This shop I'd say is good when you want change oil service to your car. However at one incident last Sept 2024, they messed up my KIA Sorento Hybrid (used the wrong oil filter / gasket). After the oil change was done and I left their shop, my car started to lose engine power and noticed engine temperature indicator starting to rise. Fortunately, I was still able to bring it back to their shop. They checked the car and found oil splatter on the engine bay and underneath the car. So they flushed the remaining oil, cleaned the engine with a degreasing agent and (as they say) used only low pressure water. As a courtesy to this incovenience they refunded me the amount I paid and also said the next oil change will also be free. Now months later (February) after the incident, noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust. And last July, a check engine light came out with code P0471(exhaust pressure sensor error). I now worry of a more serious problem on the car. They even suggested me to get it checked with KIA and see if my extended warranty will cover it. Which is what I did. And unfortunately, after paying total of $500 for diagnostic checks done separately by 2 different KIA dealerships, the recommendation is to replace the EGR valve and the EHRS which would cost me close to ~$3K. Worse the insurance is not covering it. So, having my faith and trust (still) with the guys at Meineke Peabody, I went back to get their services to do the repair recommended by KIA. Dave (store manager) initially quoted me $900+ for the EGR valve and harness replacement (vs $1600 KIA quote). We talked about the EHRS repair to be done in the future. So we set the schedule, 8/28 (Thurs) I brought them the car back since the EGR parts needed are already available. After a few hours, got a call and they said check engine light is solved and they just put the EGR connector; they charged me ~$280 for that task (and maybe plugging in the engine light code scanner). The next day (Friday), the check engine light came out again. Called Dave and asked me to bring back the car again to them the following week after the 9/1 labor day holiday. 9/5 (last straw of my patience) - back at Meineke, left the car at 1pm and I was told to come back after 4 hrs and the car will be fixed. Got a call from Dave after an hour telling me they can't fix my car's issue and suggested to bring it to KIA and that them do it. I feel like it is not that "they can't", it is that "they DON'T want to fix it at all and avoid further responsibility of the blunder they did from the Sept 2024 oil change incident. Talking about customer service and accountability with after service/back job repairs from this store. Felt ripped off. Won't be coming back again to this shop. Oil change: My daughter came in and was told she needs to get new rear breaks within 4 months. They gave her a number of 4-5 for the pad's condition. She got a "weird feeling", so she went to Monroe in Danvers. They gave her a 8-9 pad condition and told her the breaks are in excellent condition! They sent her home without a charge. Very upsetting first and last visit today. I needed an oil change and as a disabled VN Veteran ( high risk for Covid) my son in law took my car in for an oil change. I had him ask if they could install my engine air filter, which I provided, they did this (less than 5 minute job) and charged me $25! When my daughter called in to complain on my behalf the manager/ owner was condescending and rude to her. I hope he's satisfied with losing a six car family for a $25 rip off. I say to any VFW, American Legion and Marine Corps League members do yourself a favor and go to an honest shop. By the way, had this man told us he was going to charge us that much BEFORE he install it we'd have declined. That is what any professional would do. But we weren't told and we didn't know the charge until we paid and left. Also the coupons he sends on line are useless. I cannot find any notation that discount was given. I wish there a was 0 star rating... So I have been going to this Peabody location for years. Every time I go in, theres a man (Steve) with a grin on his face at the door (never has been welcoming to me) "what do you need" kind of attitude.. So my last visit in, I got an oil change. The man came out and told me that the plug stripped and I need a new plug..ok what are you gonna do. So I paid for them stripping the plug. Since my oil change, I have been noticing spots in the driveway. (its summertime, so I figured it was condensation from the AC). After a few times of noticing it I realized it wasn't water, it was oil!! I went back to the location today to explain my situation. I told steve that the plug failed and now I have a ruined driveway with about 10 oil spots, 3-7 inches wide.. Steve lost it on me. I mean scary crazy. It turned into being my fault (just like the stripped plug). He told me that it has been 'tampered with'.. I assured him that I am the only one that has touched the truck and I haven't been near the plug..he started yelling at me again (more like SCREAMING!!).. I had to get out of there before he got any more violent than he already was. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing business with Meineke. Not only this location but all. why all? I made my appointment went in and within 15 minutes they were done. Now I understand it was a free oil change but it should have been explained that that's all it was and if I wanted anything else it would've been an additional charge. So, mixed review. The guys who work here are decent, but the company's muffler warranty policy is designed to rip you the eff off. Back in 2007 I had my muffler replaced here after a friend driving my car decided to just drive over a foot tall snow bank instead of going around it. Yada yada yada, lifetime warranty, blah blah blah, quick & relatively cheap fix, done. Awesome. Brought it back a week later because something near the muffler was rattling, turned out a clamp was loose, quick & free fix, done. Awesome. Last week, I had an engine misfire and these guys had the cheapest quote on spark plug replacements, so brought my car in again. Quick & cheap fix, done. Awesome. Today, however, I had a less than pleasant run in with company policy. The tailpipe on my muffler had rusted off to the point that it was only held on by about an inch of rusted metal. Driving around, I sounded like a 16 year old suburban kid in a souped up ZX3. I brought it in under the muffler warranty, asked if the tailpipe was covered and they said it was. HOWEVER, they said in order to replace the tailpipe, they needed to replace $120 in other parts. I pitched a fit and said I was taking my business elsewhere. Then the sales guy mentioned that actually under the warranty they could replace the whole muffler for only the cost of labor -- $45. I asked if the replacement included a new tailpipe? Yep, it certainly did. Cheap & quick fix, done. Awesome. So, buyer beware. Like I said, the folks at this shop are good guys and they're just doing their job, but the company policies are designed to eff you over. Read all of the fine print, and make sure they tell you ALL of the options. read more

When I hesitated because of the exorbitant price, he told me I could blame the high price on the Democrats and went into a misinformed diatribe about fossil fuels and Obama while the receptionist nodded in agreement. You know the story..I have 8 vehicles, pride myself with maintaining myself. But at my age working (BTW.I have Harvard degree) on back unpleasant. Needed differential cover on my 98 Ford F150, called local Ford dealer, they quote $80 + $150 for parts, cannot get appointment for a week from Wednesday. So , I call Jere (English spelling)..sure he can do. I get part at Autozone ($30), Jere installed better than they show on Youtube, plus I can drink coffee and stand upright while he does it, charges $50!! I am thrilled with the service here!! I have a 2007 Ford Escape that is the best car I have ever had and I intend to keep it for as long as I can. The guys at Peabody Meineke have been my "go to guys" for service ever since the warranty expired. I tried them originally because they were conveniently located between home and work and continue to use them because they deliver great service at a really reasonable price. They provide regular maintenance changing oil, rotating tires, etc., have replaced brakes, tires, muffler and most recently tire rods. They are knowledgeable, courteous, reasonably priced and don't talk down to me like some car mechanics talk down to females!! I very rarely will make a negative online review unless I really feel the consumer is at risk of being taken advantage of and this one time where I want to caution any one in need of car repairs. I made my appointment in advance to have my brakes looked at, they just started squeaking and needed the pads replaced. I asked for verbal quote for brake pads, but was told they have to look at my car first. I requested a quote when I got there. I waited for a really long time, only for them to quote me over $1000.00 dollars. $$ ONE THOUSAND PLUS for ONE repair. Now, I do know for a fact that brake pads are not anywhere near a thousand dollars. I've had this repair in the past... a few hundred $$ maybe. At this point my car had already been taken apart and I had a 50% off coupon so I was going to tell him just to do the work because I didn't want to waste anymore time there. I showed him my coupon ( which was not expired ) and he told me that I couldn't use it and he wouldn't give me a reason why. So of course, I asked that he put my car back together and I'll take it elsewhere. I went to a local mechanic and got my brake pads replaced for under $300.00. Don't waste your time or $$$ here. This is a chain, they try to rip off the consumer because they seem to think we're not savvy enough to understand these kind of repairs. read more

Recently I went to Meineke on Rt.1 Peabody near LowelL St. simply for an oil change. Our family always went there for the little things we needed as there were always specials for oil changes, which by the way would include tire rotation at times. I drove up and found it was not very busy and asked how long to wait for an oil change, and if I could get the "special" (price that is,which I didn't think I had to give as always got a card in the mail which I did not have w/me and even without would honor before), told yes,and told about 15 mins. Okay, will stay. It didn't take long and when presented with the bill it was $32.00 plus change!!! WHAT THE HECK! I told the man I asked about the oil change special and he proceeded to tell me that was the special, and included all the typical things one does at an oil change . I said it's usually around $19.95 and he said it was their price. Hmmm, I asked for Jerry and found out he recently retired and sold to whomever is running it now. GOOD LUCK!!! No specials, losing long time customers, not a good start. I would have paid that amount at Jiffy Lube and gotten my car mats cleaned free or gone to Munro for their special and had tire rotation for less than the other two places!!! I will steer clear of Meineke and tell my friends to go elsewhere if they get a quote like this as well. There was a woman who came in right after I was done and she was also looking for the special for oil change and I told her she'd better get the price upfront as the new management is not giving the oil change special and it costs more than other places around.
