask a question I would be quoted a price for testing a starter or looking even at the car. I feel as though they tried to treat you as if you don't know anything just so they can sell you more. I would not recommend pep boys for anything. I took my 07 Lexus IS250 here to get 4 new tires installed, balanced, and get a wheel alignment done and they had excellent customer service and quality work. Hard to find a shop with both these days. Not to mention they actually don't try and suck money out of you for b.s. services you "need." Since moving to Columbia over 3 years ago we have used Pep Boys on Broad River Rd. they have handled oil changes, new set of tires, idler pulley replacement, belt tensioner replacement, and air filter changes on our Trailblazer. The work is always professional as expected, but the thing that makes us keep going back is the 3 guys at the front. We have been there during non busy and crazy busy times they always handle each customer with patients and a personal concern for them and heir vehicles and it shows. They are pleasant even with some difficult clients. I was in this past Good Friday and they were slammed but you couldn't tell by them because their patients and personal care for each customer didn't waiver. They remembered me and my car when I came in. I did wait awhile to get 3 things done but I understood they were busy and didn't mind. Great job guys! read more

These folks had my wife convinced that unless we had between $2,500 and $5K worth of repairs done NOW, that the car was unsafe. They said they couldn't be certain just how bad it was, until they got it up on the rack. I still have the estimate printout with their names on it. We drove it home, had a local mechanic look at. I took my 2000 Chevy Silverado to Pep Boys on Broad River Rd in Columbia with brake problems. My ABS light was lit on my dash, and the brakes needing bleeding after I replaced most of my brake lines. Previously, a Chevy dealer told me I needed a new ABS pump, however the Pep Boys technician Jimmy diagnosed the problem as merely a bad ground wire. He cleared the diagnostic code, fixed the faulty wire, bled the pump and all four wheels, and now the brakes are like new. He worked on my truck for three hours, and the bill was under $200. His knowledge, experience, and ability to really fix the problem were the best I have seen. If you take your vehicle there ask for Jimmy. I will be a returning customer, their service was great. read more

After waking up with a completely flat tire. I went to this Pep Boys for a new tire. They were friendly, they had my tire size, but never had I purchased a brand new tire for any car I have ever had. The thought of paying $100 for ONE tire was a bit much for me, but my boyfriend reassured me it was worth it... The service was quick. My grip with the fella who put on my new tire is he left me with UNALIGNED FRONT TIRES.... And my thought is this is a PLOY to get ppl to come in for more than ONE tire at a time. My alignment was fine before the new tire NOW my car drives choppy. WHO DOES THIS? I am close to the edge with how business and folks treat customers in Columbia, but I have found a reasonably priced mechanic who does it all. The next time I go to grab a tire I will take it to the person whos proven their skill and PROFESSIONALISM to me to put my tire on. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. Went there for an oil change. They then told me I needed a CV axle replaced and quoted me almost $350. Brought it to Scott's auto repair on Meeting St (highly recommend them) to have them check it out. They quoted me almost $150 LESS. The bigger issue...THE OIL FILTER WAS LEAKING. So Pep Boys had no problem finding an issue that would get them $350 but couldn't even properly perform a $30 oil change. Called the manager and explained the situation. He offered me a free oil change for next time...no thanks! Won't be using their services again. read more

My son took my car in for an oil change. Twenty minutes after he left the store he called me and said it was running a good bit warmer than normal. When it cooled off enough that we could check it, any water that we put in it ran straight through and out the bottom right at to the oil pan. My son called this morning to tell them about it and they told him that they didn't touch the cooling and that it would be a charge to check it. When I called I tried to explain to the assistant service manager, James, that less then twenty minutes after leaving his care a car that was fine will now no longer hold water. His response was, "I don't understand why your making this such a big deal." The care will not hold water and is leaking less than six inches from the oil pan, where they worked. So one of two things: either they damaged the car and sent it out knowingly or they still knowingly sent out the car with a water leak because of the leaks location. That is a big deal. We are having it towed back now just to see if PepBoys is going to make it right or not. But for the moment, I'm giving one star because I can't go any lower. read more
