They ended up damaging my oil pan and causing my check engine light to come on less than a month later because my car's oil was leaking. They also installed new windshield wipers incorrectly. I stopped in to get a headlight replaced. I bought new windshield wipers, which they also installed for me. They told me it would take about 30 minutes to complete, but they actually were finished in less than 15. I was walking around the store to kill time while they worked on my truck, and 2 other friendly employees stopped to ask me if I needed help with anything. The store was clean and organized as well. Excellent customer service and properly applied discounts to my final bill. Got a great deal on 4 brand new tires, synthetic oil change and steering wheel fluid flush. They have a reward program so I was able to get about $40 points! Definitely going back there. read more

Fred B, the receptionist/scheduler, was extremely rude. I'm baffled that as someone who is literally the face of an organization is as rude and unprofessional as this individual. First, I waited 10 mins at the counter before I was even acknowledged. He was on the phone servicing another customer, but when he was done he STILL did not acknowledge me and walked away once someone came in. He then took the things from the man and brought them to the back. STILL not acknowledging my being there or needing be serviced. When he finally looked my way from the back, I waved him down, and he returned by throwing his hands up- signaling "what". In that moment, whatever respect and patience I had...dwindled. I tried to keep my calm by expressing I would like to be serviced. He started the conversation with him not being able to service me. He didn't even know what I needed. When I explained it was a light on; he didn't ask what light- he simply said they do that Tuesday through Saturday and they leave at 4 (it was 12 PM). I told him I would NEVER return to be serviced and I asked for his managers contact. This unprofessional waste of space told me, we are done here" and began to walk away. I said what's your manager's contact? He said- I'm the only one here! I said what's your name? Fred- and aggressively rubbed his hands across his name on his shirt- I said thanks! I'll be calling him! And he said PLEASE DO. Well, Fred- I took it to corporate and I'll be taking it to every platform! Because your service doesn't deserve anyone's hard earned money! I am appalled with the Manager of the Pep Boys(Michael Bassett)located at 21610 S. Cicero in Matteson, IL. I had a right front wheel bearing replaced on 10/31/14 which is still under warranty. Michael Bassett told me that I would have to pay for the labor because the part was put on in 2012. I found the receipt at home for 10/31/14 which means the 1 year on labor is still good and lifetime on the part. Michael tried to tell me it was only 90 days on labor and 1 year on the part. I do not like to be made a fool of because Pep Boys wants to beat me out of money. I will never patronize Pep Boys ever again in life. I have been a loyal customer and have spent thousands of dollars at this location. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! read more

I was waiting almost 4 hours for my car.. and still I took it to another car place later because My car still seemed offand they told me I need a oil change bad.. I didn't believe them because I had just paid to get one done. My oil looked like black gook. the wires weren't changed. Yesterday I went to this location to get a headlight changed. I waited patiently in line and once it was my turn, the guy behind the counter just stared at me. He wouldn't say a word. No greeting. He didn't even speak once I said "hi" to him. I immediately knew what that was about. You'd think we would have gotten past 1865 by now. But anyway, he had a few people in the waiting room and told me he couldn't get to the car and I would have to leave it. I said "for a headlight?" He said yeah and he would call me when it's ready. What I noticed was that all the people of color were being told to leave their cars, but people of European decent were allowed to wait for their cars. I took my car to the dealership and they changed it in less than 10 minutes. I had never gone to Pep Boys before and certainly have no need to go there again. I have been taking my car to this location for a few years and they seem to be very upfront on prices and an suggested work. They recommend what is needed with no pressure to purchase. The last few times I have been in the shop, Tony was very polite and even apologized for an extended wait time while tracking down a part. Of all the other places like NTB, Firestone, these guys are the best. read more

Updated my review... after getting a new battery. Paying $160 for. I noticed the same issue I was having was not fixed. When I start my truck it cranks several times before starting. Then it was times I needed a jump. So Im thinking its the battery. After they repaired my battery they tell me add'l things I should look into to repair my truck. I would think they would also check for any add'l issue I might have concerning my battery since that was the main thing I was replacing. So I called back and was informed I needed to stop by for a 'special check on my vehicle' but I would have thought that would have taken place while they had my vehicle for 4 hours. I felt I lost money on something that I probably didnt need. I decided to take my vehicle else where. Oh by the way.. now my check engine light is on.. which have never been on since I've had the vehicle for the last 5 years. This happens after the fact my battery was replaced. However, each time I've gone I have been disappointed at the lack of politeness and respect from the person working as the service manager. I will not return. I would not recommend this location to anyone. Even if you are not looking for any service to be done on your vehicle (i.e. you're just buying parts or general merchandise) I would still choose to spend money elsewhere. read more

I came in this am to get my car winterized. I have been a customer over the years. Crystal, the certified mechanic, found that the rear shocks and stabilizers were almost rusted thru. Not only did they do winterizing, fixed the rear shocks, etc but replaced a tail light bulb at no charge. They were very thorough and courteous. I wasn't always a fan of the Matteson PepBoys. In fact, I stopped going for a few years. More than a few times I felt that they may have overcharged, or told me things were wrong with my car, when they may not have been. So I stopped going. But, yesterday i decided to go because a friend said they had treated her right (FINALLY!) and an oil change is minor, so why not? I made an appointment online, and when I got to the location, I noticed the "Oil Change in 30 minutes" sign which sat at the curb of the store. Ok, so this should be good. I was greeted by Wally, who immediately looked up my appointment, asked for my keys and asked me to wait in the waiting area. He said my car would be taken care of. I felt assured and sat down. Since I always bring something to keep busy in these waiting situations, I didn't notice the time pass, but one hour later, Wally told me my car was ready. I paid and thanked him for the good service. And surprisingly, there were no 'mystery' diagnoses or sudden problems with my car, like Pep boys has told me in the past. I just want to say that Wally's great customer service made my appointment go smoothly. Even though they did not finish in 30 minutes, it was still a good experience. When I got to my car, there was a paper mat on the floor, and a plastic cover over the driver's seat. They had NEVER done this before, and I was really glad to see that they cared about my car's interior. Nice touch, Pep Boys. I'll return to this location, because I think things have changed for the better. Let's hope it stays that way! read more

So last Saturday I was here at pepboys for a regular 19.99 oil change I ended up getting my tires inspected for free and I was told that my tires had a odd wear pattern and the employee Andy Was kind enough to show me the problem he then noticed I was confused and took me to see a diagram on the wall of my tire pattern he was happy to give a estimate on new tires and offered a free alignment check as well as having the mechanic do a steering and suspension check and with that said I was told a really good price on tires falkens I took the offer than I was told I get a free oil change with 2 tires then he also offered me a discounted alignment I have to say this employee Andy is so friendly while I waited he offered me a drink turned on the tv and even with his spare time conversated with me a bit not once did I feel pressured or felt like I was just being charged for needless items like I have been a Firestone I will be coming here again with my Nissan xterra again for its tune up if you come here make sure to ask for Andy he's just great as soon as your car enters till your keys are handed to you read more
