My son dropped by for a rear wiper blade today. They tacked on and additional $30 to the cost of the wiper and said it was for "installation". When my son said he'd install it himself they said they could not give him the wiper. Pep Boys is supposed to do FREE installation when you buy the blade from them!!! And there's NO WAY they are prohibited from giving you the wiper blade for self install. Total scammers! read more

Found out that they did not open until 11:00 AM. Called customer service and got case number but they never followed up on it. Also left message with email, they never followed up. Customer service is horrible. I was with my friend when he was waiting on getting a nail removed and fixed for his tire. The car was finished and when he approached the technician, he was told to check out with the cashier. So he go to the cashier and was told they were finishing up the paper work and he'll be on his way. Well, he sat there for a half hour and waited in front of the cashier Galvin. Finally, he approached Galvin and asked when his car would be ready, Galvin G said very sarcastically "didn't you get a text?" With a very smug look on his face all the while my friend was literally sitting in front of him!! That's unprofessional! My friend emailed corporate to complain and he got a case number, but judging by the horrible reviews, no one cares! Pep Boys Damages Diplomatic Vehicle! Beware of standard and advanced services at Pep Boys! We brought in a diplomatic vehicle for standard air conditioning service and left with a damaged vehicle, failed fuel pump, ragged running engine, and several thousand dollars in expenses! When the vehicle was retrieved, it was decided to bring it to Herb Chambers Chevrolet of Danvers in order to be properly diagnosed and repaired by experts. Upon retrieval, the vehicle ran abnormally and failed completely at Herb Chambers Chevrolet of Danvers. Certified Chevrolet technicians discovered that Pep Boys had installed the fuel pump improperly--springs detached, dowels missing, unit unseated (see attached video link www.mkvwa16.com/p/tQO7b2.html)--causing system-wide damage to the vehicle. It took Pep Boys more than a month to respond, only after threat of legal action. Damages totaled $7,242.43, including parts, labor, and rental car expenses. I was told I needed a complete brake job even though I had that service done less than 4000 miles ago from brake lines to calipers. The car was then delivered without the hood latch working. I noticed a flat tire one morning recently and saw a huge nail in my tire so I switched to the spare tire and made a same day appointment at Pep Boys since it was close and I could avoid driving on the highway with my spare tire. My appointment was at 4, but when I arrived they asked me if I could wait and come back at 5 since they were very clearly understaffed. I was a little annoyed initially, but enjoyed an hour at the nearby Target. When I came back they quickly removed the nail and patched up my tire within 30 minutes. The staff member didn't charge me and thanked me for my patience. Everywhere is understaffed right now and more appreciation is needed for the people doing their best to complete more work than they should be asked to do! Thank you Pep Boys! read more

First time I went I was told I had to make an appointment to get my Jeep aligned. I make an appointment and was there 20 min early and I was told the 7 cars were in front of me and that I needed to leave the car. I made a stink and the guy took my car left in the bay for 20 min, then gave it back to me staying in was finished, they did not ever work on it. Call the company main office and was told someone will get back to me about the problem and NO ONE has. I left it over night as I had to go to work. With a appointment next day they had me wait over an hour to just put on a tire! The customer service at this place (Salem, Highland Ave) is horrible. These people have zero communication skills. This was my first time there and will be my last. Never again will I ever visit this or any other PEP Boy for that matter. There's no regard for customer's time or satisfaction. It's take it or leave it mentality and next time I'm going to leave it and take my business elsewhere. I was recently on their website and founded tires I wanted. I decided to buy them since there was actually an online promotion on the purchase of just 2 tires--which was what I needed. Didn't realize the hoops I was going to have to jump through just to get it. Their website won't let me just add it to the cart. Their onsite chat system was not functioning so I called the store and was told they don't handle the website issue but she know they do have the tires I want in stock in her shop but she can't sell them to me if it's an online only promotion which she can't confirm anyway. WTH?! Before I could get anymore answer, apparently there was a bad connection and she hung up. Tried calling back multiple times only to get a busy signal, odd to say the least. Called the website support line at least it wasn't a long wait. But I got someone who was unwilling to help until I was raising my voice in frustration! WTH. Your job is to resolve my problem not tell me that's how the website is. Trying to give me all sort of reasons as to why it's not giving me what I want is NOT resolving my issue. Why am I pulling teeth just to get something as simple as adding an item into the cart done! Finally after I was able to purchase the tires and schedule the available 3 o'clock appointment, I received a call shortly after asking if it's okay if I had to leave my car overnight. WTF kind of service is that!? "We're already back up and have two more cars to work on and we close at 5," was the reason Lauren gave me. If you can't keep the appointment why have the time slot open? I proceed to ask, "Well what's my resolution?" I already paid for the tires and booked the appointment. Again the only answer is basically NO answer... "If you don't show up for the appointment, then we'll cancel your order and refund you." That's NOT a resolution! I needed to get my tires replaced. Can't be driving with a spare donut in this frozen tundra we're experiencing. I asked "What' the latest it'll be ready?" I was told between 9:30 to 10 AM the next day. FINE. I drop off my car and confirm I wanted the new tires to go on the two front wheels. I wasn't called to confirm my car was ready until 11AM! These people have no regard for customer's time! When I went to pick up my car, I noticed the two new tires were NOT on the front as I had requested! Instead they replace the two front tires with the rear and placed the new tires I bought on the rear instead. When I asked why they did that and not as I asked. Lauren again, just said "We can't place new tires on the front." Why didn't you say that when I dropped off the car? And "we can't" isn't an adequate answer either. Is there a law? A regulation? Give me an explanation. At this point I had enough and just wanted to take my car and get out of there. So pissed, I snatch my receipt and as I turned to walked away Lauren raised her voice and wish me good day! WTH. I took this as a rude insult to an already dissatisfied customer. I'm docking them 3 stars for not honoring their own reservation process and another one for the small print on the oil change coupon that says that it does not include "shop fees." I made my appointment online and showed up 10 minutes early. After waiting those 10 minutes for my turn at the counter I was informed that all of the techs were busy and that it would take 20 minutes before they could get to me. I suggested that I might run some errands and come back in 20 minutes and was informed that I would lose my place in line if I were to do so. For better or for worse, this gave me two hours (yes, two hours) to sit and watch them take both walk-ins and reservations in order, with no regard for reservation priority. When they finally got done with my oil change (two hours later), I was informed that my $19.99 oil change deal was actually $25 "...due to taxes and other things." As it turns out, "other things" include $3 in "shop fees," which are apparently not part of an oil change. Yes, this is in the small print on the coupon. Note that I got the oil changed on our other car yesterday at Meineke, another half mile or so down Highland Avenue. At Meineke, they took my car in right away, actually a few minutes early for my reservation, finished within 30 minutes, and their $17.99 oil change only costs $17.99 + tax. Imagine that. read more

Total rip off. I called the car's make service Dept. The day after and the battery was only going to be $135 and $35 for labor. DO NOT GO HERE! These guys are a bunch of crooks! My son went here because his engine light was flashing and he lost power. They FIRST charged him $100 for a diagnostic test (you know, the one that AutoZone does for FREE), made him wait for 2 hours and then told him that it would cost $650 to give him a tune up!!!!! My son paid the diagnostic test fee, left and then limped his car down to AutoZone 2 miles down the road and they tested his car for free, (the codes said he had two bad spark plugs) sold him $20 in spark plugs and my son fixed it HIMSELF with borrowed tools from the guy at AutoZone. AutoZone checked his work, ran another diagnostic test and it had NO MORE CODES! When I called the manager the next day, I told him I was upset that he took advantage of a young, broke college kid. On January 31st, my wife and I took our car for the first oil change to my recently purchased used vehicle (purchased in November 2014), scheduled for an appointment at that time. Our vehicle was in excellent conditions prior to entering for services. After an hour and a half we received our vehicle, which at that time we drove back home. On our way home the car acted unusual, but didn't pay much attention at first. We got home and drove to downtown Boston (1 hour drive). During the ride, we started noticing that the car was acting weird, specifically the engine, a light knocking sound started, loss of power from what it was used to (276hp, V6 engine). The whole ride to Boston the car engine made uncommon noises and we called Pep Boys Shop and ** advised us to take it back; which we did later that afternoon. Driving the car was acting even worst, engine sounded rough and forced, hard knocking noise and the engine light came on after a couple minutes the oil warning light as well. We finally arrived. It turns out that the car leaked all the oil during the day and it was left with less than 2 quarts when we got it to the shop. We agreed to leave the car overnight and that the following day they will look and inspect more in depth. After 1 week and no calls of any updates, they needed me to return the rental I demanded and to go pick up my car. Their only answer was that they did an oil change to the vehicle, AGAIN. Well, the next day of course, oil leaked and engine gave up. Diagnostic: Burnt engine due to lack of oil (Agency Dealer). Pep Boys Service Warranty states: Automotive service and installed parts are warranted for 90 days or 4,000 miles, whichever comes first, unless different warranty terms are specified on the invoice too. We also initiated a customer complaint to Pep Boys Headquarters, and two months have passed nothing back. Not even the store manager is taking responsibility because they say it wasn't their fault. 30-day demand letter was sent, no response. Taking the next step to file suit and take them to court. read more

The guy i talked to in the service department told me "you dont need an appointment come down any time". When i got there The woman at the desk told me it would be a two hour wait before my car would be seen. I told her that i had just called and told i didnt need to make an appointment. Do not go to this PetBoys , I want to share my story because I felt like the way they handle this whole situation wasn't professional , and they were not honest at all . I recommend anybody who needs repairs in their car to Google your problem ,before you go to any shop , there are a lot of resources out there and there are people trying to tell you thighs that are not right and will exploit you lack of knowledge in their advantage . This is the story So I went to this Pepboys because is near to my house and I had repair my car in the past , so I went to fix a wheel bearing problem in my car , I left my car around 9:30s on Friday 8/14/15 , so same afternoon they call me to let me know how much would cost ..etc , I agreed then went to get the car , when I turn my car on the ABS and the VSA stay on , I told then hey this light shouldn't be on , with a fresh face they told me after you drive your car about 10-15 miles will go away , I was like BS. So I drove the car enough and light didn't go away , I took my car next day to then and they supposedly fix the problem , they said that was a lot of dust between the wheel Bering and the sensor triggering the light to go on , so I was like ok it may happened , so I got the car back without no light on so everything was fine till I drove the car in the rain , the light came on again , I called explaining what happened ,they told me to bring the car next morning and also said if is not our fault you need to pay for us to check it , I was like hold on a second you've been working the past repairs on my car , one for front brakes and now for this which Is in the front also so I couldn't resist to check the car myself up so I lift the side they worked on it and check the sensor , for my surprise the screw that hold the sensor wasn't there making the sensor lose , so I was like let me check the other side just to check if this is normal and bang the other screw was there holding the sensor . So my thing here is my broken wheel Bering was bad and it didn't trigger any light in the dash so they only logic explanation I can come across is or either they never put that screw there or they didn't not tighten well enough that make that screw lose. So I will take my car tomorrow and see what they have to say hopefully they don't pretend me to pay another $450 for their lack of professionalism . Today is 8/22/15 went there I was told things were fine is just a computer glitch ,bullshit , I look again the sensor does not have no screw on it , Steve told me they did not touch that , really mother fucker you think I'm stupid I won't rest till either you fix my car complete or I get everybody involved on this fired ...anyone who read this KEEP AWAY FROM THIS STORE THIS PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES !!!! read more

Normally I got to my local guy for everything, but for 4 new tires to replace the worn and bald tires on a car we don't drive much? I want the finest cheapest tires money can buy. After much comparison shopping I headed to pepboys, for literally the cheapest tires I could find in an internet search. I ordered my tires and scheduled an appointment from the comfort of my office, and planned my day around 2 hours at Pepboys. I arrived on time and brought my paperwork and spoke to someone at the service desk. Both employees looked shocked that they had a scheduled appointment for tires. It was as if no one bothered to look at the incoming orders before that moment. The guy had to search for my 4 tires to make sure they were in stock. The woman who seemed to be in charge informed me that my 10am appointment wouldn't be kept because they were short a guy. If they had called or emailed me I'd have delayed my trip over by 30 or 45 minutes. She convinced me to stay, though they were bringing in additional vehicles and those people were not in the store waiting. I was. They ended up not even bringing my car in for another hour, where it sat on the lift for another 20 minutes before they touched the tires. I didn't end up leaving until well after 1pm. If you read this and not anything else I've written. Please beware of this particular pep boys. I figured since this place is a large chain, they should be better than the small businesses around the area. WRONG. These guys are jokes. I needed my brakes fixed so they recommended me to install a new brake system such as brakes, rotors, calipers Ect. That day, They had me go to auto zone and buy the calipers Aswell as rotors because they didn't have them in stock. So I did. They installed them for a few hundred bucks. Pep boys did the job and claimed everything was good to go. 2 weeks later my pregnant wife and I were coming from Beverly hospital and my brakes FAIL. Luckily I drive a standard and was able to downshift to avoid other cars. I called pep boys to advise them of the seriousness of the situation and that I needed a tow to get there so they could take a second look. SURPRISE SURPRISE, they won't tow me without taking a chunk of change from my wallet. I called my wife a cab and I drove very carefully through Beverly/Salem to get to them. Once I get there, they take a look at the car and say "the caliper on the car is too big". WHAT??? I gave them my receipt and asked why they did the job if the parts were not right? They told me auto zone parts are bad quality and I should have purchased from a better retailer. After fighting with them for hours they decided to give me 1 New caliper. The only good thing I can say about this place is Jamal! Personable and knows what's going on. Unfortunately he wasn't there when this started. Purchased tires w/ hazard warranty. Took my car I for a bubble in my tire (a good size one too). They told me how dangerous it was to drive on that, and I "was lucky)". That was until they discovered they did not have my tire in stock! Then it was ok to drive until they shipped tire from CA, which they said would take 3-5 business days, and they would call me as soon as it came in.
