My TPMS light came on, and this store was the closest to me, so I thought I would stop in and see what I needed to do. I spoke to the counter associate and told him what was going on. He told me he would have to charge to test all four tires, then quoted a price for the part and labor. The total was going to be around $170.00. They didn't have the part so I was going to have to come back. Since I wanted to get it taken care of right away due to a road trip, I did a little research online. Everything I saw said to go to WalMart, which I've never done. They fixed it in 15 minutes for under $29 total. I understand trying to make a little extra, but that is a pretty big disparity, and I just don't think it's right. Z read more

Very disappointed. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but there are no excuses. I made an appointment at 2:30pm today. I took time off from work and I showed up at 2:20pm. They told me the car will be ready at 4pm. I arrived on time just to hear that my car didn't even started. Not a call, not a text. Everyone can make mistake, but this service shows no value for customers. What could improve? Care more. I'm finished with this Pep Boys as they absolutely suck. I did at one time get good service but they completely have gone down hill since. I brought my Truck in on a Saturday with an appointment and they strung me along as my Truck sat there all day in the parking lot as nothing was done and absolutely nothing but excuses as they always do at this Pep Boys. I brought my Truck in again to check for an oil leak coming near the oil pan BIG MISTAKE, the service advisor said its Sunday and the Service Tech is not in yet that works these issues. I took my Volkswagen Jetta 2014 here to fix the 12v charger outlets to charge your phone. The courtesy inspection fee was for $59. They hooked me up & fixed my 12v outlets for free. Having many disappointing experiences with several auto shops I can say I was not disappointed. Overall the experience was very satisfactory & I appreciate working with professionals who take their jobs seriously. He said I'd have to schedule an appointment but didn't even try to see if I'd take the appointment. As soon as I was greeted he tried to use this sad voice "aww, I don't have a technician available." I'm thinking that's fine. asked the year of my vehicle and he's like "awe I don't have a technician for that. Everyone wants to be a mechanic, til it's time to be a mechanic. We brought our car here years ago to fix the AC. I could not afford a new compressor at the time so they pumped the AC system full of green goo to stop leaks. It never worked and no mechanic since will touch the system for fear it will destroy their own equipment. Multiple mechanics have told me I need a complete replacement of my AC system. Took my '94 Jeep Wrangler here because it was having trouble starting. I would have taken it to my normal mechanic, but he is not open on the weekend. I asked for a quote for a new starter in case that was it. They said they would check everything before installing a new starter. They didn't call me or anything after they did the diagnostics, but they did let me know in the afternoon that my Jeep was ready to pickup with a new starter installed for $460. I picked it up the next day, and immediately had problems after I drove it away. It gave a strange sound when I started it after getting home, so i drove it back to Pepboys. Once there, I told them it had a very strange sound when i started it, and when I tried went to start it in front of them, it wouldn't start. They had 3 guys looking at my battery and starter, and asked me to start it several times. It became apparent that when one of the guys adjusted the clamps on my battery, the power would turn on and off on my dashboard. The battery is only 3 months old, and was tested right before i brought it in to Pepboys, so i knew the problem wasn't the battery. I now realize, the power from the battery was not getting to the rest of the car prior to me bringing it in, because the dashboard was not turning on the whole time.... the starter was never the problem. They should have realized that if they are the professionals. They charged me $460 for the new starter and installation. It took them a long time to provide an estimate for new battery connectors/clamps, so I asked them to call me with the estimate. A couple hours later they called me, $360 for clamps with installation! Ridiculous!!!!. A bunch of clowns working here, don't waste your money. I should have waited to Monday when my regular mechanic could have taken care of it. read more

Went in to get my brakes checked because I needed new front brakes so I left the car with them. Of course they checked it and they called me telling me I needed a new air cabin filter and a new air filter and a new battery and fluids and so forth. They quoted me an additional $300 on top of what they were already charging me for my brakes and saying that the air filters were dirty and my battery was low not knowing that I just had all that replaced 3 days prior so there's no way any of it was dirty and there's no way my battery was low. On top of that I have a sensor in my car that reached to my phone that tells me what my battery level is at and it says it's at 100%. I think it's absolutely insane that they would call you to upsell you things that you do not need whatsoever. I cannot recommend going to this pep Boys if this is the service that they provide. read more

Had a HORRIBLE experience with their Assistant Manager who is so unprofessional and needs to be trained in customer service. I had an appointment to have my engine light checked the wait time was very long and I had to be somewhere later that day. So I made an appointment to come back on Sunday so they can actually run the diagnostic. I explain that I already paid for the diagnostic test and what happens. Mr Assistant Manager says the only thing he sees is that I am there for a smoke test and has no information that I already paid $99.00 He asked me who I talked to and where is my paperwork. Carlos the other employee tells him he remembers me from yesterday he wasn't the one who took my payment. I show my on my phone the charge which says Pep Boys store $99.00. He says he only sees a debit and nothing else. He is calling me a LIAR so I go home come back with the paperwork and Carlos has no CLUE how to give a refund which shows how poorly these employees are trained. I was in retail back in the day and we were trained to give refunds. Mr ASSISTANT MANAGER says he doesn't know how to give a refund and I have to come back on Monday to talk to the manager. The best part Carlos tells me the mechanic from yesterday is there and can get my car done. I told no I was called a LIAR by the ASSISTANT MANAGER there is NO WAYi will ever do business here again. I will also be taking to their corporate office and if I don't get my money back talk to the BBB. I highly recommend for customers not to do business here and go somewhere where you will be treated with respect. This is not how you treat customers. read more

I dropped my car off at this Pep Boys yesterday 7/8/25 for a brake rotor and pad repair, and I am sad to say the front desk help was not what I had hoped. As a result of some emergencies, my credit is not the best and I am unable to apply for credit cards successfully. I mentioned this yesterday with reassurance that "we can do it tomorrow (7/9) when you pick the car up. It will be fine." It was not fine, my prediction was correct, and I was told they would have to keep the car. If I had taken the credit check the day prior, I would have been happy to find someone else to bring my car to who would work with me on an installment plan. Instead, I feel duped: treated as "lesser than" for needing to breakup the reasonable but still expensive repair. If the ability to finance or pay in installments is needed, find a single-shop mechanic you can trust to do the work and not a Big Box shop without heart. read more

Spent $2300 on an overhaul of my AC system and a new radiator. The wrong parts were ordered and installed, so they kept it another 3 days to correct the mistake. When I drove the car, water was dripping inside the vehicle on to my passengers feet. I then took it back a few days later to have it checked out. They assured me everything was OK. About 5 days later the AC fan and fuses blew out due to an electrical short. I returned once more to have the issue resolved. They then handed me another invoice for $850, which I refused to pay. I called the manager Carlos the following day to demand my car back, but according to an associate, "It was his day off". Also claiming that other management team member could help me. They are now holding my car ransom for the money and will not in any way acknowledge their shoddy work. This is pure negligence and they take no accountability for their mistakes. A radiator fan would not randomly blow out if a new radiator was installed and everything done correct the first time. They clearly re-wired it wrong and the leaking fluid obviously caused the short. This is disgraceful and I have now filed a report with the California State Board of Consumer affairs. I will also be going to smalls claims court for the loss of income from having the vehicle withheld from me. Nobody has called me back in 2 days and I am furious with this place. The revolving door of mangers and staff here should have been a red flag for me. The corporate office is just as hopeless resolving the issue and time is irrelevant to them. I will fight this bullshit until they understand the repercussions of doing business this way. read more

I have a sad story to tell everyone. The Pep Boys got into their senior years and lost their "Pep" and sold the company to Advanced Auto Parts. This Pep Boys retail location will not be a Pep Boys anymore the manager told me. I discovered this when I went in for a part it was not on the shelf and things were moved around. I asked the manager where the item is located and he said they are not restocking anything. "This is it--the end is near." He said they will keep the service area and it will still be called Pep Boys but the Retail will operate as a separate company. This sounds like an unfortunate mess. I had to get the parts elsewhere. I can't help but think about how it all started years ago....Three boys were fixing their go-carts and grandma comes out and says, "Boys...you have a lot of Pep!" Service manager Genaro Chan is fair and wants to earn your business. Kristofer was nice and resourceful. They did a great job on a tire installation package with tire mounting , 90-days wheel balance, and the computerized wheel alignment. They could not wave the California tire tax. They did give a sweet discount (355.98). Total out the door $614.31. Plus, with the tire purchase received one year of roadside assistance at no additional cost! Take that AAA! You will not be charged a tire handling charge if you choose to dispose of your own tires. Be sure to sign up for the rewards points - use the points in-store to purchase other merchandise. They told me they are working on a car and that there would be not enough time. Even tough only one guy worked on the car and the other one was just standing around. I explained that I live 40 miles away and I would even pay them money to just patch it which would take 5-10 min. They refused to help with bad attitude. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE! This is the 2nd time we took a car there & got the same NON-PROFESSIONAL service. It was a simple one-tire fix, & they took my car in during the daytime, said it would be ready in a couple of hours. Never heard from them for a long while. It was dark now & an hour before they closed. I called & called, & called to get an update. NO ONE WOULD ANSWER THE PHONE! We went back there got the keys & took my Prius home. It was sitting out in their parking lot waiting for the catalytic converter to be stolen. SAME as first time I took a car there for repair. This place is a joke, I sent my car in to be notified 2 hours later that it was too low, despite me asking if we should check if Id make it. I came back, picked up the car, put it on jackstands, and dropped the wheels off for me to then wait another hour, drive to the store, and watch for another 20 minutes not one person even touch a single wheel. I called while I was there and they finally went out to look at them, and then leave me on hold while not a single wheel was taken to be serviced. I brought them back home after being there for the rest of my evening just to then find out as im putting the tires on, they put the tire on wrong. Now I have directional tires facing the wrong way. NEVER AGAIN! First, I had an online appointment for a smog check and headlight. I arrived at 7:30 AM and saw the "Open for Service" sign sitting out and the door unlocked even though posted opening hours are 8 AM. As I opened the door thinking they had it open so they could at least check in early, someone came flying around the corner, "Cant you see the sign we open at 8." So I went back out and waited. At 7:45 the same person came and said, "we don't open until 8, but I can at least get you checked in so you are serviced sooner." Not sure what happened in 15 minutes but oh well. Then I am advised they don't do smog checks, I am 0 for 1 at this point. It should be noted when I got home the main webpage says they do state inspections. When I clicked on it it said, "most locations." I drilled down to this location's section on their website and this one does not. He then went to check for the headlamp and came back and said they do not have it in stock. 0 for 2 now. I should have just stuck with Toyota and will from here on out. I remember when Pep Boys service was friendly and courteous back when they were a service center and a "pick-a-part" auto part shop. Hello, I am leaving a review because I have been a Pep Boys customer for 6 years and a owner of a business with 10 vehicles, all of which I bring them to pep boys to have all the tires on my trucks replaced yearly. Today I came in to the Redondo beach location to have a tire plugged due to a nail. I normally go to the Downey Location. I spoke to Justin and he said it would be 1.5 hours to have it looked at I was kinda in a hurry and I pushed a little. I waited came back and he said the tire was not fixable. Told me I had to get a new one. I had the tire hazard warranty and had about 10000 miles on the tire as it was 6 months old. I said okay. He said it would be there by 2 pm. I left and did some work. I came back at 215 and no tire. I said cool I will come get it tomorrow. I went to prepay the bill and they tried charging me more for the tire then I originally paid for it.I tried explaining it to them and tried showing bill from original purchase and was told by Ian the manager that I was being rude. I asked for my tire and left. Took the same tire to my Downy location and they plugged the tire and said it didn't need replacing. Please be careful of this place. They are dishonest and in the heat of the moment there customer service stills disappear. I have the ability to change out my own tires and found the same tire on Amazon for 157.00, Ian the manager said the tire couldn't be any cheaper then 196.00 dollars that they were trying to charge me. Other company's I recommend you check out are American Tires, Costco or the tire and brake shop on the corner of Inglewood and Manhattan beach Blvd. These are local company's that don't have an Ian the manager in there. read more

Want your car to be sicker than when you brought it in? Then, bring it here. Read these reviews before even considering this place! I wish I had. I brought my car in for a nail removal. In the past, I've had a great experience. This was a whole different world. 1. The man who checked me in couldn't be bothered with me. It's as if I was waking him up from his nap. He told me I'd be "lucky to have my car done in an hour." Um, I had an appointment; there were two cars in the garage; there were five men "working". Ok, maybe I'm lucky, but he felt so entitled to tell me so. 2. At exactly an hour, my car was ready. 3. The man who checked me out, was much friendlier. But then, the system went down. I was told I'd get an email receipt. Never got one. 4. I drove my car out. As soon as I did, my PSI on my car informed me that 3 tires were at 34; the tire that was fixed was at 42. I drove right back. Also, the tire pressure monitor used to be automatic every time I started the car; now it takes a minute before I see the tire pressure. What did they do? How is this even possible? 5. The nice man who helped me, took a look at my tire. He did his thing and said it was fixed. When I drove out, this time it said the tire was at 38. I did not go back. And I'm never going back. EVER. I have absolutely NO CONFIDENCE that the nail removal was done correctly. NONE. Who knows what they did. I'm going to have to get this checked out. I wouldn't trust Pep Boys with my trash. I used to love this place. But the "Pep" has been replaced with "Rude" and "Incompetent." read more

They changed my brakes and brake discs, later I found out that they did not tighten one of the locking wheel nut ! It fell off and started to make ticking noises! Also I started noticing brown dust on the rims . That means the brake pads are worn down. So they did not change my brake pads! Terrible place to get your car fixed! read more

BEWARE OF PEP BOYS SERVICE. Some of you may be considering or are using Pep Boys for servicing your car. I want to pass on to you, my families experience. When we got the car back, it was noted that the oil pan had cross threading where the drain plug goes. The Pep Boys Service Writer look at the service history of oil and filter changes. Pep Boys was responsible for the damage. The Service Writer explained the service history to the Service Manager he offered 50% off of the $900+ to replace the oil pan. This is for damage they caused. After several days Pep Boys called to say they will cover the cost. The oil pan was replaced. A few days after it was replaced, the car started to have trouble. The car was eventually taken to the dealer. The Honda Dealer found that the replacement oil pan had been modified. There was obvious plier like marks on the oil filter threaded connector on the replacement oil pan. The modification also didn't allow the oil filter to be fully screwed down leaving a gap. This caused lack of sufficient oil to the engine. The lack of sufficient oil destroyed the engine. Pep Boys finally sent an inspector, several weeks later. He agreed with the Honda Dealer's assessment. The Pep Boys Claim Representative over a week later authorized replacement of the engine with a used engine. The engine is replaced, Pep Boys is not giving the Honda Dealer the paperwork which guarantees payment for the work. The Honda Dealer is keeping the car until they do which is now going on two additional weeks. How many of you could go through not having a car for almost two months now I recently put in a complaint to the California Bureau of Auto Repair and they are starting their investigation. My car battery was dead yesterday morning so it got towed to Pep Boys and I met with Alexis in the Service Center. He was friendly, polite and very helpful. Alexis had my battery replaced with a new battery with 4 months better warranty than my original! The whole ordeal for me didn't last more than 1 hour and Alexis not only answered all my questions but gave me valuable information to help me maintain my car. Thank you Mr. Alexis!
