We dropped off the car to get an oil change and tire rotation and realized it's been 3hrs and they still haven't called. So after another phone call they said it will take another 15-20min. When we get there they said they didn't even do the rotation. So it took them 3.5hrs.... for an oil change??? You are better off taking your car somewhere else. Don't even bother. So this place looks and feels like any other pep boys and there is nothing special about it beyond that. I went here with my sister who was getting a car battery replaced using a black friday special. Essentially the price that she booked online for became somehow higher once she came into the store. After some back and forth semi-agressive conversation with the service manager, the price was adjusted. We did have to go online from a cell phone while in the store and pay for the service, while standing in front of the service desk. The problem I think was not so much with the staff, but more with the computer systems at Pep Boys that are set up to over charge you. For example, we paid in full from our cell phone at the store and when the transaction went thru to the computer at the terminal, it came out to $40 higher, which the manager then adjusted. While the manager was helpful, this undue stress and wasted time and energy were completely inconvenient and really not in the customer's best interest. That being said, we also purchased some parts from the parts department and the specialist on duty then was super helpful and knew what he was talking about and exactly where parts were. read more

I would like to update my review once more. I took my car to be serviced at the dealer they told me that pepboys improperly installed the tire. They actually installed the tire backwards the threads were the wrong way. I brought my car to the Edison pepboys because the pepboys in Piscataway is useless. read more

Went there 04/21 for a balance and rotation. You would think they would've told me my tires was bald at that time but no. I get in my car it's worst than when I brought it there. Took it back they rotated the tires. I go on vaca and come back to drive it's still vibrating. I take it back on 05/06 and finally an older gentleman took me to the back and showed me why I was experiencing the vibration. It was due to the tires going bad. Older guy told the young guy at the desk that I'd be needing tires. He neglects to even offer me pricing on tires. So I'm there a total of 3 times for an issue that should've been noticed in the beginning. read more

My mom went to pepboys because she needed her right headlight changed and our usual mechanic wasn't available . she left there with the car unable to start and the dashboard completely unresponsive + (speedometer , gas meter etc) she went back in to ask why the car wouldn't start and after speaking to an attendant , they told her they she needed to buy a new battery from them. She couldn't believe that they were trying to make her spend more money again . She refused to buy a new battery and she was able to get jump start and leave. The battery never had a problem again but we still had to go to our usual mechanic to fix the damage they did to the dashboard. I had a similar experience a few years ago when they changed my radiator. They did a poor job installing it and my uncle who checked up on their work . showed all the lazy and half-assed short cuts they used upon looking under the hood of my car. If I could put no stars I would! Went in to get a part on a Thursday they said they could order it and that if I wanted I could pay 15 extra to get it the next day. I paid for everything the next day comes they couldn't find the part nor order another which was ridiculous to me. When I spoke to the manager he states that well I didn't pay the extra which isn't even the point my point is that I needed my part and because I didn't get it I was out of my car for even longer. Never would I ever recommend pep boys this is why I never go to them. All the manager did was say I'm sorry have a good day. That's not ok at all after all the headache just an apology then he goes oh I can give you a 25 gift card! I have seen the worst customer survice in my life. I went there to fix light of my car. They checked and said that there is another problem in the circuit and estimated too much high service charge for the new service. When I said to fix the light only they assistent manager behaved very rudely which is very unprofessional and not expected from a good company. Them I fixed the prblem in much lower price in Meineke. Worst Pep boys ever... First of all, this comment is not pertaining to the actual work or work done by the hardworking technicians or mechanics. I just went in for an oil change and i really cannot comment on the work. But the facility is poorly managed with a very bad attitude. I just went in for a oil change and it took 2 hours for me come out. The worst part is, even after the work was completed and the keys were handled back to the manager ( I saw it literally waiting in the finished work bin ) , he was just chit chatting with another customer for almost 30 minutes until i asked him if the vehicle is ready. After taking my vehicle to pepboys 3 times in the span of 2 weeks and spending 1500 dollars the third trip comprised of them looking to see if they were the cause of the new check engine light. Of course they found they were not, so i took the car to meineke to get it fixed. When meineke looked at it, they found that the evap system had the fuel line leaking into it (the second Pepboys trip was to fix the fuel pump) and that pepboys had left a wrecnh closing off the evap system in the car. An hour later I was told that my brakes needed the following. Brake fluid exchange $59.99, Front Rotors pkg $126.12, Remove and replace F stabilizer $125, Pepguard $25.50,Remove Replace tire rod end $150, Moog outer rod $50.53, Prosteer sway Bar $48.16, finally, Front brakes standard pkg $154.99. Total of $695 The price got knocked down to $460 with a $40 rebate. Nice Got tired typing all that numbers. I declined and went to a local guy Glenns and got everything done for $162. Done the same day. My car is driving back to normal. Do your self a favor and DONT go to Pepboys Save your money and from stress. They will do unnecessary add-ons that you dont need, so they could pocket a hefty commission. read more

After reading all these 1 star and Zero star reviews of this place, it makes me think of the time I took my Lexus RX300 there to diagnose a check engine light. It took almost 2 hours and then they charged me about a hundred bucks for some weird reason, I just paid the cash and left and never went back except to buy oil or air fresheners...I wouldnt trust this garage to put air in my tires.And I notice that almost every negative review on here is met with a response from the company that "We are experiencing technical issues." Had appointment at 9AM to buy 4 new tires. When going to check in at service center Alan said he would be right with me while on the phone. He then finished his call waited a minute and took another sales call while I'm standing right in front of him. Finally he starts to check me in (at 9:25 at this point) and the phone rings, which of course he picks up WHILE in the process of checking me in. I finally get checked in and they tell me 70 minutes later that one of my tire rims is missing and I have to drive back home to get it. (The fact that none of the other 3 tires were even attempted to be put on is a joke) I came back at 10:42 with the correct rim. At 11.26 they told me my car was about to start being worked on (2 and a half hours after my appointment). Congratulations Pepboys you have lost another customer. read more

If I could give them a zero rating I would. Don't go here unless you have no other choice. They constantly overcharge, they engage in shady bait and switch practices, and they just are unethical. I took my car in for a diagnostic because of an awkward feeling when accelerating. They told me it was my wheel hub. Ok. I had them replace it. On my way out, they tell me I need my brake hose replaced and they initially quoted me $150 for everything ($50 for the hose & $100 for the rest). I went to NAPA and bought the hose for a full $30 less than Pep Boys quoted me. I was happy to save a little money, because according to their quote, I would only have to put out $100. Well, this morning I take it back to them to fix and they tell me its gonna cost $190, even though I bought the part!!!! When I asked why it costs $140 more than it should, they said I need my brake system bled, which added an extra $70, plus miscellaneous fees. The original guy failed to mention that I needed my brake system bled when he told me I needed the hose replaced last time I was there. The guy I talked to today said his co-worker "must've forgotten to tell me." SERIOUSLY? You work at an auto repair place and you forget that? These guys actually used the same computer, which likely gave them both the same info, and they're telling me he FORGOT??? Needless to say, I just left. I'm taking it somewhere else tomorrow. This is not the first time I've had horrible experiences with this location. I had a caliper replaced in June of last year and within a matter of FOUR WEEKS, and very little driving beyond grocery shopping a few miles away, I had to take it back to them to have THE SAME PART REPLACED TWICE. I still have the receipts to prove it. Thank god they were under warranty. When I had additional work done by a different company last December, the mechanic said the part didn't even look like it had been replaced 5 months before that. And let's not even talk about the time you waste away while waiting for the work to be done. Ugh. They are utterly ridiculous. I really don't even know where to begin.. First off I'm giving a rating of 0 (zero) stars. My 6 year old autistic son could run a business better then they could. Upon getting into a moderately bad fender bender yesterday.. I got a flat tire today and was able to have some nice patrons help me put the spare on my Ford F150 Supercrew. I was able to drive to the PepBoys by my house in Piscataway to purchase a new tire. Told the manager in the tire center that I needed the tires aligned correctly and rotated as well as balanced. I go to pay my bill after over 3 hours of waiting.. Get in my truck and while I had driven some difference I decided to look at the receipt while at a red light. There was no tire rotation anywhere on the receipt. Granted, I should have read the receipt while still at PepBoys. Their excuse as to why it wasn't done was almost laughable but considering all I had been dealing with in the last 24 hours I was livid.. The guy who answered the phone after checking with the mechanics came back on the line and told me "Sorry about that the mechanic said it slipped his mind..." REALLY?? REALLY?!?! REALLY?!?!? At this point he knew I was angry and would feel the wrath when I got back in 5 minutes. Walked inside and immediately confronted the manager. He told me that it was a "misunderstanding"... Um not really especially when you repeated "tire rotation" back to me when I said it to you to begin with. His name is Justin. Waited another HOUR for my tires to be rotated. At this point it was dark out and from what I could tell and due to the fact they have no lighting in their parking lot I did a quick look to make sure all was well... I get home and the bright spot light of my house in the driveway was shining real bright where they SCRATCHED MY RIM!!!! I know it was them because a) it wasn't there before and I have pics to prove it b) You can see the tool mark because it was the new tire and it is right where they pull the rim out. c) There is a greasy mark from the gook that they use to put on tires for the rims to go on. If this is not handled correctly and accordingly I will take legal action. They really need to shut down this location or somehow hire people that are not incompetent. I'm disgusted and enraged by the lack of expertise here. ALSO.. I asked a salesmen while they were working on the tires to please help me find 2x 2 1/4 exhaust clamps.. that my boyfriend had asked me to pick up for his car. Assuming that the guy knew what he was doing I paid for the item and didn't think twice about it. Get home to give it to my boyfriend (mind you it was after all the crap I had already dealt with) only to find out the salesmen gave me Hose clamps... Like really?? The easiest thing for someone to do at that store and u give me the wrong item?? Tomorrow I will be contacting not only their regional manager but I will be contacting corporate. I do not have the patience to sit here and deal with another mistake from these people. read more

I recently moved and there is a meineke right up the street from my new home, I went there to have my oil changed and let me tell you how horrible it was. I was there for 6 hrs just for a oil change. The staff was not friendly and it was a all around bad experience. I came back to Pepboys. I was helped by Edgar who was kind, friendly, very professional. He answered all my questions and the price is unbeatable. He told me about the pepboys card which I got right there on the spot. He went out of the way to help me and make it the most affordable oil change I've ever had. One of my tires were low and they filled it for me at no cost. Checked my air filter and replaced it. I was quoted a time and that's exactly how long it took, It was just an all around good experience. I will never go anywhere else to have my oil changed or for any other car services. Wow. These people really go the extra mile for you. I was confused about some maintenance work that I needed done. What happened was they did exactly what I asked for but then it was discovered that what I said wasn't exactly what I meant. When I went back and explained, they did the extra work and did NOT charge me for labor. Went for service 8/9/17. First time for service, only go to buy parts. Purchased tires online. Was told they could have them installed in about an hour. Waited in store over 3 hours . Checked to see what was going on and found service tech did not even know how to work tire machine to put new tires on the rims. Another tech had to finally come over to install tires. When finally done they had installed the balancing weight on the outside of rims.I am in there system and a long time customer and purchase alot of parts from PepBoys. I will not be going to PepBoys anymore for parts or service don't have too. read more

I had a horrible experience at Pep Boys yesterday and I'm reporting them to the BBB!! My car was giving me problems for the last week and I needed to get three jump starts as I was sure I needed a new battery. Went to Pep Boys around 4:00 on Sunday afternoon, told them I needed a new battery. So they tell me they will check it out. About 5 minutes later the guy working there tells me it's not the battery, it's my starter!! I was quite shocked and upset as my car is a 2012, not exactly old and I've never needed a starter for any of my other Honda's, this is my fourth. So they tell me they can't do it as they were closing soon and that they had an opening on Tuesday. Oh and they wanted to charge me $605!! I go to my sister's house to tell her what happened. My brother in law said he would bring it to his mechanic as he is good and honest. Well guess what his mechanic said? He said it's NOT my starter as he checked it. He said my battery was bad and I needed a new one!! Also if I had needed a starter, he would have charged me $300, NOT $605!! I just want everyone to know that Pep Boys is a dishonest business and try to sell you something that you don't even need. I will NEVER EVER set foot in the store again!! And I'm warning everyone else to do the same. Thank God I got a second opinion!! Pep Boys likes to rip off women as they think they are stupid and gullible. If i can have given a zero star rating i would. My oil change took two hours. When my car was finally done and i went to get in my car i noticed my interior was dirty. Yes i know that is a possibly with going to a mechanic but they are supposed to use a paper floor mats...right? Yes. But the paper mat i took out was barely dirty. My tan floor mat on the other hand was no longer tan! It had black smeared oil and grease marks on it. I ended up having to call and go back to the shop for them to "take care" of it. More waste of my time. Not to mention my coupon for $20 off oil change only took $12 off my bill. I will not return to this establishment. read more

I arrived in time for my appointment and they told me it would be 2 hours. I questioned why it takes 2 hours for an oil change and they said they were very busy. I said, "That's why I made the appointment!" They told me the appointment doesn't guarantee the time, it just means that they will get to my car that day. WTF?? I am new to this Yelp thing - recently had a very positive experience and wanted to share. I recently moved to Piscataway NJ from San Diego CA for work. It is impossible for me to find a garage that is open when I end my work day and time is hard to come by on the weekends. Luckily, this Pep Boys is right around the corner from my new house. At first I was a bit hesitant to visit from reading online reviews. However, I have visited this location twice now and have had nothing but a pleasant experience. I am understanding, first and foremost, as to how long mechanical repairs take and how other people may indeed be ahead of me. I am fine with waiting as long as my car can get seen at night after I get out of work and there are no "bait and switch" tactics with pricing. Both times I have visited I have called ahead and spoken with Kyle who has been very trustworthy in terms of pricing and has gotten me set up with appointments. Each time I have visited there has been a very minimal wait and I have gotten my car handed back to me in less time than I have anticipated spending at the dealer or another private garage waiting. The pricing also has been so much less than the dealer or an aftermarket shop. Most recently, I got an oil change done here for $20 with a coupon. I called EVERYWHERE nearby - dealer, 3 private garages, and no one could even see me the same day when I called besides Pep Boys let alone top this price. Dealer wanted $40 for the same oil change WITH a coupon. It's nuts! Made the appointment immediately, came down after work, was greeted by an employee, Justin, who kindly directed me to the service counter where I spoke with Frank who was fantastic too. Within the hour my car was in, oil changed, even found and replaced a burnt out bulb, and I was back on about my life without the inconvenience of waiting in a dealership for hours with an inspection for a slew of work that I may or may not need to have done. I have spread the word to my co-workers about the experience. I think this shop must be a hidden gem, because other shops the wait times are just outrageous or they suggest leaving the car over night while this place gets me in right away. My wife's vehicle is coming up on needing tires soon and I recently started doing my research online. If you check Pep Boys for a coupon, their prices can match or beat TireRack/Tires.com and the best part is I do not need to worry about a shipping company dropping tires off outside my house that may or may not still be there when I get home. I also failed to mention something very important about the service I received here. When I returned to my car, there was still a plastic cover on the seat and a paper floor mat in the vehicle which was littered with footprints. Why would that make me happy? Because I am a customer. I care about my car, and I am glad they took the time to care about my car too. I once received my car back from another shop with a greasy boot print on my floor mat that took me an hour to get clean. It's the little things that will keep me coming back here. Will be back when I need tires for sure. I forgot to add - I use the CarFax app on my phone to track my service history and it is nice to find that Pep Boys reports data to CarFax. Now I can just open my app and view service history to remind myself how much mileage I am putting on in a year, when I need oil changes, etcetera. read more

Stay away from this store .. The people work here do not respect you or your car , I had a very bitter experience unfortunately. When I went to get my car repaired here . They quoted me 700$ dollars for my old 2003 Camry car , I was ready to pay the bill but I negotiated to get the necessary repairs to run the car and it has come to 500$ and The guy by name Chris helped finding a coupon . Meanwhile I had a talk with a guy who seems to be manager by name Rahul and asked if I could get any help to sell the car and he ask me to junk my car or sell him for 100$ which hurts me lot , and top of it he said do not take it personal . How some one will not take it personal when ready to pay 500$ for car repair and ask to sell the car for 100$.. Isn't it ridiculous .though I decided to get my car repaired, as I had no choice and went to pickup my car the next day. Horrible place, avoid at all costs. I recently came in for an oil change. The guy at the front desk was rude and unhelpful, raising his voice at me for no reason. I almost left, but I needed the oil change. So, I asked him when my car would get seen and how long it would take. He said a half hour to start the oil change and another 30 minutes - a total of one hour - until my car would be finished. So, I waited in the store for an hour until he called me. I expected my car was finished. Turned out, it had just been driven into the bay. I told the front desk guy he'd said my car would be done by then. He ignored what I said and began yelling over me. He said they hadn't done the oil change because they'd found an oil leak. I never saw any oil leak, in snow or out. Then he said there was a problem with my right wheel and the car was unsafe to drive. What that has to do with getting my oil changed, I don't know. I came for an oil change, which I didn't get, and Pep Boys decides to be my mechanic. Mr. Front Desk then said he shouldn't release my car to me! I was about to call the police, and firmly told him to give me my keys, my car, and a copy of the canceled work order. I said he just earned one star. this place changed for the better!!! new associates are helpful and patient. one in particular, scarlett, took her time to help me. she was busy doing something so I just asked a quick question. she stopped what she was doing and walked with me to the product I was looking for, helped me choose one I needed and explained how to use it. then she brought me to the register and checked me out all with a huge smile and pleasing attitude. will deffinetly be back, ask for scarlett! 5 stars all the way!! read more
