I will not go there anymore. They messed up my car. i go there to have my wheel alignment (warranty for a year) my car issue is pulling to the right and sometimes left... but after the service the mechanic explain that they discover that my front left upper arm have a little play so they need to replace both of them... so i decided to do it some other time cause of budget... they hand me the keys to my car.(I pay zero $ for wheel alignment because its for a warranty) But when i drove my car the steering wheel is very off its crooked and it was not like that when i gave it to them... so i went back and tell the front desk about it and he said that its like that when they had it. They will not fix the crooked steering wheel until the upper control arms are replaced... it just sad. I needed an oil change and as I was going down touhy avenue in Skokie I saw the pep boys in a shopping center. I went in there and they serviced my car.3 weeks later I needed a little more oil because my oil was leaking. I met with Omario and he actually topped it off for me at no charge. These guys at this place and I've met a few people here are the nicest professional people I've ever run into. No attitudes just happy to help you out. I brought my car in for them to change a flat tire since it was close to where the flat occurred, and all they did was try to charge me hundreds of dollars to make other repairs I didn't need and unknown to them, I had already brought my car a few days prior to my dealer for service and everything checked out fine. Do NOT come here! I wish I would have read the reviews first. I'm being generous by giving this place 1 star...it deserves none. It should not even be in business. This place is incredibly disorganized. I made an appointment online to have 4 tires installed. It took me two days to get my tires installed. Yep, you read that right...two days. Day 1 On the day of my appointment, I receive a call from Sonny stating that they are short-staffed and only have one tech. I asked if I should reschedule and/or come in later and he told me that I was fine to come in at my scheduled appointment, but that there may be a delay. I said no worries. I get there and the place is disorganized. They only had one tech which is to be expected, but there's no one there to answer phones. I had a spare tire on when I went up there. They took the rim off of the wrong tire. Then they failed to put the spare back in my trunk. They couldn't find it (how does that even happen?!). Then the one lone tech didn't know how to take off the back tire so I had to come back the next day because that tech would know how to do so. This whole ordeal took 3 hours. You would think they would have offered a discount, but they didn't. I instead ended up paying an additional $9 which I'm still puzzled about and received no explanation as to why this was different than what was stated online. Day 2 I was the first person at the store and they still took 2 hours to put on two tires. They found my spare but to be completely honest I don't think it is the original spare. I think it's the wrong one. I spent a total of 5 hours trying to get 4 new tires installed. Never again. Do yourself a favor and go straight to the Walmart tire center down the street. It's like another 2 or 3 minutes further down the road. Trust me, the extra 3 minutes will save you 5 hours. I do not recommend this store, just go to Walmart instead. I had a horrific experience with a Firestone on Harlem in norridge and decided to see what my options were in the area. I set up an appt online at 4:30pm and showed up around 3:00pm just to drop the car off and go have lunch with my gf. The young lady at the counter was very pleasant, but explained they closed at 5, so it might be tight. She said that they would check the tire for damage to see if it could be repaired or if it required replacing, and give me a call. Head out to grab lunch, and the appetizers hadn't even arrived before getting the call that they found the damage in the side wall, and she told me they had already swapped out and replaced the tire. Like that was just fast af. Seriously, I expected to be there at like 4:59 with them telling me that it would need to be picked up the next day. So I go in and have another great experience with the tech who did the job. His name is Sonny, and he's knowledgeable, professional, and personable. Great combination. Sonny assisted us and he was not only thorough in addressing the issue and explaining everything, but he was so kind and professional. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE From THIS LOCATION... Ordered four tires online late Saturday online to be installed at 1pm on Sunday. I was getting one of the buy three get a fourth free with free installation. Came out to like 390 total with taxes. Great! Fast forward to my appointment time. I walk in to three employees behind registers, one was on their phone, the other two talking to each other-takes them like 3 minutes to even acknowledge me. They apparently canceled my appointment at like 8am on Sunday, when I placed my order at around 2am. They said well the system canceled you and sent an email. Being a Sunday where I work late the night before, I didn't check my email. The guy basically started blaming me for trusting their system. I ask them what they can do for me now. They can order it for in for another day or I can try the Elston location, but call first. So they can't do anything, wasted my time, then everything they could do today was 100-150 more than what I paid. I use my car for work and this is denting me financially more than just the price of tires since I had a donut on my car. Total bait and switch bullshit. honestly beware of going here. I went in about a month ago for an oil change/tire rotation. The "new manager" took forever to check me in. Talking about how he was hung over and almost late to work. Then I asked him to check on one noise that my car was making. When I went to pick up my car there was a laundry list of things that were wrong and they didn't even check the noise. Just yesterday I went for my lyft inspection to a different mechanic and apparently I need new brakes, which was not mentioned at pep boys. Pep boys did tell me I needed new tires (less than a year old) and this other mechanic assured me I didn't. They also stripped one of the studs in my tire when rotating the tires and didn't even tell me. I will NEVER be back. read more

Horrible!!!! Got an oil change at this location. After a little while the engine oil pressure went off that it was low. Took it to the dealership and there was only 0.5 liters of oil in car. They sent out their insurance "adjuster" and did a "review" of vehicle. They declined the claim saying they did no wrong. This is a 3 year old car. No issues before this and all of sudden there's something wrong after the "oil change". There was no oil in car. All they said was that something is wrong my car and they did nothing wrong. Don't trust them and never go here or any pep boys. Horrible experience will never be back and no one I know I'll be either. Kicker: when I got back to pick up the car after "oil change" the car was running with the keys in front of the shop with no one attending it. Hi, I just want to say that the team at the Skokie Pep boys are so kind and respectful. My husband and I went there with a tire from our sons car that had a nail in it. Omar and his team were very understanding of our concern since our son needed to drive to Wisconsin, where he already had tires ordered. They were so willing to try to help us, but the tire was not repairable. They put the small tire on the car for us and did not charge us for the work they did on checking this tire. I think that if every business and everyone was this honest and compassionate the world would be a better place to live in. IF YOU VALUE YOURLIFE DO NOT USE THIS PEP BOYS. about 2 years ago PeP Boys did a brake job on my car about 8 months later the brake caliper came off and jammed the wheel while I was doing Aprox 30 MPH. The car came to an abrupt halt. I was left stuck on the side of the road for 4 plus hours. Extremely poor Maintenance! tried again this past week with PeP boys felt the brakes grinding mechanic said breaks were fine. Took car to firestone they said the pads and rotors were worn causing the grinding. Firestone offered to let a PeP Boys Rep into their work place look at the rotors and pads however 2 managers at PeP boys declined. I do not trust this PeP boys to do any maintenance. Use extreme caution if using this PeP Boys. I asked if an ASE certified mechanic looked at the brakes and I am still waiting for a response. Do not trust PeP boys! The called the Store Manager to attempt to resolve this issue. Perhaps the worse person that I have ever dealt with in customer relations. Condescending and extremely rude. read more

I purchased tires and a wheel alignment from this location twice. There was an immediate difference in the cars maneuverability. This was great because I had to travel to Springfield for a business trip and and needed my car to work properly. I just got back and I felt that I must write this review because their work was great and I didn't have to rent a car! The workmanship and speed of service keeps me returning. The manager, John S, ensures the customer is satisfied. It's hard to find a manager that is trustworthy and won't take advantage of the customer. This location I like! Called back to get an estimate before appt so there are no surprises and the person who answered the phone said it would take 24 hours to change my tires. Thats not what I was originally told by the other salesperson. When I expressed how crazy that was and asked why I wasn't told this before he got defensive with me. I am writing this update because I spoke with the manager who was not in the store the day I came in. He was very personable and told me he would talk with the mechanic to see what happened. To be clear, the manager quoted me the same price as the online price quote. This problem was one mechanic who decided to quote me a price of $95 for a basic synthetic oil change. The price is $75 and he decided to overcharge me by $20. I was told the mechanic was a great mechanic but not great with customers. I'm not really sure if this ifo helps but it makes me understand that some people get great service and some don't. I guess I will add that the service manager is off on Thursdays so I would go any other day but Thursday because he seemed like if he was present i may have possibly got a good oil change for a reasonable price. read more

I purchased an installed battery online for $148.83. I went to the Skokie, IL store and their employee "AC" tried to overcharge me by $100. I had to complain twice as he tried to overcharge me a second time for $10. He said I had to prepay it in order to get the agreed price, which is untrue as it is not indicated on the invoice or website. It was bait and switch. Lastly "AC" complained that I got upset and that I SHOULD APOLOGIZE. If I was a minority or had poor English, he probably would get away with it. How many other people has he ripped off? read more

I brought my car in for new tires that I bought from Tire Rack. I figured I would ask that my alignment be checked and thought, "I might as well get the lifetime alignment warranty". Before the tire install my car drive straight, after I left the car began to pull to the right. It was so slight that I didn't think much of it and it being winter I decided not to take care of it. 6 months later I went back and asked them to rotate my tires and I mentioned the alignment issue. After I went to pickup the car it immediately started pulling to the left. So it's not enough that the car was messed up by whatever these individuals were doing wrong, but now my car pulls me into oncoming traffic! If they're not capable of producing a quality alignment or telling customers that it might not be necessary, they shouldn't be doing alignments for anyone. Update: I went back and they adjusted my alignment after I explained what the issue is. It finally feels normal. I appreciate that they were able to fix the problem. -I had a funny feeling that the mechanic that came out to talk to the gentleman that checked me in was upset for some reason that I brought the car in. He came out complaining. If it was not an issue, I would not have brought it back yup get fixed. read more
