BEWARE of this place. My sister was just here this morning, they tried to sell her a tire for $200. I was talking to the rep on the phone, and asked why one tire costs $200. He gave me all these bullshit, and plus one of the light bulbs for the rear plates would cost $15 and another $15 for installation. Then when I told them to not do anything, the price went down to $100. They also told my sister, that her spare tire is under the van. That they would have to put the car on the lift to get to it. I was searching for oil change service. I had couple places in my mind. Pep Boys was nearest and I thought to give a try. I saw that lots of people complain about two things 1. They don't follow the schedule 2. Dishonest. After vising this place I am agreeing with them 100%. I called two days before to schedule an appointment at 8 a.m. I reached on time but gentleman "Brian" was not able to find it in system. Then he showed me the screen and told me that see I can not find your name. Then, I could clearly see my name there. Wow! Still he told me that there were two cars ahead and it might take another hour. I was not willing to wait so then they agreed to do oil change right away. Now Price - When I called them two days before, gentleman told me that synthetic oil change will be $59.99. When I talked to Brina and he asked me to sign that had price $78. I argued with him the fact and then he showed me the screen that had price $69. This is amazing place - someone gives you different price over the phone, system has different price and sales guy asks me to sign on a piece of paper that has different price. I am not coming back again and will make sure that none of my relatives or friends visit this place. read more

I had previously enjoyed going into Pep Boys to purchase whatever it may be I needed for my car, but I've been put over the edge with their customer service. I've never had my car serviced there, so I can't speak to their service, but the cashiers have really poor attitudes. On my last visit, I apparently pissed off the cashier because I didn't want to spend the time signing up for their rewards program. He grudgingly gathered and handed me my change without any "Thank you" or "Have a nice day." It's the little things that keep customers going back, and their young staff needs to realize that before they have no more business. I don't enjoy going to shop where I have to wait 5 minutes for someone to realize I'm waiting to be checked out, only to deal with an attitude when they finally do arrive. PepBoys replied to discover regarding my dispute. The letter includes some blatant lies: 1. Signed sales draft shows that he paid us after he was satisfied with our services. Truth: Car key was not provided to me until payment was made. 2. Once the service is done on any vehicle, our mechanics first take a test drive and then ask the customer to check it and inform us there and then if there are any problems. Truth: There was no test drive. When I walked in, I paid and received my key. The car was not even pulled up to the door or anything. I was told where it would be parked. No one walked out with me or came to the car. 3. The customer picked up the vehicle and came back maybe a few days later stating that he still had some sort of burning smell coming from the vehicle. We inspected the vehicle thoroughly and did not find anything to be wrong. Truth: Once they key was given to me, I went to the car and started it and started pulling out of the lot. The car had burning smell coming in at that time. I turned around and went right back in and made them aware of the situation. They had me pull up my car in to the shop and they agreed upon the smell. One of the senior mechanics said I should drive it a few days because the smell may be a residual. They continued to open the vent ducts and spray air freshener in there. I pointed out that this is not a fix but they told me to simply come back a few days later if smell still exists. If they have surveillance footage then they will see the actions of that day stated above to be true. Discover has re-opened the dispute. I have given them paperwork from the dealership showing that I attempted to get the vehicle repaired before trading in. Also have provided paperwork showing that the vehicle was traded in. If this is not resolved through discover, I still plan on taking them to court. read more

My dad always went to this shop for his auto repairs. Now that I was in same town, I decide to hire them for my brake fixes. They are not the fastest but the people are all very helpful and they don't try to gouge money. They only recommend needed services and won't oversell. They have developed trust among customers as I can say for my dad and me. The brake replacement had a minor rubbing issue, which they resolved the next day at no charge. read more

I made a reservation for 01/12/2014. at 09:30 AM. I showed up at 09:20 and was told that they may not be able to work on my car until later. The waiting room had nobody in it plus I made an appointment. I bought two tires to be mounted on the front of my front wheel drive Equinox. It took till 11:32 for my car to be completed. Or so I thought!! They mounted the new tires on the back and put the old tires on the front. This is not what I had requested. I was told it was company policy and that they would not change it. That's when I became irate and told the gentleman behind the desk I do not care what the company policy states. Why would you want tires that were balanced and mounted put on the back and ones that are wearing and not balanced to be put on the front. It makes no sense. It took another half and hour for them to switch tires back to where they should have been in the first place. Now a couple of weeks go by and I get an email from Pep Boys asking me to rate my transaction which I did by giving an honest assessment to what had transpired. They rejected my review. I received a voice mail from their manager Art. I tried calling Art back several times and never reached him. Another week goes by and I get another email asking me to review my experience, which I did and it was rejected again. I feel that their customer service is lacking. I also called corporate and left a message with no reply. The tires I bought are OK but what they tried to do is ridiculous and absurd. I would never go there again even if I got the tires for free. read more

Can you give ZERO stars??? Made a 3:00 appointment, figuring they close at 6:00 and I'd be sure to be out way before then anyway. My daughter's car needed 2 new tires and an alignment. That's all. I've had the same service done at Costco in the past and it took under an hour. Well, at 5:25 I asked how much longer and was told "20 minutes." At 5:55 I went back to the counter and asked if it was done, and was told "another hour." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Had I known this would be a four hour job, I wouldn't have come by myself and waited. This is not the first time I have had issues with appointments meaning absolutely nothing at this location - but it will definitely be the last. I don't care if they're giving away free service - I will NEVER bring a car here again. read more

For some reason, it took me 3 bad experiences before I stopped bringing my cars here. The service manager, Art, and the counter guy, Jim, are both nice guys and easy to work with, but the grease monkeys in the back are not up to snuff. I've had to replace brakes that they fixed after 8 months and 6000 miles. I paid them $300+ to fix a failed emission test, only to have the car fail again before getting it fixed elsewhere. I bought tires there and they broke the TPMS stems during installation -- now I have to pay $500+ to get these tire pressure monitoring stems replaced and the monitoring system reprogrammed. Three strikes -- they're out! I'm only sorry that it took me so long to give up on them... read more

I've never written a review before, but I wanted to warn folks not to take their car to this Pep Boys for air conditioning repair. The manager was very nice and responsive at first, but I paid $1200 and got nothing, the air conditioner is still blow hot air. This is after 4 visits: (fill fluid and dye, try to replace hoses, come back again because hoses were wrong size, add special dye). I was having a rough day and to make matters worse I ran over a screw. I drove immediately to PB's and relayed my problem and asked to have the hole plugged. The CSA walked outside to take a look at the tire and let me know that not only did I have one screw in my tire but I also had a nail in the side wall. What are the odds of this happening on the same day!!!! So, now my rough day just got a bit more rough. UGH! Thankfully the CSA was able to walk me through buying a new tire and was able to get my car back to me in about an hour. I was so thankful that this store was able and willing to help me. You know the saying "fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me"? Well there should be a third, fool me a third time and I am a trusting idiot. For the third time this location has screwed me on a repair. They repaired my car in July and the part failed so I took back in to be fixed. Well this time they decided they needed a part from the dealer and I would have to pay the difference. That did not sit well with me, you did not fix it right I already paid you, so this is your cost. Then to top it off they tried to tell me they paid $295 for the part. I had already called three dealerships and knew the cost for me would be $242 and that Pep Boys would pay less than that. This is insane. I had to pay them because they were holding my car hostage. I have reached out to corporate who has opened a ticket on this. I hope this location makes this right as I should not have had to pay anything additional for a repair done wrong the first time read more

CAUTION..STAY AWAY. They quoted me 695 dollars for a starter on a VW Passat. I immediately left and went to Firestone who quoted me 450 and then a independently repair shop who quoted me 400. They are trying to catch you sleeping. Do not give tbem the opportunity. If there were a ZERO star rating, that would be more appropriate. Stay away. Period read more

I brought my car in for service. It was a Sunday afternoon and they seemed to be the only place open. First got a diagnosis and they promised it would completed by the end of the day. I later tried to call them close to closing time to ask if they were near complete. They were about to close and said they haven't even started. I had to wait an additional day without my car and when I did receive it they wanted to charge 150 for a diagnosis done without fixing the problem. They never discussed this fee even though I asked. Upset I called a manager and was apologized to but after the horrible customer service and unorganized staff I will not be returning. read more

Brian at this location went above and beyond and took great care to keep us on our journey from minnesota to indiana. Thursday 5/23 it was near closing time and he made sure we could get home safely by personally making sure our 2 bad tires were fixed right then and there even though it was almost time for them to go home too!!.. Ugh Where to start... have had two sets of tires replaced at this location in the past and everything went fine... This time, the day after we had them installed the tire sensor light went off... called them back and asked to bring the truck back in to look at... they said did you check your tire pressure? Duh- So then we had to drop off the truck again for a couple of hours.. Brought it in and they admitted it appears THEY broke the sensor and they had the sensor IN STOCK and would replace it right away... After an hour and a half we had to call back to see if it was ready. After about a 2 minute hold... Yes its ready.. ok so we GO BACK again and when we got there... NOPE its not ready who told you that? We are waiting for the part to arrive! WAIT you told us it was in stock.... So we go home again wait another hour and a half and they call and say it's ready- We asked of they were sure about that.... Go to pick it up - Now this is the third time my husband has been there in three hours and they acted like they never saw him before? They said they are not in the business to remember people and then laughed. This was after my husband had to interrupt him from texting on his phone..... End result no apology, no sorry Sir for the trouble... Sorry we wasted 3 hours of your time and three trips back and forth. Had my front brakes changed on my truck the other day. Originally quoted $180 brake job for fronts, and wound up being OVER $600 FOR FRONT BRAKES ONLY! If that wasn't bad enough, as I pulled out of their lot, my ABS warning light came on, so I went back, and found out the mechanic broke it with a hammer while working on my brakes. Now I am getting the run around to get my vehicle fixed in a timely manner. read more

DO NOT HAVE ANY WORK DONE HERE. I read the reviews beforehand and thought perhaps they were exaggerated a little, not to the mention the service guy behind the counter seemed nice. I stopped in for front brake/rotor replacement after hearing some grinding. I was told the entire process would take about 1.5 hours (including inspection & brake repair). I walked around for a bit, came back after 1.5 hours only to find my vehicle hadn't moved from my original parking spot. Counter guy who gave me the estimate apologized and said he's not sure what's taking so long... 4 hours after dropping my car off, finally settled up and drove home. Made a 2nd appointment for the following day for control arm repair (found during brake inspection of course), was assured that a drop off by 11:30AM (check) would be completed by close. I hadn't heard anything with 30 minutes left to close so I called for an update only to hear that the mechanic was having a hard time and needed to keep the car there overnight. These guys suck man, not even a call. Specifically did this over the weekend to ensure I had a ride there and back, carried over to weekday. Have fun scrambling to find a rental car at 6:30AM to get to work on time like I did. Awesome. Merry xmas, holes! After slobbing the brake change by 2.5 hours without any compensation for the hassle, you'd think they would make an effort to honor their word on the control arm work I was gracious enough to give them the following day. Basically I had overheating problems. They did the test check on it and all that. But the day before let me add one guy introduced me to a guy who worked for dodge a couple years ago hence my car was a dodge charger. He talked to me saying it mite be this are that blah blah so I gave it to them and they said it would be call me the next day for my results. Next day they said all these different things were leaking all theses stuff needed to be replaced and would cost over 1500. Said I think about it took it back and did research and went to another place in whom checked it again. They told me nothing was leaking and all they did was 1 simple thing and my car is working fine now. So yeah very dishonest service look elsewhere please. read more

Please stay away. These people don't know what they are doing and can't be honest. They ordered the wrong part twice, supposedly fixed the car and gave it back to us. They car wouldn't start the next day. Come to find out it was put together wrong and they ruined the engine and wanted us to buy a new one. Now the car is ruined after we dropped over $600 on it two weeks ago on brakes, roaters and tires. If you value your car stay away. This car was in the family for a long time and was more than just a car. Pep boys acts like they did nothing wrong. If they were a decent company they would do something to make this better. Jim is the most honest mechanic I've ever had the pleasure to do business with. His integrity and honesty never ceases to amaze me and impress me. I took my car to Toyota for diagnostics for a rattling noise. They wanted to replace my entire exhaust system for over $1500. Took it to pepboys and they said I could just replace the catalytic converter for under $800. Yesterday I took the car to Toyota to see if they could drill out a screw from the steering knuckle that sheared off when I was trying to replace the hub. They said it's not possible and quoted approx $1000 to fix. Jim said I should just drill a hole next to the bolt to reattach the speed sensor. Sure enough took me 30 minutes and I was up and running and pepboys didn't even perform work. Pepboys you have my business! Keep up the great service. I just wish you had a courtesy vehicle to get me home so I don't have to wait at your facility. See you next time I need an oil change read more

I'm writing this review to be a warning to anyone who could be doomed by falling into this same situation. First I want to make clear I don't blame the employees (some of 'em are great people) I blame a very bad company. I would not recommend buying any parts at Pep Boys. I have had numerous issues with Prostart batteries. A few examples include the battery dying on me in a hospital parking lot as I walked out in the cold of December wrapped in hospital bandages. You know how tough it is to get a jump in a hospital parking lot? Actually pretty hard! I have been left stranded at gas stations, and just last week late to work because of yet another battery issue! I went to a Pep Boys store to just get my money back for these headaches of a shoddy product, and go elsewhere to get a battery. Just so it is clear a battery should last well over a year and a half! Well low and behold which I should have known because I worked at another Pep Boys previously none of my warranty info for the battery is in the computer! Their warranty tracking system is completely useless it has been for many years, and I bet many of you reading this have had the same problem at least once. A real auto parts store can track that info for many many years. I know I have been in this industry for over 12 years. But since they couldn't find my info it was either store credit (which what garbage toys do I want to buy at Pep Boys... none!) or another battery that I have to wonder where it is going to leave me stranded at next time! Well all I can say now is I hope someone is around to give me a jump that next time! read more

I had a couple of tires on my car that weren't holding air. So, I took my car over to Pep Boys on Barrington Rd in Streamwood, IL. last week. Turns out 3 tires were bad so I decided to just get 4 new tires and save myself the headache. An expense I couldn't really afford. However, I worked with Brian K who did his absolute best to get me the best deal possible on 4 new tires. I got an absolutely fantastic deal and Brian K was great to work with. If you are in need of new tires I highly recommend Pep Boys. Also, get the extra warranty...you will be happy you did if you need it. I went in for a standard oil change and tire rotation. Took about an hour and a half. I started driving my car down Barrington road and heard an awful scraping sound, so I pulled over and couldn't find anything wrong with my tires. I drove back to the shop and they said they would look at it if I pulled it into the shop. I did so and they told me to wait. I waited about 15-20 minutes and he told me to meet him out in the front to go for a test drive. He wanted me to drive the car so he could hear the sound. I got on my hands and knees and saw the weather guard hanging off the bottom of my car. I don't understand how they could not find that themselves with the 15 minutes it took them in the shop. They said a bolt must have fallen off.... in other words, they didn't put on the weather guard securely so it was just hanging off. No discount or apologies. Never coming back. Take your car elsewhere - where a standard oil change can be done efficiently and correctly. read more

After the service (or lack there of) I received I am convinced that any good reviews you see on here are fake. They had my car 3 days and said it was fixed. I wasn't even out of the parking space and I knew it wasn't fixed correctly. They said they would look at it same day - it is noon the following day and it hasn't been looked at yet. When asked why a returned vehicle wouldn't take precedence over a new service, I was told they had other returns yesterday as well and got nasty that I would even question it. I don't know when my car will be ready, I don't know if it will be done right and I don't know how much more of their nasty attitude I will have to deal with. read more
